Allarnon concentrates on his foe, and feels he must be close to bringing him down, but still he persists.
The demon, still single-minded in it’s attacks on Allarnon, choses not to grab, but rather just to dig in and take Allarnon with him to the pit.

Round 10, Init 12
Kaylayne moves over to help at the door, casting a second stone shape to seal the door in stone from the walls and floor.
Dimitrio Carini
The bard continued his magical poetry and frowned, "Just a little longer. I can now feel it weakening. it won't stand up to my overwhelming personality for much longer..."
GM_Euan
On Dimitrio’s initiative, you can see Allevrah just begin to fade in, when there’s a soft hiss, and a snap - and the glyph’s light quickly fades. Yeap, she was due to appear on round 10...
This was the glyph of Defense.
- - -
Kaylayne then closes off the door to further transit, and you expect you have at least a few rounds before they come in through the hole in the wall you’ve made. Maybe longer.
We are, for now, out of initiative. Please limit your next post to four rounds or so of actions. If, as I expect, you fall back on that fourth round, you should get away clean - as you’re all flying fast and low… I’ll have more however at that time.
Lief Anemoi
"It won't stand up to my overwhelming personality for much longer..."
Not many can.
"Well done, Dimitrio. I suggest we depart immediately." Lief looks to Allarnon to remove himself from the embrace of the hezrou, loading his hand crossbow should it prove more difficult than that.
"Dimitrio, what was its name? The Glyph? The others had names, and I want to account for them all, when we get back. Fury, Renewal...? What was this one?"
Allarnon
|
Allarnon withdraws from the Demon's grasp as he rushes for the window. As he inches his way back to the window he yells out. "Get out! I will hold them off!"
His form shimmers faster and faster as he becomes a mixture between human and bear. The winds swirl around his body like a screeching roar through the silent tunnels.
Wild shape into Air Elemental.
Once everyone is free from the tower Allarnon flies out quickly after them.
Kaylayne the Undone
R1: Kaylayne goes and picks up the body of the primary spellcaster jerk and any magics it might have left around.
R2: Kaylayne then leaves, trying to salvage something from this glyphbreaking.
Kaylayne flees with the body/loot.
Dimitrio Carini
"Well done, Dimitrio. I suggest we depart immediately." Lief looks to Allarnon to remove himself from the embrace of the hezrou, loading his hand crossbow should it prove more difficult than that.
"Dimitrio, what was its name? The Glyph? The others had names, and I want to account for them all, when we get back. Fury, Renewal...? What was this one?"
Dimitrio hesitates a second as his new powers take hold, "I think I'm better prepared to defend against attacks, certainly immune to electricity."
He adds, "I hope it's a permanent change. I like it."
He then answers Lief, "Defense, it was the Glyph of Defense. Does that make sense?"
He then helped Layne collect whatever was available and, with a job well done, hightailed it out of here.
GM_Euan
As the glyph is deactivated, a bolt of lightning arcs toward the Weeping Cliffs.
The party escapes, with Drexinis' body.
You are harried, a bit, by a half-dozen or so drow mounted on enormous dire bats, but you'll be able to thin them out and drive them off without too much trouble. Their mounted troops are lighter scouts, and somewhat weaker than the mainstay you encountered in the keep.
Eventually the drow break away, or are killed, and you are again alone on the cold dark plain. You see nothing in your limited area of sight, and hear nothing - not even the flapping of giant bat wings.
You slow and stop, fly spells beginning to expire, and examine your find.
Drexinis had a belt of constitution +4, glove of storing, ring of protection +2, headband of charisma +4,and some pocket change, just 175 gp. In the glove of storing is a lesser empowered metamagic +2 dagger (acts in all ways as the rod, as well as being a +2 dagger - it is worth 21,301gp).
Lief Anemoi
"I think I'm better prepared to defend against attacks, certainly immune to electricity. I hope it's a permanent change. I like it. Defense, it was the Glyph of Defense. Does that make sense?"
Lief soars through the air, enjoying very little of the magical ability, as it only serves to see them safely away from the Bloodforge. Hearing Dimitrio speak on the Defense Glyph, the young man understands the accomplishment and something of the boon.
"For our travels, time spent and all, your new defense might last a day, give or take a couple of hours. Deactivating the Fury Glyph provided me mental protections that never came to any use. I suppose you might have been injured more regularly by the bats without it. Who's to say."
"So... Fury. Renewal. Defense. Two more to go. Two more Focus Glyphs, that is. Moldering Emperor in the Hanging Forest, or the Chardas in the Rotstone Hollows. Shall we tackle large neothelid, or a tribe of aggressive creatures?"
Kaylayne the Undone
Kaylayne grunts looking back at the battles they fought to get away.
"It's not too bad that their bats lack the same magical protections of their masters. They fry and burn easily compared to the rest."
Kaylayn offers the loot from Drexinis around.
"That could have gone worse, but actually...actually we did pretty well," Kaylayne says proudly. "We worked together and got it done. It was good." Kaylayne smiles.
For all her happiness with the current successes, she is also looking forward to a rest before facing the next challenge.
"Maybe the Moldering Emperor next?"
Allarnon
|
"Let's work on the Moldering Emperor next before we take on another horde." Allarnon gasps between breaths as he calls Tarkir out of his hiding spot.
