Just waiting on Lothar.
My understanding of the marching order:
Xzot and Nark Snarky: at the front, with Lony; no weapons drawn
Omak Kron: in the middle, no weapon drawn
Flametouched: bringing up the rear, sword drawn
If anyone would like to specify weapons drawn or other travelling / marching details, now would be a good time!

Nark Snarky |

Nark has his shortbow drawn and ready. Sidenote also, now took a look and noticed that druid are not proficient with bows/shortbows so will be including in my rolls -4 to attack bringing it to total +3. Went through once more my druid in case I failed to notice something

@ Lothar: There we go.
@ Everyone: With a loose plan formulated, the party takes another brief look around, and resolves to journey northeast, to the suspicious-looking shantytown a few miles off. The first steps of the journey are not yet underway when Lothar and Ormak feel a queer and terrifying sensation...
With your packs shouldered and your marching order decided, the party takes its first steps together... but just as soon as you set your sights on the northeastern horizion, all hell (so to speak), breaks loose.
Moments before the melee literally erupts all around you, Lothar and Ormak feel a barely-perceptable swell beneath their feet... a subtle shift in the earth that tells you that there's something moving in the cracked, red earth beneath them.
Suddenly, a trio of six rock-plated, serpentine creatures erupt from the earth. Each "worm" is nearly six feet in length, and a visible heat-haze shimmers in the air around each one.
@ Everyone
The creatures that erupt from the earth do appear to have the ability to percieve you while burrowing, but they can't differentiate between you from underground, or "see" you per se.
Since you all occupy a 5x5 foot "space" and the monsters can't choose their targets from underground based on sight, I'm going to roll randomly in the interest of fairness and transparency to determine who the creatures engage, initially. The three highest rolls shall be engaged first!
(I like to roll these things "on the table" when I can.)
Flametouched 1d20 ⇒ 14
Nark Snarky1d20 ⇒ 9
Lony the Wolf 1d20 ⇒ 3
Lothar Noson1d20 ⇒ 11
Xzot1d20 ⇒ 14
Ormak Kron1d20 ⇒ 20
Stand by, all...

@ Nark Snarky: I need an initiative roll for Lony as well. Also, it's just occurred to me that you need to list Lony's tricks.
Familiarize yourself with the rules for Handle Animal if you need to, and remember that you'll need to take the "Attack" trick twice if you want Lony to be able to attack "unnatural" creatures like aberrations, undead, and outsiders.
It's going to require a Handle Animal check to direct Lony's actions in combat. When it comes to animal companions, you can make one check as a free action each round. You don't need to make a check except when you want to change commands (say, from "attack these" to "defend Ormak"). I would guess that Lony's "standing orders" are "defend me."
EDIT: Also, if you'd like to change that shortbow to a sling or something you're proficient with, I'm fine with that change.

Nark Snarky |

@ Garden Tool: Mhm, this moment there is not really any need to use the commands due to "unknown" people. Nark prefers this case to keep Lony next to him and guard rather than send off to attack.
Plus I have Lony´s trick already listed under his statistic: Attack & Guard. The next trick will be most likely 2nd Attack command or Heel
Here also the initiative of Lony 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
EDIT: Thinking about it but chuckled here when idea of +5 sling popped in my mind. Might as well change it and ammo types

@ Everyone: Though we're still waiting on Ormak, I've uploaded an Excel-based map to my GoogleDocs. I've sent each of you an e-mail: let me know if you don't get it, or if you have trouble seeing or using the map.
There is a map key, but you'll need to highlight the description fields to read the text therein. I can't seem to "Merge & Center" in GoogleDocs.
In short:
The brown/grey is wreckage (rough terrain, increased Acrobatics and Stealth DCs),
the dark pink is rubble (rough terrain, increased Acrobatics and Stealth DCs),
the light pink is scree (increased Acrobatics and Stealth DCs),
the dark red is 10-foot high rock shelf (Climb DC 15),
the light red is 5-foot high rock shelf (Climb DC 15),
and the light grey is 5-foot deep pit (Climb DC 20, increased Acrobatics and Stealth DCs)
The black capitol letters are PCs, the green letters are allies (a green "w" for Lony, in this case), and the red question marks (?) are enemies. Red question marks will be replaced with red letters as enemies are identified.
EDIT: Fixed opening statement.

