More bad news? Did something else happen since we saw you last? Actually, we might have a little good news, but you go first.

Pitr's smile disappears as he hears this news. He shakes his head sadly, I'm sorry to hear that. The children are the victims of a murderer named the Rag Man. We pursued him to a shipwreck near the lighthouse, but he escaped back to town after burning his hideout. When we didn't find any bones in the wreck, I had hoped maybe the reports about children kidnapped near the docks were wrong. We managed to pull some of the stolen books from the libraries out of the wreck before it burned, but that's all we found. Alon is also reported to be a victim of this Rag Man. We suspect the Rag Man might be leading the cult of Norgorber.

Alon's body wasn't found? We are currently preparing to look through the sewers to check on a report that cultists have a hideout there as well. I think we might have killed all the cultists left on the island, but you might want to send some 'Scarves to the lighthouse to keep watch. The lighthouse keeper was murdered as well. Is there anything else you can tell us?

Sorry to pester, but did Kirk find anything with his knowledge local check to buy poison somewhere in the city? If it won't be easy, I'll just buy an Alchemist's Kit, and try making a few of my own or something.

Victoria takes Solaric for a stroll through the city, looking much like a lady and her courtier. Their destination is the Shark Pool, and the re-acquaintance with Mr Salvatore.

"Now Solaric, these men we are going to meet with are not the most honest, and not the most pious you will ever meet, although they have a certain sense of honour and principle by which they abide that leaves them somewhat able to be trusted. Their life and methods are very different to your own, and you might do well to observe their world and see how they tick - refrain from offereing them counsel as they are fixed in their ways and defend them earnestly... save your breath for those open to the message"

Venture Captain since December 2014

Solaric walks with a pride in his step as he accompanies the Countess. As they walk, he wonders how many are taking notice of the unusual sight of a half drow and a tiefling walking together through the streets of Karcau.

Your Grace, I have noticed that most people face life with a different approach than me. This is especially true when it comes to matters of faith. I am accustomed to less than stellar motives, but I realize that you are right; this will not be the time to engage in philosophical debate. In the interest of gathering information to further our cause, I will do my best to observe and refrain from comment in the presence of Mister Salvatore. Besides, my mother always use to tell me, “never cast gemstones before wild boars.” I don’t know where the saying ever came from, but she always quoted it to me whenever I tried explaining Iomedae’s ways to my neighbor, Josan Kranth. She always warned me that there were many people that were not ready to hear the ways of the Inheritor. From what you are saying, I am certain that Salvatore and his lackeys will be included in that group. I just hope that they have enough honor that we can trust them to speak truthfully.

@ Kirk: It takes you about an hour to find "Hassard's Handy Things" a small mom-and-pop store in the Rubble District of which you know that it has a very exotic range of goods sold in a backroom. You weren't here before, but several other "sneaky" students told you about it.

@ Pitr, Zahur and Basilli: The captain's expression clearly shows that he is disappointed by the news. He takes some notes while you report, but then - with a heavy sigh sweeps everything from his desk.

This is a nightmare, just a g%!@++n nightmare. he pauses and takes several deep breaths to calm down.

You have to find this Rag Man! I want his head on a pole and I want it fast. The academy masters have pressured me to speed up the solving of the murders...when it were just two! Now we have nine people dead and one missing...six of the victims children...
If you need anything or could point me into any direction I'd be most grateful to be of any help.
Of course, I will instantly send some of my men to the lighthouse islet. Since we found Alon's graduation documents, there must be some record on him in the archives, what about that?

@ Victoria and Solaric: You two strolling through the streets, really is an unusual sight and more than once passers-by pause and whisper.
As you return to the Harbor District you see a crowd of about 50 people next to Mermaid's Quay, shouting and yelling at a group of guards who is hindering the peasants of advancing to half a dozen sheets on the ground.

Venture Captain since December 2014

Come, my Grace, let’s see how we can help.

Solaric approaches the guards and speaks to the highest ranking one.

