Kalam and Ceinwynn struggle to overcome the creature's pasty hide but Abramov and Halsanna manage to land two more grazing wounds.
Recognizing that the wily doctor's magical protections are too tough to overcome, the monstrous creature lunges for him instead.
Grapple: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Abramov gets an AoO.
The other trudges through the sewage to stab at Ceinwynn.
Stab: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The party is up.

Abramov |

AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
If it is a hit, Abramov's CMD goes up from 18 to 20 - not enough to avoid being grappled.
The doc was caught in the savage embrace of the beast. Adapting a more or less defensive posture - for whatever it was worth - he stabbed away at the creature.
-2 to hit for being grappled, -4 dex (effectively -2 penalty) for being grappled and for a total of -4 to hit. Add another -4 for fighting defensively on top of that, and the to hit is at a +0. Netto result is that Abramov's AC remains 24 and his CMD is 18.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Kalam Sayros |

Casting a worried glance past Ceinwynn at Abramov's predicament before returning to the situation at hand. Drawing his rapier and lunging cleanly at the nearby creature in one smooth motion.
Move Action : Draw Rapier
Standard Action : Lunge at S1
Rapier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Ceinwynn Davenport |

Ceinwynn drops her whip and draws her sword. She attacks the one on her.
Masterwork Elven curve blade/Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

DM Feral |

The monster wrestling with Abramov holds him still and latches onto his shoulder with its monstrous maw.
Grapple for Damage: 1d20 + 8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 5 = 17
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Fortunately, the good doctor proves to be a wily target and wriggles out of his grasp.
The other hisses in frustration and stabs at Kalam.
Stab: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
The party is up.

Ceinwynn Davenport |

Masterwork Elven curve blade/Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ceinwynn 5ft steps and attacks the one on Doc.

Kalam Sayros |

Where are you moving to? I don't think you can 5ft step into the sewage Ceinwynn, likely takes a move action and there's no room between Abramov and the other enemy.
Kalam hisses in pain as the spear bites deep into his leg, thankfully missing any major arteries though. Pulling himself free of the spear he growls at his attacker, "I swear you'll be sorry if I get sepsis you miserable bastard!"
He punctuates the statement with a hard lunge that unfortunately fails to find it's mark.
Standard Action : Lunge at S1
Rapier - HG: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Not that that's going to hit but do we get the bonus from being on higher ground given that the thing is down in the sewage?

Abramov |

Abramov maintains his defensive posture, but he seems to be rather intimidated by the creature's ferocity.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
AC: 26 (5 dex, 3 armor, 2 natural armor, 4 shield, 2 fight defensively), CMD 20.

Halsanna Firdraes |
With a clear shot, perhaps.. Also, I'm hesitant on expending all of the arrows in the quiver in this fight
Sighing, she sighted evenly on the creature that was currently engaged with Abramov, and fired again.
_______________
Attack+PBS: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26, Confirm?: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14, 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Kalam Sayros |

Batting aside the creature's attack, Kalam does his best to finish off his opponent before things get worse, "Come'on now, I believe we have company coming. It would be rude to be previously engaged when they arrive."
Standard Action : Lunge at S1
Rapier - HG: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

I'm on it!
Masterwork Elven curve blade/Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

DM Feral |

Delivering two more shallow wounds, Halsanna and Abramov manage to fell one of the hideous monsters. It continues to claw at the good doctor’s ankles even as it lays dying.
Kalam delivers a solid blow to the other but fails to bring it down.
Frustrated and wounded, the monster drops his weapon into the sewage and attacks with his claws.
Claw vs Kalam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Claw vs Kalam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
The party is up.

Ceinwynn Davenport |

Ceinwynn brings her blade back swiftly from her previous miss and attempts to slice the creature.
Masterwork Elven curve blade/Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Kalam Sayros |

Kalam sags visibly as more of his blood splatters on the filthy floor. To drained at this point to comment in response he merely grunts and makes a desperate lunge at his attacker.
Standard Action : Lunge at S1
Rapier - HG: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22 Much better, that should do it!
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Presuming that does it :
Kalam breathes deep as the monstrous creature drops back into the sewage. he leans against the filthy wall exhausted, "Could use a little patching up. Quickly, before those footsteps materialize into something else that wants to kill us..."

