Once Rysky comes up with a character, we can start.
I honestly don't know if I have the resources to start this game before we're done with CoT, which is kind of what I assumed we would be doing anyway. I haven't really had the time to think through my character's fluff, which I still need to go over with Phoenix.
I honestly don’t know what to make or suggest.
Let me know if you want help brainstorming something. You were considering a frontliner earlier, right?

Ekije Ihejirika |

Well, there's all sorts of interesting stuff around the area. Maybe a wild elf barbarian or ranger from the Mwangi Expanse? Red Mantis from Ilizmagorti (perhaps a slayer or something of that nature)? Or maybe a pirate or something pirate-adjacent from the Shackles? That would be easy to tie into my character, at least, if you want some sort of a connection to someone at the start.
Of course, the premise leaves a lot of room to bring in characters from further north too, if that's more inspiring.

TheBobJones |

Rysky Are you familiar with the ship's final destination, Eleder, Sargava? If not, you might want to read the Player Companion: Sargava, the Lost Colony.
Beset by devil-binding pilgrims and inescapable debts to pirate lords, as well as generations of resentment from the nation’s subjugated indigenous peoples, the colony of Sargava remains a bastion of northern culture and civilization in the heart of the southern wilds. Once part of a vast and mighty empire long since fallen to dust, as evidenced by the crumbling ruins still lurking beneath the veneer of lush farmland and verdant jungle, Sargava’s rich landscape is home to fierce Mwangi natives and even fiercer predators of the deep jungle, as well as a dwindling population of northern colonials who seek to uphold their ideals of culture and breeding at all cost, straining against the tides of resentment that may soon sweep them into the sea and return the land to its original owners.
Chapter 1: Sargava, the Lost Colony presents an overview of the nation, its lands, and its people. In addition, Sargava plays host to numerous adventuring expeditions every year, and despite a few tenacious independents, most of these ventures are organized by one of four major groups: the Ivory Cross or the Pathfinder Society (both operating out of Eleder), the Gold Crown Shipping and Mining Company (out of Kalabuto), or the Rivermen’s Guild (headquartered in Port Freedom)
You could use one of the organizations like I did, possibly a dwarf that works for the Gold Crown Shipping and Mining Company (out of Kalabuto). Or be a Chelixian diabolist - or not :).
Why, he was practically destined to join the The Rivermen's Guild based in Port Freedom.
Or you could research one of the cities we could board from: Magnimar, Kintargo, Pezzack, Corentyn, Ilizmagorti, Ollo, Quent, Port Peril, Bloodcove, Senghor, and Eleder. I just read Nightglass and Pezzack seemed a cool city.
Hope that helps somewhat.

Ekije Ihejirika |

I don’t know.
Trying to come up with something but not used to these restraints, nothing really’s popping out, trying to think of a character that would be down there.
Just try coming up with something you'd like to play, and pitch it to DM RichD. I'm sure he'll consider it, even if it's not exactly within the given parameters.

DM RichD |

There are also NPC's that you can play until you settle on a character. Since it is a 'deserted' island, it would be easy to introduce your character at a later time.
Let me know and I can send you the stat blocks of them. you can play one or all or any combination....

DM RichD |

Hi All: I think it is time to start this thing up! I think once the group starts rp'ing it might provide some inspiration to Rysky.
Please complete your characters. Once completed feel free to RP about your time just before boarding the ship in the ports you are departing from (Based on your campaign character trait).
Please use this format in your profile tag:
Gender Race Class Level (HP Current/Max AC: Normal T:Touch F:Flat-footed Saves F R W CMB: CMD: Init: Perc: Your most used skill:)
For Example:
Male Human Ranger 4 (HP 52/52 AC:18 T:10 F:18 Saves F:+6 R:+5 W:+2 CMB:+7 CMD:19 Init:+1 Perc: +8 Survival +8)
@TheBobJones: Both characters are good, so go with whichever one you choose.
@Rysky: Feel free to jump in with either your character embarking at a port or even part of the crew (I don't remember and my PG is at home, but I want to say there is even a trait for the crew. I could be wrong though). If you don't have a character before you all get on the island, then we can introduce you there.

Ekije Ihejirika |

@Rysky: That's completely fine. No sense in playing if you aren't feeling it. I do hope we get to game together sometime in the future, though!
@DM RichD: I'll try to put on the finishing touches on Ekije ASAP, though I fear that I am quite busy until next week.

Munkustrap |

Should be starting soon!
I guess there is soon and then there is PbP soon ;).

Munkustrap |

I know the feeling. We adopted two new cats Friday night. Forgot they are nocturnal animals.

Kimye Enani |

I'm headed to PAX Unplugged in Philly for the weekend. I'll probably be offline until early next week. I don't think I'll have to get Kimye intro'd before then, so I'll try to get caught up and posting when I get back.

DM RichD |

@Munkustrap & Neltji: I have been informed by Kimye and Ekije that they no longer have the time available for this game. So therefore, what do you both want to do? Recruit more players and continue? Do another AP?
@TheBobJones: You are also more than welcome to join the Council of Thieves campaign I am running with Neltji (Tal).

