Dungeon Master S |

He's blind, it's a sneak attack! DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Hun stabs the kobold right in the belly! He grunts, and yips, but doesn't go down. He lashes out wildly at the rogue: High is on target: 3d100 ⇒ (15, 76, 40) = 131 The second claw is on target ATK: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 2 = 20 and connects for DMG: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 and a FORT save.
The other guard sees things going south and steps back to toss a bomb at the party below. HE aims to get Auri and Dupine 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 and the fire splashes on both for 3 damage each.
The leader, stands stunned.

Auri steps up and delivers a powerful blow to the stunned kobold, hoping to knock it out.

NL damage, PA, AS: 2d6 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 9 + 6 = 24
However the glittering lights may have put her off her mark...

Hagnar Grimstone |

Do I get to make an AoO on the kobold that stepped back and threw the bomb? If so, here it is!
AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Hagnar follows the little creature up the steps, continuing his attack!
Attack!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Dupine moves in closer behind Auri and tries to kick the very nimble opponent.
Unarmed Strike Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Thiera finds the situation amusing. Maybe someone should be laughing. She proposed to correct the deficiency with alacrity.
hideous laughter vs blue. Will DC 18negates.

Dungeon Master S |

No AoO because it was only a 5' step.
Auri loses her concentration for a split second and her swing ricochets off the armor. The kobolds do go wide-eyed at the assurance though (but the weapons coming their way say otherwise.)
Dupine's kick is dead on target, but MAN this is one tough kobold. Still, he knows how this fight is going and eyes his retreat line.
Hagnar takes a big chunk out of his foe too. Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18, and despite a giggle, the kobold keeps fighting.
Round 3:

"Weapons up! Hold off for a moment." shouts Auri.
"If they continue to attack, then lethal force it is."
It should have been obvious to at least the one she is fighting that Auri has been pulling her blows.

Dungeon Master S |

It looks like it's too late. The leader wants to run and the guards are going to cover his retreat with their lives.

Blood trickling down from his claw wounds, Hun has vengence on his mind, despite the Paladin's request.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Mstrwk Shortsword atk vs black: 1d20 + 3 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 6 - 2 = 22
Damage ?: 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (2, 1) = 8
Again, his second strike finds pay-dirt.

Dungeon Master S |

Hun's second blade deals one more deep wound, but these kobolds are made of sterner stuff.
The leader steps back and quickly mixes and extract. When he drinks it, his wounds begin to close CMW: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 7) + 6 = 14!
The sidekicks keep going (or flailing as the case may be.)
Blue steps back up the stairs yet again and throws another bomb down below! ATK: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 He scores a direct hit on Piper for DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7 (REF DC 11 for half). Hagnar takes 2.
The other blindly spins about trying to maul Hun while blind:
low is on target: 3d100 ⇒ (18, 47, 32) = 97, but they all swipe at the air!
Round 3:

Dupine closes the gap and starts pummeling the leader.
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 in case the second happens to hit, but I doubt it

Backing the leader into a corner, Auri continues to beat upon him with her greatsword.
She steps up to crowd the alchemist, but holds off attacking, readying her blow it case he does anything other than try and talk.
NL readied power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 11 - 2 - 4 = 6
I thought he was stunned for a couple of rounds, or was that just a single round stun?

Dungeon Master S |

Dupine's stars don't puncture the kobold's armor, but Hagnar's swing does it's job. Hagnar's foe, however, handles the shot well, despite the blood.
Leader was only stunned for a single round. The leader replies in Draconic:
Why surrender! It looks like an even fight, especially now that I'm healed!
Round 3:
Piper: Miss
Hunwald: HIT
Baddies: ATK
Dupine: Miss
Auri: Miss
Thiera: Go
Hagnar: Hit

Dungeon Master S |

With the situation being what it is, the kobolds stop fighting. The two guards require a bark to do so though
"what kind do of people are you? Fine. Truce. What is your end game longshanks and gnome?"

In draconic, with translation s for those who don't speak it
"We" says Auri "are here to meet with your king and try to find a way to mutually benefit from the sewers - without tripping over each other all the time. The interests we represent have lost some goods to your people, and you have come very close to losing a lot of people to us. Your garbage guards unfortunately were not quite so reasonable as yourself."
She lets that sink in.
"Please take us to the king, so that we may treat with him and come to a mutually acceptable solution. One that recognizes what your people can bring to the table, and that my people need to be able to get through the sewers without being bothered. "

Dungeon Master S |

"I'll not lead to to my fa- the king. No. No. No. If you want to speak to the king, you go to the theater yourself. You leave me out of it. I have... business elsewhere."
He is lying about having business elsewhere. Likely he's trying to get some distance.

