I'll let people look at the new map and see if that changes anyone's posts--then we'll continue.

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Hmm. Hadn't envisaged Edie being quite so close as unless she moves at least 3 squares per turn, she doesn't get her much needed concealment. No change to her previously posted actions though.

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Just curious before I post my second round, do I know how my round 1 actions played out? (how many I hit and so on?)

Edie: Kendall moved back to try and get everyone in his aura which took Edie from being on the outskirts and pulled the center of the fight to where she was--and put Kai, who was also back a bit, closest to the heavy hitters as they came tearing out of the tavern. I fudged Aleenas actual position a bit to give Kendall a place where everyone could be adjacent to him, just to keep things moving. Granted as part of her movement she's free to move further back out of the way, she'll just be outside Kendall's Defend the Line effect.

Kai: Since "Chucks Guy" is down, you could have shifted into his spot and targeted Maborg with the orb and caught "Hammer Guy" in the blast. Or since the orb (weirdly) only targets enemies with the shrapnal blast, you could target "Hammer Guy" for the primary hit and catch both "Axes Guy" and Maborg with shrapnel. It shouldn't affect Aleena at all. Either way, I'll take your original rolls as your to-hits and damage rolls. Just let me know.

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Since it only goes against enemies (and yeah - that's a nice power that only hits enemies -- most tend to be indiscriminant at low level... :) but I picked powers that mostly only target enemies so I can sling freely),
Anyway, I would've lobbed it where it hits the most target -- so it sounds like:
Primary: Hammerman
Secondary: Axeman-1, Axeman-2, and Maborg.

Only one Axeman, with two axes, but yeah. Cool.
Kai-Sovis sees Kendall take down the crewman with the nunchaku and immediately darts through the hole standing over the groaning figure. He works his hands, fingers blurring as the magic takes hold, his voice echoing and reverberating with words of magic. From his outstretched hand launches a sphere of crystal that flies like an arrow, lancing out and striking the hammer wielder in the chest, erupting into an explosion of force that looks much like an underwater explosion. He roars in pain and blood flies. The shrapnel, like icicles blow outward, but obeying Kai's precice gestures whip around Aleena and her bizarre progeny, and focus themselves on the axeman attacking Aleena and their leader Maborg. Both men leap clear of the attack which chews up the cobblestones around them and rings off of their armor.

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

Clarification: I stuck myself next to three guys. If they moved away from me or attacked anyone else while next to me, I get a swing. If they did attack anyone else, as well, they also have a -2 to strike them unless the attack also includes me. It's basically an aura 1 mark.

Just throw down those rolls wherever if there weren't enough provocations.

Suddenly things make so much more sense. Okay so you put yourself in the middle of the three guys coming out of the window, not the PCs. That changes some stuff! Yeah. Not for the better though. You still take down Chucks Guy and keep him from hitting Kai, but Maborg and Hammer Guy will end up hitting Kai, triggering a second attack from Hammer Guy. Also Axes Guy will now end up hitting Aleena. Yikes!

THE REAL MAP

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Round two
Kai steps over the crumpled body with the nunchaku, sliding in next to Kendall's shield. He uses his arcane teaching to focus his mind for a moment in the chaos of combat... with a glance and flick of the wrist he sends two of the thugs back through the window they were leaping from.
Then with a blaze he turns back to Maborg. Kai's eyes light up, and fire springs to his call... blue, white, and red sparks of molten metal begin to rain down upon his enemies. But doing his best to not kill the already fallen foe.

I think I can SHIFT to put Kendall between me and Aleena and still be protected by both Kendall and Aleena's rug... err... daughter.
So...
MOVE ACTION: Shift away from Maborg
STANDARD ACTION: Psychic Surge vs the two coming out of the window.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 vs WILL of "shortsword guy"
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 vs WILL of "coming out of window guy"
If they hit, they each take Damage: 4 = 4 psychic damage and are pushed 3 squares... I'd like to force them back through the window (as painfully as possible).
ACTION POINT: Argent Rain targeting the area between Kendall and the Inn
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 vs REF of "hammer guy"
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 vs REF of Maborg
If they hit, they take Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 fire damage and the area is on fire till my next turn - ALL CREATURES take 5 damage.
I'm also assuming that the nunchaku guy is out of combat, so I wouldn't include him in the attack.

Holy crap!

So combat actually shakes out like this:

Kai: Attacked by Hammer Guy, takes 2. (1d10+1, rolled 1),
Maborg still misses...forgot he'd rolled a 4.

