Nymph |

Okay so then is it a surprise round or something or just waiting on actions from Yuki and Ayre aside from the perception checks?

Ayre |

I am waiting for the surprise round. Since I don't see anything I have to delay till after the atrack

DM Davy Jones |

Well if there was any buffing to do, you could do that. But failing that Nymph, Galean and the creature get to move, then normal combat.

Nymph |

Nymph surges forward at the the aggressive lurker..
Shortsword (Charge): 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 24
Damage (Piercing, Magic): 1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 10
HP: 19/26

Galean "Rafter" Santiago |

Galean brushes his eyes, noticing the weird creature, and charges alongside Nymph. Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
"What the hell is this?", he asks, trying to figure out how to combat the foe best. Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

DM Davy Jones |

You see something lurking in the water...
...
Knowledge (Arcana) to identify
Knowledge (Nature) isn't right, do you have Knowledge (Arcana)?
Both Nymph and Galean's attacks land on the creature, who responds by flooding the area around it with a cloudy, nauseating cloud of blood.
Nymph, Galean - make a DC 15 Fortitude save of you are nauseated for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds. Yuki, Ayre - if you approach you likewise will have to make the Fortitude save.
Proceed!

Nymph |

Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Nymph begins helplessly retching and gagging.

Galean "Rafter" Santiago |

Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Galean absolutely refuses to be taken out of combat for the second time in a row, and slashes once more.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"Nymph! Are you alright?" he shouts, seeing her start retching.

Yuki Okano |

Yuki fires an arrow at the weird, bloody thing, but misses.
Arrow + PBS - Cover: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 - 3 = 9

Ayre |

1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16 for 1d3 ⇒ 3
Ayre sends a jolt of electricity that makes the creatures teeth slam shut

DM Davy Jones |

Galean and Yuki miss, Ayre zaps the creature, whose blood seems to obscure it from view (total concealment - for you, not it). It then proceeds to try and use its tentacles to bash Nymph.
Attack (Tentacles): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
It fails to connect (fortunately for the ranger).

Yuki Okano |

If Yuki casts Obscuring Mist, would it would be reasonable to assume the creature would be affected by it? You know, level the playing field a bit? Since it has total concealment already, it shouldn't have an effect on our people (although Galean and Yuki wouldn't be affected by the mist anyway), but I'm doubting it has a way to see through the mists so at least the creature's attacks would have a 20% miss chance and it won't be able to see people at range either.

DM Davy Jones |

Good question! Unfortunately the fish is attacking underwater, and obscuring mist does not function underwater so the answer is no. If you were hovering above the water and it had to attack out of the water the answer would be yes.

Yuki Okano |

Thanks for the clarification!
Yuki sighs and fires an arrow into the ink black abyss surrounding the monster in the off chance it finds its mark.
Longbow+PBS-cover: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 10

Nymph |

Nymph continues to convulse.

DM Davy Jones |

Are we up again
You are indeed. Waiting on you and Galean atm.

Ayre |

1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16. For 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 plus 1 bleed
Ayre swims down under the water and sends a spear at the critter

Galean "Rafter" Santiago |

Galean moves to the side, trying to get the creature distracted between him and Nymph. Still in the cloud of blood, he swings at the creature, deciding to keep quiet for once. Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

DM Davy Jones |

I see we're ignoring the concealment.
Miss Chance (Ayre): 1d100 ⇒ 54
Miss Chance (Galean): 1d100 ⇒ 95
...There's something wrong there.
Ayre and Galean get extraordinarily lucky landing blows, prompting a vicious response from the creature.
Attack (Tentacles): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Very wrong.
The tentacles again fail to connect, leaving the frustrated and still unidentified creature from killing the interlopers.

Nymph |

Nymph continues to convulse.

Galean "Rafter" Santiago |

Galean strolls back, seeing his rather ineffective attacks. He then begins waving his arms around, almost as if swimming ineffectively.
As soon as he begins wailing, a Giant squid appears next to the other giant squid, adding its tentacles to the already severely tentacled waters. "Fighting fire with fire!", he shouts, as the squid begins roaming around the waters.