My good sir, I am a Paladin of Iomedae and appear to have arrived just a moment too late. Please, bring me up to speed and tell me what has happened here. How can I be of service? Why are you holding these folks back and angering them so?

As Solaric notices the sheets, he suspects the worst. With his hands held high, he raises his voice and addresses the crowd in an effort to calm the escalating situation.

Good folks, let us be still. There is evil afoot in this city and these guards are simply doing their duty. Step back so that they may do their work for the sake of justice! Hold your ground and be still!

Diplomacy 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Solaric's stellar diplomatic skills calm the crowd within seconds. Murmur remains, but the people don't push and yell anymore.

The corporal of the guards nods to you thankfully and says

Thank you my lord paladin. This morning six children's bodies have been found on this quay. They look like being murdered in some ritual, since they don't have any injuries besides clean cuts through the throat.
he looks over to the crowd and adds

I think the people are so enraged because the guard hasn't investigated when the children disappeared some weeks ago...I can understand their anger, m'lord.

Venture Captain since December 2014

This heinous crime looks like the work of the Rag Man! I swear that I will bring that fiend down if it is the last thing I do! We are clearly dealing with the most wretched of evil that draws it power from the level of brutality committed. But tell me, Corporal, why haven't these disappearances been investigated sooner? Crimes against our children should be up there among the highest of priorities.

I also have several questions for you concerning this scene. How long ago were these bodies found? Do we have any witnesses? Is this the exact location that the children were found?

Based on Solaric's knowledge of religion, and perhaps his conversation with Tanor Veredan regarding the cult of Norgorber, can the dark elf determine who would perform such an act and why?

Kirk eyes the shop, "Hassard's Handy Things," for a minute or two before entering. He doesn't like to rely on the rumors and tall tales told by his academic peers, but at times he is left with no choice. Finally, he enters the shop and begins inspecting the shelves absentmindedly. If someone offers to help him, he'll ask about seeing the back room's stock. If nobody offers to help him, he'll work his way over to the shop's owner and bring up the subject very nonchalantly.

"I've heard about your 'extra stock' in the back, and was wondering if I could take a look," he bluntly states, never one very good at conversational subtlety.

Victoria is unusually silent, looking at the small outlines concealed by the sheets. Her face is a mask of cold emotionless expression, but for a brief moment, her eyes flash with hatred, burning with demonic fury. It gives Solaric pause for thought about what might befall the Rag-Man should he ever find himself at her 'tender mercy'.

"Children? That these souless cultists would kill and defile a body we have seen first hand ... but to kill and then mutilate ... Children? Gods I can only hope it was in that order!" With a voice like thunder he replies "Captain - My life has been touched by the hand of all the Gods to serve the forces of Life and Light and I swear to you by ALL of them that I will not rest until you have the head of this Ragman on a pike and his vile cult smashed and removed from our city - nay from all our lands!"
Turning to the others "Zahur, Pitr. If you have nothing more to add or ask then let us away! We shall first follow what the good Captain has suggested and see what we can find in the records. @ Solaric and Victoria: The corporal seems to become more and more uneasy as Solaric mentions and underlines the vileness of the Rag Man. He lowers his voice and whispers

M'lord, the guards working in the docks only do the most necessary of work. It's a hard badly paid job and often enough it's a punishment to work in this district. then speaking up: The bodies were found only some hours ago, maybe six or something like that. There are no witnesses and yes, this is the exact location.

You notice a sewer entrance nearby. You don't know enough of the cult of Norgorber to understand this act of brutality.

@ Kirk: A haggard old man in his seventees pulls a curtain aside and steps out of a backroom in the saleroom. He coughs several times and you notice an acidic smell on him.

Solaric approaches the corpses, kneels down and prays for the slain children.

Iomedae, Oh Great Inheritor, Light of My Sword, I call upon you now to bless the souls of these children and heal their souls of the great suffering they have endured. Let them pass beyond this earthly plane and return to a realm where they may know peace hereafter. Open my heart to your will and guide me that I may smite this evil and take down the fiend that is behind this. I pray in your name.

