Amiri Aesculus

That Diplomacy roll was meant to help with the Gather Info roll that Lem rolled.
Amiri answers, "Well, you've been runnin' yer mouth off about that Silverhex and it turns out that well... that maybe wasn't a good idea."
She scans the area around them, "I wouldn't be surprised if a pair of Vessels Between - what kind of name is that? - were to show up." She draws her sword to be at the ready.
Kyra, Cleric of Sarenrae

Gather Info: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Kyra looks at Amiri, often confused as to what that one is saying.
Vessels between what?
"So, tell us about your find."
Amiri Aesculus
|
Didn't you check the spoilers? I assumed Lem, with help, found all the information in the spoilers.
Gather Info or Know Local DC15+:The assassins of Daggermark are more affordable than other hired killers. They refer to themselves as the Vessels Between, as they take targets from life to death.
Kyra, Cleric of Sarenrae
|
Ha! No, I didn't read it because I only rolled a 9... it does make more sense now.
"If we are lucky, only the cheap assassin's will have been hired."
Amiri Aesculus
|
And I'm sorry - that now reads a little more harsh than I meant it to be, what I wrote. I guess I've played in a lot of games where it was treated that if one person made a gather info roll, then everyone was allowed to read the spoiler.
Amiri gives Kyra a firm slap on the shoulder. "With any luck, I won't find myself on the brink of death, right?" The barbarian guffaws at her joke. She then draws her sword and scans the area.
| DM Panic |
Yep, barring any roleplay where someone pops a spoiler and specifically says they keep the information to themselves for a reason, you can pop background spoilers like that once someone achives the result and suggests they'd share the info.
Ulisha gives the horizon an even more concerted look.
"Vessels Between?! Ugh, I'm certain they're on their way if you're saying word has gotten out that far..."
Ulisha takes a couple steps from her fire and gives the area another once-over.
"What do we do...? Can we set up an ambush for when they get here?"
Just as a reminder since it's been a while. You've been working to collect all the items for Ulisha to sell them for gold, which you'd then use to purchase Silverhex from her to bring back to the Society for research/study.
| Rah Pregen |
Ezren looks around warily. All the talk of assassins has created an itchy feeling on Ezren's back and has reminded him of a lesson he was taught long ago by an elderly wizard.
No matter how good the wizard, a knife between the shoulderblades will seriously cramp their style.
Getting out a scroll, he casts a mage armor spell.
"Is it prudent to be standing here like this? I mean, out in the open? That cave looks like a much better place to continue our chat."
| DM Panic |
Ulisha gives a nod to Ezren.
"I agree with Ezren, let's make ourselves ready. We'll tackle getting Silverhex to you guys once the Vessels have been dealt with."
Ulisha, based on Ezren's recommendation, makes her way towards the cave, leaving her campfire untended and burning in the dusk air.
If you're prepping, move your icons to where you'd want to be and let me know what preparations you want to make.
Amiri Aesculus

GM - the map isn't allowing me to edit, but I'd like to place Amiri at or near the mouth of the cave.
Amiri rests the flat of her blade on her shoulder. "Alright, let's set up in the cave. I'll stand at the front."
Lini, Iconic Druid
|
Lini searches the campsite and cave entrance for tracks with the help of Guidance. Droogami sniffs the air.
Survival, tracking: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11
Scent: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Ezren listens to Ulisha with a shrewd look upon his face.
"You have already made a camp. If the assassins are near, they have likely seen your campfire smoke. Let us draw them in with a decoy. Your cloak, pack, a bedroll, and some strategically placed extra clothes and perhaps some donated hair would make a suitable replacement. We place it there, as if resting beside your fire, and we watch from the darkness of the cave. Perhaps placing some light brush to conceal the entrance."
| DM Panic |
Ulisha is generally willing to follow through with any plan, so we'll just need to sort out which plan the party pursues. Once it's clear we have a majority opinion, I'll move forward with that.
At a tabletop game, I'd go round-robin through the PCs to sort out what you do next... so kind of try to effect that via PbP if you can.
Amiri Aesculus

"I think it's best we stay here. The cave is an easily-defensible position. Ezren, good call on setting up a ruse. We'll let the fire smolder to try and draw them in. We just stay ready..."
Kyra, Cleric of Sarenrae
|
"Do we know the cave is empty?"
I like the ruse idea, although I expect we may have already been watched, so I am not putting too much faith in it. Otherwise, Kyra is positioning near the cave opening behind the big rock.

"I think it's best we stay here. The cave is an easily-defensible position. Ezren, good call on setting up a ruse. We'll let the fire smolder to try and draw them in. We just stay ready..."
"Agreed."
| Pirate Pregen |
Lem easily agrees to the decoy plan and will set up the decoy.
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
After everything is nice and tidy Lem will hide behind the rocks with his sling drawn and loaded.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

With the decoy in place, the Pathfinders hide themselves in the cave. Howver, Amiri's heavy breathing and Kyra's insistence on kicking loose rocks out of her path seem likely to give away their position.
After only about a minute, Lem and Lini spot a pair of armed warriors making their way stealthily up the path. Even Ulisha seems to notice them as she whispers, "They're here!"
The further assassin (a2) appearst to be a halfling armed with a bow. The closer assassin (a1) appears to be a man armed with nunchaku.

A2 vs Amiri FF: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17 for 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Lem, every quick on his toes, begins casting a spell which draws the man armed with the nunchaku to close on his location. The smaller assassin lands an arrow in Amiri's shoulder (5 damage).
Ulisha, clearing her throat, begins an oratory about how the Pathinders will stop the assassins and soon gain Silverhex (inspire courage).

With Ulisha's inspiration, Amiri enters into a rage. She ignores the pain from the arrow (to the knee?) and moves to attack the nunchaku warrior.
Raging Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 1 + 1 = 8
Damage: 2d8 + 9 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5, 8) + 9 + 3 + 1 = 26

The halfling "sniper" slumps over, his bow skittering to the ground as he snores.
The brawler's nunchaku spins in a dizzying blur as he leans forward and pummels Amiri with it. Whack whack. A now unconscious, no-longer-raging barbarian lies at his feet as he scans the area for Ulisha before advancing worldessly to Lem.
"Where is the half-orc, halfling?"

Amiri finds herself on the ground, again. She tries to hold on to life!

@Amiri: Sadly, with Kyra healing after your init count, you'd need to wait until Round 3 to act. Don't forget your prone and have dropped your weapon from going unconscious, too!
The Pathfinders find success in ganging up against the man with the nunchakus as Harsk sinks a bolt into the man to accompany biting, clawing and halfling stabbing.
From his position on the ground (thanks to Droogami), the assassin works to club away the large cat and create some room for himself (8 damage to Droogami).
The man's efforts seem to almost be in futility as more Pathfinders circle around him, outnumbering him almost 8 to 1.
Those of you attacking, don't forget inspire courage! +1 to hit/+1 to damage from Ulisha!

Of course GM, all good - never hurts to ask. :-).
As Amiri comes to, she grabs hold of her sword and stands up. She then takes a 5-foot step to the brawler, "You're friend's asleep. You'll die."
Move action to pick up sword, move action to stand and free action to 5-foot step and speak a short phrase.
