Shyness looks around, trying to make sense of everything as she stands and pulls Cernan farther away from the fiery wagon, just able to notice Poterol standing over herself. "Brother Poterol," she yells, indicating Cernan.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Fumbling down off of the bucking mule, Marius reaches for the other silver arrow. Saving it for later seemed stupid, considering there might not be a later if this thing did that again...
Marius was not a particularly religious man, but he sure hoped all the saints in the sky were watching right now. He took aim and said a prayer to anyone and anything that might be listening.
Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 18

Zzz. Low is good right? Like golf?
How low does the imp appear to be flying? If it's low enough for Rex to do a charging leap at it, he certainly would try. But the smoke is likely billowing quite high, so... yeah.

Cernan the Patient |

Ooh! I'm awake! Do I get a move?

GM Angelina |

Shyness stands and drags Cernan a bit more away from the wagon, which also puts him next to the unconscious Arabeth. Poterol steps over and touches Cernan, and Cernan, lying prone, suddenly gains consciousness at 3 hp to see Poterol and Shyness standing over him, a badly burned Arabeth slumped unconscious on her horse next to him, and the cart burning nearby.
Poterol points up and over a bit from the wagon, asking his allies to "take it out," just as Marius shoots his second and final silver arrow in that general direction. The arrow, unfortunately, doesn't seem to hit anything.
Chap, although you can't see evidence of the imp's presence yourself, you could, based on Poterol pointing and Eli and Marius shooting, take a guess with a 50/50 chance as to which square it's in. You'd have to get higher than 50% to pick the right square, actually hit its AC with your attack roll, and then roll higher than 50% again to beat the concealment miss chance, hoping to do enough damage with your final silver arrow ... but you could try ...
Cernan, you may act now. If you succeed on a DC 20 perception check, you can tell where the imp is at the edge of the billowing cart smoke. Alternately, based on Poterol's pointing and Marius's shooting, you could roll a 50% chance to pick the right square to target for the imp even of you don't make the perception check. Or, you could take your turn to somehow heal the unconscious Arabeth next to you. Your call.
Marius, how does your aspect work? Do you still have 2 hp now, or do you go back to being staggered and thus drop unconscious now from the effort of shooting?
EDIT: Also, how high could Rex jump? I think the imp would be up too high, but let me know...

Cernan the Patient |

How high up is the imp? If it's 20' or less, I don't need to know the exact square and can just target the whole area with a Color Spray.

Marius Rizallo |

Marius can use his animal focus ability on himself for 1 minute per level as a swift action. While it doesn't specifically say what happens with the extra HP, I imagine it works like a bear's endurance spell would. I've also just realized I never applied one to Rex, and he gets to use it all the time for free! Oops.
As for Rex, I haven't the faintest idea, maybe 5 feet? I figure the imp probably isn't that low, but canines can do some pretty impressive stuff when they're determined. Any dog owner can attest to that :)
RexAcrobatics?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Ha! That settles that, then.

GM Angelina |

Chap takes a moment to focus and manages to notice the imp's location as the smoke billowing up and over from the burning cart shifts in an odd manner at a certain point about 35 feet up. You don't have any actions left this turn, but you could still speak a few words.
Rex growls and starts to run in the direction the imp flew, but his paws slip in the sandy terrain, and he fumbles into the dirt, not quite falling over, and still some distance away from the cart.
Sorry, Cernan, but the imp is out of color spray range, at least for now. You are lying prone next to Poterol, Shyness, and the unconscious Arabeth. You may take a turn.

Cernan the Patient |

Cernan stands, and heals Arabeth.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

GM Angelina |

Arabeth suddenly gains consciousness at 1 hp and finds herself badly burned and lying prone next to Cernan, Shyness, and Poterol, who are also burned, but not quite as badly, and who are standing up. The wagon is on fire a little ways over that way.
Arabeth, you may take a turn. Feel free to start with a perception check, if you would like.

*Arabeth* |

Perception:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Arabeth gasps in pain as consciousness returns to her.
Channel healing:1d6 ⇒ 2 (Every one within a 30' radius feels the effect)
Staggering to her feet she cries,
Tearing the brooch clasp across her chest. The great cape of feathers, now smoking, cindered and possibly still shedding sparks comes free of her shoulders.
With a whispered rustle the item drops and falls... only to billow, rise and stretch as the item's true nature is revealed.
No cloak of fashion but true pinions of the air. A great span of wings, now damaged and ravaged by the flames, spreads out from Arabeth's shoulders.
I'd also love to cast an Orison of 'Create water', but I believe it's only one spell per round. Will have to alternate for a while.

