Knowledge - arcana 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Marak ruminates upon the words on the scroll, and moves to gently touch the fallen bodies, seeking to learn all he can of them through his divine gift from the lorekeeper.
Lore Keeper Knowledge domain power allows him to gain knowledge of a creature touched as if he had the appropriate knowledge skill and rolled a 25. He does this on the skinsaw man, his revenant wife and a random fallen ghoul, and shares what he learns with the others of these creatures, in case they ever face their like again, and need to know means of combating them.
Lore Keeper (Sp): You can touch a creature to learn about its abilities and weaknesses. With a successful touch attack, you gain information as if you made the appropriate Knowledge skill check with a result equal to 15 + your cleric level + your Wisdom modifier.

Inikai |

Arcana check:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"Where does this end?" Inikai asks with exasperation clear in his tone. "Before this, it was Nualia with her plans to make a burned offering of Sandpoint's population. What comes now? How many enemies do we have?"

"This box appears to have been intended to be the phylactery of a lich, a device in which he would store his soul, so that his body remains beyond the reach of death, able to retreat until it can recover, even if apparently slain." Marak says, distracted from the gruesome surroundings by this retreat into matters academic.
"It does not appear to have been successfully completed, or activated, so whomever sought to become a lich appears to have failed..."

Inikai |

When Marak says that the box was intended to be a lich's phylactery, Inikai's concentration wavers and the box nearly drops to the ground. He manages to stop it and hold it suspended inches from the ground before leavitating it slowly to eye level again.
"Perhaps that shape in the mold is what became of the failed aspirant." Inikai backs away from the wall of fungus without even being aware of it."Gods, this place is sickening. Why does there have to be more of it?"

Esteriande d'Litran |

"What will become of ze lich's spirit zen, my friend?" Esteriande asks softly. "Where does ze power of ze rite go? Zere, I zink, ees ze evil I 'ave felt in every plank of zis 'ouse. I pray eet is not 'im, zat eet ees just ze echo of 'is feelthy rite," she shivers, "but I fear eet is not."

"I can douse it in acid, if you wish. The effects should be much the same as burning it with fire..." Marak says, and the triply-entwined Thassilonian runes tattooed along his forearm flicker with emerald radiance, as he flings a spattering of acid at one of the ghoul corpses, by way of example.

There is no Magical aura on the mold. However you do get some readings from Alderns body. Two rings and the razor show auras along with a rather familiar medallion bearing the sihedron rune

"There are equal possibilities that I am having some sort of mental collapse or that the mold is malicious and trying to attack my mind." Marak says abruptly. "If anyone has a torch handy, burn the stuff."
His face shines green in the light of his tattoos as he flings another surge of acid, this time directly at the mold-growth.

Was there any reason Ali didn't pick up any of these when she detected magic? Wellard

Romon |

Romon sees Muchorak and the torch and brightens up. In a flash his backpack is off and he's rummaging through it.
"Macho man. I've got something that will help you out." He draws out two flasks of oil. "This will really get things going. "
The rogue glances around at the furnishings. "We could burn the tables and chair too. The paper would make good tinder. Maybe we could bring some of the furniture from upstairs too. It would be drier."
His new enthusiasm doesn't distract him from business however. He has a quick look at the silver and china.
Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
The cavern contains several items of furniture. A rickety table sits in the middle of the cave, its damp surface cluttered with all manner of what appears to be garbage: empty bottles, bits of clothing, crumpled bits of paper, and more, lying in neatly organized rows. A painting leans against the far side of the table, facing a large leather chair that sits nearby. This chair’s high back and cushion are horribly stained by smears of rotten meat and its arms are sticky with blood. A smaller table sits against the southern wall, its surface heaped with silver platters, fine porcelain plates, and crystalware.

Esteriande d'Litran |

"I know where we can ignite a pyre down 'ere zat will burn well, a cavern with ventilation. We can bring wood from above to fuel it."
Esteriande is thinking of the bat-cave where she entered the complex and slew the giant bat. There were bodies there that also need to be laid to rest ...
Edit:
"Un moment," she attempts to detect evil again, not truly expecting the fire to make a permanent change.

