Through gritted teeth, her voice a low growl, "Nadorhuan! I would believe Plugg capable of such treacherous design as poisoning us."

Even amidst the illness and Jiro's melancholy, Flynn is able to find a way to compliment her with a roguish glint in his eyes. With a low, throaty chuckle, "A! Only you could throw a compliment my way even with disease all around us, rwalaer."

Her mirth sobers quickly and she proceeds, "If anyone can procure a rare or limited item, it would be the short one, Dhaavan."

Was having dinner wiht the family, hence no posting... anyway

Flynn, you make saves for the disease every day to avoid taking the damage, and you need to make said saves for two consecutive days to get cured. So one save today, and another tomorrow would be how it would work, i believe.

Dhaavn takes the tools Jiro offers, "I'll see what I can do," Dhaavan says, giving Jiro a grin. I guess that shopping is what's on the agenda for tomorrow, eh?

"Hey, he says as Jiro walks off, "I don't know much about how yea can feel that somethin's wrong, but, well that's somethin, and I hope he's alright." Dhaavan seems to not quite understand what he is giving condolences for, but is at least trying.

DC 6 sense motive:

Bluff to look legitimately sympathetic
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Dhaavan's attempt at sympathetic eyes are tragically hollow and confused, as if he can't possibly fathom having a connection so deep that you can feel each other's wounds across such distances without some serious magic, and that is not what's going on here.
No there is clearly no real understanding coming from the young man, and he's so mystified at the intimacy of Jiro's connection to his brother that he cannot properly maintain a good mask of sympathy.
He does look sorry, but it's almost for not getting what he's supposed to be sorry for as what may be happening to Jiro's brother.

Rain, I'll make sure it gets around tonight. Don't worry.

Dhaavan finds a stopping point on the Tatt that he's working on, and seeks out Grok. He's tired and worn out, but figures he'd best get Flynn some herbs tonight if he can. Finding the quartermaster, and possibly Fishguts as well, to warn them about the Rat Problems.

"Oye, so we got a bit of a problem, unfortunately. Them rats that we killed off, looks like they may ha' been carrying a plague, cause a few of us what were fighting em and got bit are comin down with a fever. Now that Flynn fellow and Rain seem to got things sorted, but need some herbs and such, so I was wondrin if yeah could make a trade for these tools here ta get some medicines and such-not, yeah?" Dhaavan implores, hoping Grok will help him with this tonight if he can get her to.
1d20 + 12 - 6 ⇒ (13) + 12 - 6 = 19 I included the -6 cause of crafting, but if that doesn't apply here as he's not necessarily trying to change her attitude, then the check is a 25 so... pwetty pwease?

His eyes well with tears again as he contemplates the worst for a moment, but he rubs at them and wipes away the tears.

Realised Jiro. Thought I'd play it out in game -- my subtle nudge. ;) Enjoy your RL game tomorrow.

Rain nods her head, empathising with Jiro's tender feelings. She notices his tears but does not remark upon them for males seemed to be quite sensitive to such things and he had enough to deal with without embarrassment being added to it.

"If you need to speak about your brother after we have nursed and healed our mates, then seek me out, Jiro." Her voice is gentle, like a calm wave touching a shore.

With our combined heal checks, we should be okay.

"I hope those who are sick recover quickly... this seems to have come on very suddenly after the storm. I'm sure being wet and cold didn't help them fight off the disease. My mother was always a firm believer in us being warm and dry when we were sick. Not that I'm a healer... just saying what little I know." In hushed voice, "Flynn seems to believe that it may not necessarily be a natural disease but something sinister Plugg or one of his lot have concocted. Yet he won't know more until he examines the patients and determines the cause. I hope Dhaavan manages to get his hands on some more healing herbs. But you are right, Jiro. The tempest the last two days with its strong winds and hard rain certainly would not have helped with general constitution and well-being. I hope we uncover the reason for the illness soon, for a ship is not the place for rampant disease."

Thoughtful for a moment, "Variel had been asking for something to drink earlier. Perhaps we should bring the two below deck some water."

