Dandi will keep the +1 magical beast bane dagger and have her ghost touch put on that, I think... if no one minds...

Otherwise, I'm good with selling the lot. Unless we need a boat. Do we need a boat?

Male Human (Init +7 | Per +16 | Fort +16 Ref +15 Will +11* +1 enchant, +4 language & sonic | AC 32 (f25/t19) | CMD36*)

I like the idea of keeping some of the utility items. Immovable rods could come in handy for, say, blocking doors or giving Barael a really effective wedgy. I know elves hate spicy food, but the spoon is very appealing to a nomad like Fondo. As does the everfull flask. He would want them if no one else does.

The feather token has a similar appeal, though actual use in this party seems a bit uncertain. Perhaps we should discover the route to Scarwall first. And come on, it's a freakin' swan boat. What elf doesn't want one of those?

Male Human (Per +18 | Fort +12 Ref +16 Will +12 | AC 24 (f 19/t 17)| CMD 30/f 25)

To completely stay on-topic today, no one is taking my rod. I moved heavenly earth to get it, I'm keeping at least one of them.

Male Human (Init +7 | Per +16 | Fort +16 Ref +15 Will +11* +1 enchant, +4 language & sonic | AC 32 (f25/t19) | CMD36*)

I wonder if we'll meet any incorporeal magical beasts anytime soon? :-p

Sorry for the lack of posts. This old dog is taking some time to recover from a long weekend of debauchery. I went to sleep at 8:00 last night. I got a full 8 hours but I don't want to rush this trip to The City. I'll finish my dealings there and finalize my level when I get back from work this afternoon.

After some internal debate, I'm actually going to take infernal healing, greater, instead of Enlarge Person, Mass. Ultimately, Nikolay doesn't care about good/evil designations. It's what you do that matters to him and the party could use another source of healing.

Nikolay will also look for a scroll or spellbook of infernal healing (the level 1 spell) in Kaer Maga.

Nikolay will then craft at least one wand of infernal healing depending on how long they stay there.

If anyone objects to a little evil taint, be sure to let Nikolay know.

You tell 'em, Sward! Good? Pfft! Evil? Pfft! All that matters is that they bend magic to their will...the aims don't matter too much.

The Elf totally has your back. About time you saw the Nethyse light.

No real objection, but it would I believe have an impact on Charlie's targeting if holy smite. Just so that's clear.

I have definitely not been cheating enough. Leveling up I see all the abilities I've forgotten about.

I've updated the treasure sheet with the current totals for everyone after the recent sales. I think there may be more items sold, but this at least gets you started.

Also, Fondo suggested 7 days rest in Kaer Maga for crafting and preparation. No one has really suggested more or less so let's go with that for now.

Male Human (PER +6 | FORT+15 REF+9 WILL+11 | AC 26 (F24, T14) CMD28)

Save or die spells.

As I've learned in my campaign, at these levels, the save or die spells aren't really that for the bad guys. They might cripple one member of the party or cost the use of a breath of life spell, but it's the only thing they have to affect the party sometimes. Also, the saves of most party members at this point significantly reduces the odds of it being effective. So, feel free to use them against Nikolay. On the flip side, I will still avoid them from a player side as usually there are only one or two bad guys and they don't have the luxury of a healer or someone else to negate or reduce the effects.

Thanks for the info Nikolay and I think you're largely right. Still, I'll use them sparingly (with one exception where I have no choice) and give everyone one more Harrow Point (which allows will rerolls) so you should be fine.

Seriously, I don't mind keeping things in check, though finding decent spells that aren't Save or Die seems to get harder as you go up.

Euan, did we cheat or did you allow the crafting of the wand of Blessing of Fervor? I'm not sure about crafting wands outside my spell list.

Wand wonderings.

We still have 35 charges of Blessing of Fervor, but we might not have more time to craft for a while.

Would a wand of magic missile (9th level, 5 magic missiles, 3,375 GP) be useful for any our non frontline fighters.

Ultimately, the wands are not really useful for Nikolay in combat, but he's happy to help the party.

