Male Dwarf Rogue 2

Hey guys, I'm afraid I'm going to have to bow out of this game. My schedule at work has really been ramping up, and I just don't have time for that third PbP anymore. Sorry about this, but I figured this would be preferable to a whole summer of me posted once a week.

Minor Crab-beast

Sorry to hear that Bazil - but real life comes first. Was a pleasure having you for the short time we were able.
All - have a post up on OOC thread for your attention

Male Half-Elf Alchemist (Beastmorph/Vivisectionist) 4 (HP 31/31) (AC 21/11/20) (CMD 18) (Fort +6, Ref +5, Will +2) (Init +3) (Perception +13)

Setesh shrugs.

"Well, there is only one way to find out; we will have to investigate ourselves! Come, let us discover what awaits us within..."

With that, Setesh begins to purposefully make his way towards the entrance, his morningstar gripped tightly in his right hand...

Sorry to see you go, Bazil :-/

Minor Crab-beast

As Setesh approaches the arch, a tiny dog-like creature pops up then turns tail and runs. As he runs he starts screaming "Bigguns, bigguns is here"

Jaru starts in astonishment, "What in all of Golarion was that?"

In actual fact.... yes....

Official Bestiary description: "As if the world's most revolting lapdog had somehow learned to walk on its back legs"

Setesh sighs in annoyance.

"Well, it looks as if all of the residents of the outer region will know we are here... Let's go to meet them..."

He then hurries forward...

Female Human (Garundi) Ranger 1/Sorcerer 2

Noor draws her sword and approaches the entrance.

Minor Crab-beast

As you approach the entrance, you can see that the interior is filthy. There is food debris and rubble strewn across the floor. The entrance goes back about 40ft before meeting a wall. There are ten foot wide corridors at the extending on each side of the end. The dog-like creature is nowhere in sight.

Perception DC 10:
You see a very crudely made tripwire at the entrance, though given it's height it obviously seems to be made to alert against smaller creatures than yourselves.

Female Human (Garundi) Ranger 1/Sorcerer 2

Perception -> 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

"Hold! There is a line stretched across our path. Low, near the floor."

Seeing the potential trap stirs something inside her. Noor sees the shimmer of a phantom scale-covered shield appear before her for a moment, then it fades away.

If convinced this is the only wire she will enter the tunnel.

Cast Shield AC now 20.

Male Half-Elf Alchemist (Beastmorph/Vivisectionist) 4 (HP 31/31) (AC 21/11/20) (CMD 18) (Fort +6, Ref +5, Will +2) (Init +3) (Perception +13)

"Why not?"

Setesh then pulls out a coin, and flips it.

1=go left, 2=go right

"We should probably keep an eye out for more traps, though..."

Minor Crab-beast

Moving forward through the filthy entryway, the party enters the left corridor, to find that it is a twin of the other - merely bending around in a half-circle before entering another chamber beyond. Obviously the first wall is some kind of wind wall aiming to keep the worst of the desert storms from entering the structure proper.

The second chamber is slightly larger than the first, and has a number of small lean-to shelters against the wall. A stone statue graces the center of the room, though it has been defaced and chipped down to a nub that does not suggest what it originally looked like.

There looks to be a few side-chambers sequestered by doors further into the room. The fleeing creature is not yet visible.

Male Half-Elf Alchemist (Beastmorph/Vivisectionist) 4 (HP 31/31) (AC 21/11/20) (CMD 18) (Fort +6, Ref +5, Will +2) (Init +3) (Perception +13)

Setesh scans the room.

"Well, if we are going to be methodical about it, we should clear-out each room as we come across it..."

He then begins the task of gingerly sifting through the room.

Perception take 10 = 17.

Pharasmin Clr 5 AC:18; hp: 36/38; Saves: fort +6 ref +3 will +7; 1 reroll

Jaru glances at the seriously defaced statue, "It certainly doesn't appear that they appreciate art whatever they are." He starts flipping over lean-tos looking for where they little nippers went.

Minor Crab-beast

As you investigate the room you uncover countless treasures.... well the way they were hidden makes it seem like they were that to the owners. A collection of insect corpses, some twigs and even a cache of buttons were found in the lean-tos, but no signs of the creature yet.

Perception DC 18:
You can hear some noises coming from one of the forward corridors that sound alot like footsteps, and there are more than one set.

Surprise Round:

With a now noticeable sound of tiny feet skitting across the stone floor, a number of small creatures burst into the room at the far end. A couple resemble the dog-like creature that fled from you initially; there are two insectoids with crab like heads wielding hammers, three bat eared creatures with pointed teeth and one larger than the rest hunchbacked with three eyes and most of it's body covered by oil-slick foul hair.

