I think that was for me. I think I'll go for a suit of +1 studded leather armor. It'll cost 1080gp, after I sell my old set. Not much else I really need/can get with that amount.

Right, I haven't had time to consider my gear yet.
I'm going to follow Io's example and get a +1 chain shirt. (1125 GP spent, plus my old one sold.)
Some of the remaining GP is set aside for the Court's needs, the rest I'm keeping for now.

I think the rest of my plan was to go buy materials for, and begin work on a MWk Pepperbox. It should take 3 days to complete, so 1/3 days done unless I get interrupted. That should run me 1,600. I'll use the bulk of the remaining gold to purchase materials and craft 11 paper cartridges. That should put me towards sleepy times.

@The Black Merlin, or two days using the Gunsmithing feat without having to make Craft checks, since that uses the 1 day for every 1,000 gp of the weapon ala magic item crafting rules. Either way, just remember the pepperbox has a misfire of a 1-3 using paper cartridges. I'll look at allowing advanced firearm creation down the road as you level.

Sorry, folks, it's been really busy settling into a new semester - and team-teaching my first course! (I'm really following my colleague's lead right now, but I'll have to start thinking a bit more about what I want to do with things soon.) I'm happy with just disposing of the shiver and posting our characters' plans for the rest of the day in the gameplay thread and then moving on, doing our gear purchases behind the scenes, unless others would prefer to explore Korvosa's shops.

Sorry for being a bit behind, folks.
Work is being pretty crazy as of late.
I'm all for meeting at Zellara's, but I'll probably need to do my shopping behind the scenes once things clear up.
Thanks for understanding.

Same, pretty much. College is going full-force and I'm lucky to get a strategic combat post out regularly, never mind heavy RP. Io will just tag along with the group, leaving the talking to those who like people, and making sure nobody surprises the group.

Apart from her reckless extravagance and the wand, for now I think Machaera will content herself with tracking down a few scrolls. Since we have a few days, she’ll be able to study them with read magic, so deciphering them won’t be a problem. As for scribing them:
Spellcraft (illusion of calm): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Spellcraft (heightened awareness): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Spellcraft (protection from law): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Spellcraft (charm person): 1d20 + 12 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 12 - 5 = 21
Not to worry, she’ll scribe a copy of protection from law to replace the one from the party fund she used to learn the spell. Also, she’ll try to brew up some troll styptic, using crafter’s fortune: Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 5 = 20 Gosh darn it, sorry folks. None of that this week. :(
As I reckon it, that leaves Machaera with 719 gp, 6 sp, to save up for other stuff if she cuts her losses but prepares more alchemical goop to try again next time.

Hello, everyone. This is just a quick note to say that I might be quiet for the next few days: I've got a major exam coming up on Monday, after which I can start thinking about another couple of major projects at school. I'll be taking breaks once in a while for sanity's sake, but until late Monday at least I might only be able to post briefly at odd moments, so don't wait up for me, and feel free to bot Machaera as necessary.

So much for comedy, now for the evening news.
Sorry, all. I was out Monday late night/Tuesday late night in the ER due to kidney stones and diabestes. I had today off as well. So onto the queen.
Good heavens! Thanks for letting us know, but don't worry about us. Take care of yourself first, and we'll move along when you're feeling better. I hope you have as easy a recovery as you could wish!

I've been quite busy at work lately, and have really lost track.
Could someone please catch me up on what Heads' share of the loot from Gaedrenn was? I know his axe was upgraded to +1 from that houserule that's still kind of confusing me, but I'm quite lost otherwise.

Hi, everyone! Sorry for the radio silence! Spent the weekend travelling back home and finishing off a thesis prospectus for school, which took longer to sort out than I had hoped. It’s rather embarrassing to think about how much I needed to put in so I could be at all confident that my readers could follow my crazy ideas as they bounce of all over the place. I’ll probably post in character later today.
For now, though: Headsman, you upgraded your axe with crazy woo-woo rituals, so we sold Lamm’s axe. As far as I can tell, based on your posts, from the resulting shares of the treasure, you’ve got 1 696 gp – 1 125 gp (trading in your old chain shirt for a +1) = 571 gp left, less whatever you may have spent dolling yourself up to meet the queen.
That doesn’t include the chest full of gold we just got. From that, everyone gets another 291 gp, and four lucky people get an extra gold piece. (Machaera’s a mage, so she’ll be one of the other two.)