Abramov |

Frantically the doctor stabs away at the dying beast, hoping to end its sick and twisted life once and for all.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 .. not counting the prone bonus/penalty and whatever not.
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Halsanna Firdraes |
Glad that things were over for the moment, Halsanna took stock of her remaining arrows, and was not pleased. If she went into the sewage to try and retrieve any of the arrows, she may have more, but at present, there were nine arrows left in her quiver, and given the way that the fighting has been going, she was fairly certain that she was going to run out of arrows before this day was out. This was not good.
"Nine arrows left", she told the others quietly, and sighed as the footsteps hastened closer. These nine shots would have to count, though she hoped that if they were hostile, one of them was carrying arrows. It was looking very possible that she would be testing the knife drills that she had been forced to memorize.

Abramov |

The doc puts away his scalpel and proceeds to bring forth two vials of acid, one for each hand. "We best take position.."
Can we hear where they're coming from - left, right or straight ahead? I'll make a perception check just in case.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Abramov |

Abramov flaps open his coat, presenting the wand to Kalam. The wand of cure light wounds, of course.
Say we get caught mid-healing, I can at least react with two acid vials and you can drop back.

Kalam Sayros |

Kalam nods to the doc with real gratitude on his face. Taking the wand in hand, he begins to recover from his wounds.
CLW - Round 1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW - Round 2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW - Round 3: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Mostly recovered, his last act is to stuff the wand into his belt next to his flask as the new opponents round the corner.
Do you want to swap places Ceinwynn? Kalam has the better AC of the two of us?
Do you not have a second quiver Halsanna?

Kalam Sayros |

Kalam eyes the advancing creatures, acutely aware of the tingling sensation still coming from his recently healed wounds, "Not enough in every tavern this side of the inner sea...I think it may be time for a tactical retreat?"

Kalam Sayros |

Kalam huffs slightly as he watches the creatures retreat back into the sewers, "Well at least we have a decent idea of where the damn thing is...getting to it is going to be a little more difficult."
Taking a quick sip of his flask, he looks around behind him, keeping an eye on the riots and watching for threats.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Kalam Sayros |

"Indeed, any brilliant ideas? I bet the crossroads have maps of much of the sewers, we could try to locate an alternative entrance, hopefully one will be less well guarded? Or professor might also have some ideas as to what sort of monstrosities our murderers are employing? Maybe they have a weakness of some sort...other than multiple stab wounds?"

Kalam Sayros |

"Afraid I'm fresh out my dear. Lots of creatures on this earth dislike the light do alright if forced into it. I think mirrors might be more trouble than their worth. At any rate, we need to regroup, we'll get no planning done amidst this mess. Come'on"
The crossroads it is, unless anyone has an objection?

Halsanna Firdraes |
"Considering what we're being fielded into, I'm going to get another quiver-- Hadn't expected to run into this much opposition in an investigation." Thoughtful, she amended her statement. "--perhaps some oil as well. They may not like light, but fire would serve as damage and deterrent." Mulling over the recent events, she headed out and back to the crossroads with the others.

Kalam Sayros |

Kalam strides purposely, "I can handle the light, I'd suggest some alchemist's fire if that's what you want? And yes, I'd think an extra quiver might be practical. Honestly my dear, for someone so preoccupied about being prepared, one quiver seems dreadfully shortsighted for a girl so committed to her bow.", he winks and takes a sip from his flak before offering it to Halsanna as well.

Halsanna Firdraes |
Halsanna snorted in amusement and took the flask from Kalam, raising an eyebrow at him. Matching her pace to his, she voiced her thoughts. "There's a difference between 'I am skilled with a bow on the field', and 'I'm walking into crazy, better bring a few extra quivers. I'd hate to run out of arrows before the killing is done'." Lifting the flask to her lips, she paused, raising it in a toast.
"To the dead", she said solemnly. A bit was poured out for them, and then she took a sip, passing it back to Kalam. "I am quickly learning to expect something several steps beyond a rational expectation on these tasks. What were those things, by the way?"

Kalam Sayros |

Kalam hastily takes his flask back, mildly exasperated, "If the dead are thirsty they should have drank more while they were alive..."
Tucking it back in his belt he smirks, "See, that's the very problem with military training. It's all marching and boot polishing, does little to prepare people for the glorious crazy of the real world. Given our brief experience with the Aspis thus far, I'd suggest always assuming our assignments include a healthy dose of crazy.", he grimaces, "Honestly, no clue what the hell those things were, certainly not undead...I'd wager something to do with the runewell. Hopefully our friend the professor will have some ideas."

DM Feral |

Despite the bedlam tearing through Magnimar up above, the Crossroads is mostly business as usually. A few more agents than usual can be seen moving about the Aspis complex, tending to assignments or running errands.
It doesn’t take long for the party to find their way to Zelda’s office. The Aspis matron greets the team with her hands forming a familiar steeple. ”How goes things up above? I’ve heard it’s become quite a mess.”
