Atticus slashes his bardiche across the chest of the undead causing it to shriek in pain and then proceed to glare at him, intent on attacking him next. Nargun, with some of his life force drained, has a difficult time bringing his axe to bare and ends up missing the undead creature right in front of him. Twilight casts a spell and sends her hand to deliver it granting Nargun some further defenses against the undead creature.
Mirela looses two more arrows, though only the second one hits, doing more damage to the creature that is starting to look a little bit ragged. Devan maintains his inspiring song while he moves up to Nargun's side and attacks, but slips in some of the gore of the nearby bodies and comes up short in his attack.
Two more vampire spawn come barreling out of the nearby crack in the wall and advance on the group. Luckily the bodies still in the way make it difficult for them to reach you but they circle around their pray. The injured spawn steps to the side of Nargun and attacks Atticus instead.

"By Calistria's barbed words!" Twilight exclaimed. They hadn't been able to finish off one of these things and now there were two more.
"Better lucky than good" Twilight whispered, a very short prayer to bring the Lady's fortune. There was little time for anything more grandiose.
She stepped towards Mirella and gently touched her shoulder. The gentle warmth of a lover's embrace filled Mirella's body.

Luckily, Nargun turns and brings his blade deep into the creatures back dropping it to the floor, even though he can see the wounds slowly starting to heal themselves, it quickly becomes apparent that if something more permanent isn't done eventually the creature will be back on its feet.
Twilight steps closer to Mirela blessing her with a bit of luck from Calistria, though the godesses luck in this situation may be a little out of place. With the one spawn dead Mirela turns her attention toward one of the others loosing Whisper to attack her the nearest spawn. The spawn hisses as the wolf rushes toward it and it gives Whisper pause as she tries to bite the foul creature, causing her to miss. Mirela on the other hand lands both of her shots with Calistria's help, leaving two nasty wounds as the silver burns the creatures flesh slightly.
Devan turned toward the more immediate threats of the spawn right next to him and, joining with Mirela stabs his rapier into the injured one. The creature looks pretty beat up but still has its eyes on Mirela after the latest attack.
The wounds on each of the injured vampire spawn slowly stitch back together. Luckily it appears it will be some time before the unconscious one is back on his feet. The injured spawn looks to the other and nods toward Mirela it considers a moment before moving in that direction while the injured one turns on Devan.

Atticus takes Nargun's advice, stepping back and jabbing down at the unconscious spawn, further injuring it to keep it down. After slicing through its chest to its spine it is pretty clear, even with its natural healing it will be some time before the creature is on its feet again.
Nargun moves to help Mirela and Twilight, but in his rush leaves himself open to an attack from the nearby spawn.
AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Luckily the thing is distracted by Devan and doesn't get close to hitting the dwarf. Nargun plants his axe deeply into the spawn that had attacked Mirela, pulling some of its focus away from the women.
Twilight conjures some acid and lobs it at the creature, she throws it just right to hit the thing and burn its flesh slightly before stepping back to get some distance from it. Mirela follows suit, stepping away and launching another volley of arrows. She lands both shots and the creature stumbles before falling to the floor unconscious, thanks to Devan's attack as the creature left earlier.
Whisper helps out Devan biting into the spawn there, barely doing any damage, but grabbing its leg and pulling it from under the spawn causing it to fall to the ground. Devan sinks his blade deep into the prone spawn near him but the creature still clings to undeath striking out at Devan from the ground.

She looks back at the hole they came out of.
They did be coming out of there. . Then glancing down at her bloody hands again she continues. Dwarf, since you and I are most likely infected now, I’d be guessing we should be the ones to make sure there do be no more. They sleep in coffins or dirt I think. So if there only be three beds, we know we got them all. If even one escapes it could be turning the whole district.
She looks back up at the others with a tear just starting to roll down one cheek.
But her voice remains calm as she finishes:
Better the others do be staying safe.

