The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
Speaking of maps got me to thinking of combats.
This is how I would like to run combats. Let me know if you like it or no.
Upon combat start I roll initiative for the party and for the foe(s). I then take the average of each group's Init and the groups act accordingly as a group. Your order of posting is your order of Init. in your group for that round. If you want to hold for someone else in your group, just wait for them to post first. If you want to ready an action for an enemy, just say so, make the requisite rolls, and I'll include that in the round summary.
Oh, and I'll be doing summaries of each round to keep everyone on the same page.
How does that sound?
Half-Orc
Improved initiative is now a teamwork feat :D
Works for me.
Male Halfling Sea-Singer Bard 4 (AC: 17 [T: 14 /F: 14]; HP: 26/26; F+1, R+7, W+4; Init: +3; Perc: +9)
It works for PbP. I'm not a fan, but it works. I'm more concerned with visuals, as I'm very bad at doing it in my head.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
You mean the descriptions of what happens, Durvin?
Male Halfling Sea-Singer Bard 4 (AC: 17 [T: 14 /F: 14]; HP: 26/26; F+1, R+7, W+4; Init: +3; Perc: +9)
Group init works. No maps/visuals, is what I have a real hard time with personally.
Mostly like the representation of the location or where everything is in relation to one another. I've played Vampire before, and constantly had to ask the Storyteller to sketch out the location cause I wasn't able to follow along where they and we all were to decide what I would do.
Not having maps can lead to too many contingency rolls for me. "I will do this, unless they are beside me, then it's this, except if the one beside me is this one, in which case I would do this. If they are further than this, though, then I will do this." Just an issue I have without visuals.

group is fine speeds things up some
I usually prefer maps just to help visualize things.
Noro has very simple tactics anyway...
Male Emberkin Conjurer 3
I'm fine with Group Init, I suppose. I usually have done regular Init the times I've run PBP, but your way works. I'm with Durvin. Visuals help immensely, especially because I'll generally be casting spells, and range becomes a factor there. I can get away with chess-style coordinates, though, but preference is for maps. I have a Google Doc account which would let me post them up, or Roll20 is a good hosting site for running these kind of maps.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
I'm sorry. I think I had a miscommunication. I'm all for maps. I just need to know how youall would like them delivered. Maps=good. :)
Male Halfling Sea-Singer Bard 4 (AC: 17 [T: 14 /F: 14]; HP: 26/26; F+1, R+7, W+4; Init: +3; Perc: +9)
I can use just about any method except roll 20 (which I don't think I can access at work. The popular method seems to be google where everyone can move the icons themselves.

OK reck seems no matter which Game we are in together we both end up in the water
Half-Orc
That is true. If we get in to that Wrath of the Righteous I fully expect to be dunked in the river while fighting demons!

DING!
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to level 2!
Male Emberkin Conjurer 3
Yay! Rolling for level 2 HP.
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Boo ya. :D
Male Halfling Sea-Singer Bard 4 (AC: 17 [T: 14 /F: 14]; HP: 26/26; F+1, R+7, W+4; Init: +3; Perc: +9)
Is that how we're doing HP? I was about to ask. Often I see half, half+1, roll, or best of roll or half+1. So it often varies.
Male Emberkin Conjurer 3
I just assumed rolled. I can adjust everything as needed, but otherwise my stats are all adjusted for level 2.

awww yeah. feat selection, baby. Best part of the game.
Well, aside from actually playing, of course.

HP roll: 1d10 ⇒ 8
Not bad, not bad at all. I'll take it.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
I'll do the Better of Either. Some of us have bad dice luck and need all the HP they can get. :P
Female human fighter/3 HP 26/26 AC: 12 F:3 R:3 W:-1 init:+2 perc:-2
Question.
Looking at my feats I happened across one that I normally glaze over; my current selection of skills and character personality make it suddenly seem quite attractive, IF you rule it applies in my favor.
equipment trick
The section on "rope" is what interests me, and I'm wondering how applicable it would be while wielding a whip or a rope. It says "rope-like items" so I imagine it would work well enough, but it would be arrogant of me not to check first.
EDIT: going to hold off on that one; most of the good bonuses don't kick in for several levels. Whip mastery it is!
Male Halfling Sea-Singer Bard 4 (AC: 17 [T: 14 /F: 14]; HP: 26/26; F+1, R+7, W+4; Init: +3; Perc: +9)
HP Roll: 1d8 ⇒ 5, well it seems I'm getting 5 either way.
I will put together the other stuff (got a LOT of skill points to spend), but I do know I'm taking CLW for my spell.

