Kip looks a little crestfallen when he sees his share of the loot. I was really hoping to replace that potion. Oh well, maybe soon. He shrugs his shoulders and drops the coins into his belt pouch, and gives it a little pat before heading off to continue his researches.
Kip becomes Magister of Kardas
What? No trumpets blaring? No ticker tape parade? How about a round of drinks at the tavern at least? jk ;)
Thanks for the info/updates Malthir. I am still working out the kingdom rules when I have a moment to read up, and the updated sheets will help me get up to speed.

We will defintely RP it, this is just the mechanicals...you still have to live that long. We are going up against the trolls and I have a feeling it will be ugly knowing Alex. Luckily this break for the wedding was a good excuse to give Alex a little time with school. It will be time to head west to find them soon.
Is everyone okay with that course of action next?Kip Bendybrook |
What is that, like the 10th time Kip has been told "you have to live that long"? Kip is starting to wonder if there is some plan he isn't aware of. Is he to be some sort of troll bait? "Ok... we send in the morsel, I mean Kip, and when the trolls are distracted picking him from their teeth we strike!" ;)
The only threads left to pull at, at this point, are the trolls and Grigori correct? And the wisp I guess. Troll hunting is fine with Kip. He will follow his "benefactor(s)" wherever... ;)

We will do what we must for the good of Kardas...anyone else out there????
Casimir |
In the small hours after the wedding celebration, Casimir makes his way to the top of the bell tower of the cathedral. Sipping absently from a goblet of wine, he lets his gaze wander across the view of the land laid out before him in the dawning light.
"Such a frail nation we rule...enemies without and within...Trolls, wisps, Lizardfolk, Boggards, Pitax, Mivon and...who knows...? Can we ever hope to keep it safe...probably not. But we can damn sure try." he thinks to himself.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
I think we may as well do another kingdom turn- the amount of crafting alone is quite substantial. I will be resuming the game tomorrow (the 4th)- can everyone please get their various things updated. This means calendar for Casimir (only needs to be brief, I do use it to keep track of events), city diagrams for Ilya, and Maps/Spreadsheets for Malthir. Please let me know when we're fully up to date and if you wish we'll run another kingdom turn to round off the wedding and crafting etc. If your not up for another kingdom turn we'll have to start working out how many days of crafting that all took and no one wants that right...? Also you have very little pressing you at the moment- it would give some characters time to investigate the tavern Karina mentioned if you wished...
Malthir Al Dagon |
Glad you are back! Just waiting for Casimir, Fenna, Ilya, and Kalev to chime in on the monthly action post. If they are good with it I can kick off the rolls or someone else can.
Also remember, Fenna/Ilya, if you want to build something in your city please make the recommendation. If not my plan is to complete a few more buildings in SwordHaven (Arena/Garrison/couple of mansions) and then start to work on the other cities. I want to get SwordHaven up to two city districts so we can sell multiple items there as soon as possible as well as some expansion on the kingdom.
Malthir Al Dagon |
Remember a new district will add 1 to your consumption too, just noting that for when it happens.
Understood, it will be a couple of more turns before we get to that so I hope to be building a farm every turn going forward so we build a little bit of a buffer.
Casimir |
I'll try and sort out the dates later today. Casimir will definitely be interested in investigating the tavern. Actually, he would probably do this immediately after Karina's return. I've lost track of whether or not time has moved on or not, with the wedding cut-scene and what-not.
Casimir |
Almanac updated to the 20th of Abadius, the day Karina returned. The wedding is on 1st of Calistril, but I have some business with the Karina/Grigori affair that I want concluded in ret-con before we officially do the wedding and Kingdom management.
Kip Bendybrook |
Kip is also interested in further examination of the Karina/Grigori plot... and will assist Casimir in any way he can. Otherwise, not having crafting or anything else pressing to do, he will throw his energies into the lycanthropy cure research. There is also the matter of the large gem of Gyronna to deal with...

Great. I was specifically going to ask Kip along. I'm busy with some work right now, but I'll post on the matter in a couple of hours.