There is still enough sun light you can disintegrate the bodies if you want.
With the vampire spawns healing stopped for now the group feels like it can breath for a moment. Checking inside the room where the spawn came from, dozens of glass eyes—crooked and crazed—glare from the heads of malformed and half-carved dolls lining skewed workroom shelves. Rat-gnawed stuffed aurochs, disembodied doll limbs, miniature rolling elephants, unseaworthy miniature wooden ships, and blocks illustrated with deformed or poorly painted animals fill bins and racks about the room. A cracked wooden door leads to the north, while a rickety trap door hangs open, breaking the sawdust-covered floor to the east. In one corner lies the drying corpse of an old bald man amid the wood chips, rusty tools, and oily rags of a scored workbench.

"Checking the toy shop is a good idea, but we should keep in mind that some of these wounds might run deeper than just the flesh. They should be checked sooner rather than later lest they leave a permanent scar on the soul."
Twilight held her holy symbol and let Calistria's divine power wash over the group, soothing their ailments.

She glanced into the dimness of the room beyond the hole. In the dying light her keen eyes could make out a few details near the entrance thanks to her elven blood, but further in the room was plunged into pitch black.
"Let's see if we can have a better look before anyone goes inside" With a word she cast a simple cantrip of light and hung it on the spectral manifestation of her hand. The hand floated into the room to the limit of her sight and placed the spell on a small piece of debris, illuminating the room.

Twilight doesn't see any particularly lasting effects in her examination and Mirela knows that unlike a full vampire, spawn can not create other vampires so there is no threat there. However, those injured by the vampire spawn have been sapped of some of their vitality. Mirela would know that this has a chance to pass on its own after a day but could also be healed with magic.

"Be careful, with undead around that old corpse is suspicious."
Twilight glanced around the shop without entering. "I thought this place was closed. It looks like the toymaker has still been active for a while, though some of his work looks a little questionable."

Devan Covarie |

Devan bent over after the brief fight, breathing hard from the exertion and the sudden loss of vitality he felt from the creature's strike. He glanced over at Mirela as she snapped the head off an arrow and drove it into one of the undead, shaking his head in denial. He had much to live for now...he'd have to be more careful. He smiled at the redhead as she walked his way to put down the third creature, giving it another stab to make sure it stayed down before it could be put to rest more permanently.
The young man cocked his head at her tears, thinking the severity of the fight had perhaps gotten to her, until she spoke of the dwarf and herself going in to flush out any remaining vampire things. He quickly grew concerned. "What's this all about now? You and Nargun are fine, right? Just a wound we can sleep off?"
Unable to do anything else at the moment and with a job to do, Devan helped the others gather the trio of corpses in the street in the waning sunlight, feeling a lot easier as the creatures were put down for good. Going into the abandoned toy shop later, the musician looked at the corpse with sadness, stepping outside when it became clear there was no threat remaining.
What was becoming of Korvosa? A whole section of town, wasted away. The dead filling alleys because the shepherds of their corpses were too tired or lazy to take them to their final rest. What a sorrowful state the city was in.

GM Dak |

After Mirela checks the bodies and finds nothing of interest, the group drags the vampire spawn out into the waning sunlight and watches as their bodies quickly catch on fire and turn to dust.
Twilight looks at the desiccated corpse and is fairly certain that it is indeed dead, but she can't be certain without getting closer to check.
Mirela heads into the shop and can confirm the corpse is, in fact, just a corpse.
wounds up and down his neck. It is pretty clear that these spawn literally sucked the life out of the poor man.
Mirela sees a set of keys dangling from the mans belt, likely keys to the shop here. Checking around the rest of the room there is little of interest aside from the creepy toys which are likely of no value.
Peeking her head into the room under the floor where the trap door hangs open Mirela sees a dirt-floored crawl space 3-1/2 feet tall with the same dimensions as the room above. Amid numerous blocks of various types of mundane wood lie three simple but solid coffins, two of which are open exposing dry, gray soil that fills each.

Awkwardly stitched stuffed animals, poorly equipped toy soldiers, and dolls exhibiting myriad accidental deformities stare blankly out of the filth-smeared front window of this toy store showroom. Several heavy-looking kites dangle purple and crimson tails from the ceiling above, and a dollhouse recreating Castle Korvosa’s intimidating towers dominates one of the room’s side tables. Festooned with tiny bells, the shop’s entrance stands to the north, across from a doorway marked “Private” and a counter cluttered with dusty jars of candies.

