Baltazar was a shy person since his birth. They say that he did not cry on birth, but instead hid his face with his hands. Of course, that's just rumors. And besides, that was a long time ago. We're in Magnimar, city of Wonders, where legacies of previous generations can be found everywhere. Varisia is a particularly good place to live, and for that reason Baltazar spent most of his life there.
He started to work very soon for his race's standard, and with that upgraded his obsession with keys, doors and the like. As an apprentice for a Keymaker he learned his profession, and still keeps the ability sharp.
But he got in trouble a couple of times, opening locks he should not. But that didn't put him in many troubles, except two times. The first time he was already renowned for his ability, and he got followed by two bandits. Once he opened a masterwork lock of a rich house and left, the bandits got in and were about to leave with a twin babies, that would be kidnapped and used to blackmail the family. Fortunately Baltazar was no fool. He was pretty aware he was being followed, and waited until the kidnappers got distracted to attack. It was pretty simple for him. With his low stature he just had to aim a dagger or a sword and put it in a critical spot. Needless to say, Baltazar killed them both, and soon after police showed up. He did not confess he had opened the lock, but it seems the sheriff realized it anyway, keeping it a secret. That was the first. The sheriff asked him to promise him he would not open random locks anymore, but instead Baltazar told him he could not promise something he would never be able to control, but he would try his best.
The second time a huge vault got robbed, and there were witness swearing that they saw Baltazar at the scene. He did not do it, but that brought him a big problem. He had to escape jail and wander through the crime world to find out who really did it, but eventually he manage to capture the other halfling.
The ones who acused him covered him with apologies and wealth, but he did not accept it. Gold would not restore his reputation, but they could. He told them that if they want to fix what they did wrong they could as well tell his story to everyone they knew, and thus he became a little famous in the capital.
But these two events awakened in him a thirst for adventure, and he got in contact with the Pathfinder Society, by a recently open Lodge in the city.
He applied for the Andoran Faction, and did not regret it. From that time until now he has made small missions on behalf of the faction, and that has kept his eagerness satisfied. And he can eventually pick a lock in the dungeons he visit, so yeah, life's going fine!