"That actually did go surprisingly well for taking on a drow compound. Somehow we had the upper hand for once."
He muses to himself. "Just glad we took out that Renewal Glyph early on or we would have been in bad shape."
Lief Anemoi
Lief nods at the reflections regarding their recent infiltration. "Moldering Emperor it is, then. We either circle the lake and pass the Hollows on our way to the Hanging Forest, or we angle straight across the Caltherium, and hope to keep ourselves on track, with our limited senses." The young man looks at Kaylayne.
"We need to cover travel for six, over 60 miles, perhaps 80, if we want to cut down on travel time. Unless, you have something more formidable to see us across? Your fire magic was immensely effective, but you're not one to discuss what you can or cannot do, until you've done it."
Ederin Valenta
"Ay, I can get us all walkin' on water so we can cross the lake easy like, but we'll need somethin' to make us faster. Ain't promisin' there ain't somethin' underneath might get us on the way. I know we been risky before, but this might be the biggest risk yet if that's the way we go for it."
As is routine by now Ederin checks and rechecks all his gear while the group deliberates. He looks over the spoils of war from the last battle but doesn't find anything particularly interesting to him.
"Between me and Al we should be able to keep ourselves on track. He might not know the underground so well, yeah, but the bear man knows his directions and I got a keen eye for geography."
Ederin Valenta
If kay has a 3rd level pearl of power I can borrow, then 280 minutes. If we run (x4) we should be able to almost cover 60 miles, more if we have some way to hasten our speed.
Kaylayne the Undone
Kay does and will offer.
"Here, Ederin, use this!" Kaylayne offers. "And maybe my rod as needed." Rod of Lesser Extend 2 uses left this day.
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio was confused and surprised, "Wait Shorty, you want us to run for over four hours? Are you crazy?"
He shook his head, "No, let's keep thinking; we must find another way to approach this area."
-----------
Is it Ok to swap out the headband of CHA then?
Allarnon
|
"What happens if the drow ambush us and find a way to cancel out your magic in the middle of the lake?" Allarnon asks extremely concerned as several dire scenarios run through his mind.
Kaylayne the Undone
Kaylayne hands the fancy headband to Dimi while putting on the new belt herself.
GM Evilan: -1 to Kay's Init becuz -2 dex, +4 Con.
She sticks the dagger in her belt, replacing her other dagger. "This dagger is interesting...might some some use to us. We'll see."
Unless anyone wants it, she also dons the ring of protection +2, putting her +1 back in the pile.
Kaylayne doesn't have a way to move the party across the huge lake and knows that they probably have to around, but might be able to cut through a portion of it using Ederin's magics.
"Your choice, Ederin. Tell us where we are going."
Ederin Valenta
"My choice? Lief is the one with the plan. I already said the lake plan was risky, didn't I? But last I checked, we don't 'ave all that much time to be wastin' sittin' around or takin' the long way."
He shrugs and looks at Lief to see what the younger man thinks.
"I think we need to take the risk. With Kay's help we won't even need to run all that much. I doubt the drow will be walkin' across the lake, since as you lot said, it ain't a good idea, but it might be our best one."
He asks Lief to see the map and uses his knowledge of distance and geography to see if cutting across the lake can save them enough time to be worth it.
Geo: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 15 + 2 = 25
Dimitrio Carini
Dimitrio conceded Shorty's point, "Ok, if flying is out of the question then perhaps walking on the damned black blood is our best option."
He looked at Layne, "Can you augment Shorty's magic so we can run faster?"
GM_Euan
Yeah, I don’t think you can run that far as per the Overland Movement rules, but you can hustle.
A character can hustle for 1 hour without a problem. Hustling for a second hour in between sleep cycles deals 1 point of nonlethal damage, and each additional hour deals twice the damage taken during the previous hour of hustling. A character who takes any nonlethal damage from hustling becomes fatigued.
So you can cover 6 miles an hour at that rate.
All that said, from here to ‘P’ on the map is pretty much overland. Sure there are rivers to cross, but you don’t need to cross the lake. It’s the trip to the central target, on an island, that’s going to be tricky. That trip is over ~20 miles of blackblood. So just over three hours. For simplicity, let’s call it an even three hours. So you’ll have some fatigue, but you can do it within your spell limitations. :)
I’ll assume the party begins the long slog to the next destination. It’s about a hundred miles of nasty blood soaked river plains. You’re covering ~20 miles a day in this terrain so it’ll take you five days to reach your destination.
The ghouls, bat swarms, and more morlocks than you can shake a stick at, all fall under your combined power as you move along the rivers and shoreline of the land of Blackblood. It's hard to describe how oppressive the limited vision is becoming - only being able to see 60' away is extremely limiting. You find yourselves jumping at shadows you can hear but not see. Now you know why the drow cities are so well lit - it's a sign of civilization and sanity.
Never the less, you're about a day away when Ederin jumps back as the ground around him suddenly gives way and fills with blackblood. Scrabbling out of the muck is a large ant-type creature, dripping with the stuff and attacking! Knowledge planes for more information.