While Nargun starts breaking apart the coffins with Mirela they find some things of value in the dirt as it spills out of the broken coffins. Three leather pouches hold a combined total of 15 platinum and 300 gold, all of Ustalavic minting; a high quality ring that looks like intertwined brass spider legs; and a nice set of pan pipes made of bone.
With the coffins destroyed Mirela checks out the front part of the shop. Again all the creepy toys her are likely of no real value. However, after some searching she does find a rusty, pathetically jingling lockbox behind the counter. Using one of the keys she founds she opens to box, which reveals 2 gold, 8 siler, 22 copper, a silver tooth worth 1 gold, and a brass key shaped like the symbol of Abadar and bearing the number 261.

Devan came back in after a few moments of collecting himself, helping to clear away rubble and broken toys in the effort to scour the shop for anything useful. It didn't look like the current owner had any more need for his effects. The musician looked quizzically at the key, then shrugged, wondering if it was perhaps a key to the front door.
Once everyone was done in the shop, the bard joined them outside, looking at the pile of bodies in dismay. Now that the violent threat had been eliminated, it was time to get to work on the bodies and getting them in the cart.

Twilight. |

Twilight raised and eyebrow at the sight of the gold coins "That is curious, why would vampire spawn from Ustalav have ended up in the basement of a toy maker's shop? And who was this man?" She gestured around the shop "He certainly had a passion for crafting toys, but maybe not so much skill as to make a living at it? That replica of the castle is interesting though."

Devan Covarie |

Devan stepped forward and took the key to a box at the Grand Vault, setting it in his pouch for now. As the others identified a couple of magic items, the musician let out a low whistle. Whatever might have befallen the toymaker before, he must have been fairly well off to possess such things.
"Perhaps the contents of the box at the Grand Vault can establish his identify."
Glancing at the two ladies who had so quickly discovered the magical auras and identified them, he found himself again thankful for having found this small group to travel with. Not only were they wonderful company, but they were very capable, as well.
Once the party was done inside the shop, Devan joined them outside, giving Mirela anxious looks but otherwise just standing guard as they reverted to their original plan to remove the bodies from the alley.

GM Dak |

To note, the magic items came from the dirt in the coffins not the toy maker.
Once the group is certain there is not anything more of interest here they return to the streets the dark night sky overhead now.
Let me know if Nargun is still the only one moving the bodies or if anyone else helps, but for now I will move us on.
After some time you manage to collect the various bodies of those who perished to this disease and cart them off to be properly disposed of. The stench is horrible and even though the streets are mostly empty the few people you do pass give you a wide berth seeing the massive pile of plague corpses you are totting along.
When all is said and done it is getting close to midnight. The city is eerily quiet. Even with the late hour you are accustomed to a city this size having some life to it but things are looking more and more grim as this disease spreads through the city.

Nargun Firehelm |

Nargun obstinately refuses that anyone helps him, taking all the risks for himself (but listening to wise advice to reduce those risks, and doing his best to avoid to touch the corpses, using his tools to move the bodies)

GM Dak |

Nargun, working alone, is none the less extremely careful in working with the bodies, likely part of the reason it takes so long to get them all in the cart, but at least he feels pretty confident that he didn't expose himself to the sickness.

Mirela Wintrish |

Mirela argues with Nargun a bit holding up her bloody hands saying she is already infected and shoukd help him. But she does not push it that hard when he insists she not help. Rather she stands guard making sure nothing else bothers him but also clearly standing apart from the others. As the time drags on, she does take a moment to see if she can recover either of the silver arrows that she missed hitting the creatures with.
As the last body is loaded Mirela looks up:
Off to the grey district then?
She thinks for a moment then continues.
We probably should make sure Kroft knows about what did happen ‘ere, and get the guard to stop this from ‘appening again. I don’t be wanting to ‘ave another nest of these to fight again.

