Ed spends much of the week upgrading his gear and figuring out how to divvy up a fortune he'd never expected to have. Part of him regrets not saving more to spend back home, maybe build his own small empire in riddleport, but he knew the money was likely to save their lives and that would have to be enough.

When it came time to finally start the next leg of adventure Ederin fit his new goggles over his eyes, wincing as the strap tugged on a few hairs, and got ready.

No going back now. he thinks as his form loses substance and he follows the rest of the party through the gate.


Roll 20 Map

The party forms into wisps of vapor and launch themselves through the portal. As they go streaming into the chamber where they fought the drow not so long ago, they note the dead have been removed, but no drow guard remains to protect the portal on their side. Those forces are apparently elsewhere…

With help from Ederin, Kaylayne, and Lief, you fly incredibly quickly into the dark tunnels and twisted passages of the Darklands. During the first grueling 10 hour day (I’m not going to worry about forced march for two hours, but you are tired, though not fatigued at the end of it) you pass by many creatures, both horrible and wondrous.

You pass through the three distinct layers of the Darklands in your journey.

The Nar-Voth is the uppermost region of the Darklands, descending from the surface of Golarion to a depth of about 2000 feet. This region consists of a series of interconnected cave networks, some of which are connected to one another through lengthy twisting passages. While the caverns are immense and span great distances, they do not span the length of entire continents. For a cave system to be considered part of Nar-Voth, there must be a passage leading down to Sekamina, where such vast systems can be found. When surface-dwelling races talk about the Darklands, they are generally referring to Nar-Voth, as this is the only section that most of them have been in contact with.

Sekamina is the middle realm of the Darklands, deeper than shallow tunnels of Nar-Voth and more well-known than deep Orv. This region consists of vast and seemingly unending underground caverns and tunnels that span continents. Found here are massive chambers, great underground rivers, and almost unfathomable lakes. Most of the entrances to Sekamina require traveling through Nar-Voth first, but there are a few deviations to this. Sekamina starts at a depth of approximately 2,000 feet and extends to about 8,000 feet. This is predominately where the drow live and you do see a drow citadel as you whisk by.

Finally, you reach Orv - the deepest of the three layers that compose Golarion's vast underground Darklands. It is the most mysterious and isolated part, and consists of dozens of immense enchanted chambers called vaults: gigantic caverns thousands of feet in height and covering regions large enough to contain entire nations. Each vault of Orv has its own rules, its own environment, and its own masters. Most vaults seem to be representative of entire biomes, to include deserts, jungles, forests, and even an underground sea. Other than legends, very little is known of this region. Even for the inhabitants of Nar-Voth and Sekamina, much of Orv remains shrouded in fear and mystery.

You know you have arrived in Orv, and in the Land of Black Blood, when the tunnel you are coursing through widens and you sense a vast dark chamber before you - and the smell creeps into your nostrils and even into your very spirit. You cannot see far with your darkvision, but it is clear you are in a wide open space.

You pause and solidify just inside the chamber. You remove a Map of the Land of Black Blood, provided by the mysterious Pathfinder who travelled here before you. (obviously the letter guides are not on the map, save for ‘A’ and ‘E’ - which on your map are marked ‘Entrance’ and ‘Haiten Bhaq’ respectively).

You still have hours of Wind Walk remaining and some 20-30 miles yet to go to your first destination.

Kaylayne tries to take note of the various strata she passes through on the journey, and while she knows there are differences logically, when she sees it going through it, it's mostly just dark, if not dark and dank.

"I think this is Orv," Kaylayne stops her flight to whisper (if she can talk at all). If she can, she will examine the map, trying to find landmarks with which to adjust and pinpoint their location.

"I think we are here...and need to go there. This is a large large cavern, and might have more dangers here than most. Keep your guard up."

Darkvision to Tarkir, to be sure. Extended Barkskin to Kaylayne.

Dimitrio could see in the dark just fine but it was just not the same. Not when your world ended just 60' ahead of you. One could never see out to the horizon in the underdark. One could never experience the vastness of something. One was always thinking that a wall or, worse, a monster was just out of your range of vision. Merely 60' away.

He hadn't realized this in the drow kingdom where everything was new and exciting but it was very evident here in this dark, cold world. He pitied the people that had been forced to live here and maybe even could start to understand their hatred towards those that forced them.

Layne's words wake him out of his reverie. He looks at the map and nods.

Enjoying the feel of his solid body, he adds, "Let's continue using the spell granted to us. We can solidify again once we are closer and maybe walk the last 1/2 mile or so."

Allarnon's wispy form wobbles and shifts in agreement. "Let's use these forms while we still have the advantage."

The bearman's wispy form floats quickly through the air, staying low to the ground as he follows the trail as best as possible. "Let's find us a genie."

