Kalev's blade met a great deal of resistance as he swept it through the water-creature but with the great strength and focus behind it, the creature certainly swayed as the blade tore apart the elemental energies powering it.
In a dire situation, Kip nevertheless worked his agile mind and found a solution, breaking from the tides that held him with the aid of a potion by virtue of bursting into a cloud of gas.
Malthir rushed the Undead Lich, the once-Cyclops catching him with a bony claw as he rushed in with sword raised and righteous fury flowing through him. He made for quite the tragic sight, frozen in that pose as a result of the ancient evil's touch!
Melee Touch Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
Damage (Negative Energy): 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Malthir Fortitude (Fail): 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 14 + 1 = 18
Malthir is PARALYZED!
The ancient Lich looked at the righteous fury and hatred in the trapped Paladin's eyes as he taunted-
"So much for the power of your New God. Your mind will tell me all about your heathen religion, later."
The Lich arrogantly strode back up to his throne, taking a seat once more. His hands grasping the handles of his great chair of bones, the only indication that he cast a spell at all was the whispered word of power as he glanced at Casimir, the red crystal set into his eye socket fixed upon the duelist...
He is attempting to render someone Blind with Necromantic powers.
Casimir Fortitude (Fail): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 = 11
Casimir realized with horror that his vision was clouding. As the black tendrils creeping at the edge of his vision were fully encompassed by darkness and spread to obscure his entire vision, Vordakai spoke once again, in a bored tone.
"I see through your simple illusion, Casimir. Now you see nothing at all..."
Casimir is BLIND!
With a single swipe of his hand and a spoken word, Vordakai had rendered two of Kardas' greatest champions near powerless.
Fenna and Casimir are up.

Trying desperately to fight off the icy feeling horrific dread that grips his intestines in a vice as his vision fades, Casimir raises up his voice to offer some sliver of hope and encouragement to his companions.
No fear, Guardians! The times we have faced dangers that seemed impossible to defeat are to numerous to count. This vile thing too shall perish! - Inspire Courage +2
As he calls out, he stumbles forward towards the edge of the pool, wanting to ensure that his encouragement can reach as many of the Guardians as possible.

Unfortunately, Gallant Inspiration only works on failed attacks or skill checks. Believe me, I'd help you if I could.
Fenna Thistleswade |
Seeing Malthir incapacitated before he could follow through with his assault on the ancient villain, Fenna hurries to Ricter's side to lend divine aid to his defense.
"May the Soldier stand by this bastion of Law, and and fortify him against this terrible evil."
Move to H29 and cast guidance on Ricter (+1 competence bonus to a single attack, save, skill check or ability check of his choice).

Recap-
The Guardians of Kardas had, perhaps, erred this day. Seeking the source of the undead attacks upon their realm and any remains of the suddenly vanished kingdom of Varnhold, they had fought their way into the heart of an ancient rock pillar, besting dozens of undead troops and extraplanar guardians. All signs indicated that an ancient evil had been awoken here and they had found this evil; an ancient Cyclops Lich. By his own words, the Cyclops had been in slumber for over 10,000 years. Known as Vordakai, 16th of his name and heir to Ancient Casmaron; within mere moments of the battle beginning Vordakai had rendered Casimir blind and paralyzed Malthir with a swipe of a bony claw, while Kip managed to escape a brutal drowning by a huge water elemental now flanking the party.
Exceedingly arrogant, the as yet unharmed Vordakai was clearly toying with the group, not deigning to finish off the helpless Malthir and actually sitting back upon his throne, his ruby-gem eye pulsating with power as he surveyed the veteran adventurers before him.
Continuation-
With Kip having escaped its grasp, the elemental's body contorted into dense water as it formed crude appendages spontaneously and struck Kalev with them. The force behind each blow was like being struck by a small tidal wave and the Marshall's endurance and fury were sorely tested as he struck and protected himself with his bardiche against the incoming blows. Hit by a glancing blow that he managed to weather, Kalev's ribs were nevertheless cracked by a brutal punch to his gut from a watery limb.

Ricter, Kalev and Kip are up (as is Malthir if he has a way to act).
Don't hesitate with any questions etc. I know its been some time!

What hesitation Ricter may have felt in the face of this powerful evil evaporates when he hears Casimir's defiant shout. He advances round the pool, flail spinning at the ready and shield up.

He's ready to fight this thing along, but can't help but hesitate for a second to see if Malthir can recover...

However, I did forget to apply the -1 damage from Prayer, so its 27 damage not 28. Can you and Malthir please make sure your HP are correct.