Ayre |

Oh I thought it wasn't concealed if I went underwater
1d100 ⇒ 4 ayres next spear misses
don't forget bleed

Yuki Okano |

Yuki doesn't have to worry about the creature's concealment as her arrows continue to not even come close to hitting it.
Bow+PBS-Cover: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

DM Davy Jones |

Attack (Tentacles): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
...Not this again. Nymph, take your dice back.
Go!

Nymph |

NO, F~%+ YOU HSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

Ayre |

Ayre comes back above water and tries another jolt
1d100 ⇒ 69
1d20 ⇒ 8 for 1d3 ⇒ 2
Ayre zaps the top of cavern

Yuki Okano |

Yuki fires yet another arrow, but at least this one gets a little closer.
Bow+PBS+Cover: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Concealment on the off chance that hits: 1d100 ⇒ 92
Potential damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Galean "Rafter" Santiago |

The vicious squid attacks with its beak, flapping its tentacles against the other vicious, tentacled beast.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Miss, Low, bad: 1d100 ⇒ 77
After biting, the squid attempts to take a hold of the young druid's enemy. Attack. Tentacles: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 But sadly, misses.
Galean decides to take advantage of the odds and moves closer to strike, swinging his cutlass with closed eyes.
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 100 TAKE THAT, MISS CHANCE!
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The Cutlass, now free from the guiding hand of the druid, lodges itself deep into the hide of the monster.

DM Davy Jones |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

In what can only be described as the whim of Besmara, Galean desperately attacks the monster and surprisingly deals a terrible blow.
The creature thrashes about to destroy this terrible being with the sharp cutlass.
Attack (Tentacles): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
DM takes Nymph's dice, places them in a fire pit, melts them, puts the melted plastic into a blast furnace that burns them into gas, takes the gas, puts it into a cylinder and pays for the cylinder to launch the gas into space lest they contaminate his rolls again.
1d20 ⇒ 12 ...Better, not great but better.

Ayre |

the canister goes into a blackhole, where it travels through both time and space and winds up as part of the big bang, and a remnant of them winds up back in DM's dice, from the beginning of time. You are cursed forever!

Nymph |

Finally coming out of her fit Nymph stabs and snaps at the creature.
Shortsword (Charge): 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 25
Damage (Piercing, Magic): 1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 8
Bite: 1d20 + 5 - 5 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 5 - 1 = 14
Damage (Bashing, Piercing, Slashing): 1d8 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 3 = 7
HP: 19/26

Ayre |

You do know it is dead, right?
Ayre takes a search around the room
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Nymph |

Um, no, why did he make an attack roll if it was?

DM Davy Jones |

It's dead, but recovering that arrow will be a doozy.
Ayre finds nothing! And for that curse you'll find nothing forever! FOOOOOOOOREEEEVEEERR!

Yuki Okano |

"Maybe we should wait until this squid juice clears up some, I might need those arrows..." Yuki suggests to the group. Regardless of their response, she uses one of the Cure Light Wound scrolls on Nymph.
CLW scroll on Nymph: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
How many scrolls did we get again? I'm sorry, I forgot it put them on my sheet.
If we wait for Yuki to recover arrows, 1 is bad: 5d2 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 2, 1) = 7
Perception to look around afterwards: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Nymph |

Looking a bit green about the gills Nymph still offers Yuki a happy smile in return for the always welcome healing.
HP: 24/26

DM Davy Jones |

Two light, one moderate as I recall.
Yuki, on the wall you see a dull metal bracelet snagged upon a jawbone. It's inscribed with a pattern that looks an awful lot like a stylized bow and arrow.

Yuki Okano |

"Hmm, what is this thing..." Yuki ponders as she casts Detect Magic on it and tries to identify it.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Galean "Rafter" Santiago |

"Ha! Never bring a sword to a squid fight, my ass...", shouts Galean, ecstatic about the fact he actually hit something bad. He pets his squid goodbye, the re-joins the others. "Everyone alright? Let's find Sandara and the rest, this place is getting on my nerves. And I'm running out of magic juice.", he says, swinging his cutlass in an extremely unsafe manner. "Ouch.", he mutters as he pinches himself with the basket hilt, then puts in back on his belt.

DM Davy Jones |

Yuki, the item is one half of a set of lesser bracers of archery - you need both bracers to make the magic work however.
There are two tunnels leading away from the area you're in, one to the north and one to the west.