The larger one yells at the party "Bigguns is here and Boss says Bigguns need be make dead!" as it gesticulates crudely at the group.

Round 1: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru

The oily haired hunchback skitters forward a bit and waves its hands in the air and mutters in a guttural language. The air shimmers around Setesh and Noor as a spell attempts to take hold. Will Save DC 13 please

Spellcraft DC17:
Spell-like ability to cast heat metal

Failed Will Save:

The two insectoids move up to flank the hunchback as though bodyguards.

The dog creatures take potshots at Jaru and Tarik with their miniature bows.
Jaru shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 for 1 damage
Tarik shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 for 1 damage

The three bat eared critters hang back towards the rear of their group.

Can give me a Knowledge Nature or Planes to attempt to identify the critters.
The hunchback is about 20ft in front of you, the dog creatures are another 15ft beyond that, and the bat eared ones are near the dog creatures.

Tarik shouts in surprise as the strange creatures suddenly attack, interrupting his search for the errant Bazil. Ripping his sword from its sheath, Tarik tries to identify these strange creatures.

Minor Crab-beast

Tarik:
The creatures are all Gremlins, originally from the realm of the Fae, though they have lived on the material plane for a long time. They usually don't get along - so you are not sure what has compelled them to coexist like this.
The dog-like one is a Pugwampi, friend to gnoll and bringer of bad luck to all those close to them.
The bat eared ones are Jinkin, they slink and slither striking from shadow, and can disappear to reappear close by.
The insectoid are Vexgit, experts at disassembling technology.
The hunchback is a Nuglub, and clearly the most dangerous. It can call forth magical forces and unnatural strength in its limbs allow it to trip and grapple creatures much larger than itself.
Both the Vexgit and the Nuglub are partially impervious to normal weaponry.
Gremlin are not known for their bravery, so perhaps if you were able to kill some the rest would turn tail and run.

Round 1

Will save -> 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Will be out all day so will post this early. Not sure Setesh's action would change this.

Noor looks at Jaru quizzically. "Why should I drop my sword when I can do this. She runs up along one side of the room to the hairy one. Coming at it, so that only one crab might attack her freely.

And with a yell seeks to cleave the hunchback in twain.

Setesh looks at Jaru incredulously.

"You must be joking. I can't help touching metal!"

Will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9.

Ouch. 8d4 damage that I can do nothing about is going to hurt, a lot...

He then downs his mutagen, and moves-up to engage the insectoids.

Minor Crab-beast

Setesh - I'd let you blow a full-round action to shed the breastplate if you like.
Noor, having moved up to the hunchback, you're in the range of the unluck aura of the dog eared creatures (pugwampi). So any time you need to roll a d20, you have to roll two and take the worst result.
1d20 ⇒ 8 - so you miss.

Round 2: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru

Jaru shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 for 1 damage
Tarik shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 for 1 damage

The bat gremlins grin maliciously, winking out of existence and appearing next to Jaru and Tarik.

The insectoid move underneath your feet and swing their little hammers upwards toward your nethers. One AoO each for Setesh and Noor
Setesh attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 for 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 damage

As the tiny insect with the overlarge hammer moves into position at Noor's feet, a heavy backhand catches it across the midsection. Although it doesn't take as much damage as the strength of the blow it still reels in anguish as it's lifeblood starts to leak onto the floor.

The claw of the oily hunchback snags on Noor's heel, sending her crashing to the floor.

Round 2: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru

Jaru's crossbow bolt goes wide of the mark and skitters off the floor into one of the lean-tos.

Setesh steps away from the insect like creature at his feet and promptly tears it to pieces. His claws and teeth meet significant resistance as they contact the creature, but her alchemically enhanced strength drives them through. However his breastplate starts to get uncomfortably hot 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage

Noor is currently prone, to stand would cop an AoO from the hunchback

Setesh's breastplate continues to heat up - starting to glow a dull red as it burns him - 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 damage.

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

Read the spoiler, could be fun.

19 is a pretty darn good save for this level, but I somehow have the feeling that it wasn't high enough for this lol. Just my paranoia I suppose.

Female Human(Garundi-Osirian) Witch 3

FYI - DM VoV's wife went into labor today. He posted on another thread. I do not think that there will be much action for the next few days.

Which I guess means that Grynbarl's trip is gonna be really long.

Female Human (Garundi) Ranger 1/Sorcerer 2

Good luck with everything Mark!

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

EXCITEMENT!

Dropping in from elsewhere to pass the word along:

Thanks for the well wishes, have a brief period of quiet at home with our 3 year old while my wife's sister is on duty at the hospital.

Our wee one was born in the early hours this morning and both mum and bub are resting up and doing fine. Unfortunately a C-sect so recovery will be a bit longer, but have family in town to help out which will make it alot easier as we run shifts at hospital helping out.