Neltji |

Good for whatever. If we want to recruit we can but if Munk wants a different ap I am fine with that as well. I can keep my witch or switch to a gunslinger well even though I know we are shipwrecked to,start. Just means I have to be conservative with my shots.

Munkustrap |

Bummer. I always wanted to play this AP so my druthers would be to keep this one and recruit if you both are up for it. Neltji is a cool character.
Also thanks for the invite of CoT but I jumped in CC late and the game soon fizzled. I am also currently neck deep in both Kingmaker and RotRL so I don't want to overload my plate. With my current gaming schedule and this I am in my 'sweet spot'.

Neltji |

Sounds good then. I will keep my gunslinger on th shelve for some other campaign. Good with opening a recruitment thread then to start after Christmas more than likely? Or sooner RichD?

DM RichD |

Ok. It sounds like the consensus is to keep this going! I am assuming you both would like to go beyond book 1? If that is the case, then I will let you know that book 1 and 2 are very good, but book 4 and 5-not so much. Of course that is way down the road! :)
I will open up a recruitment thread at the end of December as I will be away visiting family and have little to none access to the internet.
Of course, you are both free and encouraged to recruit from your other campaigns, feel free to send them over.
I usually like to have 5 players so I can be evil. So I am thinking a healer, a front-liner, and a somewhat meleeish character.

DM RichD |

I just posted a 'recruitment' thread in my Giantslayer campaign, of which Neltji is apart of. Feel free to paraphrase the following in some of your other games if you wish:
I have a game that I need replacement players for. This probably won't kick until full swing until the beginning of the year, but if anyone is interested:
Serpent's Skull This campaign hasn't started yet. Have a witch and a rogue, need two fighter types and a healer.
Basic character creation guidelines:
- 20 point character buy. All scores 10 or greater after racial adjustments.
- Pathfinder Core Rule Book & Advanced Player’s Guide only.
- Two traits. One must be from the Giantslayer Player’s Guide. The other may be almost any Campaign or Basic trait from any Paizo book.
- Maximum gold for 1st level, maximum hit points all levels.
- Alignment. LG, NG preferred. CG, LN, TN acceptable. NO CN or evil.

Hi there, I just got invited here by Munkustrap from another game to come check out your recruitment thread. I'd be interested in joining you in Serpent's Skull. I'd prefer to make a character to fill one of your melee spots, as I have very few melee characters at the moment. If you like I'll give your characters, the player's guide and your submission guidelines a look through and have a submission ready in a few days.
Just a few clarifications:
- I see the guidelines says only Core Rulebook and Advanced Player's Guide is allowed, but there's a catfolk in the party. Are races from other sources allowed, or should we stick to core races? Is that guideline for feats as well?
- It says two traits, one from Giantslayer. Is that a typo that's meant to read one from Serpent's Skull?
Thanks!

Meloriel has asked lots the questions I wanted to! (and I come from the same game she does) Likewise I'm also interested in a combat character and a strange race. Specifally I'd like to play a Vanaran Monk - odd concept I know but SS seems like the campaign that its most likely to fit. (and the interplay between a cat and a monkey could be great!)
Linked question - Unchained Monk or normal? I can do either but Unchained fit the frontliner role a bit better.

Bill Dunn |

Playing Bormann Grimm in DM Rich's Giantslayer campaign
Thinking of this idea to fill a combat role - a big game hunter coming on board the ship in Bloodcove. Originally from Cheliax, possibly even having done some work for the Aspis Consortium. Neutral and a bit mercenary in outlook - trying to find a bit of wealth and the best trophies of the most exotic creatures. Has ambitions to lead hunting expeditions for people with too much money on their hands (and willing to pay an expert).
Probably looking at a ranger with the archery fighting style - since that fits the needs of a hunter well.
Hmm... I might even keep the same avatar art as I'm posting with here...

Munkustrap |

Yes to typo. GM is also recruiting for Giantslayer.
As for character concepts - just pitch something. GM is pretty lenient. Glad to see your interest!!

Nightfiend |

Hi everyone,
Munkustrap posted an invite in a different game, that we are currently playing together, that you could use a few more players. If that is still the case, I have room for a second game.
If the spots are still open, let me know and I'll work on a character concept and background. If they are not, I'll respectfully bow out.