Sister Azmaria |

I don't know where Azmaria is right now, I was next to Arabeth, but I guess not now. so who is still down? I think I lost track a little. I remember my past action was Lay hands on Arabeth (which must be be done rather close I would assume)
perception cause it seems like the new fad right now: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

GM Angelina |

Sister Azmaria, yes, you're on the other side of Arabeth from Cernan, effectively flanking her. You healing her was earlier this same turn. (I should have mentioned you among those adjacent to Arabeth.)
Now that Arabeth is further healed, no one else remains unconscious (for the moment).
And, now that Arabeth has posted her action, you're all waiting on me to summarize what happened, what everyone's status is, what the imp's next action is, and what the results are.
It will probably be a big post, and take a while to check the math.
And, my work week starts early tomorrow/later today.
So, hang tight. It may be a few days. Enjoy being conscious while it lasts. ;)

Sister Azmaria |

the not unconscious is important with my drawback I take -2 to all rolls when a party member is unconscious and I am more than 10' away from them.
Arabeth stretches her wings and whack Azmaria in the head practically knocking her over.

GM Angelina |

Celestial Summons Game Post
Nine of you continue on the long trade road from Vigilant toward Resplendent, getting used to the routine of travel. A sense of urgency still nags at the back of your minds, but there's nothing else you can do for now.
Eli and Sister Azmaria sleep in the back of the cart each morning. Shyness and Cernan sleep in the back of the cart each afternoon. Aeryth, Marius, Poterol, Chap, Arabeth, and the mounts sleep at a makeshift roadside camp each night, while the four who slept during the day keep watch. And, the pattern repeats.
On your ninth day of travel, in the middle of nowhere, as you ride the road under the blazing sun of a particularly hot afternoon, things suddenly get a lot hotter. A low roar sounds as fire engulfs the entire lot of you, flames instantly covering people, mules, and cart in a blazing inferno.
Marius, Chap, Cernan, Arabeth, and Shyness take 23 fire damage and drop unconscious. (No one made a perception check high enough to see this coming. I rolled reflex saves for everyone in a discussion thread spoiler. Cernan and Shyness took extra penalties since they were sleeping.) Aeryth takes 23 fire damage, but remains conscious, barely. Rex, Sister Azmaria, Eli, Poterol, and the mules succeed on their reflex saves and only take 12 fire damage. (Let me know if any of you have something that I missed, like fire resistance or evasion, to lessen this.)
From somewhere well off the side of the road to your right, a nasty chittering chuckle can now be heard, along with a single word:
Only if you are conscious and speak fiendish:
However, nothing unusual can be seen in that direction.
Sister Azmaria, Eli, Poterol, and Aeryth find themselves badly burned, the cart on fire, the mules panicking, and their allies suddenly unconscious and possibly dying.
Before they can act, a singed-yet-growling Rex shoots off the road to the right and surges toward a point about 50 feet away, his jaws snapping viciously through the air. You hear something like a frightened squawk coming from seemingly nowhere, and yet somewhere near Rex.
Sister Azmaria, Eli, and Poterol can now act, more-or-less simultaneously. Aeryth's initiative is too low to act just yet, although he could speak a few words.
........
Sister Azmaria's divine glow washes over the group, bringing a small measure of much-needed healing to all.
All PCs and mounts (but not Rex) heal 1hp. Those who were dying are now stabilized. (Although, if the fire on the cart isn't put out soon, Cernan and Shyness won't be stable for long.) Marius and Shyness awake (Marius slumped on a panicking mule, Shyness lying in a burning cart next to an unconscious Cernan), but are staggered at 0 hp.
Eli charges to attack the air in front of Rex. As he swings down Mayor Daniel's greataxe, a horrible howl can be heard, seemingly from nowhere.
Poterol moves quickly to heal Closest Ally: 1d5 ⇒ 2 Chap.
Chap regains consciousness at 4 hp.
Imp Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Stinger Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Eli Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
An imp becomes visible between Eli and Rex as it stings Eli with its tail.
Eli takes 1 hp damage but manages to shake off the poison.
Eli would notice: ...
Eli and Rex get attacks of opportunity as the imp attempts to fly straight up.
.........
The imp, still visible after stinging Eli, quickly flies straight up in an escape attempt. As it does so, Eli manages to slice through part of its thick skin again with the greataxe, but Rex only manages to chomp the air.
The imp was about 50ft off the road, and now it has flown up about 50ft, so it's about a 70ft straight line distance (diagonally up) to the majority of the party. (It is about 50ft up, directly above Eli and Rex.) It is still visible, for the moment. Aeryth, Shyness (staggered and prone), Marius (staggered and prone), Rex, Sister Azmaria, Eli, Chap (prone), and Poterol can each now take a turn. Cernan and Arabeth still lie unconscious, Cernan in the burning cart with Shyness, and Arabeth on her horse.
........
Eli calls upon his allies to attack the fiend.
Aeryth quickly draws a javelin and expertly hurls it at the flying imp, drawing a sharp squeal of pain as it pierces the tough hide, but doesn't do enough damage to bring the tiny fiend down.
Shyness successfully manages to drag herself and Cernan out of the burning cart, but then collapses unconscious (and unstable at -1 hp) from the effort.
Marius pulls upon inner reserves of strength to grab a silver arrow and shoot it toward the fiend, but the wildly bucking mule he rides upon causes the shot to go incredibly wide.
Rex can only growl up at the imp 50 ft. above his head.
Sister Azmaria shoots a silver bullet, but the tiny fiend just barely manages to flutter out of the way.
Eli shoots a silver arrow straight up, but also narrowly misses the dexterous little imp.
........
Poterol, about to cast water upon the wagon, suddenly sees Shyness burst out through the flames, dragging an unconscious Cernan. She collapses, momentarily unconscious and dying again, at Poterol's feet, until he quickly bends down to let his healing magic revive her once more. Shyness regains consciousness, lying prone, at 8hp.
Chap, surprisingly, takes flight, moving up toward the imp while aiming her bow and firing a single Cernan-crafted silver arrow straight through the tiny flying fiend's tough hide. The imp squeals in extremely intense pain. You suspect it can't take much more, but it doesn't quite fall.
Instead, the imp disappears.
Everyone (except for the currently very unconscious Arabeth and Cernan who are both at negative six hp) can now take a turn. For their sakes, and your own, I suggest you use it very, very wisely.
Also, if you'd like to make a high perception check and wait for my response before posting your action, go for it.
........
When the imp disappears, Aeryth hurries 50ft away from the wagon to avoid potentially being caught in another blast of fire.
Sister Azmaria hurries over to the very unconscious Arabeth slumped on her horse, her touch spreading a holy healing glow and bringing Arabeth further away from death, from -6 hp to -3 hp.
Chap flies up closer to where the imp disappeared, and readies herself to shoot if she has the chance.
Only Marius, Eli, and Poterol notice: ...
---
Eli, at first aiming straight above his head where the imp disappeared, shifts his target to an area somewhat closer to the wagon but off to the side a bit, and looses an arrow, which doesn't seem to hit anything in its flight.
Marius, Poterol, and Shyness (prone) may now take actions, and Chap could attempt a shot, if she knew where to shoot ... Perception DC 20, going once, going twice...
........