As a 'unique' creature to the land of the BlackBlood, Kaylayne doesn't know anything about it in particular. It's similar to an Ant-Lion however, which isn't that tough a creature.
But it's covered in the blood, and isn't morphing, so something's up.

Dimitrio regrets using his rapier and visibly is smothered in the black blood. The thing is in his clothes, in his nostrils, in his throat...
The bard gags but fails to remove the viscous liquid from his orifices.

They can? See I never would do that for my players. Learn something new and all that... :)

Yeah. See Magic, and scroll down to Saving Throw on the page. There is states:
Automatic Failures and Successes: A natural 1 (the d20 comes up 1) on a saving throw is always a failure, and the spell may cause damage to exposed items (see Items Surviving after a Saving Throw, below). A natural 20 (the d20 comes up 20) is always a success.

Enter rage.
"Tarkir get in here!" Allarnon cranes his head around and watches as Tarkir doesn't move. In fact he takes tiny strides here and there as the smaller bear begins to panic a bit.
"This has taken longer than we though. Tarkir's magic has run out. He can no longer see in the dark which is going to slow us down alot."

Allarnon fails to hit though the enraged bear calls upon Tarkir for additional aid. Dimitrio suffers, enveloped by the bloody mud and unable to even breathe to ask for help. Ederin connects twice, but solidly. Kaylayne hits with another triple and the large beast is slammed with fire. Lief connects but once, thanks to haste, and considers other options.
Clearly trying to depart, the giant creature pulls Dimitrio back into it’s lair in the blood soaked ground.

Allarnon gets an AoO as the creature slurps back into the ground, pulling Dimitrio with it. The ground swallows them up like muddy quicksand, and they are no longer visible.
The creature is 20' down under the ground pulling Dimitrio in with it. It's 15' tall and Dimitrio is above it so Dimitrio is 'just' underground.

Allarnon - Dimitrio is below the earth. Not far, but a little ways. I'm ruling it'll take just a standard action to dig down to him because he's so close.
So either you can dig down to him this round, or delay and hope someone else does so you can make your maneuver and tear Dimitrio in half. Er, I mean save Dimitrio.

Lief looks ready to count himself lucky, and for them to be off, when he sees the others fixing to focus on the last known location of the dancer beneath the ground. He sighs, then moves into the shifting earth, hoping to expose something for the others to grab a hold of.
"Hold just a moment, Allarnon... let's see if Dimitrio is still here, first... If he would learn to listen, we wouldn't be... in this... mess..." The young man doesn't hold back, slapping dirt away with little regard for slapping the dancer, should he reveal him within several arm pulls. Move Action to gain the center of the circle, Standard Action to dig?
Kaylayne the Undone
Kaylayne will ready to bamphf (via the Other Kaylayne) some part (probably the top half) of Dimi out of the grapple and to freedom if Lief's digging allows line of sight.
"I can't see him! I can't see him! I need to see him to rescue him!" Kaylayne warns.
Ederin Valenta
"Well f&@$!" Ederin shouts as Dimitrio is pulled underground.
Seeing Lief start to move forward, Ederin keeps his bow ready, waiting for the ant to resurface as they pull it's prey back to the surface.
Delay until the ant returns if it does.
GM_Euan
Dimitrio suffers, and cannot clear his nose and mouth. Ederin delays watching for the beast to return. Lief rushes forward and scrapes away the dirt revealing a bit of Dimitrio. Allarnon delays, grabs Dimitrio despite the cover penalty, and PULLS, but he cannot match the strength of the muck dweller! Kaylayne sees enough of Dimitrio however to send the other to free him and does so.
Dimitrio is still smothered, as his mouth and nose fill with the muck and he takes 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2) = 6 cold damage and 1 constitution damage for an additional 1d4 ⇒ 1 round. Further, he cannot speak or breathe. He can clear the muck with a DC 15 Constitution check as a move action, others can assist (though I’m not sure the rolls - so we’ll just say Dimitrio is cleaned up after this round).

Allarnon - 10 (-8hp)
-Round 3-
Dimitrio - 29 (-69hp, -3 constitution damage)
Ederin - 21 (-8hp)

Lief - 15+ (-8hp)
Muck Lion - 15- (-319hp, -40’)
We are out of initiative.
Kaylayne the Undone
Kaylayne rushes down to aid Dimitrio, casting Create Water to over more than enough water to have him dripping from head to foot. Fun fact: the average shower uses about 17.2 gallons. Kaylayne just offered Dimi 28 gallons of good aligned (aka golden) water to shower with.
"Dimi, are you okay? Just breathe...breathe..." Kaylayne eyes dart from Dimi's face to that of the Other Kaylayne dancing nearby. "You're fine now...you'll be fine."
Why the Other Kaylayne dances, Kaylayne cannot say...but the easy mirth and joy in the expression leaves Kaylayne ill at ease. Something just isn't right.
"You were right, Lief. That was not just the apex predator, but also nearly unkillable. We hammered it...yet it stood as if it were nothing."