Horatio: You succeed at your rolls but it does not remove the damage already suffered. You need to make a treat disease check on each person for each day you are treating them. Each roll gives a +4 bonus to the next check only not to all checks for that disease. Normally you roll once per in game day to get rid of the affliction so in the future please only roll for the current day and we will roll again the next day as things can crop up during the day that may complicate or help the next roll.

To the GM: I just noticed this post. Yeah - my second "save" was really good. But even with a bad penalty to Con - say - dropping 4 points off my total save - I'd still make the save tomorrow. Anyway we can just keep that second save for tomorrow? Just let me know. Thank you.

I move over to Sko first - seeing how he is doing. The fact that such a large and powerful person is ill concerns me a lot; it would take a strong amount of filth to affect him, I would think. Seeing Variel is also suffering from this effect - I will do what I can to aid him as well.

It seems they are both suffering from the same condition. Considering the situation, I will aid Variel first; as he seems less hale, and Sko can wait a moment.

I shall accept the aid of Jiro for working with Sko - and from Rain working with Variel.

With no extra doses for my healing kit at this time, I am going to hold off on using the few doses I have left until tomorrow, and see how they are doing. The extra "+2's" are from the Aid Checks.

Treat Injury on Variel
1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 = 23

Treat Injury on Sko
1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13

Edit: Okay - it looks like Variel has a +4 to his Fortitude Roll to resist the Disease; but Sko did not gain that bonus at this time, though tomorrow may be different.

How'd you liise 4 points from your save? If you used the hour to rest so you weren't exhasted, you only took 3 con damage, so that's a -2 to your save right?

While I rolled both saves "back to back", I was not supposed to do that. I was supposed to make the second save tomorrow. However, today I made my first Fortitude Roll with some ease. Tomorrow I will have to make a second roll, by my natural 18 I rolled for the second save should be good enough already, though that's up to the GM.

But as I see it, the worst case scenario - tomorrow I don't make the Heal Save on myself. In addition to that - I suffer an extra 3 points of Con damage in the morning - leaving me at a total of 5 Con total (today I suffered 3, I only have eleven, and I may not get 1 point back tonight for some reason that has not happened yet, as a possibility).

This would mean that the next day - when I roll my Fortitude Roll again - if I had no bonus from Healing, and I had a 5 for Con (or really, -2 to Fortitude rolls) - then my total Fortitude roll would be 16; which would succeed anyway, because my second Fortitude roll was already an 18 when I posted it up earlier. For now, I'm assuming worst case scenario on purpose, just to say "but if it WAS worst case Scenario - the 18 I rolled for my second save would still have easily made it; given that the DC is a 12, and I would have gotten a DC of 16, if I subtract the penalty for low Constitution and assume my Fortitude was lowered to a -2, and I had no help from Healing Kits.

This is why I hoped the second roll would simply apply to tomorrow; to simplify things. But that is is up the GM at this time, but if anything bad happens to me tomorrow or tonight, my raw Fortitude roll should still be high enough to succeed tomorrow, assuming I am allowed to keep the roll. But we shall just have to see if I can keep it - hence my question above.

I put my gear down and clean it carefully as I talk quietly to Rain and Jiro.

”First things first,” I say with a flat voice, weary myself, and slightly frustrated.

”Unless the water is bequeathed by the gods themselves – or some kind of spell, if that matters – I want to have it boiled in the future. Not just for this work; but in general.”

I glance at the two.

”My uncle tells me that elven folk drink tea on the high seas – and easterners do as well, I’ve heard. This is not just for flavor; but boiling the water first kills vermin in it. The vermin can cause gut rot, and other problems. Bad water laying in half opened casks get infections, they spread into your belly – and, well – you know the rest…”

”Meantime, same thing is true with your teeth and hair. Keep them clean – at all times. Check your scalp for lice once a week; and check your teeth daily for stale food, preferably before you decide to sleep – sometimes a chunk of meat gets lodged in your teeth – then it rots. Never mind the stench, but the rot can spread into your mouth and gums. Then you lose your teeth – and the rot gets into your blood and your blood gets sick, and that’s a real problem. So stay healthy, stay clean – drink fresh water, or boiled water. And if you get the chance, eat plenty of limes, because you sure as hell don’t need scurvy, that can wipe out an entire ship, never mind your own life, and limes cure scurvy.”

With my gear cleaned, I rub my eyes a bit.