            Ahh, thanks Machaera!
So that's 862 gp now, minus 100 I consider expended on getting the Court into better shape. (Take note, GM. :P)

Noted. However, just as an FYI, we can use the downtime/organization rules from Ultimate Campaign and Intrigue if you want other things to dump your money into then da stuff and shiny magic things. They can add things like crafting benefits, skill roll bonuses, the ability to call upon spellcasting or other resources, and so on.
For Yanis, power stones (psionic scrolls) or low grade dorjes (aka psionic wands) are a good start if you want expendable magic.

Hmm. Planning. You know what they say about going to the elves for counsel, right?
I worry about splitting the party too much, but that’s partly because Machaera’s a bit of a glass cannon, and partly because I don’t want anyone to feel left out the first couple of rounds after we synchronize watches and get ready to roll initiative. Nonetheless, I’m willing to try it.
Any thoughts on whether we should try to outflank through the butcher’s shop if we can, or just have a second group pile through the front door once a fight breaks out?
In terms of troop distribution, how about Headsman/Albatross/Machaera and Io/Merlin/Yanis? In character, I can’t imagine Headsman being happy to hold back too long if vengeance is on the table, and I think the Albatross knows the most of us about how these deserters operate. If we’re willing to risk primal/wild magic to indulge your crazy witch as part of the clever and cunning plan, we could pitch the wannabe mercenaries a sob story about a curse on Machaera that’s making her magic all screwy, but that with their help we can track down and pay back the person who done it. Not particularly subtle, but it might give us a couple of rounds to get everyone in position. Someone with actual ranks in social skills should probably do the talking. :)
Just some ideas. If we really want to send in only one or two folks first, and if anyone’s rip-roaring to be first through the door, I have no objections.

It sounds like we have a roof team and a ground team. I would deffo like to try to rappel in through a second story window, guns blazing if we meet the first wave in the street. Get 'em in a pincer.
Just an idea.

Aw, heck, I always forget to think in 3D for the more acrobatic folks. And I should definitely put a rank in Climb at some point. Anywho, why don't we split the difference, then, with Headsman, Yanis, and Machaera causing a fuss at the front door, everyone else, who're more mobile anyway, going for the big entrance through a second-story window or whatever's available?

| Machaera Selanna |

Hmm. If Machaera and Yanis are in the same group, it would be alright to skip her. Besides, telepathic contact with an insane witch might not be everyone's idea of a fun time. :)
Incidentally, GM, could we get a ruling as to whether one can voluntarily fail a concentration check? No worries either way, but just to know as we go ahead, so that I can streamline rolls later on.

Insanity is in the perception of the thought reader. As for the concentration check, sure you can voluntarily fail it. It will bring interesting shenanigans down the road. Also, should you wish Machaera, Rogue Genius Games has a 3rd party class called the chaos mage that is the Pathfinder version of the wild mage. I can convert over the older 2e wild mage spells as well if you like. 2e players and Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 expanded edition will know those spells, like Nahal's Reckless Dweomer or Wildstrike.

Honestly, simpler might be better by just having the group attempt to hire them and push for one big surprise round, if only to save some back and forth on the boards. We'd just have to weigh the disadvantages (possible escape) vs. the real world logistics of crafting a plan.
That said, I'm game for what the group wants ans since it appears we've already started down the 2-party plan, Corvus is ok with either position. Since the vigilantes have ranks in disguise and bluff, at least one of us should be moving in, trying to convince them.

I don't really have a ton to add here, but I figured I should post something, just to avoid not posting for a week or so. Io is good with whatever, and each approach has its pluses and minuses.
Oh, and I do know about the throwing shield. My starting one has that property. Plus, I have a class feature that allows me to sort of mimic it.

            Indeed!
Corvus, I hope we're not pressuring you into a plan you don't like. I think anyone can go pretty much anywhere they please. Another person on the ground floor might help us get through any resistance there that much faster to join up with the second-story folks, since we don't know where in the shop exactly Vancaskerkin is likely to be lurking. I think Yanis has put some ranks in Bluff, so it's up to you if you'd like to do the sweet-talking of the deserters or join the Black Merlin in a dramatic entrance.

            Hello, everyone,
Just a quick update: this month coming up is going to be brutal on my end, between the regular end of term, a couple of editing jobs that are proving nastier than normal, and then really nasty stuff going on at work. (Ugly, and political, so I won’t trouble you with the details.) I’ll try to keep up as best I can, but if Machaera fades into the background for a couple of days here and there while things keep moving, that’s OK by me.
