Marek Ironblood |
Inspire Courage: +2 competence on attack and damage rolls.
Haste: +1 on attack rolls, +1 dodge to AC and +1 to Reflex saves. 1 extra attack in full round actions.
Greater Magic Weapon: +1 enhancement to damage rolls.
Arcane Pool: Scimitar benefits from the keen and shock properties.
Aiming to conserve his strenght, Marek hacks away with his blade, going for a quick cut to the ogre's legs.
Standard Action: Scimitar Attack (with Power Attack -2/+4): 1d20 + 12 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 12 + 3 - 2 = 32 - Critical Threat!
Critical threat Confirmation roll: 1d20 + 12 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 12 + 3 - 2 = 28 - Think that covers it!
Damage roll: 2d6 + 10 + 6 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 10 + 6 + 8 + (3) = 36
Quick question: Do the undead still count as Giants for favored enemy purposes? If so that's 2 more damage on that.
Celestra Zomesco |
Celestra steps forward and declares, "Nice job, Boys! I'm glad you guys were up front. Here, let me help you out with those wounds."
Raising her holy tankard to the sky, Celestra calls out, "Caydean Cailean, thanks for the victory! This here is for you! Please grant my friends some healing for all the work they've done for you."
Channel Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 6) = 16
Is there anyone other than Harry who needs some additional healing?"
Marek Ironblood |
Marek kneels down near the oversized ogress, checking to make sure she is indeed dead.
Ya only eat wat ya kill, dog! Fatten up nice and easy, dog, we like sum meat on the bones of our supper!
He drives his blade deeply into the creature, as if the simple gesture was enough to drive the images out of his head. Composing himself, he cleans the blade, storing a pint of the blood in a vial.
She is dead. The matron of the Graul clan has finally paid for her sins. Although Harry's axe has deftly cut the head of this monster, its arms are still strong and may strangle us. Let's hunt the other members of the family down and finish this threat once and for all.
Heavy Harry |
"Oh of course, the arms" With two more blows, Harry gets the arms off, the same way he put the extra shots into the first Graul. "This place isn't clear yet, but think I need a sit down for a minute to catch my breath. Sorry Sir Karlan, she got wind of us somehow, no idea, but it came down to kill or be killed and she clearly plays by unfair rules"
Thumper seems fairly agitated at Harrys condition, and begins mauling at the corpse in retribution before Harry pulls the angry dog off.
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Ailetha speaks up.
I should still be invisible. I never directly attacked the monster. I can try to scout out some of the other rooms in the house if you all want. Or Harry can lead again once he is back up.
Looking over at Harry and the rather nasty gashes caused by the zombies: You need any more healing?
Marek Ironblood |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Oh of course, the arms" With two more blows, Harry gets the arms off, the same way he put the extra shots into the first Graul.
I actually meant... Nevermind.
Karlan Bladetwist |
Karlan nods gravely and sighs. "Suppose it couldn't be helped. Oh gds, the smell!" KArlan covers his face and adds with a slight muffling. "Don't ffogut tha leggs too. We check ffor survivors and burn this place to the ground. Almost wish that damn gnome was here."
Celestra Zomesco |
"Just a few flesh wounds..."
"Harry, you pirate, stop trying to be so manly! If you can use a little healing, come here and sit down. Let me see those wounds."
Celestra pulls out the wand of Cure Light Wounds and starts expending 4 charges as she heals up the wounds of Heavy Harry.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
34 charges - 4 charges = 30 charges remaining.
"There you go, Handsome! You're almost as good as new!"
Once Celestra takes care of her first responsibility to keep the party healthy, she then proceeds to cast Detect Magic on the room and look to see if you can see any magical auras in the arcane spectrum.
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |
The spell uncovers some magic auras:
Wand
Wand
Wand
Potion
Spellbook (animate dead, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, chill touch, grease, mage armor, reduce person, true strike, false life, ghoul touch, mirror image, spectral hand, displacement, fly, ray of exhaustion, slow, vampiric touch, contagion, dimension door, bestow curse).
All items are more or less buried under the remains of Mammy...
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Ailetha casts Detect Magic and attempts to identify the objects - once the mighty men have rolled the mound of blubber out of the way.
Spellcraft(Wand 1): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
Spellcraft(Wand 2): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Spellcraft(Wand 3): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Spellcraft(Potion): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Heavy Harry |
"Another door opened and closed earlier, so be careful, there might be someone or something else home. Just like Misgivings, there's been traps about, and just like Misgivings, we can clear this floor and then head up."
Whilst some of the party clear the rest of the bedroom, Harry moves back towards the junction, ready to push on... we will continue working clockwise.