DM RichD |

Not giantslayer. The 2 recruitments are council of thieves and sergeants skull
Yea, I have no ranks in proofreading! And if anyone is interested in COT...[Eyes Meloriel & Nikolaus de'Shade]
I see the guidelines says only Core Rulebook and Advanced Player's Guide is allowed, but there's a catfolk in the party. Are races from other sources allowed, or should we stick to core races? Is that guideline for feats as well?
-Yes, as long as the race isn't overpowerd, it will be allowed i.e. Adult Red Dragon, Hill Giant etc...
Likewise I'm also interested in a combat character and a strange race. Specifally I'd like to play a Vanaran Monk
Dang link is blocked at work, but again as long as it is not overpowering, it will be fine.
Linked question - Unchained Monk or normal? I can do either but Unchained fit the frontliner role a bit better.
I am good with either one.
@Bill Dunn/Bormann: Welcome! Your Big Game Hunter will fit right in (until you become the prey!)
So we have:
Munkustrap: Rogue (Skill)
Neltji: Witch (Arcane)
Meloriel: Combat (fighter)
Nikolas deShade: Monk (fighter)
Bill Dunn: Big Game Hunter (Archer Fighter)
Sounds like a good party! I can work without a dedicated healer if you all are good (unless Meloriel plays a cleric or Inquisitor).
If everyone is a go, please finish fleshing out your characters and dot or post in the gameplay!
As a caveat, I will be visiting family for the last two 1/2 weeks in December with no internet connection (a blessing and a curse!) So we can start and I can post when I can, but I have a feeling the holidays will interrupt posting for everyone as well. So if you are all good to start, and then slow for those two weeks, I am good as well.

I was hoping to play a Varisian woman from a travelling caravan who is more interested in the beautiful sights they come across in nature than she is the actual act of caravanning. She often stays behind to spend some time in the places they come across before hurrying to catch up with her family atop her trusty horse further along the caravan route. One day, after spending far too much time exploring a hidden cavern filled with beautiful crystals, she returned to her caravan to learn that her younger sister had gotten hooked a drug while passing through Magnimar and fell in with a gang of Sczanri. Her younger brother set out to get her back, but was wounded, and the caravan has been forced to move on without her. Despite her brother begging her not to leave, she heads off to Magnimar to drag her sister back home kicking and screaming if she has too.
Unfortunately, her sister told her to bugger off and the Sczarni she took up with chased my character off, threatening violence and worse. Knowing her horse would be a liability in the city she ordered her to find the rest of the caravan and, after her horse took off for the highway out of town, she ran into the twisted alleys and slums, looking to lose the gang hot on her trail. She did, eventually, but knowing she had few ways to get out of the city completely, she hopped aboard the ship in Magnimar, paid her fare with the crystals she picked up in the cavern and rode it south.
Knowing the Sczarni have contacts everywhere, she's riding the ship far away, in the hopes of disembarking somewhere in Garund until the attention shifts elsewhere. In time she hopes to reunite with her family, head back to Magnimar and give those Sczanri a run for their money!
I was planning on making her a two-weapon fighting ranger, but if someone else is going to do a ranger, I could instead make her a druid and be a healer. Either way I intended to make her very interested with nature, and the wilds, and a capable survivor.
She would be NG alignment, a friendly, happy woman, but burdened by guilt over being unable to save her sister, she's keeping to herself a bit more than typical, and she smile often turns sad, her gaze distant. She knows she can't get home for a while yet, so she's ready to be distracted by and wrapped up in whatever comes our way. She's particularly interested in beautiful sights, exotic locations, places of natural beauty, that sort of thing.

Caine Battaglia |

Thanks, DM RichD. I've settled on the name Caine Battaglia and will be finalizing my build tonight with HeroLab (which I don't have access to at work). And I think this icon will serve better than the Mynafee Gorse one I use as my regular login (though I do love pith helmets).

![]() |

CoT, hey? How far are you?
I happen to love that AP, but definitely need to point out before expressing interest in yours that I've GMed it all the way through. I can keep my knowledge separate and would enjoy joining in. If you're alright with that let me know what you're looking for and I'll give a character some thought. Presuming you're using all the NPCs provided as rebel characters, I'd really enjoy getting to make a relative of one of them or something. It depends on where you've taken the campaign.
Thanks!

DM RichD |

@Meloriel: We just finished book 2 and getting ready to start book 3. That is fine if you played it through. We currently have the following:
Tal (Fighter 3/Ranger 1)
Richard Holysmith (Bard Duettist 5)
Tal (Neltji) is an original cast member and the bard is a new recruit-so the field is wide open as far a characters.Yes all the NPC's are alive and accounted for so if they recruited you, their kin, to the cause, that is fine.
When I GM I usually play the AP as written. I figure Paizo pays people good money to write them, might as well play it. So bottom line, if you read the first two books, that is where we are, there is no homebrew in the campaign.
The discussion thread is here.

Munkustrap |

GM That worked out well. meloriel and Nikolaus de'Shade are excellent RPers. I know Nightfiend was a touch later than the rest, but is there any more room? I can also vouch for another great RPer in Nightfiend. Nikolaus de'Shade's better half is GMing RotRL for all of us and is doing a bang up job. I mean she did recruit me - so there is that ;). If you let Nightfiend in, it would allow meloriel to play the ranger, and Nightfiend to play a healer type if interested. GMs call as always.
Caine Battaglia aka Bill Dunn Welcome! Can't wait to officially meet you in character. Big game hunting seems a perfect fit.
Nikolaus de'Shade I am excited to once again play characters intertwined with you. Monkey and cat for sure! The others that dropped were going to play Tengu - cat and birds. Love these crazy party dynamics. Almost don't need an adventure.
