I'm good for Tera to keep the wand; I'm not creative enough as a player to work well with illusions :P
Staring down the holy symbol, Zache makes the sign of the evil eye and shudders. "I'll take it," he mutters, snatching it hastily from Kaede's hand and wrapping it in a scarf, which he tucks into his shirt, unwilling to let it touch his skin. "As Desna fights against nightmares, so too shall I."
Letting a deep breath out in a rush, he smoothes his clothes again. "I can probably keep going," he affirms, eyes set hard with determination.

Kaelaah |

Kaelaah, still feeling admonished and slightly guilty that his actions had put the group in danger, mumbles something along the lines that he sees no great benefit in resting, "...better to strike now whilst the goblins are in disarray".
I took a few hits that time but, like Salomae, I have few daily resources that are exhausted... I vote for pushing onwards and clearing the goblin's nest before they regroup.

DM Nate |

Alright... it sounds like the consensus is to keep going? And, that Tera has picked up the coins and the wand, Zache is carrying the holy symbol, and Kaede the potion... is anyone going to carry the magic sword and/or crown-helmet? Sal and Kaede are both proficient with shortswords, if either of you want to carry it just in case you encounter something with DR/magic?
Regrouping and taking the long way back to the foyer, to make sure the injured goblin isn’t hiding behind them, the godmarked find that the door to the courtyard has been left standing open. The open door on the far side, through which they had spotted the other goblin earlier, is now closed. After a quick check, Sal finds a subtle blood trail leading across the entryway, through the courtyard, and into the now closed room...
Feel free to position yourselves in the entryway or courtyard as you see fit (just give me a square in your next post and I’ll move you). What’s the plan?

Salomae Amsel |
Sal will carry the shortsword (unless Kaede wants it) and the crown-thingy!
_______
"Well, at least we know where he went," Sal comments, pointing out the blood trail leading from the entryway across the courtyard and up to the closed door. "Normally I'd vote for doing something a little more subtle but in this case it might be just as easy to try forcing the door."

Tera Flinders |

"I don't know if we can abandon stealth just yet. We don't exactly have a heavy punch," Tera replies. After a moment she shrugs and turns back to Sal.
"Wanna just see if the door's locked first?"
If not, then ignore this part.
Tera stalks across the courtyard with her hood down and her face covered by the scarf she'd borrowed from Zache. Once across, she checks both doors, and if she hears nothing, sneaks a peek inside.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

DM Nate |

oh, only a 29 perception? (it's a good thing for these goblins that you don't attack like you scout, Tera, lol)
Tera hears nothing behind the door to the right and a quick check reveals a meandering hallway beyond it with two doors branching off and another staircase down at its end (see crude map for details).
Behind the left door she hears rapid, nervous breathing somewhere nearby, and farther away a scraping sound like someone, or something, spinning the tip of something metal against a stone...

Tera Flinders |

Is there a crack under the door? I'm wondering if she can cast Burning hands and have the cone go underneath the door.

DM Nate |

No. Except in very rare cases, closed doors block line of effect. Also, I forgot to say: the door opens inward and has no sign of a locking mechanism (though if there's a bar across it on the inside you'd have no way to see that).

Tera Flinders |

Darn, so much for that plan.
Tera returns to the others and relays what she's found.
"Fortunately, I have a plan," she says before holding out the Pumpkin King's crown to Kaelaah.

Kaede Mayumi |

Kaede looks at Tera, then the crown, then Kaelaah, and just starts laughing.

DM Nate |

I'm assuming that by "Pumpkin King's crown" you mean the jack-o-lantern?

Kaelaah |

A quizzical look on his face, Kaelaah takes the crown from Sister Flinders... his eyebrow raised, he wonders what Tera's plan actually is - before a smirk, growing to a broad smile as Sister Mayumi laughs along...

Zache Kovachi |

Slowly raising first one eyebrow, then the other, Zache slowly shakes his head incredulously. "I hope you know what you're doing!"

Kaede Mayumi |

Kaede stops chuckling after a couple moments. "I'm sure that Kaelaah going all fire and pumpkin seed will at least pause the goblins long enough for us to get the drop on them," she says, hoping that this actually works. "Besides, it sounds like there's not much else up top here."