Twilight. |

Twilight made no attempt to argue with Nargun's insistence that he be the only one to handle the corpses, she did offer a little assistance though. She cast a prestidigitation spell and proceeded to lessen the miasma around the pile. "Let's see those hands Mirela."
Twilight proceeded to use the same magic to clean the blood form Mirela's hands and clothing before moving on to the rest of the group.
"I agree that Kroft should know about this. The Grand Vault is just a little ways from the Juggler. Perhaps we check out the key on the way." Twilight stifled a yawn "First thing tomorrow?"

Devan Covarie |

Devan looked worriedly at Mirela, but understood her reasoning for standing apart from the rest of them as Nargun worked at the pile of bodies. Trying to argue with the redhead would only exacerbate her worry, he reasoned, so he kept the conversation light as they kept a lookout for more trouble as night dawned and the sturdy dwarf performed the grisly task.
The musician nodded wearily in agreement with the ladies, "Tomorrow morning sounds like a plan. Perhaps we can check out Lavender's afterwards, if nothing more pressing awaits us in either location."

The group trudges back to the Juggler in the late hours, eventually making it to their destination with no real issues. Exhausted you head off to bed, already knowing tomorrow is going to be another busy day. At least today you put down two potentially large threats to the city; the wererats and vampire spawn, while also helping to literally clean the city streets hopefully helping to slow the spread of the plague.
What are the plans for the next day?

Twilight. |

After a warm bath to soak away the horrors of yet another day in Korvosa, Twilight had a light dinner and then headed downstairs to the shrine room and did a little more preparations for the ceremony to come as well as attend to her responsibilities.
She took the traditional silk pouch and tithed the odd Ustalav coins. It did not matter where the windfall had originated, Calistria only cared that she was paid her due.
She finished off the night with a nice glass of wine and the books of necromancy confiscated from the Grey District trying to see if there was anything that could be done to improve her friend's chances of recovery.
As the next morning dawned, Twilight sought out Mirela. Twilight had been a little frustrated to find that while there did seem to be plenty of options to help one recover, they were all beyond her ability. But maybe not Mirela's.
"Do you know of a blessing that would bolster a person's physical health? I know such spells exist, but I can't currently cast them. They tend not to last long, but I thought that if cast at the right time, it might give a little boost to those of you who were touched by the spawn's affliction and help them overcome it."

Mirela Wintrish |

After a very long day Mirela carefully washes herself up, and requests for her clothing to be laundered.
Putting on her old Peasant's clothing she heads downstairs to the common room, stopping only long enough to order a light dinner for herself and a small chunk of meat to be brought to her room.
Then she turns, pausing only to wish those of her companions who are downstairs "good night" then without another word quickly heads back upstairs and locks the door to her room.
There she spends a few hours continuing to work teaching Whisper to stay. But her heart is not in it. She opens the door only to grab her dinner, before quarantining herself in her locked room again. After feeding, and a good round of petting, Whisper she heads to bed.
As she lays down a soft prayer escapes her lips.
Please keep them all safe. We did be trying to preserve this community. There do be so many who need our 'elp.
It wasn't much, but she had to trust that the Gods would understand.
She stays awake for a few more moments, thinking how empty the bed felt, before exhaustion from a crazy day took over her.
The next morning, she rises and gives her daily observances to Lord Erastil before filling her wash basin with water. When the water stills, she looks at her reflection in the wash basin and searches for signs of the blood veil. But her inspection is interrupted by the soft knocking on her door.
She cracks the door, and seeing Twilight there reluctantly lets her in.
As Twilight explains her thoughts Mirela distractedly responds:
I do be knowing a prayer that can make someone 'ealthier for a short time, but not for the length of a sickness... So I don't know how it would 'elp. You can't be knowing when a fever it do break.
Ummm, Sorry but do I be looking sick? I can't tell in the reflection....
Mirela looks pleadingly out from under her red hair, dreading the answer that she is sure is coming.
You did be getting sick overnight, so I'm guessing I should be sick soon, if I did catch the veil from the Spawn...