Those researching, make any knowledge checks you deem appropiate to the lycanthropy at +2 circumstance from the library. Fenna, your Moonlight Mantle revelation gives you an additional +2 to this research and a seperate +2 bonus for the length of time Fenna has spent on the research in comparison to the others.

Wedding:
As the post-ceremony celebrations go on, the light of day fading away to reveal the night sky which Fenna seems to find so comforting, the pale woman approaches the newlyweds with a closed wooden box in her hands. "Your joining has inspired great happiness amongst the people of Kardas, even more amongst we Statkari, and the joy you find in each other stands as a symbol to us all of the good that can be wrought by standing together."
Holding out the box, she continues, "I would like to give you another symbol, one of rulership and the rights and responsibilities that such a position holds." Pausing, she opens the lid to reveal a delicately worked circlet; a smaller, more feminine match for the one worn by Malthir, "You already have one of these, Malthir, but I thought it only right that our Baroness should recieve the same honour."
-----------
Kingdom Management:
"Perhaps some housing," Fenna suggests, "would be useful in Vierkirche, that those families who tend to the cathedral could have thier own homes, rather than relying upon the modest accomodation within. Beyond such, I am happy for our development of the capital to remain the focus for now."

After Kip has presented his present for the happy couple, Kalev approaches, also holding a wooden box in his hands. He bows deeply to the two, before speaking, Vaysh, Malthir, I hope your love will shine like a beacon for the young Kingdom of Karas and that it will never be poisoned by the hardships before us. For my part, I present this...
Kalev opens the wooden box, in which are two fine cups, carved from some kind of bone and inlaid with a few citrines.
Any liquid poured into these cups will turn dark black if there's any trace of poison in them. In addition, Citrines are said to grant health and riches, something I wish for both of you.
Kalev then steps down again.
Retcon!
Malthir immediately fill the two cups with wine, A fine gift from a good man! To Kalev, and Kardas!
The happy couple raises a toast to their quiet, but brave cohort.

Vaysh blushes slightly at the gift or it might be from the wine, it has been a long day, Fenna, you have been a true friend to me from the first day we met, I will treasure this circlet from you, knowing it is just another example of our friendship! and embraces the Gnome in a fierce hug.
Fenna Thistleswade |
"Your friendship has been like an anchor for me," Fenna says warmly as she returns Vaysh's embrace, though with somewhat less vigour, "without your presence I might not have had the strength to come this far... I was deeply saddened when you decided that you could no longer join us on our ventures as a Guardian, but now you fill an even more important role; while Malthir is away with us, you must act as the sole ruler of Kardas... it is as though you were always fated for this."
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Kip's contacts reveal little, but some furious research from both of you- a combination of Kip's knowledge about flora and fauna and Fenna's discovery of several references in holy texts to lycanthropy and a rare herb have led you to conclude that a deadly poison- Toluene, could save Kundal from his monthly curse. The herb is extremely rare and only the elves in Kyonin grow it, where they call it by another name- Wolfsbane. Consulting with Ilya, he thinks he could secure some for a small discount; but with the cost of importing it accounted for, it would take a month for a single dose to arrive in Swordhaven- and it would cost 600 gold pieces in total. It is also not guaranteed to break the curse- it depends upon the strength of the individual consuming it as well as whether he survives the lethal poison.
So, Casimir and Kip are travelling off to the inn Karina mentioned on horseback then?
Ilya Shukhov |
Ilya shares with the others the results of their careful investigation. "There is a cure available, if expensive. There stands the question of what to do with him for an entire month, likely to include that troublesome lunar cycle, as well as the six hundred gold pieces required for manufacture of the antidote."
Casimir |
Ret-con info: The following takes place immediately after Kressle has escorted the weary Karina away.
Casimir ponders the information given by Karina and the discussion among the others a bit. He then pulls out a sheet of parchment and an ink pen and hastily scribbles something down.
He then discreetly takes Fenna aside and hands her the paper. "I know it drains your strength, but I would ask you to commune with the stars again tonight. I would very much like to know the answers to these questions."
