It seems we're losing momentum a bit (mostly my fault) so I'm going to make Odol's stealth check:
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
You creeps forwards through the forest towards the north-east corner of the ruin. Vhailor takes point; seveal times he ushers the more heavily armed party members into cover just in time. Eventually you reach a hollow in the ground just to the north of the ruin. From here, you can easily strike at either the front gate or the exposed corner of the facility. As the rest of you watch the guards carefully Salvin begins the process of arming himself.
Luckily for you the guards seem overly confident in their patrols. This allows you to take 10 successfully. In a couple of minutes you are ready to make you attack. Due to the margin with which most of you passed the stealth checks, I will allow you to move on from either the top or left hand sides. Treat your character as starting in any of the half-squares on the edge of the map, and move from there.
You don't get a surprise round, but I will be placing the guards at the bottom of the initative chain to represent your co-ordinated attack. The initative sequence is:
Salvin Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Odol Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Gregory Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Vhailor Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damrang Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Wow. Good thing I had the guards go last.
Initiative Sequence
Odol
Gregory
Salvin
Vhailor
Damrang
Guards
Looks like we shall need to wait for Odol after all. Note that you have as many rounds as you need to cast buff spells before launching the attack - I suspect you'll need all the help you can get in this fight.
Odol Nightshard
My apologies. Took my eyes off things for a couple days, but I'm back.
Buffing: Casts Lead Blades, Shield of Faith and Magic Weapon.
If no one has an alternate plan, I'm going to plan to attack from the north and move to B1 to attack the adept in B2. Can Odol get to B1 and attack in the same round? I know I won't be able to charge because of the blockade.
Odol Nightshard
Already then, I hear no objections so off we go...
Round 1
Status
AC 19, touch 12, flat-footed 19 (+5 armor, +2 shield, +2 deflection from Shield of Faith (2 minutes))
hp 18
Buffs Lead Blades, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon (all 2 minutes)
Odol springs from the wooded cover (to B1) swinging his battleaxe at the closest adept (B2).
Attack 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23
Damage 2d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8, 4) + 4 + 1 = 17
Gregory Leichardt
Whoops! Sorry guys; I somehow missed that it was my turn :-/
Round 1:
18/18hp, AC 15/11/14, CMD 16, Bless, Guidance, Magic Weapon.
Gregory rushes forward, and takes a powerful swing at one of the Adepts.
Reaching D1, and taking a swing at the one in D2.
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 27, for 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 + 1 = 17 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 24, for 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 + 1 = 19 ADDITIONAL Magical Bludgeoning damage.
EngineHouse
There is no battle cry as Salvin and Gregory run from the treeline moments behind Odol. The only sound is that of rending flesh and splintering bone as the three warriors half leap, half crash through the barricade and slay it's hapless defenders.
Vhailor and Damrang are up. Remember you can 'deploy' anywhere on the top or left hand edges
Vhailor Falk
Vhailor struggles up over the barricade with a scroll in hand, reading from it as he lands on the other side "Stries chemin de lumière, une explosion en vue" and as the scroll disappears from view, two tiny luminescent dragons begin circling around his right hand. He watches them for a moment, a look of glee upon his face.
Move to A,3 - then cast Snapdragon Fireworks from my scroll.
2/2 dragons remaining, spell lasts for 2 more rounds.
Odol Nightshard
Round 2
Status
AC 19, touch 12, flat-footed 19 (+5 armor, +2 shield, +2 deflection from Shield of Faith (2 minutes))
hp 18
Buffs Lead Blades, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon (all 2 minutes)
Perception to listen for reaction 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
"Let's keep moving and hitting them before they have a chance to rally."
Odol moves the rest of the way across the barrier and then begins moving parallel to the wall.
Double move to I2
Salvin
What sort of action is needed to get over the barricade? Is that two squares of movement or is it a move action? I'm asking because Salvin will need to climb over two walls to continue deeper into the facility and I want to get his movement correct. He wants to get as close to the enemies in the upper righthand corner as possible.
EngineHouse
moving from one side of the barricade to the other requires 10' of movement. It is hence not possible to charge over it unless your target is standing right on the other side.
Also, the adepts haven't taken their actions yet. I seem to have lost the map (d'oh) so it'll take until this evening. Wait until they've reacted until you declare your actions (Odol's will be fine).
EngineHouse
As you smash your way into the north-western corner of the keep the rest of the adepts spring into position behind their own fortifications. Blue spell-light flares across the barricades before you as a volley of star-like magic missiles are unleashed.
It seems the adepts are targeting the most heavily protected members of the party with the armour-piercing evocations. The d100 roll is for spell failure; each adept fails on a 15 or less:
Adept Q2 vs Odol: 1d100 ⇒ 15 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Adept Q3 vs Odol: 1d100 ⇒ 6 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Adept S4 vs Odol: 1d100 ⇒ 96 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Adept L12 vs Salvin: 1d100 ⇒ 64 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Adept K13 vs Salvin: 1d100 ⇒ 33 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Adept J14 vs Salvin: 1d100 ⇒ 61 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
3 damage to Odol, 12 damage to Salvin. Shaken by the carnage nearby and hampered by their armour, two of the three adepts targeting Odol botch their spells leaving just one pellet of force to punch into his thigh. Salvin doesn't fare so well - all three of the spell-shots punch into his chest or stomach. Faintly glowing holes in his armour which are soon cooled by blood.