"The genie is this way!" His voice carries like whispers on the wind as he moves through the several underground wonders. Excitement courses through his veins again as he is living the stories told by his ancestors.

No buffs for Tarkir / Allarnon until Wind Walk wears off.

Lief makes observations about the changing layers of the Underdark, as best he can, given the limitations of his magic. Initially, he keeps his pace wary, unsure of the true capability of flying in wind-form. He intentionally brushes up against formations, feeling little of the interaction between his non-corporeal form and the real world, so allows himself to speed up, even though his vision cautions him mentally to avoid running headlong into something out of the black.

He allows the tracker to guide them towards their first destination.

Kaylayne nods at Allarnon, trusting the guide to guide them to the Genie's lair which might be near the eastern side of the southern ridge of mountains.

Roll 20 Map

Following Dimitrio's advice, you whisk your way through the air at high speed another half hour or so, until the statues thicken, and you can see a structure up ahead.

You slow, and congeal once again into your normal forms.

A wide building of lighter stone rises from the dark stone here. A grove of statues stands before the building, each form contorted and with some of their features unfinished or broken off. A pathway leads through these statues to a large set of doors in the building’s facade.

You're 60' from the building - the furthest you can be and still see it. (New map up, but you're a little further than indicated.)

Lief takes a good look at the statues. For the dwelling of a shaitan, he expects anything made from stone to be in perfect condition.

The statues seem to have been carved by a varied number of different artists. Close examination reveals different styles throughout. This does not look like the work of one person, or genie.

Some of the statues are very old indeed and there is a mix of old and young throughout the stone garden.

As the looming building comes within sight and the wind walk spells effects wear off leaving him in his material form once again, Allarnon does what protective elements he can to himself and Tarkir.

Allarnon slowly makes his way through the several statues as he looks at them closely as his bodies skin shreds and leaves a trail on the ground while he forms into his more comfortable bear-like state.

He makes his way to the set of double doors and gives them a small shove to open them.

Lief imagines that by opening the doors, the shaitan will know immediately of their presence. Whether she approaches them amicably or hostilely, he doesn't know. Especially when the first thing to cross her doorstep is a large bear, of all things.

He waits silently to see what happens. He pictures Allarnon turning into stone, to become another statue in the shaitan's personal courtyard collection.

Cautious about the statues, the bard keeps his distance from the art works but moves forward toward the wide building.

"Well, we may as well announce ourselves. This is definitely the right way to do things."

Without waiting for anyone else's permission, he heralded, "Hello there, Master Genie. Mr. Bhaq, sir, are you in? We come in peace..."

Kaylayne joins Allarnon in his observations about the statues. "Well, they did mention that this genie fancies the stone. It makes some sense," Kaylayne considers as she prepares herself for trouble.

Kaylayne, for the time being, stays very, very close to Tarkir, floating above and behind him.

As his body becomes more solid and eventually returns to it's natural form, Ederin breathes a sigh of relief. The journey had been interesting, but he couldn't get comfortable with his gaseous form and feeling the ground below his feet was a much better sensation, even if they were stranded far below the surface.

While Dimitrio called out for their genie, Ederin looks around for any tracks or signs of recent life that might point them toward Haiten.

Roll 20 Map

As Dimitrio errs, and Allarnon opens the unlocked, and in fact, unlatched doors, Edrin notes the tracks of 9 light humanoid individuals. If he were a betting man, he'd think elven, but of course down here...

Allarnon confirmed it as the door swings wide.

The walls of the entrance hallway open outward, suggesting a much wider space within the main shrine. Blood stains the marble tile, and the bodies of two drow lie crumpled on the floor - one crushed as if by a great weight, the other slammed into the far right pillar and folded in half around it.

This wide, oblong room is constructed of the same pale stone as the rest of the shrine. Clear crystals and pale gems create and reflect light around the high-ceilinged chamber some 50’ up, standing from the stone of the walls like ageless sconces. Staircases on either side of the room lead up to a 20’ elevated altar platform on the far side.

Atop that platform is an incredible sight. The Genie (image) in all her glory is battling a handful of drow crowding her on both sides. Taking a quick mental note Allarnon's claws grow twice their size and he bursts right past Haiten Bhaq. Using his newly sharpened claws Allarnon digs into the wall and quickly climbs it to cut the drow off. Once at the top he screams out in rage. Spittle and the heat from his mouth whoosh the drow's white hair back as Allarnon flies into a rage directly in front of it.

Ederin opens up finishing Pink and dropping Purple with a critical! Lief connects with the injured Red I suppose, and drops him. Allarnon leaps in position, drawing an AoO from Orange while Tarkir slams into Blue. Dimitrio must move to close with his opponent (up stairs) and so only gets one attack - which does connects. Kaylayne rips Allarnon from space and places him in a new location, to better defend the party.