...
..
.
18; the monsters
14; Lony the Wolf
12 (+9); Nark Snarky (with sling ready)
12 (+6); Ormak Kron (with no weapons drawn)
12 (+4); Lothar Noson (with composite longbow ready)
6; Flametouched (with longsword ready)
5; Lady Jenise (Xzot, with no weapons drawn)
Only the monsters, Ormak, and Lothar will act in the surprise round. Single actions (plus five-foot steps) only.
Bursting up from the earth, the bizzare, molten worms attack swiftly.
The first assaults Lady Jenise, easily catching the hapless noblewoman with a burning body-slam.
slam attack: 1d20 ⇒ 19 vs. flat-footed AC
slam damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Xzot, I need a Reflex save from you.
The second worm scrapes harmlessly off of Flametouched's adamantine plating. It takes a five-foot step into square BD-44.
slam attack:1d20 ⇒ 9 vs. flat-footed AC
The third creature corkscrews into Ormak, landing a solid blow with the length of it's rocky body.
slam attack:1d20 ⇒ 20 vs. flat-footed AC
critical confirmation:1d20 ⇒ 1
slam damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Ormak, I need a Reflex save from you.
Ormak, it is your turn. The map has been updated to reflect the monster's current positions.
@ Everyone: I am NOT showing modifiers on monster rolls, except for initiative and damage rolls (by necessity, of course). Please see my latest posts on the discussion page (the one about "forecasting" actions and the one about monster's rolls).
Please update the map as you move around. The map updates in real-time, so do NOT update before your turn.

Ormak Kron |

The shifter lets out a savage snarl, flexes his arms and grows a pair of wicked looking claws. His eyes change from their normal green to a golden hue and stripes like that of a tiger appear on his forearms. He then slashes the fiery worm Free action, begins shifting, lasts for 7 rounds, +2 Str and claws. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Claw for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Almost forgot 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 Reflex

![]() |

Despite a sublime attack on his part, the worm-thing evades Lothar's arrow.
The surprise round is over.
The monster at BE42 has 4 damage.
Xzot has 7 damage, and nearly caught fire.
Ormak Kron has 11 damage, and needs to make a Reflex save.
The first round of combat will now begin.
The monster at BE42 continues it's attack against the burned shifter. This time, the creature strikes only air.
slam attack: 1d20 ⇒ 9
It takes a five-foot step into space BE41.
The monster at BD44 continues to flail against its impervious warforged opponent.
slam attack: 1d20 ⇒ 13
The monster at BF39 has more success, trying hard to make a meal out of Lady Jenise.
slam attack: 1d20 ⇒ 16
slam damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Xzot you take 4 slam damage, 3 more fire damage, and I need a second Reflex save from you.
Lony the wolf (having no specific commands to obey) moves to BG 39. Having seen the furry man and the fancy lady burned by the monsters, Lony comes to his master's defense without attacking directly.
aid another attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
The aid another attempt is successful. Nark Snarky benefits from an aid another AC bonus.
Nark Snarky, it is your turn. If you'd care to wait, I still need Reflex saves from Ormak Kron and Xzot. If you're not concerned with the results of those rolls, you may simply act now.

Nark Snarky |

Nark takes 5 feet step backward [BH41]and rises his sling to shoot at the creature [BF39] while yelling to Lony Lony, bug bad! Itz killz time
Sling attack 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 7 - 4 = 11 Damage 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 (full-round action)
Command Lony: Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 (free action)
Nark [+2 AC from aid another]

![]() |

Ormak, you've caught fire (by virtue of touching the creature and failing your latest save). That's the bad news. You can attempt to put yourself out, gaining a new save as a full-round action. Rolling on the ground will give you a +4 bonus on the save.
Your attack lands for 7 damage (that's the good news), but - once again - touching the creature causes you to burn.
burn damage:1d6 ⇒ 5
Normally, you would make another Reflex save now, but you're already on fire.
Ormak, you take 5 fire damage, and it is now Lothar's turn.
Xzot, I still need a second Reflex save from you.

Flametouched |

Seeing the shifter and Lady Jenise afflicted by these corruptions of the Divine Flame, Flametouched's normally-fixed expression turns visibly angry... and then genuinely enraged. It turns away from the worm flailing ineffectively against it, raising its shining, silver blade to slash into the hide of the monster burning Ormak's flesh. Free action: rage. (See profile for statistics while raging.) Five foot step to BD42, then two-handed attack on the worm in BE41: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12, damage 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8. Unfortunately, the thing's thick hide sends the blade skittering aside with no effect.