Solaric then stands up and continues his discussion with the Corporal.

My good Corporal, the city of Karcau is now at war with an awakening evil greater than any it has ever seen. The last few days have seen a great rise in unprecedented events, including the brutal acts of murdering children as you have seen. The dock district is the front line. Do you see these entrances to the sewers? I believe these are portals to their lair. I will assist in finding this lair and smiting down the heart of this evil, but I need you to report back to Captain Dumitru and insist on concentrating greater numbers in the dock district. In particular they need to be watching these entrances to the sewers. I trust that you will call for a cleric and take care of these corpses. The parents will need to be able to come up to identify their children and begin mourning their loss. I think we all could use some words of inspiration at this moment.

Solaric then steps up onto a box (or something nearby to give him some height) and turns to all of the guards as he draws his longsword high in an effort to rally their spirits.

My fellow men of arms, today you are given a mighty gift. . . the opportunity to draw your sword and fight for all that is just and good in this world. Put aside your fears and and doubts for today you are granted the opportunity to serve the good people of Karcau. Through your actions you will create the stories of legends that will be told to your children and their children and they will recount the stories for generations to come. Now is the time to rally that courage within you and put aside all thought of return. We are in this together and only by working together will we be able to smite the evil that threatens the very existence of this city!

Solaric then turns and addresses the crowd.

My fellow citizens of Karcau, now is the time for the people to rise up in support of the city. We need you to open your eyes and ears and bear witness to the evil around you and to report any suspicious behavior to the Nightscarves. I ask you to turn to your neighbor and support each other in this awful time of grief. Let us keep our children safe. Open your doors and your hearts to the homeless and to those in need and let us work for the good of all. I need you to be brave at this time and stand proud. We are facing a great evil, but if we work together we shall bring victory to our good city! Join me now in the words that have inspired me all my life. For we will achieve victory and we will smite the heart of the evil upon us. Repeat after me. . . “For Victory. . . For the Heart!” Solaric repeats the Iomedean war cry three times and then addresses the crowd one last time, Let us go forth now and serve!

Solaric steps down, approaches Victoria and offers her his arm. Shall we proceed to the Shark Pool and meet Mr. Salvatore? Regardless of what he says, I have a good mind to start with the sewer entrance right here in Mermaid's Quay. Let's hope the rest of the group will be joining us soon.

@Basilli, Zahur and Pitr

The captain nods curtly, you feel that your visit has enlivened the anger in him and he seems much more focused than before.

Walking over the Grand Academy Square (The Nightscarves' baracks are part of Pettoria) over to the onion domed buildings of Kiavelak, you notice a group of men striding out of the dark granite spires of Vizyalesh. The foremost is Ferenc St. Just and behind him are the teachers for all kinds of combat classes - cream of the crop of Pettoria.

perception DC 20:

You notice that some of them have injuries they try to hide. The injuries look like they stem from frostbite or great heat respectively.

@ Solaric and Victoria

The guards are as dumbfounded by your speech as the peasants. Then suddenly, a lot of the people raise their voices to praise the Inheritor, the Dawnflower or the Gold-Fisted. Some of the Dock District inhabitants even grab nearby pieces of wood and stones to use them as weapons.

One of them yells: Jus' show us where te hit, an' we be there!

After that most of the pretty rough looking men depart and start to patrol the streets around Mermaid's Quay. The corporal meanwhile shakes his head in disbelief and murmurs:

This must be a special day, the dock rats stand up to defend Karcau...

You leave the guards behind and start to walk in the direction of the Shark Pool, unsure what is going to happen next.

That might take awhile and I'm not sure this is the best location to discuss such things. Pitr glances around the square. We've just been consulting with Captain Dumitru and there appears to have been more deaths.

