The lever pulls down and the mechanism immiedietly begins whirring and you notice the chains going through the ceiling ridge starts moving. You hear a great grinding sound from elsewhere in the dungeon.
Also, the little spark sitting up on the chain seems to vibrate with anger, if you could imagine it can do that, and sends a tendril of electricity through the lever and into the paladin!
1d3 ⇒ 3 electricity damage!
The creature then leaps off the chain to confront the party!

I seem to recall you play that the side with highest Initiative goes first, so here I go!!!
"Lightning eeh? Thats nice. Here, have some ACID BACK!!!" Milo said, the last words loud and borderline maniacal. He waved his arms about seemingly at random, his eyes following his hands intently. Then suddenly, a streak of acid cascaded from the pinkie on his left hand. With eyes widening and a triumphant "Ahaaa!" He flicked his hand towards the creature, a thick oily blob of acid flying towards it.
Acid Splash Touch Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
Acid Splash Damage: 1d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3

Galen, shaking off the tingling pain in his arms, draws his blade and swings at the electrical spark.
[dice=Galen Longsword]1d20+5
[dice=Dmg]1d28+2
Don't forget to add 1 to your attack and damage rolls for the inspire courage. Although if your rolling a d28 for damage you probably don't need it. What ind of sword is that anyway? ;-)
DajellyMan |
Yes, wow sorry I didn't reply to you Milo, that is how we do init
Round 1
Dylan - sings an inspiring song about overcoming achy bones and weary limbs to defeat strange lightning critters. It is very moving and pertinent.
Milo - shakes his stuff and lobs a ball of acid at the sparky little guy, nailing him in the... head? and dealing 3 points of acid damage.
Galen - Slams his greatsword into the very core of the lightning creature, rupturing whatever it is in there that was important, shatters whatever hope the little guy had for being alive any longer.
Barz- blinks twice.

Alright, you have knocked the little bugger unconscious/dead. Everyone gets 100xp!
Milo Quinn |
Awh yis!!
Shaking his hand, a thin stream of acid seemingly continuing to stream from his finger, Milo patted Galen on the knee. "Good showing there Mr. Big and Strong! But did you see how I got him? Right in the head or whatever." He looked down at his finger, his handshaking having no effect on the apparent malfunction. "I think thats supposed to happen...happens more times than it doesnt, so that must be it right?" He looked around for agreement but got nothing but odd looks. "Exactly! You guys get it. Dont worry, its gonna stop aaaannnyy moment now." He looked at the finger accusingly, squinting hard in concentration. Then, after a moment, the acidic drip stopped. Tiny chest swelling with pride, he smiled triumphantly.
"So...!" he said, slapping his hands together and rubbing them. "...What now?"

There does not appear to be any exit from this chamber other than the way you came.
(I wish I had a dungeon map for you, but alas, the interwebs don't have a picture and I haven't taken the time to draw one yet.)
Back in the cell block, you remember that before the secret door the hallway curved out to the northwest, which seems to be the way the chains from this mechanism lead (you all notice the chains lead to the ceiling and into a ridge that looks identical to the one you saw in the cell block.)
Milo Quinn |
Well, Barz can use the healing on himself atleast. Hmmm unless an Alchemist can administer the extract to an ally, so it doesnt leave his possession...Never thought of that.
Milo Quinn |
"Fabulous Dylan my man." Milo cheered, patting him on the knee. "That spell is good stuff, makes you feel right as rain in no time doesn't it."
He then followed Galen, an equally curious expression on his face. "What do you think there's at the end of it? I bet its a mighty treasure!"
Barz Longfang |
Barz swiftly mixes an elixir and gurgles it down feeling reinvigorated then follows the nosy big man back to where they had come from to see whether the lever had had any effect.
DajellyMan |
You all rest and heal a bit and then decide there is nothing but dead ends down here, so you all head back through the secret door and into the 'U' shaped hallway. From there, you head to the unexplored Western path, which is the same path the chain from the machine runs down.
This path curves up before ending in a closed wooden door. The door proves to be a bit lopsided, and stuck in the door frame.
Galen Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Galen Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Galen gathers himself and shoves his shoulder against the door, but doesn't manage to do anything but hurt his shoulder.
Feeling dejected, his tries once more, this time getting a running start. He bashes the door in half and tumbles forward into the room beyond. The rest of you follow carefully behind.
There can be little doubt what purpose this chamber once served. The dank room stores an ancient torture rack, a fanciful brazen bull, and iron maiden, a cauldron, iron chairs with sharp edges and cruel protuberances, and a wooden table upon which sit various implements of torture. A bronze plaque affixed to the western wall depicts a crowing rooster above crossed spears. Underneath the spear, a short phrase is inscribed in Common:
"Confession Cleanses the Soul - Pain Clarifies the Mind"
Shortly after you enter the room, a voice seems to call out from nowhere. It says in a shrill voice:
"Why don't you take a load off? It sure must be tiresome walking about these cold stone floors. Why not take a seat, rest a bit?"
Dylan: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Barz: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Milo: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Galen: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
The three of you find it completely reasonable an idea to sit down, and find yourselves compelled to do so. Gentlemen, go ahead and sit down in one of the chairs...
Barz Longfang |
The long journey has weakened the young ratling. The offer of a comfortable place to rest seems rather appealing and without a further word Barz seats himself on one of the chairs.
Milo Quinn |
"Well I dont know about that Mr. Ghost voice person." Milo called out. With a grin he turned to look at the others, motioning with a thumb back over his shoulder. "Would you believe this guy? I mean does he really think that we would be stupid enough to HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!?!"
Startled by the actions of the others, Milo jumped at the only one he stood a real chance of stopping.
Grapple Barz: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
DajellyMan |
Whoops, I totally forgot you were an elf :x It actually makes exactly a difference. You can go ahead and ignore the spoiler, as you made your Will save lol
Milo rushes forward as Barz attempts to sit down, and grabs a hold of him as he struggles towards a chair.
You can hear the unseen voice laugh from somewhere in the room.
Dylan Tate |
No problem :-)
As the sourceless laughter rings out Dylan hesitates saying uneasily, "Um, on second thought I think I'll be fine standing".
He'll look for the source of the voice

