Dungeon Master S |
Jal puts the pieces into the door in the agreed upon order. As the last one slides into place the door erupts with a bolt of lightning that tears through both Jal and Yoon. Ref DC 20 for half of: Elec damage: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 3) = 9.
The pieces pop out and land on the floor with a clatter... The door is still closed.
Yet Another Pregen |
"Um, maybe the devil goes on the bottom?"
"You should all step back..." (She waits until they do.)
Yoon tries again, ('devil', 'child', 'city'), this time with the devil on the bottom, instead of the top.
Dungeon Master S |
Good thing Yoon sent the others away as another bolt erupts:
REF DC 20 or DMG: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 5) = 12
Yet Another Pregen |
Yoon hands her CLW wand to Kyra. "A little help here?"
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
-9-12+15 = -6

Dungeon Master S |
After Kyra heals the rather singed Yoon, the kineticist opens the door successfully. This time when she places the last stone the door slides open...
Lekku-PG |
"Why, uh... Why didn't we just ask the guy we tied up?"
Kyra dismisses her own question with a shrug, and draws her scimitar to be ready for whatever waits below.
Dungeon Master S |
Beyond is a much larger room. This room is split by a long, ten-foot-wide stone walkway, extending sixty feet east to west between two spiral staircases. Two ladders rest on the north side of the walkway and two more on the south, leading down into a fifteen-foot-wide trench twenty feet below. These sub-rooms are filled with objects ranging from decrepit suits of rusted armor, to piles of rotting furs, and to various over-stuffed footlockers.

Yet Another Pregen |
"He already said he didn't know how to open it, that's why." Yoon wipes away singe marks and double checks her eyebrows are still there.
"Besides, I got this." Her impish smile projects a casual child-like confidence.
On entering the room, she gasps. "Oooh, stuff!" She starts rifling through things with abandon, occasionally holding items up to Gom-Gom (her stuffed owlbear) for his approval.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Dungeon Master S |
Nothing jumps out at Yoon immediately (nasty or otherwise.)
Lekku-PG |
If we can take a moment...
Kyra pauses to heal Yoon (and Jal?) further, then bestows each ally with Sarenae’s guidance.
Wand of CLW (My wand)– Yoon: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wand of CLW – Yoon: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Wand of CLW – Jal, if needed: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Guidance all around!
"He already said he didn't know how to open it, that's why."
Ooooohh.... Didn't see that.
Also, Yoon – save your charges for now. I got this. 44/50 charges left.
Jal Vaduva |
Ouch … and ouch.
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Jal, still touching his fingertips together to try to get their sensation back, barks a laugh at Kyra's question. Then he nods at Yoon’s answer.
In the next room, Jal looks down at the two trenches full of … stuff. ”Oh goodie. Junk. And we’re looking for some old documents?” He stalks to the far end of the room, making sure no unexpected surprises await them. ”Maybe we’ll find something useful along the way.”
Move to the other end of the walkway, checking for ambushes, traps, or anything useful/threatening. (I updated his position, obviously move him back if he encounters something before he reaches that spot)
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Chris Marsh |
Nothing alerts Jal. The way forward is blocked by a portcullis. There are large levers in 3 of the corners below. (The fourth corner is stacked with rugs and hides.)
-Posted with Wayfinder
Chris Marsh |
Nothing odd about the lever, but no indication of what it does just by looking

