What town/city/location do we start at? is it a surface city or do we actually start somewhere in the underdark?
It's meant to be a surface city, really close to the entrance of the underdark. I'm considering it as something of a trade hub, since the gnomes have some cities in the underdark (and for the purposes of my campaign, the duergar still have a couple, too). But I'm flexible with it.
I got the Campaign set up (mostly) with some information in the Discussion Tab, so we can move things over to there while you guys figure out your characters!

Wow, I have to admit that after having had to disappear for so long I wasn't expecting people to still be around, no less everyone seeming to still be mostly active and chatting.
My world has finally settled enough that I can get back on the boards and have some confidence that I can be about without any random drops. It looks like you all have continued talking in the thread, so if we can get everyone together again I know I'd be honored to keep playing with you guys if you will have me back.
I'm going to start re-reading through things and get myself caught back up on where things stand and refresh myself on the parts of the adventure we were in, but at this point I'll be watching the boards and hopefully I'll start hearing from you guys and everyone is up for it. Would be great if we could kick things off again, you are an amazing group.
Mogwai |
Omg you're back! We have missed you so much. I hope things are going well! I can't speak for anyone else (yes I can, they're totally on board), but I'm definitely still up for playing more of this.
Aetherni |
Anyway, I'm feeling we will have good news on Drow's war... Let's see if Tarlane is alright...
Hey! You took longer than I expected! Welcome back!
Got a new job? Are you rich already? ^_^
Tarlane |
Unfortunately I'm feeling a whole lot more poor than I was a couple months ago rather than rich, but I believe that the Riftwardens have finally got enough of the breaks to the abyss under control that I can pretend to have some stability.
If three of you have already answered it looks like everyone isn't just here but is even actively paying attention to the thread. I'm still pretty amazed. I'll see if I can catch back up on my mental log of where we were and all that had happen and get a post up to establish things moving forward again soon(Maybe tonight, probably in the morning).

We've all been talking pretty heavily the last few days, actually. Everyone is still around.
KDinIN |
Man... good day to show back up! Tarlane! Excited to see you back man! I am glad to hear that stability (or some form there of) has returned to your world once more. My basketball season is finally over, and things are going to return to normal (hopefully). Which means, I am so up for getting this show back up on the road.
KDinIN |
Side note, just read the last page as a catch up to where we were at in this game... and I laughed when I read this:
Aetherni minds not the joke, but instead puts one knee on the ground and the elbow on the other one. Covering his eyes with his right hand, he starts a prayer, right there under the morning sun.
I laughed only because I got this image of grumpy Aetherni "Tebowing" for Tarlane lol.

Following after the infrequent footprints is tedious work, there is enough space between them that its easy to worry you may have lost the trail but it seems to continue almost straight up the slope.
Where the tracks head becomes quite apparent about half-way up the side of the mountain, a divot in the hill leaves just enough room for a rough landing without being easily detectable from the sides or above. Perhaps most shockingly is the tunnel that slopes down roughly into the side of the hill from this landing. Its obviously freshly carved, dirt and debris still litter the floor, not yet carried away by the trickle of water. The tunnel moves deep, beyond the range of the light or darkvision.
For clarification sake.... Does the freshly carved tunnel that slopes into the side of the hill, does it slop towards the mine, away from the mine?
Tarlane |
It travels towards the mine in a somewhat vague way. If it continues for a decent distance they would intersect, but the mine entrance is probably a mile ahead and half a mile to the west.

I was going to show off my paint skills to silence the laughter, but I don't think that would have worked.
Plus, it probably wouldn't have been very helpful since it just would have been a picture of a hill with an arrow pointing at the left side that says 'Mine' and one pointing at the bottom that says 'Tunnel'.