Tera Flinders |

Yup, the jack-o-latern. Also love how everyone seems to know the gist fo teh plan already.
"Oh I do! So, I think you all know what the basics are. Kaelaah plays the part of the Pumpkin King. If we can, I'd love to fill the courtyard with smoke or fog. So, if we can, we do that, then I make myself invisible and open door, then Kaelaah scars them silly and starts the fire party before we follow in and make sure he doesn't get hurt."

DM Nate |

since it’s just for theatrical effect, i’d say that prestidigitation would cover the smoke. So, Tera’s going to smoke up the courtyard, use vanish, and open the door... Opening the door will start combat... I’m assuming some or all of you want to declare readied actions to make ranged attacks or enter the room before combat starts in earnest? If so, speak now or forever hold your peace. Also, if you want to use any buffs before the fight starts now’s the time.

Tera Flinders |

Yep, that's pretty much the plan. I was hoping to have the fog be thick and billowing so that all they see is a dark figure, just before Kaelaah lights up the mouth and eyes of the jack-o-lantern.
As everyone gets ready and Tera fills the courtyard with low-hanging, billowing fog, she pulls Kaelaah aside.
"Kaelaah, when the door opens, say this as you set the eyes and mouth alight, <goblin> The Pumpkin King will devour your souls!</goblin> Got it?"

Kaelaah |

Kaelaah, squeezing the pumpkin into place over his long scarlet hair, tries to stop himself from giggling too much... already, he is tossing orbs of fire between his hands - a juggling display that he proposes to turn from fun to fear the moment that the door is opened.

Tera Flinders |

Once everything is in place and everyone is ready, Tera turns invisible and the door begins to open.

DM Nate |

I’ll give everyone 24hrs to post pre-combat buffs and readied actions, from the time i originally asked for them... that’s about 16 hours from now! Also, if you’re readying an attack go ahead and roll attack/damage when you post.
Tera: opening door
Kaelaah: are you attacking or making an intimidate check? (with all the theatrics you can effect both with one check, if choose intimidate)
edit: remember- readied attacks have to have a specific target, like ‘first enemy I see’ or ‘the goblin that fled earlier’ or ‘most threatening thing i see’

Kaelaah |

Rolling some checks for when the door opens... not sure what is beyond so will leave the RP for some hasty retcon as required.
Kaelaah, Kinetic Blast vs Goblin (Touch): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
Kaelaah, Intimidate Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

As the door creaks open and Kaelaah steps through, Zache, back to the wall, begins a chant, his voice low and raspy, a chilling mockery of the songs from the goblin raid.
"Pumpkin king with eyes that burn,
Fear the pumpkin king's return!
Pumpkin king with pumpkin head,
He be angry! Make you dead!"
Readied action to use that as the start of inspire courage!

Tera Flinders |

Probably should roll stealth
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Well, it could have gone worse! :P

Kaede Mayumi |

Kaede slips to the side of the courtyard, taking cover along the side wall. With a brief prayer, she gently places her hand on the blade of her glaive, leaving a white glow on it before dropping into a ready position.
Holy strike blessing on my glaive
Readied attack on the first enemy that reaches melee with Kaelaah. I'm assuming that Zache will start singing before I strike.
Glaive attack(IC): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 = 21For(HS,IC): 1d10 + 3 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + (5) + 1 = 19

Salomae Amsel |
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Sal creeps into the courtyard as well and takes up position some feet back but close enough to see to cover Kaelaah once the smoke clears and the fun begins. Deciding to let Kaede and Kaelaah handle things up close, she draws her longbow and waits...
Sal will fire on the first goblin or hostile that comes within view. Subtract as necessary due to firing into melee and/or cover!
Attack vs. ??? (Longbow; IC): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Tera Flinders |

Tera tenses as she starts to pull open the door.
Keeper of the Vault, I hope this works!

