I've got an Osidian Portal account that I haven't used for a while, but when I was running a home brew campaign via D20Pro it was a handy way to communicate with the players. PBP can handle a lot of that, but OP has nice ways to have links and a Wiki, maps, etc., plus players can have a page for their characters.

I've added equipment in this profile.
So largely she be driven by the overwhelming sense that she has done something wrong, but has been given a second chance. Secondarily, she is looking to belong (not to a place, but to a group or cause) and she has a powerful urge not to stay in one place too long because it could be bad...
Given the context that begins the adventure, I'm not sure I could be much more specific on personality or background. Let me know what you think!

Gladiola |

I'm working on my personality and such at the moment. I'm sorry; I tend to take a lot of time making AP characters just because I want to be absolutely sure I will enjoy playing them for an undefined period of time.

Don't mind me, just rolling some inconsequential dice.

Reading other play by posts, I think that the introduction to Strange Aeons, while neat, doesn't lend itself to a slow PBP format. Two or three weeks spent detailing what should be a five to fifteen minute in-person event might be difficult to keep suspense.
I think I am going to make an interactive fiction piece for the game's unique intro. I've made a small demo that you all can play. Very basic at the moment. If you've provided character descriptions and gear, I've incorporated some of that into the demo.
At the end of the finished project, it will generate a code of sorts that I will then use to see what you all did. I'll then use that to summarize what happened into an introductory story post.
Pros: It will go considerably faster, possibly keep the mood/introduction theme strong. It takes away player agency in a time where doing perhaps you shouldn't have too much free will? It might make for a neat experience?
Cons: It does take away some player freedom and agency. It will become a rather scripted event.

GM Franti |

It should stop right as a fog appears. I have more, but I'd rather have it all done before I post it.
Is that something people would be interested in? I haven't put in enough work to feel bad about scrapping it, I've put more time into superfluous patient records at the Asylum.
Let's aim for starting in a couple weeks? Perhaps begin posting in the story-proper by the 5th of November or so? Does that work as a suitable time for everyone?

Ember Song |

I decided to go with this avatar for Ember. I used the other one for another character, so this will be less tendency to role play my other character, who is a fighter Rogue and somewhat similar in some ways to Ember.
So that program is called Twine? I haven't heard of it. But my imagination has made me think of a programmer trying to combine features of Twine with another program like Word. But after much effort, she concludes that it can't be done. Turns out it's true, "Never the Twine shall mate."
If that makes you want to ban puns, remember, if puns are outlawed, only outlaws will have puns.

GM Franti |

The interactive looks nice! I've worked with Twine before, so I am familiar with the medium :)
Twine is fun. Ember, you are pretty spot on. Think of it like a digital combination of a choose your own adventure, Microsoft word, and those crazy maps that connect people/places via string.
I am a psuedo-programmer, I often make things much more complex than they ought to be though. It is coming along nicely so far, I have 3 "endings" done, want to get a couple more for the sake of variation. Should have it done by Friday night, maybe Saturday afternoon. Seems to be about a 5 minute experience thus far.

Franti and I had previously discussed potentially having me join the game late - but I think I may be able to fit it into my schedule early. If I have a complete character sheet posted by the 5th, I'll be joining at the same time as all of you.
(Though, fair warning, this weekend is an anime convention so I will be incommunicado until Monday once I leave for the trip.)

GM Franti |

Will likely be up late tonight!
It is "done" I just need to check it all for errors and do a little QA to make sure everything works as intended.

GM Franti |

Still want to do some CSS formatting to make it a bit prettier, but we are ready >> Here it is! << Endings are randomly determined, there are five in total, and each give some insight into what you may be facing later. At the end, please post what it says into the discussion thread. Feel free to "choose" which ending you reach for your character if you go through the game a couple times.
Morph, tell me when the character is ready and I can add you to the initial sequence. Don't want to leave you out ;)
Might be a typo or two, there isn't an auto spell checker so it was just me re-reading it over and over. Tell me if you have errors accessing it, I recommend some mood music such as Whatsoever a Man Soweth, the Dead Silence theme song, or some classic, creepy ambient sounds.

I tried to talk
I tried to talk
I tried to talk
I stood my ground as the cloud advanced.
I attempted to fight off the man in tatters.
The creature took on the appearance of those I could not remember.
Consumed by fear, I ran until I escaped the yellow fog. The man in tatters broke my neck, and left me for dead.
What energy you still had vanished, consumed by the touch of the creature behind you. Sluggish now, you turned to the man in tatters as it enclosed two hands over your face.
☕ Unexpected identifier►
While largely devoid of facial features, the man in tatters now appeared composed. It lifted you off your feet, and examined you with a strange curiosity.
Grammatical errors I noted:
You had a strange but unmistakable feeling that you knew them, and that they knew toy.Your heart beated, quick and thunderous.
Long, draping arms reached towards you with jagged claws. You were frozen in fear, an unnatural feel, something that had just begun to emanate from this creature as it grew frustrated.
One more, you could make out the bends and twists of the cobbled roads.

Pasiune Rhade |

I'm on my phone all weekend, so i can't copy and paste.
And I kept running.
And I ran.
Until I tired and I could run no longer.
I attempted to fight off the man in tatters.
I stabbed the creature though it turned out to be ember.
I tried to apologize.
I followed the bloody trail to ember's body.
I approached ember's body and was killed by the imitator.

