DM Carbide |

Unfortunately, no. It's immune to any magic that allows spell resistance except for maze and magic missile.

The second claw attack misses the creature.

The dice module does not love you, Bea.

DM Carbide |

Flanking with the elemental would require moving through the brush--possible, but slow and unpleasant. You could take a 5' step and have Katya tell the elemental to shift to flank with you, though.

DM Carbide |

The cat is flanking with you, Bea. Give the elemental a chance.

DM Carbide |

I use the zoom button a lot for these things, especially when I have larger maps.
ETA: I just enlarged everything--how does it look now?

DM Carbide |

DMPCing Katya for now.

Vasily continues to fire at the floating, glowing ball while Strelka continues to try to help Bea.

DM Carbide |

Vasily's first arrow hits, but all of the other attacks miss the wisp.

It stays on Bea, flashing for another 7 HP.
Everyone is up!
Wisp damage: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
Wisp: -27 HP
AC 26 T 26 FF 16

DM Carbide |

That's more like it!
As the wisp dodges the elemental's feint, Bea cleaves into and through it. The light dies on it, and a few tatters of matter drift to the ground beneath where it was.
Out of combat!

Bea |

Throwing her helmet to the ground, Bea sits heavily to rest, breathing hard. She glares at the scant remains in front of her. "Shame my armor's conductive. Expect I'll see plenty of burned skin when I take it off." Glancing around at her friends, she adds, "Katya, anything there you can make use of? Spell reagents, whatever it is you do with those?"

Vasily Lyesnayevich |

Vasily grimaces as he moves up to recover his arrows. "If there are many more of those things around here we're going to need that boat sooner rather than later. Next time maybe we should see if we can just buy one."

DM Carbide |

If you don't go back now, you'll be stuck on the island all night.

DM Carbide |

You could do that, yes. But last night you saw multiple will-o'-wisps out over the water and on the island...just sayin'.

DM Carbide |

You retreat from the tower, reaching the water just as the fishers were about to give up. They take you back to shore and head for the safer waters of the Tuskwater.

Bea |

Bea is mostly quiet as they set camp for the night. She sits near the fire, munching on a bit of dried meat, lost in thought. "Those weren't ghosts, were they? I was expecting the restless dead, but this was entirely different. And yet...the way they only appear at night..." she trails off. "I hope we find some answers tomorrow."
final LoH on self: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
hp:35/36

DM Carbide |

The night will pass uneventfully save for whatever discussions you feel like doing here. For whatever reason, you see no lights on the water.

The Fitcher |

Sitting around the campfire, you notice that The Fitcher's eyes reflect the light with a distinctive yellow-green sheen, like a cat, or some other nocturnal animal.
It was living creature, I think. But island is cursed. This I believe. I'll take midnight watch.
With his brief statement complete, he falls into a sort of meditative state, staring into the darkness of the evening sky.

Vasily Lyesnayevich |

Vasily nods at the Fitcher. "Our weapons affected it; that's enough evidence for me that those things are alive, not ghosts. If there are lots of them out there, though..." He shakes his head. "Ghosts might actually be easier; at least with them you know a priest can keep them away from you."
Any information to be had about these things with a Kn:Dungeoneering check?
Kn:Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

DM Carbide |

Vasily, there were a couple of spoilered bits of information about them HERE.
Bea, the one you fought appeared late in the day, but while the sun was still above the horizon.

Vasily Lyesnayevich |

Right, forgot we already did the checks. Anything about whether they're preferentially nocturnal or related to undead?

DM Carbide |

They're aberrations, not really related to undead. They seem to feed off of the psychic emanations from terrified creatures, so when they're not trying to kill enemies in a standup fight they lead the unsuspecting into danger. (You folks are unlikely to be so foolish as to follow a light into a swamp, though.) This is more easily done at night.

Katya Volkv |

Katya sits close by the fire as the sun drops below the horizon, her hands pressed close to the fire to catch as much of the warmth as possible. "Vasily is right... they are alive, but more importantly, they are immune to most everything I might try against them. Exploring Candlemere is going to be a chore even when we're not being attacked by the wisps. Our goal should be to figure out what is attracting them there tomorrow."

Katya Volkv |

Katya nods as she takes a sip of water, "Of course Bea, I did say most everything didn't I? Our best bet might actually be to go on the defensive for once, though it doesn't fit my style. I believe I can protect a few of you from the discharges they used to attack you so effectively. We will be better prepared come the morning."

DM Carbide |

When you're ready, the fishers who ferried you across yesterday are in the area and willing to carry you over again. The cut you made through the brush is still there, though there's enough thistledown in the air that they'll likely be growing back soon even if the brambles will take longer.

The Fitcher |

The Fitcher disembarks from the little boat, looking around warily. He helps the others ashore, then takes out his shortbow and nocks an arrow.
Ready to go to the tower. Perception for critters hiding in the underbrush 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

DM Carbide |

No sign of anything moving in the underbrush, Fitcher.

DM Carbide |

No will-o'-wisps, wyverns, or tendriculii, I hope.
The intrepid quartet (plus cat) makes their way along the narrow path to the tower. Are there any defensive spells you want to put up before you reach the tower?

DM Carbide |

Actually, I was talking to the cat ;-).

Katya Volkv |

I don't want to spend the spell slot and have it time out before its useful, but Katya will have the spell Resist Energy (Electricity) ready to cast on Bea, Vasily or The Fitcher (whoever is closer) as soon as a wisp is seen and attacking us.