Xzot aka Lady Jenise |

Round 1
HP: 8/22
AC: 17 FF 14 T 13 CMD 15
F/R/W: 3/8/1
[/ooc]
Repeatedly burned, Lady Jenise begins to fear for her life in the face of these creatures. The rapier at her side, done up to look fanciful and gaudy in her current guise, is revealed to be quite functional as she draws it forth and strikes at the creature between her and Flametouched.
Move to draw rapier, standard to strike creature at BE41, flanking with Flametouched.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (5) = 9

![]() |

Injured but not discouraged, the creature assaulting the badly-burned Ormak continues its attempt on the shifter's life. The thing slams into Ormak's torso yet again, searing him badly.
attack roll: 1d20 ⇒ 17
slam damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The creature takes a five-foot step into space BE40.
Ormak, you take thirteen more damage this round (a seventeen on the d20 and max damage on both dice!). You're already on fire, so I don't need a Reflex save from you.
The creature engaging Lady Jenise five-foot steps into space BG40, and attacks her with flanking. The noblewoman is ready this time, however.
attack roll: 1d20 ⇒ 7
The third creature follows Flametouched (five-foot step into space BC43), intent on reducing the warforged's component parts to slag. This time, the monster's pointed "beak" end finds purchase.
attack: 1d20 ⇒ 15
slam damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Flametouched, you take four slam damage (minus DR), two fire damage, and I need a Reflex save from you.
Meanwhile, Lony the wolf steps into space BH40, flanking with Lady Jenise and positioning itself between its master and the monsters as best it can. Bracing itself for a burn, the wolf dutifully snaps at the smoldering, worm-like creature with a Power Attack.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
bite damage: 1d6 + 4[/dice]
The attack sears Lony's flesh as it makes contact.
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Lony does not catch fire.
Nark Snarky, it is your turn. PS: I notice you have a [cold] spell prepared.
Flametouched, I need a Reflex save from you.

![]() |

Flametouched, you're on fire. And not in a good way.
You can try to put yourself out as a full-round action on your turn. If you drop prone and roll around, you get a +4 bonus on the save. I suspect that rolling around on the floor provokes, though.
It was more or less my intention to bring you together as a party and indebt you all to one another in battle, with a tough encounter right off the bat. Assuming you survive, I'll have accomplished that, at least!

Nark Snarky |

Hm... this seems to be really though one since people are starting to take damage.. EDIT: ah damn, a goblin on fire!
You be chilling food Nark declares as he see how the the creature is slamming others and setting them on fire. Touching the creature releases magic from his finger tips
Frostbite [melee touch 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 non-lethal]
Reflex save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

![]() |

NOTE: I've just realized that Ormak Kron went down into the negatives after this lastest round of attacks. He is on fire and bleeding out...
NOTE: My die formula screwed up on Lony's attack. I never rolled for damage. The monster took 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 from Lony's bite.
Nark, you provoke an attack of opportunity by casting from that square. Fortunately, the creature misses you, having been distracted by the business of burning through Lady Jenise as fast as it can.
slam attack of opportunity: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Unfortunately, touching the creature burns you.
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Nark takes 3 points of fire damage, and you catch fire.
Frost spreads agressively across the worm-thing's exterior, cooling the red-hot flesh between the plates wherever it touches. The creature takes 7 points of nonlethal cold damage from your spell, and is fatigued (no save). As the frost spreads across the creature's hide, so too does fire spread across Nark's green skin.
Ormak Kron, it would be your turn, but you are at -3 hp and on fire.
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
The flames engulfing you cause you to take 4 more points of fire damage. You are at -7, and you are not stable. I need a stabilization roll from you. You can use your action point to stabilize, but if you take fire damage again, you'll destabilize automatically. In the meantime, I'm going to move on.
Ormak Kron, I need a stabilization roll from you.
Lothar Noson, it is your turn.
It is Lothar Noson's turn.
The monster in space BE40 has taken 16 damage.
The monster in space BG 40 has taken 14 damage, and is fatigued. It has used up it's attack of opportunity for this round.
Ormak Kron has taken 32 points of damage, is on fire, and is dying.
Nark Snarky has taken 3 points of damage, and is on fire.
Lony the Wolf has taken 1 point of damage.
Lady Jenise (Xzot) has taken 14 points of damage.
Flametouched has taken 4 points of damage, and is on fire.