Update on the way soon...

GM Angelina |

After much quick effort, all nine of you are conscious, though the wagon is still burning, and the imp is still out there somewhere.
...
...
Suddenly, another inferno erupts at the center of your group. This time, Eli, Rex, Chap, and Aeryth, safe outside the blast radius, can only watch as the rest of the group becomes engulfed in flame once again.
The quick reflexes of Sister Azmaria, Poterol, Shyness, and the mules allow them to avoid the worst of the blaze and remain conscious. Each of you take 6 more fire damage.
Marius and Cernan also manage to avoid the worst of the fireball, but drop back into unconsciousness nonetheless. Each of you take 6 more fire damage and are now unconscious and unstable.
Arabeth, however, takes the worst of the damage as the inferno erupts at her feet, engulfing her body and her outstretched wings alike, before she drops down, dying once again. You take 12 more fire damage and are now unconscious and unstable.
Sister Azmaria, Eli, Chap, Poterol, Aeryth, and Shyness may now take actions.
Good luck!

the next blast catches many of the group off guard the force of the blast sends Azmaria to the ground burnt and battered.
she looks around at the destruction through smoke hazed eyes she surveys the situation, several of her comrades have fallen once more.
NOOOOO she screams her pistol lying on the ground she ignores it for now. Azmaria struggles to get to her feet. and suddenly there is a glow all over her. the light of God shines from her.
white wings of angelic light sprout from her back as a melodic song issues from her lips sung in the Celestial tongue.