Lowering his voice Pitr leans in toward Ferenc. We believe the cult of Norgorber is involved. At least it appears they were at the ambassador's house after he was murdered and have been stealing books around the city. Another possible link is an Academy graduate named Alon Weatherby. He graduated about six years ago. A wizard I think and we were just going to search the records for information about him.

Pitr leans away and glances toward Vizyalesh Academy. So a visit with Jarovich? business or pleasure? Pitr jokes.

At the utterance of Solaric’s last name, a flash of memories fill his mind as he thinks about his former life as a slave in the darklands. The Zekkaran family had such a notorious reputation for cruelty in the city of Jadeberrazzan, especially their elder son, Solaric’s father, Lacertak. However, here on the surface, he doubted if anyone would even recognize the name. He and his mother decided, after much debate, not to use the name Muralt until they were in a position to reclaim the scepter and the throne. If the Count of Ordranto ever knew that his mother Kiana lived, her life would be in great danger. Some day, when I am in a position to help my mother, I will confront Count Conwrest and he will have to reckon with Solaric Zekkaran!

@ Pitr, Zahur and Basilli: St. Just looks back to the spires of Vizyalesh, his expression hard to judge. Abruptly he turns around and seems worried

Something is wrong here boy. I just found out that there is no inspector from Caliphvas to be expected. They didn't even inform the church of Nethys of the murder.
I bet Jarovich has something to do with it and I also bet that this is no simple murderer you are searching.

Norgorber, you say? I can't imagine Jarovich to have some ties to the church of Father Skinsaw, but since this whole thing is so mysterious it wouldn't surprise me much either.

Salvator's face lightens up as he notices Victoria. He gives her a kiss on the hand and displays his many gold teeth. After the courteous greeting, his expression becomes grave

Four of the children were of our blood. That means that we take thrice as much blood from the murderers and their families. We won't rest until twelve, or all of them lost their life.

I know this Alon Weatherby. He is the son of Gerald Weatherby, the former sewer custodian. His father died about two years ago and the magistrate hasn't installed someone new for the job.

But Alon has left the docks long before, I think he went to one of the academies...even though his father was someone with a well paid job Alon was always a dock rat like all the people from 'round here, I wonder why he has never returned. Pitr seems a bit startled at this blatant warning to Basilli. He glances at Basilli with a speculative eye and then turns back to Ferenc. Not even Captain Dumitru? We were just heading over to Kiavelek to see if we can find some record of this Weatherby character, but I'm beginning to wonder if we might not have more luck seeing if he attended Vizyalesh. Will Jarovich cooperate or should we have someone else deal with them? Can you look into it for us? You know, I'm not too keen on bookwork anyways.

Pitr smiles wickedly. Plus I believe there are some rats to clear out of the sewers.

@Victoria and Solaric: Salvator furrows his brows and repeats the name silenty

Rag Man...this creature turned up some months ago, roaming the streets by night and...and stealing children...at least that was what the beggars and night owls who saw him said. But stealing maybe is the wrong word, they reported he just walked away with them hand in hand...up to now I thought the whole story was just gossip, but now that the bodies have turned up...I heard you have already investigated the shed Alon used to live in and the opera, the only other place I can imagine where he could be found is his father's house next to the main sewer entrance.

@Pitr, Zahur and Basilli: St. Just coughs nervously as you mention a possible meeting with Jarovich

Jendarne, I have to admit that I would rather not meet the count again...at least not without proper preparation. If you want to look into the archives of Vizyalesh, you should try to do this as sneaky as possible...actually I somehow sense that the good count is deeper envolved in this whole matter than any other of the academy masters.

"I'm looking for something to give my pointed stick here some stopping power. I'm thinking some spider venom or wasp poison, something cheap and available but not useless. Can you help me with one of those?"

I'm thinking giant wasp poison or something a little less powerful on the "injury" poisons listed on the SRD.

Does Solaric know where this main sewer entrance is located?

Local Knowledge Check 1d20 ⇒ 17

The check seems pretty good, so I will assume that Solaric knows, but if he doesn't, then he will ask before departing.