DM Wellard |

The evil has abated but is still present..indeed as you watch a tendril of fungus appears on the burnt patch.
Ali
Marak

Esteriande d'Litran |

"How can we destroy this?"
"A powerful exorcism?" Esteriande hazards. "Such ees beyond me, but we may find a priest capable - zer is ze new cathedral in Sandpoint, zay must 'ave a preist of some authority zere, and eet is close by."

Marak releases a surge of positive energy, aspected towards the destruction of the undead, to see if it has any effect on the strange mold.
positive energy damage 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) = 7
Examining the results (or lack thereof), he closes his eyes and centers his thoughts on the wisdom of the lore keeper, to see if there is any lore about unnatural life that springs up in areas of great evil, and how to destroy such.
guidance-assisted Knowledge-religion check 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Ugh. As Esteriande might say, 'je suck.'

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Inikai, sry if I confused but I was asking in the OOC because I don't think Muchorak in his native spiritualistic beliefs would understand the value of Holy Water in a situation like this. Or for that matter the usefulness of it against such vile unholy things.

Alisebett |

As her packmates seem to ignore her Ali stamps her foot and says more loudly "Magic stick! Ali find magic stick but she no know what it do!" while shaking said stick back and forth in the air.

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Muchorak turns to Wolfspirit, "I'm afraid I don't know how to learn what it does either. Perhaps you know of a way to return this cave to its natural way? Without the corruption."

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Magic stick! Ali find magic stick but she no know what it do!"
"I fear I cannot assist you zere, mon petit loup-garou, per'aps Monsieur Prêtre or Madmoizelle Sorcier can better analyse such magic?"
She watches the attempts at destroying the mould.

DM Wellard |

The holy water sizzles as it contacts the fungus and washes it away.As you watch another sheen of discolouration appears on the wall.

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Ze mould is but ze symptom, eet eez ze sprit be'ind eet zat we must destroy or drive out," Esteriande declares. "We must consult with a more knowledgeable authority, I zink. Come, my friends, we 'ave much 'ard work to do. Zere is a cavern near 'ere where I entered zat 'as ze ventilation required for ze pyre we 'ave talked of."
Listing the body of the dead Iesha, Estariande heads toward the ghoul-bat's cave.

Romon |

Romon frowns at the reappearing mold. "Maybe a bigger fire? If we roast the roots it'll surely turn a doornail."
As Esteriande prepares to lift Iesha Romon can't help saying, "Marak will help you. He lives to send the dead on their way."

![]() |

Marak ponders Roman's comment for a second, as if turning it around in his head and looking for some deeper meaning, before clipping his morning star to his belt and assisting Esteriande with the body of the former revenant.
"I increasingly turn to Muchorak's solution of burning the place behind us. I have searched my mind for knowledge of such unwholesome growth on sites of great evil, but my training did not prepare me for such things, and I have no counsel to give."
Or, yanno, maybe I blew the knowledge check. This sounds cooler. :)

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Marak will help you. He lives to send the dead on their way."
Esteriande fixes him with a serious look.
"One may be a skilled warrior, Monsieur Romon, yet 'ave no love of dealing death. Fear ze man 'oo does, for 'ee 'as lost 'is path. Ze warrior's place is to defend zose unable to do so, not to simply kill."

Inikai |

Inikai gestures toward the severed head of Foxglove and levitates it from the ground. I can always drop or hurl it as a weapon if we are attacked en route. It also frees up the arms of the fighters he thinks. He then crouches and hefts the rest of the corpse onto his shoulder. If Foxglove wore armor then Inikai will remove it from the body and put it into his haversack first.
"I suppose we should gather up Foxglove's effects. If nothing else, they might provide insight into whatever enemies await us"

Romon |

Romon wrote:"Marak will help you. He lives to send the dead on their way."Esteriande fixes him with a serious look.

Romon serves up his second best smile. "You misunderstand me, Esteriande. I'm not saying Marak enjoys killing. Just that he enjoys planting them once they're corpses. Just an hour or two after I met him we ran across a whole gaolful of the long past departed. Marak transplanted them all in king's coachmen's style."
Wellard, what about that appraisal of the silver, et al? (Rolled a 25) Is it worth taking?

DM Wellard |

You cannot properly appraise the silver etc because it is heaped with rotting meat..if you wish to clear that and then clean and purify the items you may then make a valuation. You do spot a silver key ring with two keys on it in the midst of the carrion
