Crypt of the Everflame 5e conversion (Inactive)

Game Master Koldoon

As the end of the harvest season approaches, Kassen prepares for its annual Quest. Each year the town sends its dignitaries to the crypt of its founder to recover the eternal flame, in a spirit of renewal. Some years adventurous youth get to go instead, braving the dangers of the journey as a rite of passage to adulthood. Rumor has it, this is the year—your year.

I love this game!! Your doing a great job so I am sticking around (and I like Venssa too)

Male Were-Cabbage Secretary 12

I will check the game in the morning on Saturday, but I have a birthday party for my nephew, so, depending on how many posts I find before I have to leave, I may not post until evening.

Ummm, we may have lost Rankev. I just did a quick posting history search for his main and a couple of his aliases, and he hasn't posted anything, anywhere, so far as I can tell, since the end of November. So, like 16-17 days... Might need to bot him, in the hopes that he comes back, shoot him a PM to ascertain the severity of his absence, or, if he's gone for good, open up recruitment again? Just wanted to let you know GM Koldoon. Thanks for keeping things moving! :)

Male Were-Cabbage Secretary 12

Aldelenna: That was my conclusion too. I sent a PM a few days ago, and I'm hoping to hear from him. I'm going to give it a few more days.

Male Were-Cabbage Secretary 12

Okay folks -- my plan is to give Rankev a couple days to respond, but I have to say, it's not looking good. This guy posted profusely in multiple play by posts... several games, several times a day... and on Nov 30, he just stopped on all of them, all at once.

He never, as far as I can tell, signed any of his posts with a real name, and his main profile doesn't help much.

What are the players' preferences here? Should I recruit now for a new player? Continue giving him some time? Put Rankev on an autopilot of sorts and run him as an NPC?

Obviously the structure of the adventure makes a new player difficult, especially given that they would need to fulfill particular roles. But there are possibilities:

• Rankev's youngest servant could come to power. Maybe he's secretly a young bastard Vargidan child, or maybe he bargains for power as a warlock.
• Roldare is frightened and jumping at everything, and also half-mad. This makes him prime prey for a warlock pact.
• The characters missed an encounter en route with the town wizard. Maybe he's worried and sent an apprentice to follow the characters.
• Perhaps Roldare miscounted and there is one more townsfolk villager hiding from the undead.

Which is to say, if we can find a recruit, we can probably slip them into the game. The question is DO we recruit, or do we wait for Rankev.

And if we wait, how do you want to handle his character? Fade him into the background, run by group, or run as an NPC?

I prefer what the GM wants. If you can keep DMPCing him, I'm for that, as long as you can.

I've seen players have RL and technical problems that wipe them off the boards in an instant, only to have them return later.

cheers

Yeah...I would keep DMPCing him for somd time. Easier that way all the way around.

If you are okay running him as an NPC, Koldoon, then I'd agree that for now that seems like the best fit. Entirely up to your preference though. If you'd rather not take on that extra task, I totally understand that too.

Male Were-Cabbage Secretary 12

The consensus is clearly to keep playing him as an NPC to give Atlas2112 time to return. Given that he was a prolific poster, I think that's fair. We'll give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he resurfaces.

A8AA97

As above...once out we could always recruit a new member

Yikes! skeletons everywhere!

The Roll20 map has been updated. Cole, I know you'll need the google map updated, but I'm going to wait until after the skeletons go, since that will be your turn. I'll note in my post when the skeletons take their turn that the google map has updated also.

Hope everyone had a good holiday.

Just as a note: I'm not anticipating any problems, BUT I am in the path of the horrendous weather on the east coast of the US. It's anticipated to hit us hard tomorrow, and the winds could mean power outages. I'm hoping it won't be a problem. Even if we lose power I may be able to update via my phone.

You mean you don't want to look through 500 posts?

Bludgeoning weapons and spells seemed to have the most effect. Venssa was cleaning house with her staff.

Venssa is also benefiting from a spell that changes her attack bonus attribute and damage die, which can confuse things.

yes. You can level to 2nd. If you roll hit points, please roll in the discussion thread here... if you decide to roll rather than taking the official "median" by level value, you can reroll ones.

I think I got Aldelenna all updated. Realized a couple of things as I was doing the updating. I had her number of spell slots wrong. She's got three 1st level slots, even though she knows (now) 5 spells. I also traded out the illusion cantrip for vicious mockery. I think Hero Lab is giving the Jack of All Trades bonus to Initiative!? Is that right? Let me know if anything is screwy GM Koldoon. I put two links at the bottom of her profile page, one for abilities and one for spells, because I found that the statblock output for 5e characters from Hero Lab was woefully lacking.

Aldelenna:

It does seem to be adding the jack of all trades bonus to initiative. Let me investigate. I'm not sure I'd qualify initiative as a "skill" check, but I need to look into exact wording and make a ruling. For now, 1 point on initiative isn't going to hurt anything, especially with the group down one active player.

Just as a heads up:

Wednesday is, of course, Valentine's Day. Between work, trying to make a fabulous dinner, and trying to make the evening special, it is unlikely that I will manage to post tomorrow.

As folks might guess, you are entering the final stretch for the adventure. While we will certainly do some wrap up, I'm just checking on what people want to do. I started this as a one-shot with the possibility that we could continue. The adventure IS the beginning of a three adventure arc, so there are two other adventures, and I do have both of them.

What are people's feelings? I admit, the loss of Rankev really hurt... as a prolific poster and someone who liked the RP aspect, he helped keep things moving and made my part of the job more fun. At the same time, he left during the dungeon crawl, and there's only so much RP you can do when you're faced with zombies and giant spiders all the time.

I am a bit torn. The next adventure in this arc is a bit heavy handed on the RP aspect. What are folks thoughts as Crypt of the Everflame winds down?

Character Sheet Female CG Half-elf Bard 3: College of Lore | Rapier +4: 1d8+2 (P); Dagger +4: 1d4+2 (P); Light Crossbow +4: 1d8+2 (P) | | HP: 18/18 | AC: 13 | Saving Throws: Dex +4, Cha +6 | Init: +3 | Passive Perception 14; Darkvision 60' | | Speed 30ft | Bardic Inspiration 4/4 | Spells: 1st 4/4; 2nd 2/2 | Inspiration ( )

I for one would love to continue. I'm a bit familiar with the next adventure in the arc, and I do believe that is an adventure that would suit Aldelenna Dusksong much more than ranging around in dark tombs. :) I also think you're doing a bang-up job as GM Koldoon, so thanks for that! If you'd be willing to continue, I'd love to, and we could always recruit a couple more people. If I remember correctly we'd be travelling to a different town anyway, and it would make it easy to "write in" meeting new players.

Just my 2cp. :)

A8AA97

I agree with Aldelenna. You are doing a great job and I would love to carry on with the next adventure in this series. We might need to bring on a new player, but that would be ok.