Kalev turning to rush to the aid of his allies gave the huge elemental the opening it needed and despite an evasive roll that nearly got him clear, Kalev's back was almost broken with the unyielding force of a crashing wave upon it while Kip quietly made his escape away from the melee. In great pain and his rage mounting, Kalev leapt up onto the far end of the fountain and swung Cleft in a mighty arc, seeking to seperate the skeletal head from its body. The sheer myriad of magical defences slowed his blade and blunted its edge, but the blow was nevertheless a mighty one. The famous pole-arm's muscular wielder felt the full glare of Vordakai's ruby-gemmed eye upon him.

Appearing utterly unconcerned at the damage Kalev's blow had done to the bones of his upper chest, Vordakai arrogantly cast a spell with no particular regard to Kalev's attempt to disrupt it. With Vordakai's appearance and position seeming to randomly shift, Kalev missed the mark and Vordakai's shifting form extended a bony claw that shimmered with a pale blue light for a moment, with no other obvious visual effect becoming apparent as a result of the spell. The ancient being then rose to his feet, his gaze fixed on the dangerous Ranger stood before him...

Realizing that Fenna's curse will delay her in using the vital scrolls that can release Malthir from the dreadful paralysis or restore his own eyesight, Casimir carefully moves around the pool, before he once again summons an unseen servant and issues a command to the disembodied assistant:
Unseen servant, take the scroll marked "remove paralysis" from my scroll case and deliver it to Fenna. Then assist her in retrieving any scoll or other object she requests from her own pack.

Fenna fumbles at her belt for a moment, searching for a misplaced scroll-case, before hearing Casimir's instructions to his conjured servant. With the reassurance that the scroll she was searching for will soon be on its way, she turns her focus to what help she can provide immediately; the gnome's silvery eyes darting between Casimir and the terribly wounded Kalev, before she intones an Azlanti prayer, "I call upon the Great Eye of Aroden; please lend your sight to our beleaguered ally!"

Apologies, insane week again and was away on the weekend.
Casimir felt unseen hands rummaging through his pack and, in utter silence, the scroll was carried over to Fenna, floating beside her and waiting for further instructions from the Gnome.
Fenna focused on marring the affliction Casimir had been inflicted with, faint tendrils of light dancing out from outstretched fingertips as she closed her eyes and focused on the auras surrounding the duelist. Although Vordakai's spell resisted her magic and for a moment Casimir's magical images flickered ominously as though about to be dispelled, she was successful in her endeavour, the Spymaster's vision suddenly returning.
The hulking water elemental was sluggish in movement but had no real difficulties manoeuvring its fluid form through the much smaller doorframe as it approached the rear of the party. It ignored the even slower gaseous form now floating alongside it in favour of movement towards Fenna.
Ricter and Kalev to act. Ricter, note you will likely provoke an AOO upon approach from Vordakai due to his ten foot reach.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
As Ricter moved in to attack, shield up and seeking to avoid Vordakai's long arm, a sudden motion from Kalev was noted in the Hellknight's peripheral vision; but much too late to prepare for the attack that came. Cleft cleaved through the metallic shoulder pauldron of his Hellknight plate mail with the full force of Kelev's rage-fueled might behind it, inflicting a deep gash along the right hand side of Ricter's muscular back. Already committed to his course of action and swing, Ricter ducked under Vordakai's claw, closed in and swung true- striking Vordakai despite the illusionary magic protecting him. The flail's head was ideally suited to smash bone and the mighty swing broke through the layers of tangible magical force protecting the ancient being and connected with Vordakai's hastily-raised left arm. The limb was near-shattered with a brutal crunching sound as shards of bone were sent flying by the collision.
Confirmed crit- and it is clear bludgeoning damage is working better than slashing here.

With magical inspiration provided from a hasty spell from Casimir as he watched struggle to penetrate the Lich's formidable wards and defences, Kalev managed to inflict another blow against the Lich's ribcage. The magical blade inflicted little more than superficial damage though, only Kalev's brute strength behind the blow really inflicting any blunt trauma to the slash.

Concentration Check (Success): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27
With two powerful blows having broken through his defences and Kalev no longer under his thrall, Vordakai seemed to be taking the situation more seriously now. His single, crystalline eye flared with magic as he spoke a single word, briefly opening a hole in the fabric of the material plane, stepping through it and appearing on the other side of the chamber, stood atop the broken remnants of the room's door; and within arm's reach of the floating, hazy image of Kip.
Fenna, Casimir, Ricter and Kalev to act (the water elemental has a readied action).
Casimir |
Casimir twists his wrist and a wand appears in his hand. He speaks the words to activate it, and everyone except Malthir feel the familiar quickening of a haste spell. Swift+standard action to draw and use wand from wrist sheath - expires round 6
Dropping the wand, he moves forward at blinding speed. Move action - move to B31
Very important reminder for everyone - looking back through the posts, I realized that we are hasted and that it will last until round 6. That means that Kalev should have gotten one more attack, +1 to hit and dmg (which may mean that the first attack hit without help) and that our mobility is greatly increased.