”It’s damn likely that Plugg would be involved in a little project like this. After all, who gives us the rum rations? Who makes sure that we are forced to drink the rum? And who among us have actually complied? I know I did recently – what about the others?”

”And hell, all Plugg needed to do is cut a bit of the rat’s ear, or other part of it, and slip the rotting flesh into our brew before we had to drink it with the rotting filth taken right into our bellies. Then, we die of the disease – no one is the wiser, and he’s not responsible.”

I growl at the entire mess of troubles.

”Meanwhile – who is the bloody basterd in charge of bringing the cargo on this ship? They should have checked what they were hauling in from the beginning. If that grain was meant for us; we’ll be hungry sooner then later. If it was meant to trade; the officers on this hulk paid good coin to ship grain, and then sell it someone else. How’s their coffers going to look when they get to their destination only to find out that the grain they’re planning on selling is eaten and rotten?”

”No pay means someone’s going to be right mad, and who suffers for such stupidity? I want it to be the right person, because I’m damned if I take the lash for another fool’s mistake.”

I look over at Rain and Jiro.

”For now, I have little to offer in the way of healing, except the few doses I got in my kit. I need more. I don’t know if they got ‘em on this scum bucket – but I assume that I get them. If they don’t have them – then I can make the bloody things. Aye – any of us can try.”

”It won’t be easy – but we can try to craft the hash ourselves; that is assuming they don’t have another dose. If you folk got nothing to do – want to try helping me craft some doses for a healing kit?”

FYI – this can be done. Anyone can attempt a “Craft Roll” as a straight Intelligence Check. The base DC is 15 – but this takes time, and is expensive. However – having already spoken to the GM about this before; (GM: Please correct me if I’m wrong here) If you elect to craft one “dose” – that costs you a total of 5 GP per dose (or 50 Silver Pieces for the Mechanic). You need to invest 1/3 GP for “materials” – in this case, they’re basically cloth wraps and a few herbs and things – not too hard to get; just “invest” the gold. In this case – 1 dose equals roughly 17 Silver Pieces you have to pay out of pocket.

If your Craft Check succeeds, multiply your total Craft Roll by the DC. That shows you how much progress you made in “silver pieces” per day. So if you rolled a total of 15 – and the DC was 15 (that’s what I was told it was before: 15, for a “High Quality Item” – you would have just got a total of 225 Silver Pieces worth of work done in a week. However – if you divide that number by 7; that’s 32 silver pieces a day. In two days you’d have completed 1 dose – minus the cost of the 17 silver pieces for the dose.

It’s not much – but if you have nothing else to do; crafting during your “down time” for healing doses can be pretty helpful. Just a suggestion. I will probably try doing that myself, if I can do it AND roll aid checks to Heal, but that’s up to the GM.

Seijiro seems to bristle a little at the lecture on cleanliness from Flynn and he goes about helping with the sick as directed without answering any of FLynn's lecture. He works silently and diligently, but inside he seethes a little.

Not like I need a lecture on cleanliness. I'd be clean if I could shift and take a proper bath. Not like there's enough water on this ship anyway for washing. And where are we supposed to get fire to boil water? He's asking an awful lot... but whatever... I do what I can and will continue to do so. Lecture or not, I'm as clean as I can be on this accursed vessel. My last berth I had a friend who could cast a spell to clean us... wish we had someone here who could do that... then we wouldn't even need to get wet.

When the night's work is done and the sick tended to, he collapses into his own hammock and curls up. I wish I had my tail to curl over me. Instead he pulls his blanket over himself and sighs softly.

Hijiro, I no longer feel your pain. I hope that means you are well and out of danger. You'd better not die on me. I need you.

He rocks gently in his hammock, not just from the movement of the ship, but added to in part by his own rhythmic rocking motion as he comforts himself from the travails of the day.

He remains awake a long time, rocking, listening to the sounds of the crew around him.

"Now in terms of boiled water, perhaps we can speak to the ship's cook, the one called ... Fishguts? She had heard the doctor's weary sigh. "I was not admonishing you as much as trying to ease your mind on the matter of our health", gesturing to herself and Jiro. "I would not see disease spread to us on this ship. Yet, no matter how clean one remains, sometimes it is inevitable due to close quarters and other poor conditions. I will be mindful, Flynn."