I thank you, Mr. Salvator. You have been most helpful. I wish you and your family my deepest condolences. With much of Karcau uniting against this atrocity, I do hope that justice will be swiftly served!

Solaric respectfully bows and then offers his arm to Countess Victoria to depart.

As Solaric leaves with the beautiful Tiefling on his arm, he lowers his voice and confides in her.

My Dear Countess, you have a marvelous way of seeing the large picture in this tangled web of death and destruction. Please help me to understand the implications of what we have just heard.

Alon Weatherby, the missing fiancé of the deceased opera starlet is also the son of Gerald Weatherby, the deceased sewer custodian. The father died about two years ago and the magistrate hasn’t installed someone new for the job. Does this fact imply that the magistrate is involved in some sinister plot considering that by not replacing a sewer custodian, he has allowed evil to inhabit the sewers unchecked? I just don’t understand how somebody in the magistrate’s position could withstand public scrutiny and not rehire a manager for that position.

The fact that Gerald lived next to the sewer entrance is not a surprise in itself considering his occupation, but the fact that Mr. Salvator actually suspects that the Rag Man could easily inhabit that place of residence sure implies that Gerald knew something was happening in the sewers and his life became threatened. Perhaps that information is also the same information that caused the death of the ambassador, the starlet, and now possibly Alon.

Speaking of Alon, do you think he was an innocent bystander to everything or that he was directly involved in some of these deaths? Perhaps the answer will be found at his father’s residence next to the main sewer entrance. Do you think we have time to visit there before the rest of the party meets up with us? or would that be unwise considering that it is just the two of us?

Does Solaric have a sense of time and if the two hours in which we agreed to meet the others at the Shark Pool is nearly up?

”Well I may have the wrong end of it, but my deductions are that we have two dead bodies in a room, nothing seems to really link them, aside from some damaged libraries, but lets think more carefully, they died without a struggle... charmed perhaps? Or fascinated? Both of those are low level magics that could easily have left the victims succeptible to being easily killed."

"The killer is no great magician, he, or she, was using potions or low level spells to effect their getaway... did you smell that room? Reagents for the use of Cats Grace or the like. I thus suspect a neophyte mage, who may be from the Academy – and I well suspect our ‘masters’ know or suspect this, hence the use of ew students who may think like the assassin and be closer to the ground than the old Academics. The murderer then took off across the rooftops, an accomplished magician would possibly have flown or become unseen to the naked eye, a good assassin would have held closer to the shadows – either way they wouldn’t have been spotted by strangers in a street... no I believe that Alon arriving at the Inn was merely a ruse for him to return to the scene of the crime and examine the nature of the inquiry and strength of the pursuers on his tail. Either he IS the Assassin, or he is the assassins confidante. He sure as the Hells is no fiancé.”

“So let us continue this line of thought a moment longer.”

“We know that Weatherby was living at the docks, and a witness says he was ‘got’ by the Rag Man, I can assume at this point that the witness saw the Rag Man at Weatherbys’ run down hovel, which bore no signs of any real struggle... no blood, no broken furniture... because HE was the Rag Man seen leaving.”

“Now lets follow further still, in order to run the operation of a secret cult or shrine, one would need a secure base of operations, far from prying eyes and the scrutiny of the Nightscarves, where better than in the poorer areas? People go missing from time to time, and the lot of the young urchins barely draws outrage, if a few went missing this would not be unexpected, people would believe they had run away, adults could have been pressed for service on a ship or just departed for better opportunities. No you’d need space to hide all that, and a ready supply of people who wouldn’t be missed.”

“The ruined ship was merely a safe spot, not the lair itself, so this gives us somewhere else, probably underground. A sewer is ideal, plenty of places to get in unobserved, plenty of discrete entrances and exits around the place... and apparently no keeper ensuring that the only rats down there come with FOUR legs.”

The Magistrate is not necessarily to blame, it is not as though a sewer that appears to be working and not causing him any concern is worth prioritising, especially for the paupers, he’d have other more pressing matters.”