As smoke billows through the courtyard time seems to slow to a crawl... the anticipation quickly dissipates as an invisible Tera swings open the door and steps into the room to clear the way for her companions.
Waiting at the far wall is a giant of a goblin--nearly the size of a dwarf--with a humped back and a lazy eye. Sal's arrow whizzes into the room and sinks into its shoulder a split second before Kaelaah steps through the door. The goblins eyebrows go up and its face twists in confusion as the 'pumpkin king' appears and blasts him in the chest with a gout of flame.
The missing goblin soldier suddenly appears from the shadows next to the door (with its own readied action) to slash at the pumpkin king...
attack v FF: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7, for: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
the sneak attack does not last long though as Kaede cuts down the soldier with her glaive before he's even recovered from his swing.
In the moment they have to take in the room, the godmarked see what appears to have been some sort of kennel: a twenty by twenty-five foot chamber with the remnant of stall walls protruding from the western wall and old leashes, bridles, and muzzles strewn about. The reason the goblin-dogs were forced out is obvious; near the center of the room a tanned and weathered, raven-haired boy of perhaps 13 or 14 years lies unconscious on sturdy wooden table. His feet are pinned in stocks, as are his neck and right arm. His shirtless torso is badly bruised and his ribs are visible under his skin, a sign of some combination of hunger and thirst. The thing which most stands out about the boy, however, is on the back of his left hand, which is tied to the edge of the table sticking out from his body... a birthmark in the shape of a leaf... the very same shape as the mark Brother Roakkad carried...
Before anyone has time to process this revelation the hulking goblin charges forward and brings down his two-handed sword on Kaelaah.
charge (normal AC): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24
for: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Everyone may act now. The map should be up to date.

Kaelaah |

Feeling an indignant rage well up inside him, Kaelaah shapes a blade... an oversized dogslicer... and swings it at the large goblin, "Fear Me!!! Fear the King of Pumpkins!!!"
Kaelaah, Kinetic Blade vs Goblin (Touch): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9
Kaelaah, Intimidate Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Tera Flinders |

Tera uses the last few seconds of her invisibility to skirt around the table to take the burly goblin by surprise. She draws the iron wand and feels the tingle of the spell it holds in her fingertips.
With the goblin's attention firmly on Kaelaah, Tera almost feels sorry for the stupid beast.
Almost.
She snarls the command word, completing the spell, and jabs the goblin in a kidney. The sizzle of burning goblin and the smell of lightning fills the repurposed kennel.
<goblin>"FOOL! You dare defy the Pumpkin King!"</goblin> Tera's anger is not at all feigned as she readies herself for another strike.
Stealth(Moving more than 1/2 speed, but less than full, Invisible): 1d20 + 9 - 5 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 5 + 20 = 29
Touch Attack(Flanking, Inspire Courage) vs. the Goblin: 1d20 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 2 + 1 = 24
Confirm?: 1d20 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 2 + 1 = 23
Add +3 to both if goblin is wearing or carrying a metal object. Not that I think Tera needs it. Yikes.
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

Salomae Amsel |
Though shocked by the discovery of the boy prisoner, Sal doesn't have time to dwell on it as the oversized goblin charges forward and buries his sword in Kaelaah's shoulder. Raising her bow she watches the goblin's movements, knowing that her timing needs to be perfect...and then seeing an opening, she releases her arrow!
Attack vs. Big Goblin (Longbow; IC, Studied Target, Into Melee): 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7

DM Nate |

Stunned by what lies on the table before them, Zache and Kaede don't regain their wits as quickly as they might normally (and hold their actions).
The brutish goblin grimaces as Kaelaah's fire-sabre scorches its chest again and Tera's jolt surprises it. Sal's arrow, careful placed between Kaelaah's torso and arm, flies wide of the sentry as it raises up its sword and swings it at the Shoanti again...
Barrk v. Kaelaah: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11, for: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Everyone may act again. Tera- the goblin is not wearing metal armor, but its metal sword probably counts.

Tera Flinders |

Shocking Grasp (Touch, Flank, IC) vs. Barrk: 1d20 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 + 1 = 6
Okay, if you miss with a wand, can you still hold a touch spell?
Tera goes to stab Barrk again with her wand, but has to duck Sal's incoming arrow as it streaks past the goblin's head. She let's out an undignified squeak at the close call.

Kaede Mayumi |

Kaede slides into the doorway, glaive extended. After a second of studying the postion of the remaining problem, she cries out, "Kaelaah! Go right!," and hunkers down, waiting to spring into an attack as soon as the path clears.
5-foot into the doorway
Readied action for when Kaelaah moves out of my attack path.
Glaive attack(IC): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23 for(HS,IC): 1d10 + 3 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (3) + 1 = 8

DM Nate |

You can actually attack through/around an ally with a reach weapon. Also, Tera is currently threatening (thanks to her held charge) so you and Kaelaah get +2 to hit from the flank (not that you needed it).