Looking at Sko lying in his bunk and then back to Flynn, "Should we disturb Sko now or wait until morning? Variel was seeking water early this evening. Do you believe the current fresh water clean enough for them to drink?"

"As for Variel? I would think that the water offered to him now won't worsen his condition at this point. He is as sick or healthy as his flesh will allow; stale or clean water probably won't matter at this point."

"And regarding the boiling of the water in the future," I say with a dry look at Jiro's bunk, then back to the beams below me.

”Feeling better? No – in truth – no.”

”I feel trapped – trapped by circumstances beyond my control. I feel powerless, and without any hope. I hate it, I hate that feeling more than I can express; and this darkness does not improve my body's health,” I add with a flat voice.

”I hate trying my best and failing; I hate doing what I can to succeed, only to see the results equate to nothing; I hate being under the heel of fools and other basterds who insist I follow policy and rules that not only make no sense but succeed only at harming me and everyone who works for them.”

”Aye – we are all harmed by the decisions of stupid men who we are forced to work for, and if we decide to quit for any reason, we’re lost. It’s work, or die – and we have no choice, it seems, but follow the decisions of people above us. And the crux of it is, that the piss-poor, poxing, sodding, god-rotting, whore-whelp of a decision may, may give those who tell us what to do a slight edge today; but in the long run it will likely destroy us all… Like this business about the rum rations – or any other stupid decision by a man who stands above me and and calls himself my "chief" or "boss" or what have you - he who would dictate my fate, and only cares about what matters for him, and no one else, gods rot him to hell,” I say, my voice a harsh growl.

”You know, I longed for the sea - to be free. To be able to see new things – new adventures over the next horizon as I sail with comrades to exciting destinations and see amazing things.”

”But this god's rotting little voyage,” I say with a glower at the decks of the ship ”has done none of that – I am a slave; and if I had the honor I spoke of – I should have already stepped forward and fought all who would keep me prisoner, killing them all – or dying in the attempt with some form of piss-poor dignity. But no, in truth, I don’t have that courage – instead, I cling to a life I hate, because the risk to escape it is too much for me to attempt.”

I look up at Rain.

”Apologies for the overly long speech – I know it sits darkly on the ears of some if my words run long, but I spoke what was in my heart. As for the medicine and aid? My thanks for any help you can offer,” I add, leaning back, my face grim as I consider my fate.

@Dhaavan: Shivikah looks at you and says with a weary expression Much as it shames me to admit it, my sweet predator. I am weary to the bone from the toils of the storm. Perhaps tomorrow when we are both better rested. She doesn't neglect to smack your backside on the way past though.

Samms and Sandara both are enjoying their tatts and have recommended you to several more on the ship. Giving you craft clients for the next few days.

When you speak of Besmara, Sandara smiles and says Besmara can be a fickle b$%!# but that's one of the reasons I send my prayers to her. She is a proponent of doing for yourself and helps those that help themselves...and I always help myself. I have found though that helping others tends to allow me to help myself.

Grok is near passing out from rum when you reach her and she says Sure no problem. She stumbles over and unlocks the trunk and gives you six doses in replenished supplies for the tools.

Eventually exhaustion overtakes you all and you wake up the next day feeling much better. The nights sleep has done wonders for your energy. Getting your breakfast you quickly choke it down before heading up on deck for roll call and your daily assignments. Up on deck the weather is beautiful with nary a cloud in the sky and a cool breeze upon the water. Gentle spray comes up from the bow as it slices through the water, the rearing dragon seeming to tear through the sea. Your names are called out and assignments given in short order.

Assignments:

Rain 1d6 ⇒ 6
Seijiro 1d6 ⇒ 4
Horatio 1d6 ⇒ 6
Variel 1d6 ⇒ 6
Valeros 1d6 ⇒ 4
Dhaavan 1d6 ⇒ 3

Rain is back on the mainsail with Seijiro on deck near her doing rope work. Horatio and Variel are on deck as well doing repairs from the damage the storm caused. Fixing lines and fixing on section of decking that broke away. Valeros is nearby hauling rope and doing knot work. Dhaavan is put to work nearby as well swabbing the deck with the heavy holy stones. Sko is below decks with Fishguts but since he is helping Fishguts with the cooking he is sent up on deck often to get supplies.