![]() |

sense motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
"How are we supposed to find your father if you don't take us there?" asks a reasonable Auri.
"And we would prefer not to have any more ...disagreements.. with your people. I'd much rather conclude the trade arrangements without further bloodshed. Such things are much less likely to happen if you are with us, wouldn't you say?" she adds, sternly.

![]() |

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
It takes a tremendous amount of willpower for Hun not to slice the kobold guard from stem to stern... but he manages to belay his deathly desires.
To the lead kobold, Hun will say bluntly in common, "Come on, Yippitok... you ain't fooling us one bit, your business can wait. And I know you speak common. How else would you negotiate prices for your crummy traps!? Take us to see you father."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Hagnar Grimstone |

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Hagnar is too busy watching the kobold he was fighting to catch any nuances or cues from the head kobold...but sensing the immediate threat is over, he sheathes his +1 scimitar, holds his holy symbol aloft, and whispers a prayer to Sarenrae—the goddess of the sun, redemption, honesty, and healing. A wave of positive energy expands from the symbol, healing all within a 30' radius (so everybody!) of 6d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 4) = 12 points of damage!
"An example of our goodwill and wish for a prosperous relationship." he says.

Dungeon Master S |

"No, I have things to do. Look. You deal with the king, I'm not helping!"
He's going to leave. If you want to stop him, it's going to reignite the fight... Which is fine. Either way :-)

![]() |

"Which way do we go?" asks Auri, reasonably enough.

![]() |

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
"The business elsewhere is simply a ruse... you just don't want to get involved. Why is that?"
August is willing to let him go, whether he answers or not. No need for further conflict here.

Dungeon Master S |

The kobolds all slouch a bit, The king is not ...forgiving. He would punish us VERY harshly. Maybe... just maybe...."
Whatever the kobold's thought, it goes unsaid, and he tries to leave. As a show of good faith he adds, "Beyond is theater, now throne room."
And they make a few more steps to leave.

![]() |

Auri shrugs. "Best head in the other direction then... plausible deniability and all.." she suggests.
Then, with the group gathered she quickly checks over everyone for wounds.
Prior to heading into the room she will take the time to cast a shield and enlarge person upon herself. Just in case things don't go well.

Dungeon Master S |

Anyone else doing anything before going through?

![]() |

Hun adds, in a more conciliatory tone, "Master Yippitok, who would be the next in line if your Father lost his crown? Would THAT pers... ah kobold be willing to work with us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

![]() |

Make sure my mage armor is up and everyone is fully healed. Otherwise, where are these kobolds going? I don't really want them to come back behind us?

Dungeon Master S |

The kobold bitterly answers, "Someone else" He then runs off into the sewers with his cronies in tow.
They seem to be heading back the way you came, but they seem to be headed back past where the otyughs were.

Auri ensures the door is closed and a table put in front of it before she pre-casts spells and heads into the kings presence.

Hun looks around the shop for anything of value before they leave...

Dungeon Master S |

Hey guys, back from OGC, but Gen Con is now 9 days out and crushing me. I'll be posting when I can, as I can. I realize I've been spotty a lot over the last month, which is out of character for me, but it's a perfect storm of stuff. I'll be back up to a normal rate after the Con though. Sorry about that.
I'll get a solid post up tonight.

![]() |

No worries here - happens to us all from time to time. Dupine isn't needed anywhere else anytime soon, so if you need to take a break for 2 weeks, it is ok for me.

![]() |

No issue at all... I am on vacay with the fam so a little break is cool!

![]() |

yeah, no worries here. I'm in too many games at the moment anyway, so having a couple running a bit slower is a godsend.

Dungeon Master S |

Awesome. This is one of the PbP I give the mot attention to, so rest assured. I fly home from Gen Con August 8th. The 8th is also my birthday, so I'll likely be out at a pub. After that it'll be normal. Meanwhile, I appreciate the understanding!

![]() |

Swamped at work this week and next anyway, so your timing is great. We'll still be here you when you return, if Hunwald hasn't stolen the silverware or the forum software.