#1: Is Karina truthful in her account of her capture and escape?
#2: Are citizens of Mivon conspiring with Grigori against Kardas?
#3: Does Grigori still hold power over Karina?
#4: Is the power of the Gyronna cult broken?
#5: Will Karina again attempt to harm any members of the Council?
#6: Will Grigori again attempt to harm any members of the Council?
Once he is done talking to Fenna, he moves over to Kip. Master Bendybrook, if you feel up for a horseback ride, I could use your assistance in investigating a certain inn to the south. We ride as soon as Fenna relays the results of her divination to me.
Kip Bendybrook |
Kip smiles at the notion of a bit of travelling, but immediately remembers the trip is not for pleasure. I am at your disposal Casimir. I am more accustomed to travelling upon mine own two feet, but time is not on our side. I will be ready to go when you are. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go see a man about a pony.
Kip bows before turning and making his way out of the castle. He heads off to the nearest stables, intent on purchasing a pony for the trip.
EDIT: Will Kip be needing any camping supplies? Tents, rations etc.?
Fenna Thistleswade |
Fenna nods to Casimir, "Of course, I will endeavour to learn what I can... I will find you with whatever answers I uncover."
...
Returning to find the spymaster of Kardas, the gnome looks, if such were possible, paler than ever. Leaning against a wall with a shaky hand, she speaks a little above a whisper as she holds out the same piece of paper she was passed earlier, now bearing additional annotation, "here are your answers, I am afraid they might not be so enlightening as you had hoped, but they do highlight how important our next actions are; Karina's fate is not yet decided, so we must take great care to guide her towards the proper path."
Casimir |
As soon as Casimir receives the answers from Fenna, he prepares to leave. He holds his wife tight, and asks her not to let Karina out of her sight - both for her own protection but also because the extent of Grigori and Gyronnas influence on her is still unclear.
He then rouses Kip and the two set off at a hard gallop south.
When they near the Inn, Casimir reigns in his horse and instructs Kip to go ahead without him.
"Take a look about the place, and then seat yourself in the common room. I will arrive in a short while and soon start to ask questions. You make sure to watch my back while I do so. And let me know before I enter, if there is anything I need to be aware off. We communicate via message. Now go!
Kip Bendybrook |
As they near the tavern, Kip nods in understanding. I will not have to try too hard to play the weary traveler... a pint sounds quite delightful at this point.
He nudges his pony in the direction of the tavern... leaning in to whisper to his new mount while stroking the pony's neck, Just a bit further... and you too can have a rest, Spiced Apple Rum Cake. We both did a fine job on this ride. Well, you more than me! But you are more experienced than I at this sort of thing. Kip chuckles softly to himself.
Kip will do as requested of him.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Unclear can also be interpreted simply as the higher agents you contact do not know; they are not omniscient. For those confused about timeline, this is still technically before the wedding. Malthir & everyone not on the trip to investigate the inn, please feel free to plan the next kingdom turn.
1d100 ⇒ 81
1d100 ⇒ 79
1d100 ⇒ 64
Casimir and Kip set off, estimating that the journey will take them two days each way as they don't want to kill their mounts in the journey by pushing them so hard. The pair ride east and then south, crossing the Gurdin River at the only natural ford in the area to the south-west of the tomb the group explored. Riding past the mud bowl in which the Tendriculous was fought, the pair spend the evening together, enjoying their rations and taking it in turns to keep watch.
1d100 ⇒ 100
You are painfully aware that the dangers you've come across this far south have always been more potent- trolls, wyverns, the tendriculous. The night does pass without incident, but the next morning as you continue south-west towards the Little Sellen River you notice some monstrously large pawprints heading south-east. Each pawprint is large enough for both of you to stand in comfortably and the creature that made the prints clearly walks on two legs. you also get the impression it is extremely pissed off. Entire small groves of trees have been simply torn apart in its wake.
Knowledge Nature or Arcana if you spend some time studying the pawprints. I didn't want to assume you ignore them so please decide if this has made you want to investigate further- it will take you in a different direction to your destination though.