Aleena: Attacked by Axes Guy, take 11 (1d10+1, rolled 10)

Kai Sovis, turns and begins to incant, then turns, he can feel the gears of his powerful mind begin to translate into physical force, which he brings to bear on the two crewmen in front of him. Like ragdolls he lifts them up off their feet and tosses them crumpled through the glass strewn portal they crawled out of.

Before his intonations are done for the first spell, he is already onto the second, flaming rain pounding down upon the two who had been hurting him. They erupt in flames, desperately trying to put themselves out--though with his infernal ancestory, Maborg does not seem to be affected to quite the same degree. The crewman with the hammer however sways to and fro on his last legs--blackened and bleeding.

(Before last round is over..)
The crewman with the two shortswords licks his lips and decides to take his chances circling around the dwarf to peel off toward the shepherd girl, but no sooner does he try and slip clear than he is met with a crushing hammer blow to the back of his knee. He yelps and staggers forward, but stops far short of his target.

(Then he gets blown through the window. Man, some guys got no luck at all. Heh.)

I'd like to take up your offer and instead deploy B.B. south-east of me, between hammer guy and chucks guy.

Using this map as reference

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Could you clarify who she cursed in round 2?
I think Chuks was her original victim, in which case he's down and she'll use the teleport.
Where she teleports to depends on who got the Round 2 curse and if she can flicker to a flank with an ally. The teleport is an immediate when Chuks drops.

Edie feels fey power course through her as Chuks drops like a stone and she swiftly scans the battlefield to try and identify her next victim.

Female Human Hybrid Cleric|Druid (Sentinel) 1

Round 2

Aleena beseeches Krosus to heal her most promising student.

Minor Action: Healing Word on Kai, who can spend a healing surge and regain 1d6 ⇒ 5 additional hit points.
Battle Cleric's Lore grants Kai a +2 bonus to attacks until the end of Aleena's next turn.

She continues to wail on axes guy.
Battle Cleric's Weapon Mastery: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 vs. AC. 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 damage.

Move Action: Shift east one square.

I'm on 13 HP.

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Aleena, you should heal yourself - I only took two hp of damage. You got hit a lot worse.

Female Human Hybrid Cleric|Druid (Sentinel) 1

Whoops, you're right Kai. Comprehension error on my part.

I'd better fix myself up using Heal Word, for 11 HP.

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Round 3 (tentative posting)

Curse whichever of Axes or Short Swords she hasn't cursed already

Eldritch Blast v Axes Guy Ref 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Flub

Move six squares north and gain concealment

Edie snarls, points and blurs into shadow as she tries to get clear of the melee in front of her.

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

Round 3

Kendall hefts his craghammer, after Kai explodes the area with psychic power. He crosses past Kai, stepping over the downed Nunchucks guy and plants himself next to Maborg and the Hammer guy. " Enough, damn fool. Even if you did defeat us eventually, you'd not be able to pilot that ship in time to save anyone."

To reinforce the matter, he thrusts his heavy shield forward at the Tiefling, then raises his craghammer overhead to clout Maborg.

MBA 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 for 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Maborg is slowed if that hits, if he was already slowed, I knock him down.

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

My aura still holds by the way, I get OAs on anyone who attacks another while standing next to me, they also get -2 to attack anyone else. I get an OA on anyone who shifts away from me. Anyone struck by an OA is slowed. If I miss my OA, I still deal 5 damage to them.

Maborg nods grimly, slapping down the last remaining gouts of flame on his armor. "True. This fighting is folly. There are crew of mine who await me." he steps toward his fallen crewman and bends to check his injuries "I applaud your restraint. This one should be dead."

"Hey boss!" says the gruff voiced axeman, holstering his axes. "I think that one tha' done run off cursed me or something. Do I gotta' worry 'bout what that's gonna' do if I don't get it taken care of?"

A meaty blackened hand slaps the back of his helmet. "Look at me Olak!" the fire blackened warrior laughs, stowing his warhammer. "If I don't die from all this, you sure won't from what you got..."

From inside the tavern comes the sound of groans and broken glass and furniture. The bartender glares furiously out the broken hole in his shop but scurries away, unwilling to press the matter.

The ground gives another shudder, some cobblestones wiggle loose of their mortar, exhaling little puffs of dust through the cracks. Maborg gives a concerned look to the ground and sets his jaw, but says nothing.

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Kai's eyes still smolder as he mentally considers the encounter, Interesting litmus test for us, we seemed to have survived the fire... I think I like these bunkmates! He flashes a quick smile to his teammates and brushes a little dust from the sleeves of his travel robes.