You all are in close proximity to each other and can talk during the day if you wish. Remember though that you are on deck and are around the rest of the crew.

Also I am going to post the duty checks on the campaign info tab in order to speed things up since you all pretty much know what the jobs are by now. So please look there for what you need to do and your DC's.

Shivikah:
Dhaavan gives her a toothy grin replying "Of course. I were pre-occupied with bein tired out myself thanks ta the storm. I'll likely be more fun for yea when i got a little more fight in me." He lets out a little growl as she slaps his rump, giving her a hungry look.

Sandara:
Dhaavan laughs at this. "I've always thought that about her, although i never tried trying to get on her side. Then again, I've got a few directions that I'm gettin pulled, and a pirate crew'd be a good place to line all that up, as it were, I figure, long as i don't get m'self killed too soon. I appreciate yer help with that already." he adds with a wink.

"By the way, you know Sejiro better'n me. That li'l redhead, and he been talkin about some kind o' somethin' happenin' wit' his brother. Twins they are, and I'm just a li'l concerned that his head gonna be out o' things over it. If he don't end up hisself soon, I may need ta get some advice on how ta help 'im out, if I even can." Dhaavan asks, helping himself by talkin about helping Sejiro. Not that Sandara is unconvinced of Dhaavan's character, but re-enforcement never hurts. Dhaavan's a good guy (sort-of). Honest, he is! =P

"Alright," Dhaavan says, rising and stretching out his back, "I've seen you around the mess and whatnot, but it's about time yea interduced yerself ta me, I think." he says with a smile, and extends his hand.

After she gives her name, he says, "Well, I'm Dhaavan, resident artist at this point, I'd say. 's good ta mee'cha." He looks her over for any ink-work done, and takes a moment to examine it if he sees any, commenting that she needs some if she doesn't have any. Depending on what she looks like he may take a moment just to appreciate her. he is a 17 year old charmer, so what would you expect?

Haven't seen anyone try to talk to Tilly yet, so i'm guessing her attitude is an oversight, otherwise he at least is doing some good marketing. I also haven't decided if i want to go for officers or hostile crew-men yet.

Variel woke in the morning still a bit groggy and having a sore throat. Breakfast was a struggle as the food seem to stick in his throat needing to Drink more than he normally does to wash the food down. Hoping that Besmara has mercy on him and does not require too strenuous a job today it is with relief that all he is doing is grunt repair work. The decking that broke off during the storm needed to be replaced, but the position Variel needed to work in allowed him to sit and take it easy some of the time. Seeing that Flynn is working on the same area but with the lines the close proximity makes it easy to whisper and not stress his sore throat. How are the others doing. I meant to stay up and talk with you but the weather, long days and nights, and this sore throat was too much. I needed that rest but still feel a bit off today. Ahem ahem. I suppose I just need another good night to put this all behind me.

As the conversation goes on, Variel thinks to himself, You know, maybe Flynn just needs to be shown how to relax and interact with others. That way he won't be so prjudiced against some of these people. They can be really nice sorts once you get to know them. Maybe this gal over there would be a good start.

Flynn remember when I told you to make nice and stop insulting people. Here I'll show on this lass. If we get along with people it's going to make everything ore enjoyable. Plus we won't hav to watch our backs all the time from someone trying to slip a knife in our ribs. Wish me luck. Ahem ahem

At this Variel make it an excuse to go over and grab the water pail for a drink bringing it back over to Flynn and a female human that he hasn't met with yet. Aretta You guys want a drink. After the last couple of days I am still dehydrated. Ahem ahem. This tickle in. My throat isn't helping matters any either. By the way, I am Variel and you are? Here you go At this Variel will extend the ladle to the woman. Hopefully she takes the ladle. How are you faring after the past 48 hours? That was quite a storm that blew up. Ahem ahem. By Besmara it was lucky that everyone was where they needed to be. Especially Flynn here. Dove right off the ship after Rosie. Not the brightest move maybe without a line attached to himself. Funny thing is, just the previous day he told some of us to tie ourselves off lest we fall in. Go figure. Ahem ahem. Anyways nice meeting you, but the deck is still needing fixing.