Day 2 of Kip & Casimir's Adventure, Morning.
I've assumed Brunos still pretty wrapped up, but if he has the time to post im happy to retcon that hes been with you on this sojourn all along.
Kip Bendybrook |
Kip lets out a low whistle when he sees the tracks. I'm not sure I want to know what made these tracks... but... Kip does his best to identify the source of the tracks.
Knowledge Arcana 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Knowledge Nature 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Kip, for one, would be glad to have Kalev along. :)
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
With some difficulty, Kip identifies the tracks as belonging to an gigantic Owlbear- but if this is true, such a beast must be among the largest in Golarion, and with a temper to match its size...
1d100 ⇒ 68
1d100 ⇒ 45
1d100 ⇒ 18
1d100 ⇒ 57
By the end of the second evening, Kip and Casimir can see a fairly small structure looming. As they get closer they see its a rather homey looking tavern, with a small space for horses to be tied up with a simple shelter to keep them out of the rain. The interior must be quite cramped- the tavern consists of two floors but the available floorspace in each must be about 25x25 feet at the most. Entering, Kip can see the place is a far cry from The Lonely Hippogriff back in Swordhaven. A smoky, cramped and vomit-stained place with dirty looking tables and dirtier looking patrons, Kip looks somewhat out of place as he enters. There are less than a dozen individuals in the tavern, all of them but the barkeep sat in two small groups. They are fairly well armed although none of them wear armour, and have the look of hunters or possibly bandits about them. They turn and stare pointedly at the newcomer, while the one eyed barkeep with a hideously scarred face squints at Kip with his one good eye. A small set of stairs in the corner of the room leads up to what you assume must be the tavern keepers personal quarters.
Day 2 of Kip & Casimir's Adventure, Late Evening.
Kalev Lehola |
Hi, back. Sorry for the silence. Have simply been swamped with work and other business. I'd be happy to go along on the "Adventure", but it is up to Casimir and Kip.
Kip Bendybrook |
Kip casually nods a greeting before nonchalantly taking a seat at the end bar. He orders an ale from the barkeep, paying with smaller coins and tipping modestly. He does his best to look over the patrons and barkeep without being too obvious.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Given an opportunity when attention is not directed his way, he attempts to message Casimir. About a dozen rough looking individuals. If you tarry too long I might find myself relieved of the balance of my coin purse. One entrance, stairs to second floor...
Kip really hopes Kalev is along for the trip. :)
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
The barkeep looks at you suspiciously before sliding you an ale, almost slamming your tankard down before you. He leers at you menacingly for a moment before seeming to calm himself, moving off to serve another round of ales for one of the tables. You use this time to send a message to Casimir and Kalev. When he returns, the barkeep sits directly opposite you and sighs deeply. He leans in and whispers to you-
Look runt, I weren't born two summers ago. Yer to well dressed for me humble 'stablishment. Yer not in here for a drink in a local tav'en, so just be telling me yer business and out with yer. Strangers make them there lads all nervous-like, so its best fer us all if ye be quick.
No problem Kalev we all get busy sometimes, we'll assume you went along too- it made sense thematically.
Kip Bendybrook |
Has Kip noticed any man that looks like his nose has been broken in the past few days?
Kip Bendybrook |
I make them nervous?! Well, isn't that turnabout!
Kip meets the barkeep's gaze and replies in a calm voice, You are as astute as any barkeep I have met in my travels, but at this moment, all I really desire is a good mug of ale. It has been a long ride this day. I assure you that I intend no trouble. I do, however, seek information.
Kip takes a sip from his mug, relishing the taste as it washes away the dust and dryness of the road, while removing a single gold coin from his pouch and placing it upon the bar where only the barkeep can see it.
Would you be willing to answer some questions I have?
Hurry up Casimir, I can't stall much longer! ;)
Any ideas as to what part Kalev is play in our plan?
Malthir Al Dagon |
Malthir will spend the month of Calistria working with the people of Kardas, there are many things they can help us with.
