The naga doesn't have anything of interest on it, however, the cultists are carrying a fair amount of gear, some of which does indeed detect as magical.
Non-magical loot:
- Mwk light crossbow
- Light crossbow x3
- Mwk rapier x4
- Sap x3
- Black robes
- Gray robes x3
- Iron Razmiri mask x4
- Sunrod x8
- Thieves tools x4
- Smokestick x3
- Mwk light steel shield x3
- 134 gp + 6d10 ⇒ (4, 2, 9, 8, 3, 6) = 32 gold
Magical loot (it's all pretty common, so I'm assuming you could identify it without problem by now)
- +1 Studded leather x4
- +1 Light steel shield
- Potion of CLW x6
- Potion of CMW
While the group looks over the identifies the magic items the cultists had, Jaed checks the next door. He doesn't find any traps and the door appears to be unlocked.

Marzela |

Marzela takes the Masterwork Light Crossbow because she has been feeling ineffective at times, and thinks that having an option for a ranged attack might help.
She also encourages everyone to carry some healing potions, just in case she can't get to someone, since she has no more channels for the day.
Once everyone takes whatever they want, if anything doesn't fit in the bag of holding they found earlier, she offers to help carry the excess, or the sharp things that would harm the bag.

Carrakas |

Carrakas eyes the magical shield, but ultimately passes it over in favor of his trusted heavy shield. He does take a couple of the CLW potions, though.

Jaed Zandorias |

"Oh, there are only 4 robes and 4 masks. This lot does not look very smart so we could probably play that trick again," says Jaed while he picks one of the light healing potions and an extra kit of thieves tools. After what happened to my sword I should carry double of everything. Just in case.
"If you guys are done, we should continue," he says just before opening the door.

DM Puppet Master |

This chamber has high, vaulted ceilings, a simple stone floor, and unadorned granite walls. A large, 15-foot-square raised dais occupies the center of the room. In the middle of the dais rests a gray stone block with a grasping hand carved from the same stone rising from the center of the block. The hand is currently empty. The room is almost unbearably hot and entering is much like walking into a furnace. Luckily, it's not quite as hot as it was standing next to the channels of molten gold.
"Oh, you're here finally." An almost bored sounding voice calls out from the western side of the room. Turning your heads to look, you see a beautiful Elven woman, idly fanning herself with a simple mask. She looks annoying comfortable in the heat, devoid of even the barest hint of sweat on her brow. Though she lacks armor, she does have a beautiful curved blade hanging from her hip with an equally beautiful, rune-carved scepter topped by a ruby on her other. Around her neck hanges a simple, unadorned green agate that faintly glows blue.
"You know, you've been making quite the ruckus traipsing about the city. I'm a little surprised you didn't awaken every one of the Whispering Tyrant's undead minions and have them clamoring for your blood. But I guess that would be a little too much to ask for, wouldn't it? Nevermind though. I'm simply afraid I can't allow you to take the city's treasures for yourself. They've already been claimed." As she speaks these last works, she fixes her mask in place and draws her blade.

Jaed Zandorias |

"Good that we can finally meet, whoever you are. We would've come earlier but a bunch of guys with masks kept entertaining us. Now they are with their god or something." Jaed says as he moves closer to the Elven woman. "Would you join them?"
Sword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Sneak attack: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6) = 13 and bewildered, taking a -2 penalty to AC. The target takes an additional -2 penalty to AC against all attacks made by the rogue.

