Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move diagonally?
Yes.
What does it cost to turn a settler into a settlement?
Nothing. You simply declare that the settler is settling. This may be done after moving the settler.
Can a newly created settlement do anything the turn it is created?
Yes! It acts just like any other settlement with a population of 1.
What is the distance to a tile adjacent to my settlement?
1, regardless whether the distance is vertical, horizontal or diagonal.
Can I inspire the same settlement or force multiple times in the same turn?
Yes, so long as you expend the requisite Power each time.
If a force fails to move, and I inspire it to move it again, can it attempt a new roll to enter the same tile?
Yes.
If I use the climate change miracle to make the world drier, do shallow seas become wetlands?
No. It only affects surface tiles.
When I buy an advancement, when do I gain the benefits?
You gain them immediately, although they are not retroactive. All your subsequent actions in the same turn benefit. If you increase your religion rank, you don't gain extra power this turn, as it only affects the roll made at the beginning of the turn.
So, about that last turn advantage modifier...
You won't have to worry about it until the game progresses to the point where going last gives you a big advantage. This will probably not be until turn 5 or so at earliest. Until then, no one gets any real benefits from going first/last! The GM will decide (and tell people in advance) exactly when this system is in place.
When do terrain bonuses come into play?
The turn after conquering/settling. Also, if there is no settlement in the tile, you do not gain a bonus. Bonuses are conditional upon settlement, not merely presence of a force in the tile.
Does survival affect science advancement difficulty?
Yes. Survival will reduce the cost of advancing science in a tile. As an exception to the general rule that no Power costing abilities can cost 0, if the square has no difficulty due to your survival stat, you will not have to pay anything to advance.