Jal Vaduva |
Jal looks at the two doors, then at the levers, then back at Crowe.
”Hey, Big Guy! You and that big-ass hammer come make sure no one surprises us through this door while we search below.”
Assuming Crowe’s cool with that, Jal takes a moment to head back to the western door, using his thieve’s tools to jam the door mechanism to see if he can guarantee that their escape route stays open. Then he hops down into the remaining trench and begins searching.
Disable Device, to jam the western door open: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Perception, through the junk in the trenches: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Dungeon Master S |
After disbursing to cover the room, and as Jal begins to sift through the junk a pair of creatures appear out of thin air. Fiendish wings and whipping scorpion-like tails lash behind this diminutive, red-skinned creatures! Knowledge (Planes) to ID
The weave amongst themselves appearing just as they lash out with stingers on Clockwise: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Jal!
Stinger 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 DMG: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Stinger 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 MISS
One gets the slayer FORT: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25, but the Varisian is too hale for the venom...this time. Caught flat-footed, the imps then fly back to the center before he can swing.
Baddies: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Yoon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Jal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Kyra: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Crowe: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Dungeon Master S |
The imps double move to get super close to their next target, Crowe.
Good guys go!
Jal Vaduva |
Double move to climb quickly up the ladders and try to help Crowe.
Accelerated Climb: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 5 = 10
If that beats the (hopefully really low) DC to scale a ladder, Jal should be able to get a few squares of movement after getting to the top of the walkway. I’ve updated his position to reflect this. If the Climb check was a fail, just move him back (and commence the mockery for the grown man who can't climb ladders).
Jal jumps back startled. Then, as the tiny little creatures fly away, he rushes up the ladder in pursuit, drawing a long, curved Tian blade from his back as he goes.
”What are they? How do we kill’em?”
Dungeon Master S |
It's enough, you make it.
Crowe
Kyra
Yoon
Yet Another Pregen |
"Oh, I've found that pretty much everything burns."
Know(nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 (in the unlikely event that it helps identify)
Can Yoon see the imps from down where she is? I only see one on the map.
Yoon moves as best she can (single move, either right (preferred) or up the ladder), and shoots off a gout of flame.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Kinetic blast (flame) (RT): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
fire dmg: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7
Yoon's speed 20' (because child), blast range 30', subject to SR
Dungeon Master S |
For future reference, you can crit with your blast. Unfortunately, the beast is immune to fire.
Botting Crowe per his instructions
The big man growls, winding up with his massive hammer.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 THREAT
Confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 Regular: DMG: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14
The hammer connects solidly with the red imp! The beastie is resistant to such mortal weapons, but not immune.
Kyra is up.
Red: 9
Blue: 0
Lekku-PG |
"Not everything burns, it would seem..." Kyra mutters through gritted teeth, as she rushes to Crowe’s aid.
double move.
Dungeon Master S |
The imps take shots with their tails at Crowe before flying off (drawing from Crowe.)
Stinger 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 MISS
Stinger 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 DMG: 1d4 ⇒ 3 FORT: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
But they can't seem to get through his defense. As they make a line towards Yoon, Crowe swings:
AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 DMG: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 3) + 7 = 15. Crowe's swing knocks the red imp clear off the Prime Material plane!
Good guys up!
Dungeon Master S |
In my haste I made 2 mistakes. Crowe's AC is 18, so the second attack is a miss. And Yoon gets an AoO if she's armed.
Jal Vaduva |
As the remaining imp flutters down and out of reach once more, Jal scowls. ”Oh, those little …”
He steps to the edge of the walkway, switching his katana to his off-hand as he quirks his right wrist. A dagger falls into his waiting hand. He takes a moment to line up his shot and throws at the remaining imp … trying not to hit Yoon in the process.
”Hey, Pyro! You’re in the way! Can you get up here?”
5’ step. Switch katana hands, swift to quick-draw dagger from sheath, move to Study Target the thing, then throw (penalties for range and throwing into melee)
dagger, thrown: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 - 4 - 2 = 13
damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Dungeon Master S |
The kerfuffle is a little too chaotic and Jal's dagger is wide.
Kyra, Crowe, and Yoon (with an AoO from Yoon.)
Yet Another Pregen |
Didn't notice the '20'. Immune or just strongly resistant or SR? Yoon can handle the latter two, but not the first (yet).
I don't think of Yoon as armed, although she carries a club.
Yet Another Pregen |
A creature that strikes Yoon with a natural attack or unarmed strike takes 1 point of fire damage. (But, again, you said "immune".)
Yoon draws her club, and swings at the imp. Assuming *immune* is the answer above.
Melee club: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Dmg: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 Although I think it's unlikely she'll be able to pass their DR
She steps back after swinging.
5' step away
Jal Vaduva |
"And can you bring my dagger?"
Seriously, can Yoon make it up here? It would be ideal if we could all be together up on this walkway to limit the imp's ability to play flying cat-and-mouse with us.
Lekku-PG |
Kyra rushes down the stairs, slashing at the imp with her curved blade.
Looks like it's too far for me to make it... I'll delay, instead.
Dungeon Master S |
Immune to fire completely. Yoon does connect, but doesn't seem to injure the beast.
Kyra, you and Crowe are the end of the round, so you may just want to take your turn. One of you should bot Crowe.
Crowe, Rager of the Society |
This was a looong day.
Crowe strikes the little bugger with his earthbreaker.
+1 earthbreaker, power: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 for Blugeonning: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 1) + 13 = 15
Lekku-PG |
Eyes afire, Crowe rushes toward the fleeing imp, leaping down the treacherous decline. Saranae’s influence molds the world around him, guiding him to the floor with little strain. His mighty warbreaker rumbles the ground as he brings it hurtling toward the tiny skittering menace.
CROWE
Acro, to avoid lethal damage, Guidance: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
Fall damage, nonlethal: 1d6 ⇒ 1
+1 earthbreaker, power: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
for Blugeonning: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 1) + 13 = 19
Arrrgh! Crowe ninja's my post for... Crowe. Anyway, I moved him on the map, so he'll still need the acro to make it down, but I suppose you can use my roll for that, if you like.
Dungeon Master S |
DOH! The AC is 17, so Crowe's post is a miss. Kyra still needs to go as it's the imp's turn otherwise. I'll let Kyra keep the attack roll, so KYRA jumps down and hits. Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9.
Dungeon Master S |
The imp sees the enemies closing in, and know that flying away now is REALLY dangerous. His best bet is to try to turn the focus to a dead human.
He stings back at Kyra ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 but misses.
Imp: 7
Good guys up!
Dungeon Master S |
DM mistake. Crowe is actually flanking, which turns it into a hit, which in turn makes it a killing blow!
Out of initiative.
Jal Vaduva |
Jal scratches his head in stupification up on the walkway.
Finally, he shakes himself out of it, "But seriously, can someone bring up my dagger?"
Do we need to finish our search of this room? If so,
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
If not, Jal will go check the far door, listening at it, checking for traps, and bypassing any locks or traps while the team makes their way back up.
Perception (door): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Disale Device (if necessary): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Dungeon Master S |
You don't find anything suspicious, but you also don't find any way through. You do finish your search of the NW and find a 4th lever however.
Lekku-PG |
Anybody need heals?
Kyra checks everyone for serious wounds, and once again bestows Guidance on them all.
So.... levers?
Crowe, Rager of the Society |
Yay!
Crowe raises an eyebrow in reaction of the imp that took his time to die and sheaths his weapon.
Crowe, Rager of the Society |
"Maybe we have to trigger them all at once?" suggests Crowe, clearly not an expert of levers.
Well, I enjoy it a lot as well, Jal :D