But our young Alon, he’d be the sort of rat that would know their layout well, and would be well aware of large ante-chambers or emptied reservoirs...”
“Convenient indeed, and I’ll be drawing the truth of it from him this time.”

@ Solaric: Your sense ot time tels you that about 90 minutes of the two hours have passed. Just tell me if you'd like to visit the Weatherby's residence or not. You know where the place is.

@Kirk: The old man crouches behind his desk and gets out a variety of vials and small bottles. He smiles a wicked smile as he gets up again and says

@Pitr, Zahur and Basilli: St. Just just smirks

Wouldn't it be nice, if the world was that easy Basilli? Just root out all evil and then live happily ever after? In my experience it's never that simple: Sometimes friends turn to foes and at other times you find a spark of light in the heart of darkness.

You are pretty sure that he hides some facts about the tensions between the academies.

Pitr sure wasn’t going to catch anything, but there is a Perception check up there, Basilli.

That's probably not our skill set, but I think I know a fellow Pettoria grad that has a bit of practice creeping around at night.

Pitr turns back to Zahur and Basilli, Well, I think we are overdue to meet the rest of the party. Our research work will have to wait for now. Should we head back then? I've got to stop by Pettoria for a minute, but I will catch up with you.

Venture Captain since December 2014

Well, my Grace, we still have about another half an hour before the rest of the party will be meeting at the Shark Pool. Rather than tarry awhile, lets take a moment to investigate the Weatherby Residence. We should be able to make it back in time. Perhaps we can find some clues there before we enter the sewers.

Solaric and Victoria proceed with haste straight to the Weatherby residence.

DMZ, Solaric would not be inclined to investigate the residence alone. Considering that Victoria gone for the weekend, do you think it is ok to have her come along with Solaric or should I have both return to the Shark Pool and save the encounter for more people?

The Weatherby's residence surely once was one of the most impressive buildings of the Harbor District. Now it's former white walls are grubby and the wall surrounding the estate has lots of cracks. The gardens have imbruted and while all doors and windows of the three-storey building are closed, you bet that a zillion of curious people investigated the dilapidated manor.

Within the walls is also the main sewer entrance, a crypt like, low building with a massive iron door.

Maybe it's better to return to the Shark Pool just for now. So the group can assemble and speak about the next actions.

Venture Captain since December 2014

So this is the manor of old Weatherby. It doesn’t look like much now, but I suspect there is some dark evil lurking inside. My instinct is to rush in with sword slashing, but I often think of your earlier words and remind myself that perhaps patience is the best course to take. Alone there is little I can do, but united as a group our foes will not stand a chance. Let’s return to the Shark Pool and come back later with everyone present.

Solaric and Victoria return to the Shark Pool. Along the way, the dark elf keeps alert for any injustices he may witness along the streets.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

"Thanks. I'll take one dose of the Dhabba Spittle for now, but I'll be checking back in before too long I'm sure." Kirk pays the man and slips the vial into his belt pouch, then hesitates as a thought occurs to him. "Say... I've got an idea. I need a space to practice my work, and seeing as this is an alchemist's shop, I imagine you've probably got one." Kirk speaks slowly, letting the man absorb each word carefully.

"I won't ask to rent your lab, because I'd rather buy my own before doing something of that sort. Instead, how about some sort of business deal? You grant me access to your lab when I need it, and I'll pay for my raw materials. In return I'll give you protection, if you ever need it, and any services you might need that you'd deem worthwhile." Kirk then fishes around in his pack and retrieves the bottle of Outlaw Whiskey (which I imagine is less than half-full, but still quality whiskey) and puts it on the counter. "I try to treat my friends well," he says, then slides the bottle across the counter into the man's hand. "Think about it, and I'll check back tonight or tomorrow, or whenever I get the chance: I've got a busy lifestyle as it stands."