Twilight. |

Twilight took an involuntary step back as Mirela suggested that she thought she might have the Veil. Having already been infected with it once, Twilight was in no hurry to suffer its effects a second time.
heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
"Hm, I hadn't considered the possibility of catching the Veil from them." Twilight said as she examined Mirela. "Its a good thought though. I was more concerned with the damage to the spirit from unliving energy.
I know it takes about a day to recover from contact with negative energy, but not everybody makes a full recovery and that is what I am worried about."
Twilight finished her examination. Although the priestess of Calistria wasn't formally trained in the healing arts, she had plenty of first hand experience with this particular disease in the last few days.
"I'm not as skilled a healer as you are, but I don't see anything indicating that you are infected. Would you like me to cast a spell just to be sure?"

Mirela Wintrish |

Mirela brightens visibly at the prospect of knowing For sure.
Could you? I’ve been worried all night I caught it since I got all bloody from staking the vampire spawn.
Wait before you do, we should all gather together and make sure none of us were infected. Nargun especially since he did be moving the bodies.

Devan Covarie |

Devan spent his evening in the common room of the Juggler, giving Mirela the space she seemed to be needing without speaking it. He gathered from what she had said that she fretted over possibly being infected by the vampire spawn, and the musician was ignorant enough about sickness to understand he couldn't tell one way or the other. She seemed healthy enough, but these things tended to linger, get one's hopes up, then strike suddenly.
So he instead played half-heartedly on his lute at times for the other patrons and his friends, even his distracted effort putting forth a pleasant sound, if not truly showing off his expertise with the instrument.
Perform (strings): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
As the evening drug on and exhaustion kicked in, the young man bid the others a good night, a nice hard sleep in order before another probable full day of activity. As he passed by the redheaded priestess' room, he rapped on the door a couple times. "Good night, my love."
With that, he entered his room, quickly stripped for bed and laid down. Even on the edge of fatigue it took him quite a while to drift off as he contemplated the empty space next to him and the plague spreading through the city. Maybe they would have been better off leaving Korvosa with Trinia...
.................................
The next morning, Devan woke at least somewhat refreshed, coming down to the common room to find a few absences from the group. The bard shrugged...it had been a long day and they didn't have anything to do that needed doing instantly. Best to let them sleep.

Nargun Firehelm |

Nargun is in a brooding mood, and is careful not to touch anyone, even if you feel the dwarf would gladly indulge in a night of carousing and especially a late-night ol" fashioned bar room brawl.
Instead, he gets into his room, order a warm bath and a few bottles, with some meat too. He could visibly do without vegetables.
He locks himself in his room as soon as possible.
The morning after, Nargun tries to shake himself out of his dark reverie, and start the day with a few exercices, practising his axe in his room (after pushing away the furniture), pushing himself to the limits
Trying to find out if there are consequences from the vampiric touch: level drained?

GM Dak |

Nargun notices something is still off from yesterday. Whatever the vampire spawn did its made him slower and weaker and just not as lively.
Anyone who got drained (which I believe is everyone except Twilight got at least -1 and Nargun got -2) maintains their deficit until at least IG tonight at which point you will all have an opportunity to make a Fort save to remove the temporary negative level and hopefully avoid making it permanent. To note if it does become permanent then you can only remove it with a restoration spell but there is a price increase of +900 gold. Of course, you can also try to find someone to cast restoration now to immediately remove the effects, which will cost at least 380 gold per casting. (7x4x10)+100

Nargun Firehelm |

We do have a potion of lesser restoration in our loot, would that be helpful? I suppose the Fort save would be done with the drained level penalty (-2 for me, -1 for Twilight)?

Twilight frowned "The spell can only diagnose one person, and I only prepared one for today. Let me cast it on you so we know for certain.
Anyway, dwarves are famously hardy people, I would be very surprised if Nargun became infected."
Twilight proceeded to cast the spell and peered at Mirela. "You will be relieved to know that you are not infected with anything. How about we join the others to discuss what to do about the exposure to negative energy and our other plans for today.
Priestess Joy's services are likely to be in high demand these days and if we decide that we want to see if she can treat the wounded spirits, I will have to set that in motion as soon as possible."