GM Angelina |

Holy light again bursts out from Sister Azmaria, spreading a healing warmth.
Cernan's eyes suddenly open wide.
All who were hit by the most recent fireball heal 1 hp.
Marius, Arabeth, and Cernan stabilize.
Cernan, in fact, becomes conscious at 0 hp.
Cernan may now act, although he is prone and staggered, and in danger or dropping unconscious again if he does anything more strenuous than moving.

Eli's face turns into an... intense expression, somewhere between joy, fury, and madness as he draws his last silver arrow, pulling back and aiming at the wicked spirit.
He looses his arrow and lets fly directly for the fiend, hoping to take it out forever.

GM Angelina |

It doesn't become visible. It didn't actually target a creature with an attack or spell. It just dropped something on the ground...
Eli looses his last silver arrow, and a hideous screech comes from the air when the arrow connects solidly with its target. (Subtract 5 from the perception DCs required above to target the imp's square.) Unfortunately, there is no accompanying thud of a creature falling to the ground.
Well, this marks the second time in this combat that you guys have had this imp down to 1hp...
Chap, Poterol, Cernan, Aeryth, and Shyness, you're up!

Brit "Chap" Norgant |

Chap can't fail the spot check
Chap sees the arrow from Eli disappear in amidst the chaos and the wisps of smoke spread from the spot fleeing a thud. Chap turns in the air and dives close to the spot, pulling her longspear out and aiming to strike whatever is there. Charging, will end the charge still flying in the air and 10' away from the enemy with reach
Longspear Charge: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 191d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
I assume GM Angelina is rolling the missing chance

GM Angelina |

@Chap - Yes, I am.
Chap suddenly flies straight across above the remnants of the blaze and fiercely skewers the air, which responds with a cry of anguish, and then a sudden silence. There is a definite thud on the ground beneath Chap, and a slight cloud of dust rises from the spot.
@Shyness - Not anymore. :)
Poterol hurries to Arabeth, his healing magic flooding into her, but not quite bringing her back to consciousness. Arabeth heals 7 hp and is now stable at -1 hp.
We are still in combat rounds. Cernan is prone and staggered at 0hp, but could possibly try something. Marius could have Rex do something. Aeryth and Shyness could definitely do something!

Another blast rocks through the group and Shyness twists through the air to avoid some of it. Crouching on the ground, smoke swirling around, her face goes through a gamut of emotions. As Cernan heals himself and stands, Rex and Shyness converge on the spot where the invisible imp seemed to drop from Chap's blow. Rex somewhat overshoots his distance, but manages to rip a bit of flesh off with his jaws as he skids past. Shyness, however, tears into the invisible creature with startling ferocity, not stilling her claws until the nasty thing is most certainly dead.
Congrats! You survived! :)
We can stop combat rounds for now, although your characters don't necessarily know that.
Current HP is as follows:
Marius -1
Rex 18
Sister Az 8
Eli 12
Chap 6
Poterol 4
Cernan 3
Arabeth -1
Aeryth 2
Shyness 5
Mules 8
Marius and Arabeth are unconscious, the mules are panicking, the cart is burning, and Shyness is holding an invisible imp corpse.
Everybody conscious can act and talk.
Game on!

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

Grunting with a nod at Shyness, Eli hurries toward Marius.
He hurries toward Marius - who is not currently surrounded, unlike his cousin Arabeth - and hits his knees beside the man, to attempt to stabilize him as best he can.

GM Angelina |

As Shyness shakes the invisible imp corpse, a gold necklace with three golden spheres hanging from it drops to the ground.
Sister Azmaria starts looking for something to put out the flames on the cart, but before she finds anything, Poterol starts dousing it in magic water, which starts to do the trick, as the flames turn into smoky sizzles.
Cernan steps first to Marius. His magic healing brings the man back to consciousness.
He then steps to Arabeth, and she, too, regains her senses.
Finally, surveying the group to see who is still most in need of healing, he decides that Aeryth, last seen bravely running away, is the most needy target, and goes to cure his wounds.
Current HP, after Cernan's healing, is as follows:
Marius 8
Rex 18
Sister Az 8
Eli 12
Chap 6
Poterol 4
Cernan 3
Arabeth 7
Aeryth 11
Shyness 5
Mules 8
The mules are still panicking.
Everybody can act and talk.
Game on!

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

Nodding thanks at Cernan for healing Marius and still looking positively beneficent without his mask on (and probably quite strange), Eli claps the latter on the shoulder. "It seems we shall all be avoiding death's door today, Cousin!" he grins at him. Offering him a hand to help him up - curiously seemingly much stronger than normal - Eli gestures, and goes to calm the mules down with Marius.