The rumble of the ground finally pulls Magus Eclavim's attention from the other salvage team. He focuses for a moment to see if he can discern the source.
Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

Kendall gives Maborg the big eye for a moment, but seems sated that the fighting has stopped. " Now for the bigger question, what is causing that shaking?" He motions that he's going outside to investigate, but tries to keep this other team in view as he does so.

For Kai-Sovis:
There clearly isn't an arcane connection here: yes a big list of potential sources of arcane involvement, but there are enough subtle clues to rule out each one. It would seem the tremors are coming from something big moving underground, some kind of creature digging it's way through the earth. It seems to be having difficulty reading the surface terrain, probably due to the cobblestone streets above it and the river nearby. Creautes like this are probably from up in the mountains and could have followed Maborg and his crew from the crash site, probably ambushing them every time they stopped to rest. They must have gone into town to try and shake it, whatever it is. It seems to have followed and is now prowling back and forth underground--almost pacing, looking for an opening to strike--and Edie has run off cloaked in shadows onto open ground!

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Kai spends a few heart beats mentally running a private checklist of causes for tremors. He subtly shakes his head no each time he rejects a theory. Finally he stops, looks straight at Edie, his eyes flash with a bit of terror...

Not a shout, but in a clear voice, "Lady Edie. Do. Not. Move. Everyone else stop." Kai-Sovis grasps Kendall's arm, trying to stop his forward progress.

Turning towards Maborg. His spine straightens and his voice deepens as if addressing an unruly student that has just set their desktop on fire (again). "It followed you into town. You've put all of these people in danger. What is it exactly? Be fast."

Kai continues to his shipmates still in a lecture-tone. Matter-of-factly, "Some subterranean creature is most probably tracking the tiefling and his thugs down from the mountains. It is the most reasonable explanation for the tremors. The cobblestones and building floors could be confusing it for now... but..." Kai tries to draw Kendall's eyes towards Edie, one of the only one of us who is standing on patch of grassy field instead of worked stone.

Ah, "Tremors", we need Kevin Bacon here to help us out.

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

Kendall raises an eyebrow, "Explain." It is unclear if his order is to Kai or to Maborg.

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Edie holds still, nods and vanishes. Before anyone has time to gasp, she reappears beside Kai.

"Good warning, our Kai."

Fey Step to teleport back to the main group.

"Ankhegs..." says Maborg, frowning. "Of a sort; the strange snows have...affected them. I didn't think they'd follow us out of the mountains."

He puts an arm around his unconcious shipmate and hefts him up onto his shoulders.

"Stupid mindless beasts chewed us up every time we stopped to rest. Wouldn't have been so bad, but..." His voice trails off, then he looks up as though unsure he'll be taken seriously, "they cast magic."

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

Nature: 1d20 ⇒ 19

For Kendall:
ANKHEG IMAGE--You can tell, once you focus on the vibrations that it's definitely an ankheg scratching around about 20 feet down, probing the underside of the street for weaknesses. Large underground dwelling bugs, ankhegs are a constant plague in underground areas. They are notoriously stupid and relentless, tracking food over days and continuing to attack despite grievous injury. They are totally fearless, though loud sounds can irritate them into briefly withdrawing.

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

He murmurs, "Yes, I can feel it, within the very earth beneath us. a stones throw straight down." He coughs once then grips his weapon hesitantly, "Without fear and mercy, the bugs are stupid, but there's a possibility we could scare them off with enough loud noise. We don't want to fight this thing in a town. My suggestion, barring anyone who has sonic powers, is that we all jump, stomp and come down with as much weight and force as we can muster at once. Hit the ground with weapons as well, that *may* do it."

SKILL CHALLENGE TIME GUYS! Everyone interested in scaring off what's down there give me skill checks and some prose about how you're using them. I'll tally successes and failures!

Or not! I'll let you guys discuss!

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Kai looks quizzically at the dwarf. "This creature followed the tiefling all the way from the mountains and you expect a little loud jumping to scare it off? ... Permanently?
Why not draw it out into the open with all of us in a strategic location and burn it down?"

Female Human Hybrid Cleric|Druid (Sentinel) 1

"My B.B. can imitate a cacophony of sounds! Many of which could drive it away or funnel it towards a strategic location!"

I don't know… Bluff?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Aleena's daughter tries her best to shake the cobblestones with Dubstep.

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Edie scowls horribly at Maborg and his crew.

"Tha heard Sir Kendall. Sing high and jump hard. Now!"

[ooc]Intimidate 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

She points her wand at them to emphasise her point and starts chanting loudly.

"Yan, TAN, Tether, METHER, Pip, Azer, Sezar, Akker, Conter, Dick, Yanadick, Tanadick, Tetheradick, Metheradick, Bumfit, Yanabum, Tanabum, Tetherbum, Metherbum, JIGGIT, Yan . . ."