First, Malthir has informed the merchant council of the Statkari's plans for an Arena. This will bring travellors from throughout the River Kingdoms and Brevoy to Kardas. Ilya helped fuel the fire for this idea, he convinced Malthir of the potential for trade it could bring to SwordHaven as well as the entertainment value for the city.
Second is stone. The Arena and the plans for the city walls that Malthir has started will require massive quantities of stone. This will also require many laborers. The call goes out for these workers. Hundreds, maybe even thousands will be needed to complete the work that it will require.
Third, the plans for a standing army continue. Kesten is placed in charge with the recruiting, as well as the plans for the Garrison that is being built just after the arena.
Fourth, Malthir and Fenna stay busy negotiating the land request from a Noble family from Brevoy, they are cousins to House Medvyed, and Malthir's father was pivotal to bringing the family to Brevoy. The estate construction started last month and the main building should be finished around the end of the month. It will be the first true "Noble Family" to move to Kardas.
Fifth, Malthir and the coucil talk about Kip becoming the Magister of Kardas. Although he is not an "official" Statkari yet, having him fill this role as Vaysh oversees the workers being recruited and working with the Noble family is taking up much of her time.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Finally. Ask yer questions first and i'll think of a reas'ble price for yer, halfling.
Kip Bendybrook |
My apologies for the delay. I really didn't want to hold up the game... again.
Kip nods at the barkeep. Agreed. I am seeking corroboration of some claims made by a certain individual with whom I had recent contact with. More to the point, I am hoping to learn if an attractive younger human woman has recently frequented your establishment. She would have been in the company of a flamboyant human man, who fancies himself quite the orator.
It would have been difficult to miss them as they would likely have arrived in the early hours before dawn a few days ago, riding upon a conjured flying mount. They would have been as out of place as I am now.
So, have you seen these two individuals, and if so, can you tell me anything about what transpired here after they arrived?
Sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 19 For the barkeep's replies...
Kip glances at the other patron's to gauge if any of them seem interested in his conversation, and to make sure that non have attempted to gain an advantageous position with which to sneak up on him.
If it is possible, and without being obvious or detected, Kip would have everything he is saying relayed to Casimir and Kaylev via the message spell.

Theres no way you won't be noticed whispering to yourself, the barkeep is right in your face.
The other patrons continue to glance at you, and a couple stare at you outright. You don't feel very welcome.
Aye, they were here a few days ago. Woman was, er, quiet-like. E' left er' down 'ere while they used the meet'ng room yonder. he
replies, gesturing up the stairs.
Charm'ng fellow in a purple hat, paid in plat'num for a meeting with these blokes from Mivon with fancy blades. The lady didn't seem to take kindly to one of the lads trying to take 'er in the corner, so she beat him to the floor and ran. That'll be three gold coins sir 'alfling.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
He's definitely holding something back, but you can tell hes doing it so you continue to enquire and he can charge you more for the information.
At this point, Casimir and Kalev enter to the same cold, staring eyes that Kip entered to. None of the men make a move but a few of them seem nervous at this point. The barkeep growls at Kip as though wanting him to make it quick.
Kip Bendybrook |
I just thought that due to the fact Kip was already whispering his conversation with the barkeep, that the message spell may have been triggered. :)
Kip glances at Casimir and Kaylev before removing three additional cold crowns from his pouch, placing them next to the one already upon the bar. Assuming the barkeep makes a gesture to take them, Kip waves his hand away. I am not finished. I see that I have progressed from "runt" to "halfling" to "sir halfling". I wonder what title I am to receive next? But I digress...
I believe you know more than you are presently telling me. If you wish to continue our arrangement please allow me to continue with my questions.
It is curious that your answer to my question is almost word for word the very same as that given by the woman. Almost as if it had been coached, or rehearsed...
Kip strokes his chin thoughtfully while thinking, Magical compulsion? before continuing.
How do you know these men, meeting with the one wearing a purple hat, were from Mivon? And not somewhere else? Do you know their names?
What happened to the man in the purple hat? Did he go after the woman?
Pause to allow DM and fellow player intervention...