Diplomacy 1d20 ⇒ 4

Kirk exits the door with a slight nod of his head in farewell, giving the man some time to think it over. But as he leaves, he turns and yells through the still-open door, "And no hard feelings if you say no! I can always keep 'finding my way' into the Noriski Academy's labs, if I need to!"

He then makes his way to the Shark Pool, keeping his eyes out for any enemies that might be around or following him.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Male Human Life Oracle 3rd

"Aye Pitr - let us head back to the others and see what we can do."

M Chelish Fighter

if we are finished here.
Just before Pitr leaves the square with Basilli and Zahur he mumbles, Pardon me, I've got to see a man about a horse. You'd understand that, Zahur, right? and mysteriously disappears back into Pettoria.

DMZ:
One order of Breastplate please with fries. ; )

@Kirk: The old man nods and shouts after you

Normally people who'd like to call me friend tell me their name! But I will think about your offer, boy!

Pitr:

Fries are out, you have to take onion rings. The breastplate looks good, an eagle is embossed on it.

I assume everyone has returned to the Shark Pool now

The tavern is nearly bursting as you arrive: Dozens of people want discuss in smaller and larger groups what the best next step could be.
Some argue that hunting the killer down is best, others recommend setting up a trap for him, others again plan to flee the city on next morning.

Salvator is standing together with Gorian and a group of older Sczarni men, whom you suspect to be the patriarchs of the Varisian families.

Venture Captain since December 2014

When Solaric returns, he approaches Gorian, Salvator, and the Patriarchs. My respects to you all, gentlemen. The paladin bows in greeting. Gorian, you have been a worthy ally and you have helped us greatly in our task. Do you wish to join us now as we prepare to take take down this wretched villainy?

As Zahur, Pitr, Basilli and Kirk enter the Shark Pool, Solaric excuses himself and walks over to greet them as they enter. "Well met, my friends, I am glad to see you have returned safely!", he greets each one with a firm handshake. Nice Breastplate, Pitr! Once everyone arrives, let's take a moment to discuss our next step.

I hope you have all fared well. I trust you spoke with Dumitru. Tell me of any news he sends. Her Grace and I encountered the crime scene of six murdered children in Mermaid’s Quay, four of whom belonged to the Sczarni. As you can see, their death has sparked the local residents into action.

Solaric looks around carefully and lowers his voice. There is a sewer entrance that the villains must have used in Mermaid’s Quay. We have also located the old manor house that was the residence of Alon Weatherby’s father, who before his death, was the caretaker for the sewer system. The dilapidated building is located right at the main entrance to the sewers. I propose that we start there immediately and then proceed underground from there. Let us smite them in the heart!

Pitr arrives a bit after the others looking quite proud with a cheroot burning in the midst of a large smile. He is now armored in a burnished breastplate with stylish embossed eagle across the chest. He nods in acknowledgement of Solaric's compliment.

He notes, I've always hated scale mail. It makes me feel like a Gorum-damned FISH! Hey Solaric, you got a couple coppers for a drink. I'm flat broke.

Solaric:
how'd you know I bought breastplate, huh? are you intercepting my secret messages? btw, I noticed you're only taking a +4 armor bonus for your scale, it's +5.

Solaric inwardly groans at the sight of Pitr and his cheroot. I can't believe that he has the audacity to ask me for some coins for drinking! I had a feeling that meeting in the Shark Pool would present this problem. First Kirk Spearborn and his outlaw whiskey and now Pitr Jendarne with a stinking cigar and a whole bar of choices. At least he has good taste in armor.

Master Jendarne, may I recommend a refreshing glass of water. It is wholesome to drink, good for your hydration, and with a little luck, it wont cost you a copper. Please keep in mind that we won’t be here for long. As soon as Kirk Spearborn arrives, I hope to lead us away from here and down into the sewers, and we need you in full control of your judgement, senses and behavior!

Solaric cannot be leaving soon enough. The time passes agonizingly slow as they wait for the arrival of Kirk Spearborn. Where is that half-orc?! We need to be out of here now!
