Night all. Alas I can't post much right now anyway, midterm revision in this class today. :P

Any interest in a discussion of strategy for this encounter?
Step back and fireball her? Terrill could cast shout also, but if she's invisible she'd be deafened and invisible, don't know how much that would help us. I had suggested trying to charm her - she'd have to roll really badly to miss her save, but it would be a very neat way to have her come along with us.
What do y'all think?

Amiri the Giantslayer |

Sure, every enchantment would be fine. I am going for non-lethal damage after I manage some cuts. Anyway, if she's not a divine caster she may not have such a high will save. What's the DC for the charm?
You're at full HP, aren't you Terrill?

![]() |

Yes, I'm at full hit points. I'm really bad about updating my stats line, which is why I've started putting my status in my posts when I'm in combat, so I don't lose track.
I guess I'll give charm person a try. Too bad we don't have anyone who could use misfortune or otherwise debuff her on the save.

![]() |

Yes it does. It's got a 10 ft radius, so if I centered it right in front of the desk, I'd be able to get all but our end of the room and maybe the corners.

![]() |

Hmmm, where's the gang tonight? I figured I'd log on to a bunch of posts and we'd knock out a few rounds. Might just head off to bed.

![]() |

Sounds good. At this point, I'm thinking glitterdust on the far end of the room would be a good move, but wouldn't mind input from the gang, as this must be our big boss fight.

![]() |

Well, if three of us think it's the thing to do, it's worth doing. Any other plans you guys have, aside from giving her a beating? That's not a bad plan, I'm just wondering if there are any nuances you have in mind.
And suggestions for Cairo? If this is really the BBEG, or BBELady, then a little Blessing of Fervor would be pretty sweet. I love that spell.

![]() |

If I focus it on the far side of the desk - the corner between Q8 and P9 - it will not get any of us, but will cover pretty much the whole room west of where we're standing. And there's no save against the revealing-invisibility aspect of it, so if she's in that area we'll see her.
And if she's not, she'll stay invisible and dominate Amiri into killing us all.

![]() |

I also vote to glitterdust. And honestly if we do get into melee with her, we probably don't need the blessings. And also if she enchants one of us, blessings of fervor will just hurt us. Once we find out where she is, we should be good, barring a dominated Amiri.

![]() |

Do you have anything you can do about that Terrill? Keeping the Spider confuse-locked seems to be the best way to stop her chaining MORE enchantments on our barbarian...
Also Cairo, I noticed you attacked Amiri last round but you didn't roll the d% check to see your confusion action, unless I missed it...

![]() |

Well if a confused target gets attacked, they automatically fight their attacker instead of rolling. So we're going to fight each other until one of us is down. One tactic I've seen used is to have a non-confused 'draw agro' on the confused target and run away to kite rather than have people full attack each other to death. I suggest someone does that with Amiri.

![]() |

Oh seriously? I didn't know that... THANK GOD she's blind!
Maybe the Spider will roll well (for us) and get to attack Amiri next round. :/
The only thing I can really do is try and trip Amiri to stop the full attack but that's only a temporary thing as well. And that'll let the Spider do whatever she wants for a round, too. It would get Amiri off of you and onto me at least.
EDIT - damn... confusion failed. What do you think, should I try and deal with Amiri or try and just full attack the crap outta her?

Ezren the Pregenerated |

I can't think what Ezren can do to end the confusion. I've used all my dispel magics. Here are some random thoughts about it:
I could try to charm one of them, but that wouldn't affect the confusion - and they're already my allies.
I could throw a tanglefoot bag at one of them.
I could move south a little and cast shout at Ouidda, hoping it takes her out. By my count she's taken up to 42 hp, so 5d6 could take her out if I roll well.
I could try again to charm Ouidda, and if it works could ask her to dispel the confusion.
I could dimension door Ezren and Aerynne out of here...
But first I have to make a Will save.

![]() |

I vote you blast her. (Assuming you succeed on your Will save.) I'll try and get Amiri to attack me instead.

Amiri the Giantslayer |

If you retreat to the carpets maybe the spell there will trigger to make things worst, but maybe that will come into our benefit...
Anyway, I'm blind, i cannot follow you.

Ezren the Pregenerated |

Why don't you just step back and let me swing blindly since I cannot follow you Cairo?
That's a good idea.
I sure do want to know if I made that Will save. It occurred to me that even if I made it and I take Ouidda out with the shout spell, that we'll still have a few more rounds of confusion active.
My thought was to drop a potion of levitate for Amiri and dimension door Ezren, Aerynne and Cairo out of there. Then we'll at least have the confused folks separated and not killing each other, and Amiri can make her way out when she's no longer confused and blind.
We'll still have to come back to grab what's left of Ouidda, but we'll figure that out.

Ezren the Pregenerated |

As Cairo's been saying - he's also under the effects of the confusion spell. Since Amiri attacked him, he doesn't have any choice but to attack Amiri. Which leaves Amiri no choice but to attack Cairo.

Ezren the Pregenerated |

You also have scorching ray if your thought is to drop her.
Yeah, I thought about that too, but I didn't want to risk the to-hit rolls, wanted at least a bit of a sure thing. And the possibility of deafening her was appealing. Nice that I got a decent damage roll, just hope it doesn't kill her outright. But that's still better than her killing us.

Just earlier today, my character I'm applying this chronicle to played My Enemy's Enemy - and we failed our mission from a combination of bad tactics and piss-poor rolls through the final combat.
We met the Spider right at the end, and then a group busted in and saved our asses (for the low low price of 5PP). The GM described it as a team who was coming in for Rivalry's End to capture The Spider...
Thought it was an interesting connection, and also had this team in my mind as the GM wrapped that up. ;)

Amiri the Giantslayer |

Yes Feral, I would like that. It would bring Linark to level 2 after Voice of the Void finishes. I'll pm you the e-mail.
BTW, I posted Amiri's next round action cause i'm going to bed now and will be UNABLE to post tomorrow, returning only on sunday afternoon. That's also for Voice of the Void, as I will be without internet in the middle of nowhere. Please forgive me for not being with you to finish this.