anyway HP roll
7 or bust: 1d12 ⇒ 7
EDIT: ok looks like I called it ...
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
I'll allow combat trick(rope) to work with a whip. Just because it seems like most of those things are skills pirates would pick up of they carried whips.
Female human fighter/3 HP 26/26 AC: 12 F:3 R:3 W:-1 init:+2 perc:-2
cool, I'll keep it on my list for later levels.
Half-Orc
1d8 ⇒ 2. Looks like I'll take the auto hp instead.
I have a 90% chance of passing a DC 10 swim check, and a 70% chance of passing a DC 10 perception check. To save time, can we just say some time passes and we fill the pots?

Would you like to hang out until Noro finishes all on her own, or attempt to help her?

Noro will argue about Reck helping but she may eventually give in.
and if anyone comments about her inability to swim or the entire event will get a nice fat lip.
this is one of those situation where Noro is afraid to look helpless. In her mind that makes her look weak. Something she has always been trying to overcome since childhood.

all leveled and Now Noro can swim!!!
also forgot Noro can hold her breath for twice as long as everyone else so she can stay under longer hunting crabs (if she would just pass a blasted swim check)

GM Choon, sadly everything in the campaign tab was from the S&S game I'm running PbP. I pointed it to Lexi and sent her a copy, and I think she used it wholesale. Some of the things in it are based off changes I made for my campaign, and discussions we had. Things like the Rum rules and gambling were specific to my campaign.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
Oh. Well, if that's the case, then we can use those rules if youall want. You'll just have to catch me up on how its run.
Male Halfling Sea-Singer Bard 4 (AC: 17 [T: 14 /F: 14]; HP: 26/26; F+1, R+7, W+4; Init: +3; Perc: +9)
Oh, no, the point I was making is that they are more specific to my campaign. That may make them not the best for your campaign. I was just trying to clear up where she got the rules from.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
Ahh. I understand now. In that case, the PDF rules are probably best.

Hello all, I wanted to let everyone know. I will do my best to keep active, but right now is the time of year things are very difficult for my family.
this is the time My wife lost her brother and her mother. and many may know we are battling alcoholism. this time of year is the most difficult in coping.
we have made some positive step but the journey is so long I wonder if we can ever make it back to a normal life.
any way those of you that pray please keep us in your prayers, I need all the help I can to make it through Thanksgiving.
the next big hurdle will be January with the doldrums of winter with Christmas being over. I only hope we can make it clean and sober through the holidays.
If it matters at all, I have been clean for about 6 months now. my wife has been struggling to make her first 30 days. which will be on the 29th of this month.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
Will do. I pray (a lot), so you can count on me. I've met several people on these boards who are coping with issues similar to yours. I'm praying for the others, and now for you too! :)
Female human fighter/3 HP 26/26 AC: 12 F:3 R:3 W:-1 init:+2 perc:-2
Prayers aren't my thing, but know that I'll be here, come hell or high water, always ready to read the next post and roll the next die.
Male Emberkin Conjurer 3
Also not the organized prayer type, but my thoughts are with you, and I hope the powers that be grant you both the strength to get through the winter.
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
Just so everyone knows, I won't be expecting posts from anyone until next Monday. I'll be busy, but I'll have my phone so I will update and such if posts happen. I just don't expect it.
Happy Thanksgiving!
The Man. The Myth. The Mask!
If youall want to speed this up, you can roll all three groups at once using spoilers and just tell the person you're throwing rotten fruit and broken tools at on what rounds you hit them.
Example: I'm in group 1
Spoiler1=all my climb checks and a few reflex saves, just in case
Spoiler2=all my attacks vs group 2 (5-6 should be fine)
Spoiler3= all attacks for poor Sarenth (maybe limit it to 2-3)
Ooc= I hit group 2 person A on rounds 2 and 5
I hit group 3 on round 1
/ooc
Is this reasonable? That way this section doesn't take forever. I'll look through the rolls and let each of you know if any additional rolls are needed from you.