Hopefully that went well and I didnt make an ass out of myself and Flynn. Here's to Besmara that it worked.

The rest of the day Variel chats with everyone as he can but speaks softly to help his throat. The work itself goes easily and is done well enough for Plugg and Scourge's standards.

The first spell was Message and Variel hears the lad's voice in his ears, "So yea still hiding. I seem ta have made a show of things, and may as well take the heat for them birds. may take some heat off you, eh?"

Later in the day, while he's cleaning, Dhaavan'll use Prestidigitation to scour a surface if it is particularly dirty and hard to clean. He doesn't make a show of it, but doesn't bother trying to hide it, just gets his work done to the best of his ability, and since magic is one of those abilities, then he uses it.

Variel would notice that – during the day – Flynn has a rag, like a bandana, tied over his mouth and nose. Currently, I say little, but work on the repairs.

Hearing Variel’s comments, I respond, but speak in elven, my eyes ever watchful on who may be listening.

In Elven:

”For the gods sake, lad," I say with a somewhat exasperated sigh.

"You know, I never did insult anyone on this tub, except Plugg and his scum. I got no beef with them that were pressed on like us, or them that did us no harm – and any time you heard venom in my voice it was directed at those who stole our freedom and gave us the lash.”

I glance at him, thinking a moment about Plugg.

”And hell, you don’t really mean to tell me that you think that the men who took you by force, robbed your freedom, and treated you like a slave isn’t worth at least a few hard words, do you? I ask with a quirked eyebrow, somewhat rhetorically.

Even so, my tone seems a bit lighter, and my attitude more pacific then it had been before. It's clear that I'm not trying to cause issues; but I am still unhappy at my current position as a pressed man. Further, my poor health is not helping me, either.

I glance up and nods at Aretta, greeting her with a casual, but courteous wave.

”Morning, lass – beg pardon, but I be feeling poorly, hence the rag,” I add, my voice sounding a bit raspy, and I continue with my work.

Rain works on the mainsail and has grown accustomed to the hard labour and it becomes second-nature.

It is good to have her mates close by during the day, especially Jiro who is nearest to her undertaking rope work and within speaking distance.

In a low voice, she answers his question, "No, I did not have the dream last night, Jiro. After I finished helping Flynn, I cleaned up and went straight to my hammock as it was late and I was tired. I did not pray to Gozreh before I went to sleep. And the god was silent." Rain pondered the thought privately.

He was concerned that the disease would spread and hoped to save us from it. He did not realise that in his haste to get his message across that it seemed he was insinuating we knew no better. He's smarter than that, Jiro. My directness with him last night was my effort at getting him to see how his words came across and he caught onto my meaning sure enough. He has led a complicated life from what I have heard of it and works hard at what he knows best. I do not see him as mean-spirited. He may need some work on the delivery of his messages, aye. Valeros climbed up to the main deck with the rest of the crew and enjoyed a brief pause in the cool day air. It was a lovely enough day but it did mean he would need to worry about his skin this evening. At least the storm had made that an easy chore to ignore.

Hearing his duty assignment, he quickly set to work hauling lines. After a few hours of that his shoulders had built up a nice sore ache of a consistent job and he took a short break to grab some water from a barrel. Moving up to grab the ladel he bumped into the large Rahadoumi man who gave him a dark look. Watch where you're walking maggot.

Valeros gave the man a nod and held the ladel forward. No need for that. Take your fill and I'll go after. Don't want to dehydrate while you're up in the ropes, that's for sure.

"I guess he means well, but he sure does lecture a lot. Sometimes it just gets under my skin. I'll try not to let it, but it's hard. Instead of all of us trying to adapt to him, maybe it would be easier if one person adapted to everyone else?" He grinz, then goes back to work.

remember, Seijiro's only 17 and doesn't like to be treated like a child... kind of a sensitive point.

During the day I will attempt to sway the attitude of this Aretta person that Variel had talked to.

Hmm.... She seems hostile to us, but perhaps with a few polite words, perhaps she can change...

I can ret-con social RP - but I'm running late for work. Hope the dice roll does well in the meantime.