GM Franti |

Thanks, Ember! Fixed the typos, found the issue (didn't put quotes to indicate it should be listening for text), and resolved it.
After everyone has taken the mini adventure, I'll upload a version can have you choose which ending to see what could have happened.
The only thing that I need you to note in your sheet is that your signet ring depicts the profile of a red cardinal over a winged shield. You may also note the features of what the creature attempted to shift into.
"A woman, slender, face framed by swirling, chestnut curls. The body features prominent brown eyes. They reminded you of a feeling of family, of home."
"A man, this time, stocky, somewhat unkempt, somewhat charming, but otherwise a blur. A friend? A friend of a friend?"
"A man that swelled in size, doubling in the very least from the last. His eyes became shrouded, and his beard grew large. He inspired crossed emotions - there was a strange feeling of loyalty, yet also a strong repulsion, a visceral hatred."

It is funny, some of the endings were written for some people in mind, you got the canonical "Ember Ending."
I made a will roll when the mist started to close in and got a solid result (+20), so I figured he'd stand his ground as long as he could. I will note the signet ring details and memories of people that the mist took the form of.
The monster reminded me of one called a Raggamoffyn (from D&D) or an Attic Whisperer (from Pathfinder). I'm looking forward to getting this going.

I stood my ground as the cloud advanced.
I ran from the cloud, I ran left.
Then I ran uphill.
Then I kept running.
And ran.
As I ran, I saw my reflection. The thing that followed me threw me though a window.
The creatured attacked me from above, then had fun in it's battle against me.

Since there had been an error in the program when I went through it the first time, I tried it again, thinking I would see what I missed before, but the same choices took me toward a different ending. I didn't pursue it once it became obvious the program was taking me toward a different ending.

Endings are now available to be chosen. There are five endings, one has the chance to show up while running away, the other four all after fighting for an amount of time.
Endings are now labelled, Ember, you had ending four. Rivas and Gladiola ending two, Pasuine ending three, Eponine had the running ending. Feel free to replay your ending, or play the others.
As long as we don't have three people choosing one ending, feel free to play again and choose your canon ending. If you do so, please alert me ASAP.
Post should be up within the next day or two summarizing the events and providing the opening scene.
If you'd like to prepare an opening post, read the following spoiler.

Ember Song |

I don't want to read the other endings. Maybe later I will, but for now, I'd rather keep what came up through the program.

GM Franti |

In preparation dice rolls. Post likely coming tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I was a bit stalled by some turn of events. Who wasn't though.
I'd like to remind everyone to keep your skills, saves and initiative scores up to date in the Group Statistics, if you haven't already. It saves me so much time for group rolls!

Rivas Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Gladiola Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Eponine Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Eponine Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Sorry about the delay, I guess I didn't think I would be writing a novella for the introduction, but here we are.
And with that, the game begins. Very much looking forward to this all!

GM Franti |

I urge everyone to take a final look at the Player's Guide, particularly the "Coming Together" section and the "Things to Consider" subsection.
Here are some other highlights to get us in the right direction:
Upon waking, your character senses the presence of the other amnesiacs, each with the same lingering doubts, occupying the same cell. Your character feels a vague kinship to these people for unknown reasons. The first thing your character likely realizes is that they are all trapped together in a terrifying situation and that these others might make the difference between escape and perishing in an asylum that has erupted into chaos.
A lingering sense of servitude also nags at your character’s memories upon awakening. It’s hazy, but some recollection tugs at the back of your character’s mind of having been captured, along with a sense of dread that he or she had committed some dark deeds in the past, perhaps under duress. Your character might even consider this blank slate a blessing in disguise.
Regaining their senses, the PCs feel as if they are emerging from a fog or a dream, but have trouble remembering who they are and how they got into their current situation. The only memories that remain are but vague hints and gut feelings—hardly clear recollections. A PC may recall only bits of an early childhood in a merchant family, while another might remember being born in Oppara, but nothing else. It is up to you to determine how little or much you can recall.
Of your memories, you all DO remember that sequence described in the prologue. The order of your deaths was determined by if you ran, if you were caught while running, and how long you ran (determined by your CON). The only "tie" was Ember and Gladiola, whose deaths I ordered in a way I found interesting to their ending.
Rivas (who I kept typing as Karas the entire time) got the modified special version of his ending, as he died last. Glad it worked out that way, as the same exact death twice wouldn't have been as fun.
I am very excited for this game, and I think the wait allowed me to prepare nicely. Those who already have read the book might already see how I am changing things, or alluding to elements yet shown.

Ember Song |

Sorry for the delay in posting, but it's just as well, as Ember would take his time trying to get a fix on the situation before taking any actions. Glad this is up and running.

GM Franti |

I have always been a fan of character themes. At the table, I usually give a hero point to anyone who has a theme prepared. If this was a more heroic game, Ember would be sitting on one such point now.
Should be able to get a post out later tonight after I update another game. I am very excited for this.

Hey, sorry I've been MIA this week. I have a real bad stomach flu right now, and it's been beating the s!!# out of me. I think I'm nearing the end of it (fingers crossed) so I'll hopefully be able to catch up soon.

Since the doctor was attacking Ember through the bars of the cell, any chance he could get +4 to his AC for cover?

GM Franti |

Since the doctor was attacking Ember through the bars of the cell, any chance he could get +4 to his AC for cover?
He absolutely does, though I gave the Doctor a -4 on its attack roll to reflect this already :(
Waiting to see the results of Pasiune's action, as it will change mine if Murderdoctor McChangeyface is down.
Even on a failed save, she will still be alive. Act as you would, I'll likely have a post up later tonight reflecting what has/will be done.