Kaede Mayumi |

I know you can, but they provide soft cover, so I rather ready for the better shot.

DM Nate |

wow- I’ve been doing that wrong for about 3 years in the other game that a few of us share... sorry, Zed! Teldon may have to adjust his tactics a bit... And thanks for pointing that out, Kaede.
Sal’s arrow finds it mark this time, barely, and slides between two of the brute’s ribs. As Kaelaah steps to the side and manifests his flame-sabre, Kaede’s glaive opens up the large goblin and crumples it to the ground before the Shoanti can even make his attack.
Combat over. Tera- are you going to discharge shocking grasp or continue holding the charge? (If you hold it you can’t touch anything at all without zapping it.)

Tera Flinders |

Tera jabs the wand into the neck of the downed goblin, making sure that it won't be getting up again before turning her attention to the injured boy. She mutters a prayer to the Keeper of the First Vault. Her hands glow gold for a moment as she tries to mend some of his wounds.
Cure Light Wounds on Mysterious Boy #1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
She then turns to Kaelaah and gives him a sheepish, worried look.
"I'm sorry Kaelaah. I was hoping that we'd be able to take care of them quickly enough to avoid getting hurt," she says as she pulls out the other wand and begins to heal the fiery shoanti's injuries.
CLW Wand on Kaelaah: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW Wand on Kaelaah: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Looking to the others, then to the boy, she asks, "What should we do with him? I mean after we get him free."
Tera moves to begin undoing the bonds that hold the poor boy to the torture table and then struggles to get him off without hurting him.

Salomae Amsel |
Sal quickly jogs forward to stand in the doorway, looking on with concern as Tera sees to the injured boy. "I don't know, we can't take him with us but it may not be safe to just leave him hidden up here either," she responds, keeping one eye on the boy and the other on the other door.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

DM Nate |

As a general rule if you guys interact with something that could/should allow a skill check and you don't roll it yourself I'll treat it as taking 10 (if the situation allows you to do that). That'll be faster than me asking for a skill check and everyone waiting potentially a day or so for the roll.
The boy winces and groans as Tera lowers him to the ground... his breathing quickens a little as he struggles to open his eyes...

Tera Flinders |

Tera grabs her waterskin and pulls the stopper before lifting the boy's head up and gently getting him to drink. Once he's awake, she puts some bread and dried meat from her provisions in his hands.
"Eat that and then drink some more water. Trust me, you'll feel better," she tells him gently.

Marcus Wovenbow |

Marcus rubs his eyes when his hands are freed. Looking around cautiously at the strangers and the food, and then to the fallen goblin, he seems not to process too much. Nearly missing his mouth, he takes a bit of the bread, then drinks deep from the skin, spilling much of it.
Still trying to take in the scene, he mixes common and goblin, saying "Where is she?" before looking down at the wounds on his chest and legs.

Tera Flinders |

"Can you tell us what she looks like," Tera asks as she takes note of his injuries and sighs. He was hardly in any shape to be alone or come with them. She pulls out the wand she'd asked for from Brother Faustwick and begins mending his wounds.
CLW Wand on Marcus: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW Wand on Marcus: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

CLW Wand on Marcus: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW Wand on Marcus: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Salomae Amsel |
Sal's eyebrow shoots up as the boy jumbles his words together; though she wasn't entirely sure it sounded like Goblin or something similar mixed in with Common.
She carefully steps forward and helps hold the waterskin so the boy has an easier time of getting a drink. "Slow down or you'll make yourself sick," she warns. "Just take a few sips. It's okay, I think we've killed all or most of the goblins that were running around."

DM Nate |

The boy's bruises fade away and his breathing becomes far less labored as Tera pumps healing energy into him. Unfortunately it seemingly does little to restore his energy.

Marcus Wovenbow |

Still looking around, as if seeing the surroundings for the first time, Marcus answers "That woman who lives here and hates me......" he finishes, taking more labored breaths.
As to what she looks like, he looks haunted when he says "Her arm.....worse than my leg...."
Snapping back to the present, he continues "My name is Marcus. I was captured by these goblins when I brought my skiff too close to shore. They brought me here...to where She was. I'm not sure how long ago that was.....too long"