DM Puppet Master |

Jaed moves and slashes at the woman. It looks like he's about to hit when he blinks, and suddenly she's a foot to the right of where he could've sworn she was just an instant ago. The woman tsks. "I'm afraid if you wish to send me to Razmir, you're going to have to do a bit better than that. Here, let me give you another chance." She then moves away from the rogue. Provoking an AoO from Jaed
As she moves, she mutters a few arcane words until sticky strands of webbing shoot out of her hands to engulf the group.
@Everybody: DC 15 Reflex save or you're grappled. To break the grapple, you can spend a standard action to attempt a DC 15 Combat Maneuver check or an Escape Artist check. The bluish circular thing on the map is the web (hopefully it's not too hard to see both the squares underneath and the border), and it's considered difficult terrain. If there's at least 5ft of web between you and someone else, you have cover from them. If you have at least 20 feet of web between you and someone else, you have total cover from them. For more details, see the web spell
Party is up

Finnrick |

Finnrick Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Millsy Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Both Millsy and Finnrick are able to escape the webbing and Finnrick begins to cast a spell and Millsy leaps forward, but this time she gets tangled up in the web.
Millsy Escape Artist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Jaed Zandorias |

"Hey, don't run away"
AoO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
"and stop the tricks!"
Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Jaed then moves, with difficulty, next to the elf.
Double move. Rolling additional checks in case they are needed for the movement.
Escape artist: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
Escape artist: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

Carrakas |

Ref save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Carrakas quickly reacts to the webbing, managing to not get any of the sticky substance on him - an impressive feat, given his bulk! He then gathers in some energy, and attempts to use blade rush.
Unclear on whether or not blade rush still requires a combat maneuver check to move in web, since it ignores difficult terrain and normal obstacles you could move through. Leaving both, just in case. Please move me on the map appropriately. Also, I am assuming that Bull's Strength is still in effect (6 minute duration), but Ray of Enfeeblement is not.
CMB: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
After the blade rush had carried Carrakas only a short distance, an errant strand of the webbing lands on his armor, and somehow manages to stop all of the tiefling's forward momentum. He looks down at the webbing in disbelief, struggling with it, but the webbing holds fast.
The tiefling sails easily through the webbing, propelled by the earth swelling underneath him. He lands 5 feet east of the woman, and tries to bring his earthen hammer down on her back.
Attack, blade rush, flanking, PA: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 18

DM Puppet Master |

The cultist neatly dodges Jaed's second attempt at hitting her as she moves away.
@Carrakas: I think if it listed Acrobatics instead of Escape Artist to get around the web, you wouldn't have to make the check. Escape Artist makes me think of trying to blade rush through a small opening where you stand the risk of getting stuck due to size. On the bright side, I don't think the movement check comes in to play until you've moved at least 5 feet, which puts you in melee range of the cultist anyway (though now you're grappled). And yes, I think Bull's Strength is probably still up.
While many members of the party manage to avoid the initial blast of web, they don't fair quite as well when trying to move through it. Millsy gets stuck somewhere in the center as does Marzela. Jaed manages with some difficulty to duck and weave to get to the far end of the web. Carrakas charges close enough forward to swing at the cultist, but gets pulled up short, throwing off his aim as the Elvan woman nimbly dodges.
Taking a slightly different approach, both Lily and Finnrick choose to stay put and start casting rather than risk getting caught like their companions. As Finnrick continues to chant, the woman completely ignore Lily's attempt to frighten her. She has more than 5 HD (unless I missed something on Lily's character sheet that bypasses that limitation?) Just in case since it would affect her action: Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Chuckling as she watches everybody struggles through the strands of web, she backs up a step and begins casting again. The temperature in the room drops dramatically. At first it's a welcome change, but the relief is short-lived as hail and snow begin to fall and slam in to people.
Bludgeoning damage: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) + 2 = 12
Cold: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
Everybody takes: 22 points of damage (13, I believe, for Carrakas due to DR and cold resistance). Finnrick needs to make a concentration check (one check since it was one source of damage despite doing two different kinds of damage).
As the snow and sleet continues to fall, it makes the already difficult to traverse area even more difficult.
It's a little hard to see, but the red is the area of effect for the new current spell. Creatures in it take a -4 penalty to perception checks. Both areas are difficult terrain, and where they overlap, the penalty stacks. So if difficult terrain means 1 square = 2 squares, where they overlap 1 square = 4 squares.