Nikolay is going to blow most of him gold on some armor.

Male Human (PER +6 | FORT+15 REF+9 WILL+11 | AC 26 (F24, T14) CMD28)

Shopping time:

Mithral full plate of speed (26,500) - Nikolay isn't proficient until next level, but who knows if he'll have time then. He can also wear it now and take the -3 armor check penalty to attacks, etc.

Amulet of Natural Armor +2 (8,000)

First Aid Gloves (4,500)

Craft wand of infernal healing at caster level 1 (375)

Total spent: 39,375

Male Human (Init +7 | Per +16 | Fort +16 Ref +15 Will +11* +1 enchant, +4 language & sonic | AC 32 (f25/t19) | CMD36*)

Making perform checks, it strikes me that even the very best performer can only make a max of 6,570 gold in a year. Kind of puts in perspective how much gold is worth.

Male Human (PER +6 | FORT+15 REF+9 WILL+11 | AC 26 (F24, T14) CMD28)

Nikolay will use his arcane points to learn effortless armor and infernal healing and add them to his spellbook (10 gp + 40 gp = 50 gp total).

Nikolay Vasilevich wrote:

Hrm. I don't know, but the wand is on the manufactured list. Is it not that case that you can have someone else cast for you while you craft the wand/staff/etc.? I thought it was, but I could be mistaken.

If that's the case, and I think it is, then one of you could have cast that daily while Nikolay made the wand. If that's not the case then yeah, you cheated. :D

Quote:

If you need another character to supply one of an item's requirements (such as if you're a wizard creating an item with a divine spell), both you and the other character must be present for the entire duration of the crafting process. If the GM is using the downtime system, both you and the other character must use downtime at the same time for this purpose. Only you make the skill check to complete the item — or, if there is a chance of creating a cursed item, the GM makes the check in secret.

If the second character is providing a spell effect, that character's spell is expended for the day, just as if you were using one of your own spells for a requirement. If the second character is a hired NPC, you must pay for the NPC's spellcasting service for each day of the item creation.

Dandi is in the last bit of her shopping but is torn between two big purchases. One, an upgrade to her headband, she can afford on her own. The other, a lesser quicken rod, she needs to borrow 10,000. Is there enough left amongst us, and enough good will in the emotional coffers, for her to borrow that much?

Barael's sporting 3k ish, and it's available to the party coffers, with pleasure. Heck, we could even shed an immovable rod if necessary...

Sorry Dandilion I don't think the cash is there. Would be if you'd taken that whip...

I added the likely diamond dust purchases to the treasure sheet to help you figure out how much total cash is available. Barael is offering you money he doesn't have, unless he stiffs the party of course. :)

Male Human (Per +18 | Fort +12 Ref +16 Will +12 | AC 24 (f 19/t 17)| CMD 30/f 25)

38-35 =3 unless my maths be wrong, then I be wrong :) (Or that money was designated for other things already... that could very well be...)

Your math is wrong. The party is also spending 2kgp each on diamond dust for the level drains and raise deads. Unless you're not contributing to that... It really hasn't been decided, I'm just trying to move us along.

For some reason I had in my head that the armor check penalty would affect Nikolay's attack, but I only read skill checks now that I look more carefully. Anyone see it differently?

Armor Check Penalty: Any armor heavier than leather, as well as any shield, hurts a character's ability to use Dexterity- and Strength-based skills. An armor check penalty applies to all Dexterity- and Strength-based skill checks. A character's encumbrance may also incur an armor check penalty.

No, you're correct in your earlier thinking - it is a penalty to attack. I'm sure it's elsewhere, but if you look at the Armor Proficiency Feats (link) you'll see it says,

Normal: A character who is wearing armor with which he is not proficient applies its armor check penalty to attack rolls and to all skill checks that involve moving.

So yes, armor check penalties apply to your attack roll if you're not proficient with the armor type in question.

Also, a lot of gear was recently purchased, and a level. Please make sure the header stats next to your names on every post are current. I use those when I don't see updated information in your status spoilers.

Thanks!