I love Mogwai! I laughed out loud so much when I read your response to the dwarf disappearing that my wife made me try and explain it... She didn't think it was funny, but I was rolling lol.
Tarlane |
Aetherni,
The tax collector's body was left with the sheriff and the mayor the first night you returned and met with them. He mayor said that they needed to report his loss to the capital city, so the body may have been sent there.
Also, as a warning for everyone, I am going to be slightly out of town this weekend. I'm leaving in the morning and will be back sunday night so you just probably won't see a post from me tomorrow.
Brutus Tarsi |
Public Service Announcement: I am travelling for the rest of this week. I should be able to check in and such, but it will be more sporadic than usual. No worries, just wanted to let you know. Also, Tarlane, if my absence is holding up the game, feel free to take me over. It shouldn't be an issue, but it is always possible lol.
Tarlane |
No problem at all Brutus, but I definitely appreciate the heads up.
With the dwarf having lost his real chance to prepare himself due to the fairyfire, and all of you right there and ready, I have a feeling this fight it going to be awfully short lived. Once we are back into more social interaction, there is much less chance of you needing to be a DM puppet for anything.
Tarlane |
I'm sorry guys, I was waiting for Vorik's post and then got hit by a flu out of nowhere that put me out of commission. I'm getting a real post up now as we speak.
And Aetherni, don't worry, you'll get your crazy dwarf spotlight back soon enough! The fact that he genuinely doesn't speak common so seems to ignore an awful lot of what is said probably doesn't help much in his perceived sanity.
Gavmania |
For what It's worth, I think it was a good move, even though it doesn't look like it'll work. If it looked like he was submitting, I'd help with your grapple (give you another +2), but I don't think he'll submit. He's tried everything he can, and we've overcome it, yet he still hasn't given up.
Aetherni |
I guess that is a no.... Would you at least update your own sections or a loot sheet if I make one?
Tarlane, I'm not sure how resistant you are to Google Drawings, but it turns out we can make quite an impressive map with it, check this out (but please don't mess it up, it is not mine). Do you want me to start it with what I did in the previous map?
Tarlane |
I have no problem at all with google drawings, I am already using google docs anyway for the battlemat and handouts. The primary reason I use the spreadsheet is ease of use and it already being a grid keeps things real smooth, plus I have no artistic talent(I have been practicing some with campaign cartographer to try and get you some real maps for areas in the future, but don't get your hopes up for pretty). Are you thinking it would be better for like overland maps, or for actual combat encounters?
For the loot sheet, would it be easier for you all if I made a document that everyone has access to in order to keep a general party gear page? It will be a good place to keep general stuff that is spread out among everyone, but I would normally say that if there is anything you are going to want to be able to access during combat you will need to pick who is holding it and have it on their sheet.
Aetherni |
I mean it both for combat and overland, Tarlane. There are invisible grids which you can put on the drawing to allow you a very good reference, and the tokens make it much easier for us to watch the map (although it is not necessary).
Regarding the overland, it is just possible to add features as the time passes, without needing to learn a whole new program, but do whatever you think is easier man, I was just suggesting it ^_^
Any loot-tracking system works for me.
Vorik Kessler |
Hey Tarlane, are you still intending us to go Mythic? If so, I was thinking my sword could be a legendary artifact, since it seems to fit. Would you be willing to work me to figure out its powers?
Also, I am hella exhausted right now and need to pass out. I am healing thankfully, but it still takes a lot out of me some days. I'll post later.
Mogwai |
I f$#+ing love Mogwai. He's one of my favourite characters to play. The duality of his nature is just endlessly fascinating to me. I'm so excited to see how everyone reacts when his goblin-side comes out more and more. So far he's been incredibly reasonable, and it should be a rather drastic change.
Tarlane |
Sorry Vorik, I do intend to have you all go Mythic. I haven't quite decided how I wanted to handle the weapons yet, but Legendary is definitely something I have been juggling. Each starborn has a personalized item as well as some that are more generalized things made for the group as a whole. The campaign has a system laid out for advancing the items as you level, made to be generic enough that it can be adapted to whatever gear I may have associated with each of your characters, which I could carry over into pathfinder fairly easily if I wished and at that point you will be able to have a lot of customization choices over how your items work.
We have a few levels before the adaptability is going to kick in, so I figure I have some time to firmly decide. If I am going to make use of the legendary weapon rules that will kick in once you gain your first mythic level.

Posting this to all my games:
Tomorrow, Feb 26th, I need followup surgery on my crushed toe, to deal with part of an exposed bone that is likely infected. This will probably cause me to loose about half my big toe, I think.
As I write this, I am about to go to sleep for a few hours, since I do not think I will be able to truly sleep through the night. I am kinda nervous, despite it being a relatively simple procedure.
I am unsure if I will be posting tomorrow after surgery, but I am hoping I'm fine. If I don't post you now know why.
Tarlane |
Take care of yourself and I wish you all the best with your surgery, hopefully everything goes as well as possible and you are feeling top of your game quickly.
Don't worry about rushing anything, look after your health and make sure you are feeling alright before you worry about us, we'll be alright here.

Re: Gameplay thread things. Mogwai and I aren't really expecting anyone to come after him, though obviously it would be pretty touching if someone did.
The idea of 'racial preference' is interesting. Mogwai fully expects you all to simply assist the humans on the ground that they are human - where as he has chosen to give aid to a people that are generally considered his race's sworn enemy, based on what their actions have been, rather than where they come from.
The attitude displayed by Davan is more on par with what Mogwai expects. If you don't come after him, he won't hold any grudges - but will merely chalk it up to something akin to ignorance.
In short, feel free to come after the goblin if you want to, but don't feel obligated to. He will be back to assist the humans either way - he just thinks that the hobgoblins are more deserving of his help at the moment.