Map at the start of turn 2 once Odol has moved.
Salvin
Round 2 9/17 HP, 17 AC, 17 Flat-footed, 10 Touch, 14 CMD, Bless
Salvin stumbles as the magical bolts pierce his flesh, then quickly tries to scramble over the walls to stand behind Odol at H2. Then he quickly touches his chest to heal his wounds.
Lay on hands 1d6 ⇒ 4 Two uses of lay on hands remain
Vhailor Falk
Round 2:
Seeing the bunch of adepts before him Vhailor briefly considered the scroll that made the flamme de gloire that he had recovered from the adepts... but he figured it would be best to save that for a special occasion. He moves forward and pointed at one of the distant adepts with his right hand. The little dragon upon it raced off towards the man and blew up in his face with a cavalcade of green sparks...
Move to E,3 and shoot fireworks at S,4
Reflex DC 11, or 1d4 ⇒ 1 and target dazzled. Successful save for half damage and no dazzling.
Just realised there would have only been one dragon as the scroll is at 1st level. So now have none left.
Gregory Leichardt
Round 2:
18/18hp, AC 15/11/14, CMD 16, Bless, Guidance, Magic Weapon.
Barely giving the three fallen Adepts a second glance, Gregory continues to pound forward...
Double move to L2.
EngineHouse
See most of the enemy closing with them, the adepts in the northern barricade begin a fighting retreat, scrambling over the barricades away from your oncoming attack before turning to shoot at Gregory with their light crossbows. They are joined by a third Helix trooper firing from amongst the ruins of the keep. Unfortunately for them, the same barriacdes protecting thme from being charged also screen Gregory from view.
Adept T2 attack vs AC19 (cover): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Adept T3 attack vs AC19 (cover): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Adept N9 attack vs AC15: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Adept N9 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
The two firing over the barricade rush their shots and the bolts fly harmlessly over Gregory's head. The one firing from the keep, however, scores a painful hit. Near the corner of the keep, the adept Vhailor struck with his spell blinks to try and clear his vision whilst holding his hands ready to begin gesturing.
Meanwhile, the three holding the southern ruins fire at Vhailor. There are obviously fully aware of a damage a spellcaster could cause, because the barricade the gnome hides behind makes the shot difficult:
Adept L12 attack vs AC16 (cover): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Adept K13 attack vs AC16 (cover): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Adept J14 attack vs AC16 (cover): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Vhailor proves an elusive target amongst the heavy boards and rubble, and only one bolt finds it's mark
Adept L12 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Reposting the initiative chain:
Odol
Gregory
Salvin
Vhailor
Damrang
Guards
Remember: moving over a barricade (from O2 to P2 for example - they're marked by red lines) uses up 10' of movement rather than 5'. This means that if you are next to a barriade with only 5' of movement remaining you can't cross it. Furthermore, the barriacdes cannot be run, charged or 5' stepped over.
Gregory Leichardt
Round 3:
14/18hp, AC 15/11/14, CMD 16, Bless, Guidance, Magic Weapon.
Gregory charges forward, his Earthbreaker seeking out the one foe he can actually reach at this time...
Moving to N8, and taking a swing at the Adept in N9.
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 21, for 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 + 1 = 17 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
Odol Nightshard
Round 3
Status
AC 19, touch 12, flat-footed 19 (+5 armor, +2 shield, +2 deflection from Shield of Faith (2 minutes))
hp 18
Buffs Lead Blades, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon (all 2 minutes)
Vhailor can't take another volley like that. Better get their attention.
Odol shifts his attention to the southern barricade and runs between the walls of the ruins. Double move to K11
Vhailor Falk
Round 3: 0/12 HP, staggered
Vhailor's gleeful look is rudely interrupted as a quarrel buries itself in his chest to the fletching. He is unable to even cry out as the very breath in his lungs is expelled with force. Drawing in a racking breath he is then coughing with a mouth suddenly full of blood. Vhailor spits a gobbet of red spittle onto the ground and whimpers. Raising his eyes towards the source of the bolt his face is devoid of it's usual playfulness and his eyes are afire with intent.
Drawing one of the Adept's scrolls from within his robes he starts chanting as more blood spills from his mouth running down his chin and spraying in a fine mist before him "La flamme brûle ma revanche dans votre CHAIR." dropping the scroll and pointing with a finger as he finishes the arcane words.
A small bead of living fire sprays out of the proffered finger and streaks through the fortifications towards the entrenched Southern group of Adepts. Weaving in and out of the barricades it seems to almost miss before erupting in a roaring explosion of flame just behind the Adepts. At the sight of the flames springing forth Vhailor smiles... he wavers in position for a few moments with a glassy look in his eyes before crumpling like a sack of potatoes to the ground.