Carrakas |

Carrakas gives a mighty heave, pulling against the webbing, and snaps right out of it pretty easily.
Standard action to break free. Marzela - note that it is an Escape Artist or Combat Maneuver check to break free, and your CMB is +7, much better than the +1 for Escape Artist.
CMB: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
He then concentrates for just a moment, grimacing in pain for just a second, before fixing his gaze on the woman. He then smiles, just a little.
Move action to activate tremorsense, and taking 1 burn to increase the duration to 6 rounds instead of 1 round. No miss chances for me!

Jaed Zandorias |

Jaed covers his head with his swords as the hail comes down, although this does not seem to reduce the damage.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch!" he exclaims as he takes a step fordward. Move action as I think one cannot take a 5 ft step in difficult terrain.
Escape artist: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Once next to the elf he attacks hoping not to miss again.
Sword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

DM Puppet Master |

Ice storm: 1 full round
@Marzela: I'm fine with you ret-conning that roll to a CMB instead of Escape Artist, meaning you are not currently grappled. You can also attempt to move, but I believe the double movement penalty means you'd only move 5 feet in any direction.
@Lily: Makes sense. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. :-)
It looks like the DC of Finnrick's concentration is 32 + spell level, so with a +11 to concentration, he can't make it.
Millsy Escape Artist (break free) DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Millsy Escape Artist (move) DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Millsy manages to break free and starts moving towards the cultist, but the web and icy floor vastly slow down her movement. Unfortunately, it does not look like Finnrick has been updating his character sheet with the spells he's used thus far, so I'm just going to have him try to move out of the difficult terrain.
Finnrick CMB (move) DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Annoyed that his mystery spell had failed, Finnrick gives a mighty pull, managing to rip through the web and finally escape it. He's so relieved he almost forgets about the raging ice storm and slips a bit, but manages to catch himself before falling.
Meanwhile, Lily fires an arrow at the cultist that clatters harmlessly against the stone wall above her head. Unfortunately, it's just close enough to distract Jaed's swing, causing him to miss the woman yet again. Freeing himself from the sticky strands, Carrakas watches and bides his time, smiling to himself.
Her confidence only growing as the group continues to be ineffective against her, the cultist woman once more steps backwards, making more arcane gestures. However, her armor gets in the way, messing up her spell. Because I apparently didn't read carefully enough when writing my initial description and she is actually wearing armor. Despite the picture in the module.
Party is up again

Marzela |

Okay, thanks. Being ungrappled will make a big difference.
Finally able to cast, Marzela casts Silence on Carrakas.
If we can also retcon that she started casting for her move action last round, after freeing herself, then it would go off at the end of this turn. If not, it will go off before her next turn. Either way, it consumes her turn.
Spell Details: Silence centered on Carrakas, so the 20-foot radius/40 foot diameter circle moves as he moves. If he chooses to resist the spell (unlikely), he gets a DC 15 will save to negate. Text of spell HERE. It lasts 6 rounds.

Carrakas |

Carrakas gathers up some energy from the stones around him, and once more tries to rush out of the sticky webbing.
CMB: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Though the webbing tries to take hold again, the sheer force of his bulk snaps past it as he goes flying out of the area of the spell and lands behind the woman, bringing an earthen hammer down on her back. Tremorsense still active.
Attack, blade rush, PA: 1d20 + 15 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 15 + 2 - 2 = 29
Damage, PA, bludgeoning: 3d6 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 5) + 7 + 4 = 19

Finnrick |

Is the ice storm still raging, if not he will attempt to cast the same spell again if not he will continue to move
Escape artist to move: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Millsy attempts to move and inches closer before being trapped again.
CMB if he is not casting: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
I also up dated my spells

DM Puppet Master |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I'm fine with the silence spell going off this round.
@Finnrick: You are still in the storm, but you'll notice you didn't take damage from it last round. However, you're also within 20 feet of Carrakas, so if the spell has a verbal component, you can't cast it.
Reminder that blue is the web and red is the storm. I switched the ordering on the map to hopefully make it easier to see the web. It's only the web that tries to grapple people.

