I've added a link to a map for the game. It shows a map of the city with the locations of the murders and the shrine, and a map of the shrine when you get there.

![]() |

No worries, hope you feel better!

![]() |

I've come down with a throat infection, so I'll likely be slower in my updates. Apologies!
You must have a talented Adam's apple. ;)
Get well soon! {Channels healing vibes}

I case its not clear, I need to know the vision penalties from the fog before acting. And I plan to enlarge so need some room before doing that. thus I am waiting for Thrugg to move up or step back.

![]() |

The vapor obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature 5 feet away has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker cannot use sight to locate the target).
I.e. when you are big you will not be able to see past your own extended elbow.

![]() |

I know how the mist works, but the GM indicated it was clearing as I could see the creature at 10' distance. Maybe the wings are responsible. I am not sure. That is why I am asking. Miss chances seem not to be being rolled either. Perhaps this is the round the mist clears?

![]() |

Metawise: Back a ways the GM said somewhere that it had a duration of 5 minutes (50 rounds minus what we've spent since so far). Still beating wings might allow for sight-based targeting (though there might still be a miss chance).

![]() |

I answered this in the gameplay thread, but just to summarize: I messed up on forgetting the miss chances, but I wanted to let more than just Kelumur be able to see her approach for cinematic flavor reasons. So the mist was pushed away a bit by her wings and the sword but will be coming back after 1 round. All of you get to ignore miss chances for 1 round -- make it count!

GM Paladin,
I understand completely. That is so easy to do. I am on board and have no issue with your calls. I was only being insistent because this combat seems quite serious and it really mattered to me if I could see the enemy from 10' away as when enlarged I have reach. With the fog in place I think I did the only thing I could really do and step up adjacent to the enemy while not hogging the entire space from being enlarged.

![]() |

You could see her this turn. Next turn you would not be able to. You still did plenty of damage.

![]() |

Tarragon, do you have protection from evil up? It shows in your profile stat block, but not in your status line, and I don't find anywhere in your post history where you cast it.

![]() |

No he does not. Sorry about it showing in the profile. Somehow it keeps showing up in my my herolab generated characters. I'll fix it.
It is NOT checked as a spell on in the program. It even shows up on new first level characters.
He does know the spell but cast Shield instead when he had a spare moment. I felt like cast Prot. Evil was metagaming too much at least at the time.

Rules question: If Terragon 5' steps to where the cold iron great sword lays and picks it up would that provoke an attack of opportunity from the demon? Note that I think he has both concealment from the mist and cover from the corner, but I cannot find any rule that says you do not get an AOO from either condition. Yet I thought I recalled that such a rule existed. Perhaps I am remembering 3.5?

![]() |

Cover prevents attacks of opportunity. Says so in the Combat chapter, in the section about cover. This includes soft cover from other characters, which is something that a lot of people forget.

![]() |

Not that it would matter for this situation, since Tarragon rolled low, but if your speed is reduced due to armor or encumbrance, you can't do acrobatics to avoid an attack of opportunity.

You learn something new everyday.

![]() |

Right. I did not know that. Armor check penalty is included, hence my low score of +1, but I thought I could at least roll. Something new.

![]() |

My typical practice when it comes to reroll is to invalidate the damage roll and reroll everything.. on the basis that the damage roll should not influence the reroll (I.e. don't reroll just because I saw a high damage roll)... And I treat it the same for games I GM if damage roll was rolled before attack reroll
My decision for reroll this time was purely on the basis of having 4hp left! But anyway that's my thoughts, as this is your game, I will accept your ruling should you choose to enforce the lower dmg roll :)

![]() |

It's fine, I just try to keep it how it would be at a table. If I roll my attack and damage together, and decide to reroll the attack, I wouldn't reroll the damage dice because you are only supposed to reroll the d20. But it's fine here. This is a tough opponent and trying to get every advantage possible is reasonable. Could have been worse -- she could have succeeded on her attempt to summon a Babau.

Any ideas how to pull this off? I am pretty sure that this demon can cast Vampiric Touch at will and if its a 12th level caster (6 dice of drain) that alone might cause a TPK. We cannot run as it can teleport at will too. Seems like the two PCs that are hurting it will be down in a round each...

![]() |

I realized I hadn't given you all a picture of the foe you're facing. Even though she's about to die, I've added a picture of Avalexi to the slides.

![]() |

It appears I never gave you my info. Here it is.
Player Name: Zach D
Character name: Thrugg
Character number: 133462-11
Faction: Grand Lodge
Day job (roll if you want to):profession soldier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

![]() |

Player Great Green God
Character Lauranna Cindel
PFS # 139009-57
Faction Silver Crusade
Day Job N/A

![]() |

First, Thanks for running GM Paladin. And thanks for not killing us. What if that succubus never used that flame scimitar at all and only cast her caster level 12 Vampiric Touch instead. 6d6 every round and she taps the concentration roll to do it in combat. Yikes. Still yikes without the crit she got on Tarragon. That is pretty frightening at level 5.
Good to play with the other players and "intereasting" to play with the over the top Lauranna.
I would be happy to RP choosing an item in the game thread but need the chronicle to be able to do so...

![]() |

The tactics specify only using Vampiric touch when she's below 40 HP, so that was how it was. It wasn't optimal tactics, true, but it could have been worse too.
I have the following chronicles ready:
Ravenor and Cott, I don't see your character info in this thread, so I'll need those to make your chronicles.
You'll need to pick one item from the list on the right and cross the others off, but I'll trust you guys to do that.

![]() |

Since we slayed avelexi, I think the top boon/bane gets crossed off too.
And thanks for running.

![]() |

What Thrugg said in both instances. Unless....
Only one prestige? Did we miss something or was 1 all that was available?
It is a relatively short scenario, basically a step above a single quest scenario. All the free Game Day scenarios are worth 1 prestige if I remember rightly.

![]() |

Right, I forgot to cross that one off. I'll fix it.
Free RPG day modules mostly only give 1 PP and fame.
If you want to pick an item now, I'll add lines to cross off the other items now. Tarragon's is updated.