Using the Scroll of Fireball, aimed at K,15.5 (should just miss Odol, but leave his beard singed :P )
Caster Level Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 - success
Ranged Touch (if deemed necessary): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 4, 1) = 16, DC 14 Reflex for half
Take 1 damage from using a standard action, putting me at -1/12 HP and down
Damrang Flintforge
Round 3
HP = 21
AC = 18
Weapon Equipped = Dwarven Waraxe
Status Effects = None
Seeing Vhailor go down buck lacking an immediate means of helping him, Damrang instead moves towards the three southern acolytes.
"Help the little one, I'll distract these three."
Double move to K11
EngineHouse
Reflex save for L12: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Reflex save for K13: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Reflex save for J14: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
The adept at the centre of the fireball falls to pieces as his flesh burns to nothing. The other two stagger backwards, badly burnt and with clothing burning.
One of them (K13), clearly on the verge of death, raises his hands and with his last breath utters an incantation.
Spell failure on a 15 or less: 1d100 ⇒ 4
Seething colour builds in his grasp but then his knees fail and he slumps down. He fumbles, and the fledgling spell disappears in a puff of smoke. His last strength exhausted, he slumps into the dirt (standard action whilst on 0HP causes unconsiousness).
As he falls, however, his friend (also burnt almost to death) steps over him (5' step from L12 to K13 and begins to do exactly the same thing:
Spell failure on a 15 or less: 1d100 ⇒ 53
He manages to complete the casting before falling and a blast of colour sprays over Damrang and Odol. A moment later he falls, a grimace of triumph on his ruined face.
DC13 will saves to avoid being unconsious, blinded and stunned for 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 rounds
Meanwhile, Gregory slams his earthbreaker in the chest of his target in the ruins, brutally killing him like so many creatures before.
In the northern corner of the ruins, the three surviving adepts climb back into their barricade and reload their light crossbows.
Gregory Leichardt
Round 4:
14/18hp, AC 15/11/14, CMD 16, Bless, Guidance, Magic Weapon.
Nodding in satisfaction when the Adepts go down under Vhailor's Fireball, Gregory is a little alarmed when the Gnome falls unconscious.
"Someone should do something about that..."
He then hurries forward to engage the remaining Adepts...
Double move to P2.
Damrang Flintforge
Round 4
HP = 21
AC = 18
Weapon Equipped = Dwarven Waraxe
Status Effects = None
Damrang heads back to Vhailor.
Must make sure the little one is alive!
Apologies, missed that it was round 4.
Round 5
HP = 21
AC = 18
Weapon Equipped = Dwarven Waraxe
Status Effects = None
Vaulting the barricade, Damrang checks on his fallen companion.
Heal 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
EngineHouse
As you scramble towards the last of the defenders, they step backwards so that their backs are to the barricade (5' step). The one at the center begins casting as his comrades lower their crossbows at Gregory
"Got you now, Trogs!"
Adept R3 casts colour spray, DC13 will saves from Salvin, Gregory and Odol to avoid being unconsious, blinded and stunned for 2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 rounds
Adept R2 Attack vs Gregory (AC15) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Adept R4 Attack vs Gregory (AC15) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Adept R2 damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
One of the bolts thuds harmlessly into his armour, but the other draws blood. Toughened by his adventures, Gregory barely registers it.
Meanwhile, Damrang pulls Vhailor up onto the barricade and is relieved to see that the wizard seems to be suffering more from exhaustion than any mortal wound. The relief turns to concern as he sees the rest of the party smothered by the murderous rainbow of the colour spray.
Salvin
Turn 5 15/17 HP, 17 AC, 17 Flat-footed, 10 Touch, 14 CMD, Bless
Will save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Salvin squints as the blast of color washes over him. Then he hefts his greatsword.
"Make peace with your gods quickly," the paladin says as he steps into Q3 and swings his sword down hard.
Power attack on adept R3 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damage 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 3) + 9 = 13
Attack of Opportunity roll again now that they are backed against the wall
Power attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 3) + 9 = 14
Gregory Leichardt
Round 5:
11/18hp, AC 15/11/14, CMD 16, Bless, Guidance, Magic Weapon.
Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20.
For a few seconds, Gregory is blinded by the swirl of colors, but he recovers, and steps up (to Q2), taking a swing at the Adept directly in front of him!
Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 13, for 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 + 1 = 19 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
Odol Nightshard
Round 5
Status
AC 19, touch 12, flat-footed 19 (+5 armor, +2 shield, +2 deflection from Shield of Faith (2 minutes))
hp 15/18
Buffs Lead Blades, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon (all 2 minutes)
Will save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The colors fly from the adept's hands across Gregory and Salvin. Odol, slightly behind them, fails to notice the spell in time. The brilliant rainbow strikes him directly in the eyes. He drops like a stone.
