I feel like we've had some miscommunication in the adventure recently and share some of Baltazar's frustration.

Let me try and explain DaWay:

In this post I feel like Baltazar was trying to have a conversation with the woman, and included several possible follow up questions (to help keep the game from getting bogged down) and you responded with this, misreading Baltazar's post as a flurry of questions instead of an attempt at conversation.

Thanks for explaining that where I would not have been so diplomatic, Benevolence.

That indeed waas a miscommunication. I did mistake it as a flurry of questions. Anyways, too little too late combat has started.

I hope you weren't too disgruntled at the way my character disagreed with your methods Baltazar.

I was merely attempting to post what he would do.

Andoran freedom fighting and what-not.

I'm andoran same as you Korlungr, and we agree to disagree all the time. Don't worry about it, Baltazar is not the talkative kind, and since his conversation didn't work he got frustrated and will probably shut up for a long time, again.

Anyway those who command skeletons are against us.

Hey everyone! How are you doing?

Since this is the discussion, recently I got someone's advice and so I'd like to say a few words about this module advancement.

So, that's basically my opinion, and would specially like to have DaWay's point of view about it, since he's the one who's responsible for the game.

Well, first of all, comes the map. This is not world of darkness and flanking/cover/threatened spaces do matter, even if they would actually be a penalty to me (as now I can move and flank and attack however I want by just saying it. So I miss very much having a map, if I can help you with that please just say it and I'll provide it.

Second, I do believe Roleplaying is part of every campaign and me and the other players are strongly wanting that. We can interact with each other for a LONG time, but we need descriptions and a heavy participation of the NPCs, at least answering our questions, but some NPC behavior info is also important if you want us to stop questioning the being. Something like "You all realize she's not the talkative kind and is taking side looks at you while she's cooking, probably starting to realize you are not really raiders..."

I think those two points resume what's going on, so I wait for comments about them.

Lantern Lodge

I will interact more as the NPCs if that is what you wish however act like it don't some up your follow up questions in the same post as the original or that is how I will take it.

I told all of you that I do not do maps that often because I get frustrated with the software and creation process. This was stated in the recruitment thread and you agreed to it when you signed up. I will send people a google link if they would like to make an interactive map of their own.

Currently you are upstairs though the exact same layout as the hexagonal room to the south

Is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed when people try to get around using Charisma as their dump stat by playing up the roleplaying aspect of things? It's not just this game, but it's a pattern I've seen several times.

Specifically, people will write out lengthy, descriptive posts (which is perfectly fine), then won't even roll for the skill (because they know that if it came down to it, they'd likely fail the roll). I'm all for roleplaying, but there's a reason that we use dice in this game. If you want to go around being intimidating, then don't dump Charisma, or spend a feat on Intimidating Prowess to make up for it.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything (not maliciously, anyway), just trying to determine whether my opinion is totally unreasonable.

Yeah, I second you on that one, I've seen it many times, specially in pbp where you can preview the result of your roll. But I believe it always depends on the NPC behavior towards you, and a very few GM actually tell you that (anyhow). If, for example, someone is friendly or indiferent toward you a simple information should not be subject to a roll, but while the NPC is in that attitude category you should not get it the info, no matter how much you've spoken.

Diplomacy rolls CAN and SHOULD be used to improve the attitude of someone toward the pcs once you realize it does not want to help you anyhow, and the DCs are pretty decent.
Otherwise you may write lengthy posts, very well described and argued, but the NPC thinks "you're too arrogant" and just don't want to help you...

A hard point to master, it is...
Of course, on RP heavy games that's possible...

If I annoy you guys, I apologize. I don't mind failing a roll cause I dump the stat, it's just that I dont know if I should roll a dice everytime I say something, should I be doing that all the time or mainly depends on the GM? I know that if I'm asking an npc to do something then I have to roll.

That's exactly what I'm saying, the gm should tell you if you need to roll it, or even do it for you to speed up in pbp. We just have no way to know if the NPC is friendly or hostile towards us.
And I believe Boram was not talking about you anyway.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed when people criticize other players, hint that they're cheating, and downplay roleplaying instead of rollplaying? Not just in this game, but it would be great if people had some stones. Not trying to be a jerk or anything (not maliciously, anyway), just trying to determine whether my opinion is totally unreasonable.

What's the problem, guys? I asked you all to participate in the Intimidate roll via Aid Another. Maybe you guys could... I don't know, roleplay a bit and maybe the GM would see fit to award a roleplay bonus of +1 or something? If not, fine, I make the roll without Aid's or any bonus.

First, I'm sorry that my question offended you. I had an opinion, and I wanted to see if it was reasonable or not. I am not interested in a flame war, nor, considering your response, even in continuing the conversation on this board (though if you'd like to continue in PMs, that's fine).

However, I would like to explain myself in case I offended anyone else.

If you care to read it...:
When I think of roleplay, I think that entails playing to your character's stats, though not necessarily in the stereotypical way. If you're unsure what that means, look at the game benefits associated with a particular stat. That can give you a hint as to how to roleplay that stat.

For example, a low Int doesn't mean you're stupid (though you might be), it might just mean that you're ignorant, or it takes you longer to learn things (low Knowledge skills, fewer skill points). A low Wis doesn't necessarily mean you have no common sense (though you might not), it means that you're going to be gullible, or easily swayed by others (low Sense Motive, low Will save). A low Cha doesn't mean you're ugly (though you might be), it means that you have no force of personality (low Diplomacy, Intimidate, Bluff, etc.).

I submit that when a player wants their low-Charisma character to use a Charisma-based skill successfully, they stop roleplaying that character. Instead, they roleplay a high-Charisma character - one that is very forceful, outgoing, and capable of bluffing, intimidating, etc.

If the player does a convincing enough scene, then the GM might be tempted to forego the die roll altogether, which completely negates the problems associated with dumping Charisma. This means there's no downside to doing so, which I see as a problem.

On the flip side, if the player paints an elaborate picture and the GM requires a roll and it fails, then you have this amazing setup and that leaves the GM trying to figure out how to have the target ignore it, making things harder on the GM.

Both of these situations frustrate me, thus my note.

Anyway, that's my spiel. Again, sorry to have offended. Comments, please PM me.

I feel as if this bickering has caused a bit of a rift. We had a player drop because of it. If there were something wrong I would say it. When I have the time, I usually preview the roll and then craft the RP around it. This being said I could be more proactive as a GM but my life has taken a hard turn as my wife is unable to find work and I find my self supporting everyone in the household. It grates on me when I spend so much time to supporting my family. I do this for fun, and originally the load was managable it is not right now. I am doing my best to keep the game going as we are halfway through.. Now let's try and be respectful to others and if there is something that I feel is wrong I will step in, however don't try and take it upon yourself to enforce an unwritten rule. Low Charisma can be equally well roll played as high charisma.