While Milo struggles to keep a hold on Barz, Galen casually walks over and plops himself down in a chair. Shortly after that, he jumps up in pain as he takes 1d4 ⇒ 2 points of damage from various sharp barbs and spikes protruding from the chair.
The room is then filled with more cackling. Dylan is the first one to notice that suddenly, a large raven appears perched atop the iron maiden, laughing wildly with a glint in its eye. It addresses you all in a shrill voice:
"Oh my that is good! Thank you for the blood, chaps! I have been trapped without any sustenance in this chamber for eons and I feels so great to feed again! But where are my manners?! Greetings, fine citizens of our glorious empire! Welcome to my home! I am afraid I don't have any refreshments to offer you... but I assume you are here looking for the treasure stashed here in the tower? Well, I could certainly help you find it, considering you fed me and all, hehe!"
Milo Quinn |
"Oh HAHAHAH, arent we a funny stupid bird!" Milo shouted, as he continued to wrestle the wiry rat man. "Hows about next time you ask instead huh? Im not sure I even want your help after this!"
Blinking a few times he added. "But suppose I DO want some help...what kinda treasure we talkin' here?"
DajellyMan |
The raven cocks its head and you swear it would be smiling, if birds could smile.
"Well, well, not here for the treasure, hmm? My, my has it been that many years I have been down here that nobody even remembers what this place was? How intriguing. This place was once quite the strong hold, but its occupants where, shall we say 'removed' long ago. Their treasure supposedly was all left here. I suppose I could help you, but I am still awfully hungry... How about a little more blood eh? Just a drop from each of you, nothing much!"
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
You all sort of nod your heads, as if what he is asking isn't too unreasonable.
Milo Quinn |
Milo shook his head at the raven, crossing his arms defiantly and unwittingly letting go of Bars in the process. "No can do. This blood is for livin' not for drinkin'. There are some roasted bugs nearby I could get though."
He flashed a grin with a glint in his eyes. "Or maybe Galen can give a second helping in my stead. It would be so very kind of him if he did."
DajellyMan |
"Ah! Most excellent! I would rather like a sampling of all of you... but I suppose more will do! Just give them fingers a little cut won't you? *mmmmmmm* Yes. That's right..."
The Raven's eyes glow as Galen offers more blood to him.
"I expect you want something in return? *hohum*... Well there is a secret door over there! But oh my my it is a tricky one. It has a nearly impossible lock on it. I think the key is around here somewhere..."
Milo Quinn |
"Oh heavens no." Milo said, in a mock imitation of the raven. "How about being useful and tellin' us where you think you saw it last then." He added, fists on his hips and leaning forward.
DajellyMan |
The raven eyes Barz wearily as he examines the door, after finding it hidden where the raven said.
Barz, you quickly realize that this door is not locked at all.
The raven caws loudly.
"OH HEAVENS!!! I think it must be on that table over yonder."
He motions behind you with his beak.
Milo Quinn |
Distracted by the door creaking open, Milo returned to his wideeyed inquisitive look, bouncing over to stand by Barz' side. "Thinkin' on your toes eeh Barz?" He said, slapping the ratman on the back encouragingly. "Lets see whats in here." He quickly added, before skipping over the treashold of the door.