Aleena's strange daughter assumes the form of some great metallic contraption, squalking out strange noises, her myriad black eyespots searching around uncertainly for approval. While the sound is indeed obnoxious, it seems to do more to lure the monster than repel it--thinking it the death throes of some tasty farm animal perhaps. The ground begins to shake violently, causing those in the streets to lose their footing as they are peppered with debris falling from the buildings around them. (inflicting 3 points of damage to everyone and granting a -2 to future Dex based rolls)

Edie is tremendously effective, her wand enforced threats whipping Maborg and his team into a noisemaking machine, their blows ringing loud and perfectly synchronized. They are cowed enough that further requests made of them will gain a +2 bonus as they pitch in to do whatever is requested. It's not enough racket yet to drive off the creature, but more of this kind of effort seems to be just the thing!

(1 Success/1 Failure)

Male Dwarf 1 Knight

Kendall eyes Aleena's...thing? "What in blazes is that?" He starts to stamp his feet, regardless as Edie starts up a chant that he doesn't know the words too. Later he may add that he totally feels foolish for doing so. With the added girth of his armor, he should easily make a lot of racket, as he smacks his craghammer into the ground.

This is one time I might argue that my armor check penalty should be a bonus instead!
Athletics 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Kai tentatively raps on the nearest wall with his fist, tries a little harder... then gives up when the only sound is his grimace. He tries a different tactic: work smarter, not harder.

Clearing his throat, he calls out to Maborg's thugs, "Try jumping over there, a little to the left. No. Your other left. There should be a focus in the substrate that will resonate and amplify your efforts." When they stop at stare at him, he rewords it: "Stomp there and it will be louder!"

Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16
Could also use Nature there instead, if you think it's more appropriate, it would be +2 more.

Status: HP: 21/26

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Not understanding the language (Perhaps Dwarven? thought the words appear similar to formal counting in Korean, lol), but recognizing its sequence and assuming "JIGGIT" means to start over. Kai tries to help Edie keep time, though his pronunciation is probably off:
"Tan, TeTHER, mather, pipf, aser, SEZAR, ekker..."

Kendall, never to be one to do things halfway, and not altogether unversed in the ways of stone and steel puts boots and hammer and booming voice to good work pounding out some truly awesome levels of sound...that and Aleena's, whateveritis, seemed to be eyeballing him.

Kai-Sovis' knowledge of the accustics of sound in dungeons allows him to spread out Mabog's men into optimal positions so the soundwaves amplify downward instead of negating or bouncing outward. Just a few repositionings and the increased output is impressive.

(3 Successes/1 Failure) Good work so far! Keep it up!

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Intimidate again - unless you don't want us to use the same skill twice?
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Keeping up the beady stare, Edie maintains her focus on Maborg and his crew.

"Follow beat tha gurt numpties. Watch wand or I'll have guts for garters."

Her eyes flicker to Aleena's offspring, including the contraption in her instructions.

"Follow t'others. Not a good time for freeform work lass."

Spoiler:
Yan, tan, tether, mether is an old sheep counting rhyme from Swaledale

Here's my take: Different people can try the same skill to do the same thing, but they'll need to beat the previous high roll[ (25 to beat your best use of Intimidate to get performance out of Maborg's crew) to squeeze another success out of the same action.
But that's with a different person--the same person doing the same action using the same skill, once they've already succeeded is probably not going to be able contribute another success to the challenge, even with a higher roll.

Female Human Hybrid Cleric|Druid (Sentinel) 1

"Follow Aunty Edie's choreography, angel," urges Aleena.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Female Human Level 1 Warlock (Feypact)

Seems fair enough. Ignore Edie's last effort then and I'll do this instead.

Diplomacy:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Seeing that Maborg and his gang are doing what passes for their best, Edie tries a more encouraging approach.

"Eee, that's grand. Remember arm movements, up, right, up, left, up, up, Yan, TAN, Tether, Mether, Dick, Sezer . . . B.B. tha's doing good work there, don't fret about arms, just keep rhythm going."

Edie and Aleena's work with B.B. takes her awkward flailings and focuses them into precise and effective amplification of the rest of the group's efforts. The rumbling (and strange disturbing noise from B.B.) subside and people can concentrate enough for tasks requiring fine coordination again. (-2 to Dex goes away)

5 Successes/1 Failure

Male Genasi (Cindersoul) Evocation Mage 1

Is the bug scared off? Challenge over?

[Ooc]It can be. I had 8 set as the number of successes...but if it's killing people we can call it[/ooc)
