Everyone go ahead and have a look at the other PCs in the party. You would all know each other to some degree, feel free to post how much of your character background you would share with your fellow acolytes.
Philo, Drake needs an alias, ASAP.
Once everyone has checked in, I will get the gameplay thread going.

Hello all! Excited to get this one started... I haven't played a Kineticist since the playtest, so this should be a lot of fun. :)
@GM: It looks like our ratfolk has dropped out, since he/she was just here to accompany someone who wasn't chosen. Should we continue recruitment, or would you like one of us to find a replacement Aerokineticist? I have a few people in mind who would enjoy the game and be good additions.

Drake has a bit of a reputation in the house. Much of it comes because he was brought into the House off of the streets, literally. It took him a while to adapt to a place where you didn't have be prepared to fight for your stuff all the time and many students still see him that way. While he still has some of the street instincts, he's changed a lot by the ways of the house. Perhaps he does not have the philosophical bent of some of the others, but he's made a few friends as well as enemies.
p.s. any special format you want for our heading line?

Nalina, If you have mostly human, why do you need flesh chameleon? I think they overlap.
Mostly human lets her be treated as humanoid for the effects of spells and effects (which can be useful) while flesh chameleon lets her assume other skin tones (which I plan to use for roleplaying purposes). :)

Well that's annoying about the Ratfolk. Grey didn't get picked because it was between two pyros, and Annurian clearly put a lot more into her backstory.
But as I stated in the original recruitment post, we will run with four. If we lose another person the game will end early. Since this is an experimental one-shot I can't be bothered trying to keep it alive if people are flaky.
In the gender lines of your alias, please list HP, THP, Burn, ACs, Saves and Perception, thanks.

If you haven't already please take a look at my Absalom Aberrations game to get an idea of my posting/formatting expectations and how I run combat. Reading from the linked post to the end should give you a good idea. If anyone has questions please let me know.
I will be auditing posting frequency at the end of each week. If you have posted less than 7 times by next Thursday you will get a warning. Three strikes and you're out. Not posting while out of town or something is acceptable if you inform us first.
Otherwise, Gameplay is live.

Nalina stares at Drake for a moment, not sure if he's joking or just confused. She has a momentary thought that she should sneak up on him later to show him his error, but pushes the thought away as unworthy. Our masters at the monastery would frown on showing such pride in oneself. He will learn my worth, but I will not stoop to flagrantly showing off.
Did I miss something? Your sheet shows no ranks in Stealth, just the +4 Dex bonus. I'd see you 93% of the time. If you're sneakier than that, I apologize.
From his point of view, Anurian and Harsk are just getting okay at sneaking with +15 and +18.

Oh no it's fine, you're totally right, Nalina just wouldn't think of it that way. She's very lithe and feels as if she'd be very acrobatic and quiet, but you're totally right, she's not trained in Stealth at all. :)

Okay, good to know that it's a character thing. It would be interesting to see how it worked if she did try to sneak up on him over time.
Annurian
Unless she does try to do something quietly and you see she doing it, you shouldn't be looking at someone else's sheet to draw conclusions - we haven't been adventuring with each other, and this is just pure metagaming. I don't think it's that big of a deal, but I prefer to keep things more on the merit of RP'ing (as my character did - he simply thought it was weird someone would know so well how quiet another person moves the entire time without having any experience with each other). With an 18 DEX, she in fact looks quite dexterous until we find out how well can she sneak.
Dra'Kuran "Drake the Streetrat"
But we do know each other. We're from the same monastery. I will admit that we don't know everything about each other, but where one character focuses heavily on something and another has zero ranks I expect he'd notice the difference.
Harsk Ironback
I personally have to admit that I find the image of a hobgoblin wincing to himself every time Nalina walks around to be sort of funny...
It is a little odd, without passive checks the system stats sort of lie. Nalina's only bad at sneaking when she tries and fails. A very lucky person could always be quiet but never trained? (I mean that is not how stats work I realize, over time the ranks, etc make a big difference). But in theory Nalina could always be light as a butterfly until its time to sneak and then always run into a wind chime or finds the one squeaky floorboard. The system doesn't really say WHY someone is good or bad, only that they are.
I now also wonder how often a monastery might mirror a frat with pranks like ninja stalking and throwing elemental objects at the newcomers to make them dodge them, etc...
Dra'Kuran "Drake the Streetrat"
I know with some skills it's hard not to use them. I know somebody that is good at sneaking and she surprises people all the time. It's become unnatural for her to make noise when she walks.
We can also say that I've run into her when she got up at night and was trying not to disturb anybody's sleep.

You do know each other, as I've stated several times. It's assumed you've spent a significant amount of time living and training together in the House of Five Elements. There's nothing worse than starting a party of high level characters that don't have any history together or motivation to work together. That's why I encouraged you to read each other's sheets up above. Unless you character is specifically hiding stuff about themselves, you should know these other people about as well as you would someone you knew at school who you took many classes with over the years, even if you weren't necessarily good friends.

I suspect we're not going to pull off any fancy deceptions. None of us are dedicated face characters. I expect that if we bull through, we'll eventually find some clues. Or somebody will attack us.
Let them come.
I agree "bull in a china shop" might be our team motto.

Sorry, I'm still here. It's tough for me during social situations to come up with something to add in-character sometimes. I'll try to do better at just at least posting something like "Nalina nods her head", etc.

I am totally fine with that. Investigations are really difficult to do on PbP in general, so anything that can push us forward I think will be a good thing.

Hey guys,
I apologize in advance, but I will have to step down for a while from my activities here in the Paizo forums. It will be at least some good months before I can come back.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I hope your games continue fun!

I have a feeling that this encounter is way, way, way over our pay grade. Anurian going inferno let the bad guys all join up in one big encounter, and I don't think there's any way for us to survive without running. Maybe with five people, but not with three. We're outnumbered 3:1 with a couple of exotics and we have two displaced.
If we run, this puts us back in the "We're not investigators" mode of things.
So, what do we do about this?
DM Jelani
I didn't see this post until just now, but with only Nalina having posted I'm going to end this game. It's not my idea of fun to have to remind people to post, and yeah we're down to three PCs in a challenging mod with an unusual party makeup.
Sorry it didn't go to the end guys, but I feel like I gave it a good effort considering my original posting requirements for the game. Thanks for giving this a try! I hope to see you all again sometime in another PBP around here :)