Jaed Zandorias |

Can I take a 5 ft step from a square that is difficult terrain to one that is not? I searched online but it seems that there are different interpretations. I will assume that I can but if not, just consider only the first attack with a modifier of +11 (and the +2 for flanking)
Jaed takes a step forward and says a very intelligent and funny pun that unfortunately does not reach anyone's ears.
Right sword, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 2 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Sneak attack: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11 + bewildered
Left sword, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Sneak attack: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) = 10

Finnrick |

Well then, looks like Finnrick is drawing and loading the ol' sling-a-roo, why can't he use verbal components?

DM Puppet Master |

@Jaed: I generally use the square you're in to determine difficult terrain when dealing with borders. In other words, stepping out of a square with difficult terrain incurs the movement penalty rather than stepping in to a square with difficult terrain.
@Finnrick: Because Marzela cast silence on Carrakas. Silence prevents the use of verbal components and has a 20 foot radius. You are within 20 feet of Carrakas, so from where you are, you can't cast any spells with verbal components.
As Marzela's spell finishes, silence descends around Carrakas, engulfing all those around him. With a surge of strength, the tiefling charges forward, landing the first blow on the woman. Her face hides any reaction she might have from the hit as she turns to the warrior. Hoping to make use of the distraction, Jaed moves up behind the woman, but seems to bounce off an invisible barrier around the woman. Millsy tries to join in on the fun, but is once again caught in the web. Finnrick is about to try his spell once again when silence falls, so instead he pulls out his sling and loads it.
Lily still has her action. I believe she is currently outside the radius of the silence spell but inside both the web and the snow storm.

DM Puppet Master |

Lily continues to try to fire with her longbow, but the arrow simply get stuck in the webbing between her and the cultist.
Longbow attack, into melee: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 4 = 8
Still unreadable with her mask on, the woman shifts over slightly and strikes back at the one person able to hit her so far. Unfortunately for her, her attack is not as effective as the tiefling's.
Elven blade vs AC 20?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Party is up

Carrakas |

Carrakas takes a small step to the south, setting up Jaed for the flank. He gathers up some energy, and forms his regular hammer again, though a close look will reveal some sticky tar coating the surface.
Using kinetic blade with the Entangling infusion. DC17 reflex save or she is entangled. If she fails the save, it is also DC17 for the escape artist / str check to break free, or she has to deal it 12 damage.
Attack, PA: 1d20 + 15 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 15 - 2 = 32
Damage, PA, bludgeoning: 3d6 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1, 4) + 7 + 4 = 20

Jaed Zandorias |

Jaed takes a step forward and unleashes both swords.
Right sword, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Sneak attack: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) = 13
Left sword, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 = 21
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Sneak attack: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16
Seems Jaed does not want to/cannot hit the elf for whatever reason.

Carrakas |

With any luck, she is entangled for your hits, with the -4 to dex lowering her AC. Fingers crossed!

DM Puppet Master |

ice storm = 3 full rounds
Carrakas moves forward and lands another solid blow. He attempts to entangle the woman like she had done to most of the group with the webbing, but she is too fast and dodges out of the way, using her momentum to dodge Jaed's first strike as the second one once again bounces harmlessly off her invisible barrier.
Reflex DC 17: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Meanwhile from the other side of the room, a volley of ranged projectiles come from Marzela, Lily, and Finnrick. Unfortunately all the webbing and the still silently raging storm knock the projectiles asunder causing them to land wide of their intended target. Millsy bares her teeth in a silent growl as she struggles against the webbing holding her, but to no avail.
Longbow attack, into melee: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 4 = 13
Millsy break free: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Finnrick sling: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 4 = 18
For her part, the cultist draws the gilded scepter holds it high. It begins to pulse a bright red color that slowly engulfs her. Flames burst down arms and quickly spread to the rest of her body, which begins slowly expanding. In the silence it's unclear if the fire is hurting her or not. Jaed, Millsy, and Finnrick are shoved back as soon a huge fire elemental stands where the woman once was. Her fiery form catches the edge of the web on fire.
- The cultist is now a huge fire elemental
- The edge of the web currently overlapping the elemental is on fire and will start spreading to adjacent web (diagonal won't count as adjacent).
- Millsy got knocked free from the web and is no longer grappled by it