Celestra Zomesco |
"Well, I will trust you, Harry. Lead us onward and I will do my part!"
When Celestra gets a chance she puts her arm around the sorcerer's waist and says. "My dear Alana, that was so brave of you to come in here and face those awful ogres! How are you feeling after a battle with such hiddeous creatures?"
Heavy Harry |
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Harry checks the main coridppr once more for any traps, in case the person or creature that he thought may have passed could have changed something...
Marek Ironblood |
Marek handles the spellbook with obvious disgust and surprise.
I have always known the matriarch to possess some sort of magic, but I have never thought she would be an arcanist. That is... midly unsettling to say the least.
You guys mind if Marek takes the spellbook?
Celestra Zomesco |
"I am fine, love. I would just like to see an end put to all of this, and if possible, I would like to find that cat's companion."
"That would be good! I hate to see a poor cat without a home! " Celestra comforts Alana. "Let's see where Harry takes us next! Now, just be careful in here. If Handsome says not to touch anything, you want to take that warning seriously. We've already had some incidents in our last adventure where I had to learn that lesson the hard way!"
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |
Celestra Zomesco |
Alana smiles warmly at Celestra before kissing her lightly on the lips, "Of course, my dear."
Celestra squeezes the half elf tighter as she is drawn into the kiss and filled with warmth. After a brief moment, as she remembers that she is still near the others in the company, she slowly breaks it off and replies with a warm smile, "We will have to finish that later, my luv! We better see what the others are up to."
Moving to catch up with Harry and Ailetha, Celestra remarks to the others, trying to appear present in the tasks ahead of them, "Have you found anything? Do you think there are more ogres to deal with here?"
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Immediately concerned about what the sack of bones might be, Ailetha casts Detect Magic and then carefully examines the bones without touching them.
Knowledge(all): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 <-- add +2 more on for Religion/Planes/Arcana
Slight retcon:
The potion is a nice healing potion. The wands are all weapons. One shoots magic missiles. The other two are the tools of the necromancer. Usable by most mages, such as you Alana, but imbued with necromantic magics. One will make the enemy's strength drain away. The other is a more powerful spell which actually steals the targets life force, harming the target while healing the user. While these are spells which I would consider quite evil, in the right situation they could be very useful. For instance, Alana could actually heal herself using the Wand of Vampiric touch if one of our healers was not about.
DMZZ - what is the CL on these wands?
Alana Wayworth |
Alana crinkles her nose as Ailetha describes the use of the necromancy items. "Um... yes... I suppose I could hang on to them. They might be useful someday, or perhaps we can trade them for something... else at another time? How practical of you, Ailetha." She tries her best at a smile and to appear agreeable, but it's quite obvious the items are unappealing to her.
Marek Ironblood |
Would you care if I held onto this particular wand until we return to civilization?, Marek asks, pointing at the wand of vampiric touch. This particular spell might provide me with some extra vigor in a difficult situation.
As soon as we get somewhere we can sell it, but 8d6 temporary HP on a squishy front-liner can save his life!
Celestra Zomesco |
"Burning the house will be a good idea, but let's see if we can find the cat's owner first! Lead us on, Harry. We are right behind you."
Marek Ironblood |
Marek nods, placing the wand in a easily-reached spot between his belt pouches. He hunches down, trying to distribute evenly his weight so the wooden planks won't protest.
Puny Stealth check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
He grimaces as they do exactly that.
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Ailetha looks at the bones with disgust: Well, here are the missing ogresses. Mammy knows best I suppose. The really amazing thing is how powerful her magic must have been to attract, or more likely magically induce, that many mates. She probably ate them afterwards.
I do not sense anything else in this room magical, so unless someone wishes to search the room further, I think that we should move on so that we can complete this inquest and then destroy the haven of horror.
Celestra Zomesco |
"This sounds hideous! Ailetha, Is this the way all ogres behave themselves or are the Grauls particularly evil. Let's just say I am well pleased that you took care of that giant Mama creature!"
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |
This filthy bedroom contains little more than a lumpy mattress heaped with twigs mud and hopefully little else. Although the stink of sewage in the rooms indicates otherwise...
Dozens of human and animal fetishes crafted from bones, teeth, hair, cords, twigs, husks and fangs hang from the ceiling. Above the mattress someone has tried to write something...with a lot of imagination it could be Bobby Joe, Billy John or something similar.
Heavy Harry |
Harry's lip just curls into a bit of a snarl. "Filthy animals"
Harry scans for any traps 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18,
Then moves to open the main door in the hall...
Celestra Zomesco |
Celestra draws her rapier and prepares to follow the others, but first she places her hands on Alana and casts guidance. "Let Cayden Cailean guide you and protect you! Be careful, Luv!"