Obviously will still be a few days before brain is rested enough and have adequate time to make sense of anything, but wanted to let y'all know that the delivery went fine.

Thanks for the cross-post Cynara :)

Wife and Bub continue to do well and all things considered should hopefully be back in our own home as of tomorrow. Will see how the home-life settles out before committing to a specific time for wading back online so will keep you posted on when that occurs and we'll start this wee beastie back up.

Minor Crab-beast

Back home with wife and baby boy and things continue to go well. You might have noticed that I've stepped back into the PbPs that I play in; and if things continue to go well I'll be back DMing in the next couple of days.

Just want to make sure that when I do re-start that I'm able to commit wholehearted and get things rolling with the quality and focus that I'd like.

So if I can test your patience for just a mite longer that would be much appreciated.

Female Human(Garundi-Osirian) Witch 3

I understand how it is with a new member of the family.

Birth, the Third World.

Minor Crab-beast

And we are a go for restart - might be some delays here and there as I've visitors in town for another couple of weeks, but we are back on track and active once more.

Many thanks for bearing with me through the addition of the wee one to my family.

Female Human(Garundi-Osirian) Witch 3

Woohoo - party. Now we just need some beetles to make it really fun. Er, ok, actually, come to think of it, we can skip the beetles.

Male Human (Garundi) Magus 3

Working up a response. I believe we were looking to trade this spyglass (which Tarik is totally going to try and steal back, though maybe at a time outside the scope of this adventure) for the strange box?

Female Human(Garundi-Osirian) Witch 3

I am more interested in seeing his response, perhaps we can get something else for him rather than the eyeglass. Do you guys have anything else? We definitely want to make the trade, but if necessary, we could undertake a mission to recover something else for him to exchange for the box - or even to be able to examine the box and see if we can open it.

Female Human (Garundi) Ranger 1/Sorcerer 2

Yeah, I am not interested in selling the eyepiece. But the amulet is up for sale (or trade) if he is interested. But discussion of the box is where we want this to go.

Minor Crab-beast

Just need some in character input - don't need to roll diplo or anything, just launch into a counter interrogation.

You can always take tack of saying that you don't want cash, you're interested in trade and would need to see his collection before knowing for sure?

He might even know more than he lets on about this particular eyeglass...

Male Hooman Utter Fool/4

I'll get my 2 cents in soon, I swear. I've been giving all my RP juice to the 2 games I'm running.

Female Human(Garundi-Osirian) Witch 3

As an FYI for all, I may be off the boards from Friday the 18th until Monday the 28th. I have attempted to download a program which allows me to tether my PC through my Iphone, but do not know whether it will work where I am going. Thus, I hope to keep up with my characters, but if I fall behind, feel free to DMPC me as necessary.

Minor Crab-beast

Ok - time for a reality check again on this campaign. The last week of real time brought only 7 posts in the gameplay thread, of which 3 were from me. We've been stagnant for some time even before this and I'm getting a distinct feeling that there isn't a huge drive to keep this campaign afloat from most of the players.

So unless convinced otherwise - I'm going to call a halt on the Osirion expedition and close the thread down. It has been an enjoyable journey from my perspective and the lessons that I've learnt on this PbP have helped me to be a better DM for the other ones that I run here on site. I may very well put those lessons into practice and reopen a Osirion based game at some point in the future.

I apologize that we didn't get to fight through to get your revenge on the Scarab that Walks and see the treasures that were actually held in the vault of the Four Pharaohs (as well as tread the tightrope of negotiation with Lathrat) - but I think the right decision is to stop here rather than attempting to linger on and keep things going.

If people like I can give a cliff notes version of what I had in store for you for the rest of the campaign?

Male Half-Elf Alchemist (Beastmorph/Vivisectionist) 4 (HP 31/31) (AC 21/11/20) (CMD 18) (Fort +6, Ref +5, Will +2) (Init +3) (Perception +13)

Understood.

Best of luck with your future campaigns :-)

Male Human (Garundi) Magus 3

An unfortunate, but not unexpected, occurrence. I'll say that though my interest is certainly here, I rarely have the time anymore to get a good post in.

I'm sure that my own tardiness in posting has been quite a bother, and for that I apologize. No fault of yours. I'll recommend you to any erstwhile player out there.

Awww man. I can understand your sentiment, and don't think it reflects on you or your DM style.

Noor definitely wasn't optimized, but was fun. She will live on in a sort, in some writings I am working on. It is not pathfinder based, so there will be some modification....although I may go for something with the Paizo short story contest though. Noor, the Groom, or Gylfir (all of whom Mark knows) are asking to be fleshed out more. That reminds me though that I owe some material for Gylfir, so that will be where I put my next energies.

Good gaming to all, its been fun.