Jaed Zandorias |

Jaed eyes tells what his mouth can't when he sees the elf metamorphose into the fire elemental. Not wanting to be catch on fire, he steps out of the web
Escape artist: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
and attacks the elemental.
Sword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Carrakas |

"You gotta be kidding me..." Carrakas mutters in displeasure, taking in the sheer size of their foe. Shrugging his shoulders, the tiefling gathers his energy in once more, and forms his whip.
Attack, flanking, PA: 1d20 + 15 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 15 + 2 - 2 = 34
Damage, PA, bludgeoning: 3d6 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) + 7 + 4 = 21

Indileth Amaneldth |

"Really? This is just rude," huffs Lily.
I don't think I can beat the DR of a large elemental. I have two possibly useful spells left...
Lily waves her hand idly and a coruscating beam of energy fires toward the cultist.
Ranged touch attack, into melee: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 4 = 7
Ray of enfeeblement wasted.

DM Puppet Master |

39 + 1 + 16 + 1 = 57
Ice storm 4 full rounds
As Jaed attempts to reposition himself, the elemental slams heavily in to him, its flames burning and attempting to catch the man on fire. Somehow, despite the pain, he manages to land a blow on the creature, though it doesn't seem very effective.

Slam: 4d6 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 1) + 8 + (2, 6) = 29 You also need to make a DC 18 reflex save or catch on fire for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds. If you catch on fire, you take an additional 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 damage at the beginning of your turn. A burning creature can attempt a new save as a full-round action. Dropping and rolling on the ground grants a +4 bonus on this save.
On the other side of the creature, Carrakas continues to slam his weapon in to the elemental. He does quite a bit of damage but it doesn't seem as effective as it was on the Elven woman.
On the third side of the creature, Lily attempts to make the creature less effective at slamming in to people, but her shot goes wide. Marzela and Finnrick attempt to escape the web as Millsy attempts to take a bite at the creature and quickly regrets it before doing likewise.

Carrakas |

Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Carrakas grimaces as the firy creature slams into him. He tries to dodge away from the worst of the flames, but isn't very successful, and some of the fire grabs hold of him. He simply grits his teeth and ignores it. Instead, he gathers up his energy for another whip strike.

Jaed Zandorias |

Most memorable performance by Jaed in a fight ever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
After the attack, and facing a serious risk of losing his life, Jaed panics and tries to flee.
Withdraw action. Rolling for not getting entangled and to avoid the AoO.
Escape artist: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

Finnian Escape Artist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Millsy escape artist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Millsy has evasion, so takes no damage and breaks out of the web in an attempt to retreat.
escape to move: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Finnrick, meanwhile, is stuck with the flames approaching.

DM Puppet Master |

@Jaed: If you're referring to Kassen's boon, just remember that you need to choose to use it before you find out if your roll succeeded or not. Can you also clarify if you meant to move at half speed or full speed for the acrobatics DC? Right now you've moved 35/60 from the withdraw action (meaning if you meant to move full speed, you can move another square if you want, but you moved too far for it to have been half speed).
@Finnrick: Evasion doesn't apply here. The reflex save was to avoid catching on fire (which would have resulted in more damage at the beginning of her turn). She still takes the 7 damage from the initial burn. You should also actually move Millsy on the map.
Carrakas deals with catching on fire, choosing to ignore the pathetic flames as he continue slamming his weapon against the massive creature. He's definitely making a dent in the creature, but is it fast enough to save the rest of the party as many hurriedly attempt to get away from either the dangerous foe or the rapidly spreading fire?
Lily still has her action

Jaed Zandorias |

Ah, no, sorry. I literally meant the resiliency talent. Also, I was moving full speed but I was counting the cost of the movement based on the square I was entering. But now I remember that you said that you use the square you are in. In that case someone please move Jaed behind Millsy (I'm on the phone right now). Sorry for the confusion!
