"Your rote platitudes and evasive and limited so-called answers are noted and now part of public record as well." Eli states, flatly. "I will say this. Such empty words are a sign of the empty corruption of civilization. I pray to the spirits that inhabit your city that they stay their hand and wrath and find peace despite the empty gestures issued from those who should be most servile to all."

He watches the mayor for any hint of emotion.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

After a moment, he continues, as if he'd simply stumbled.

"I recognize you are not a wicked man, merely jaded and cynical. I am sorry for your loss and for the pain you endure as you serve others."

He bows low. In "respect".

Bluff: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23 Yeah, this is a total lie.

"Before you send us off for that remark, hold for a second," Cernan adds, having previously remained silent. Checking to make sure his words will be recorded, he speaks carefully, if not pleasantly. "You mention your experts on fiendish threats, but, well... this is not such a demonically-inspired city, and I do not know how informed your experts are. So I would like to add counsel of my own first, in the hope that it benefits your soldiers."

"The fiends we fought are the sort not known for their intelligence, leadership, courage or initiative. Imps are small, and weak, usually preferring murder to mischief—the slaughter of a town, though they might revel in it, is not something they could plan so flawlessly in the first place. There is a mastermind behind this. A lesser fiend would not be so crafty; to the best of my estimation, a greater one would not wish to deal with such miserable fiends."

"For a handful imps to destroy a whole town requires coordination from the sort of powerful fiend that likely commands more than just one handful. Or, we are dealing with a human master—one powerful enough to summon, employ or bind multiple fiends for a long duration. The magical items they carried were strange enough to any but a magic item crafter that this bears further consideration."

"We have been led to believe that this city may come into the line of fire—which is why we came here with all haste—but what my colleagues have not yet made clear is that we do not know, and should not underestimate, the true size, nature, or mastermind of the threat we disguise, and I beg that you not underestimate any risks either."

Arabeth waits politely fro the meeting to come to a close. ( I don't think she has anything more to add at this time. Every one else has been so super efficient. (^_^) )

Diplomacy:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 (Pretty much to smile, nod and simply be polite)

Male Human Mayor of Resplendent

Marius, the guards seem to be legit, simply ready to protect the Lord Mayor if your group starts getting angry/physical. Apparently that happens sometimes.

Cernan, the scribe seems to be legit, quickly scribbling throughout the entire meeting, unless there is a lengthy lull in conversation. The Lord Mayor seems somewhat formal and guarded, probably typical for an official hearing. There are no specific signs that he might be a summoner of some kind, but that doesn't mean much. You would know that his appointment to the prestigious position of Lord Mayor of the Capital was only possible because he came from a 'good' noble family, but also wouldn't have been possible if he wasn't a capable manager. Additionally, thinking about how nobility and governing positions work here in Theramark, you remember hearing that each monarch chooses his or her own successor. This is usually a son or daughter, but the current Queen Victoriana never married and has no children.

When Eli insults him, Lord Mayor Lincoln's jaw sets just a bit more firmly, but the reaction is not dramatic. Perhaps he is desensitized to insults. He starts to open his mouth to respond, but waits to hear Cernan's interjection, to which he nods in response.

"Your words of caution are noted and appreciated. The situation and possible culprit or culprits will be investigated and punished accordingly."

He looks back at Eli.

"I, too, pray for peace in this city, and will take action necessary to serve even those who misjudge my character."

His eyes sweep the lot of you.

"If there is no further testimony, then please, each of you, clearly state your name and current residence for the scribe."

You may add any final comments or questions for this meeting with the Lord Mayor, then everyone (except Chap and Aeryth) please post in character what name your character would give. You get the sense that the more complete the name given, the more preferable.
Also, as for temporary residence, please stick together as a group. Either everyone stays at the Cathedral in the four rooms offered by the Pope, or you all head to the Talking Turtle Inn run by Alice Treekeep's Aunt Bertha Bethel, or you all seek some other lodging.
Please vote on this in the discussion thread.
Thanks!

"Your assertion is surly all that can be expected." replies Eli without a hint of emotion.

He bows, his eyes remain fixed toward the mayor. "You may note that I am Elysium Blackdun of the Embishiu an Innkeeper and a Dreamspeaker. Surly my tribal ways seem strange to you. However I once ran for mayor of my village though I surrendered any chance of victory to a more noble candidate. Thus understand the toll such burdens can take upon those who accept such weighty responsibility. As you say all here is a matter of public record." With that, he rises.

Following Eli's example, Shyness simply states, "Shyness." There is a sense that she is on the verge of sticking her tongue out at the mayor before she follows Eli out.

she then curtsy's I am Sister Azmaria, as I mentioned before, but not your scribe can take note of it. I would like to apologize for some of my companion's behavior, many have never been in such a magnificent city. it is very new to them. "Just put me down as Marius," the woodsman shrugs. No sense in sharing more than needed. "And better put Rex down in the record too. You'll know who's who when you need us." Marius offers a slight grin, imagining Rex taking the leg off of an annoying governmental clerk. He shrugs, then follows the others out.

Poterol smiles and nods to the clerk, a job he had done quite a few times before, if in smaller towns and villages. "Poterol Leafblown, of the Moss Branch elves." He smiles sadly, "Though not lately, of course."
