Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Yep, I'm ready to get back into things too.

It looks like Void_Eagle is still wrapping up Assault on Absalom, so it'll be just a little bit longer before we can pick back up. Thanks for being patient!

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Just finished up and finalized our card picks. Sorry it took so long, the website issues caused the special to get started a little late. I'm ready to go, although I should point out that I'm out of the country, and have limited internet capabilities, until Sunday. But given that we're about to go into the Thanksgiving weekend, we might want to wait until Monday to start. But I'm good with whatever everyone else wants to do.

It’ll be late Sunday or Monday before we can start up; I’ll be out of town this weekend with only my phone, and it’s way too difficult to get updates posted via mobile.

Managed to get some time to prep the scenario, so we should be all good to get started. Now that I can simply copy/paste the update into paizo once everyone picks starting locations, I should be able to get you all started over the weekend sometime once everyone posts their starting hand.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Sorry for the late response! I've actually been travelling for a couple of days, and I forgot to notify this table since I wasn't expecting it to immediately start up pretty much as soon as I left.

I'll be able to look at the board and draw my starting hand in 12-16 hours from now. I'll start at the Celestial Beacon, given my Divine skill, but I'll take the Anklyosaur so I'm capable of taking on the Molten Pool location safely later on.

Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I'm taking a medal in Constitution. So that means I get a skill feat in Cha, Dex, and Con, correct?

Amaryllis - Void_Eagle wrote:

Correct.

Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Erasmus will check Wisdom this time around, which should give him Cha, Dex & Wis to get skill feats in.

Will have to have a look at his Character Deck and then see if he has any interest in upgrades this time around, but yes we have not been lucky in getting great upgrades in this game. Hopefully that will improve when we start AD3. So far Erasmus only has one AD2 card and 2 AD1s. I expect the rest of the group are probably in similar situations.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Sorry again for the misplay; I particularly empathize with our exasperated BR, in part because I've been in that position of pointing these things out, but especially because he's right in that he's bent over backwards to make these things as obvious as possible and I still missed it.

I will be more cautious in the future, and I will continue saying that until I stop making mistakes. :)

================================

I find the adventure reward interesting - I assume it could be nullified if you've got medals on a skill that you've already maxed your skill feats on? That kind of stinks, and I imagine some players being particularly upset by that. For example, if I was playing the druid Channa Ti, I'd certainly have 3 skill feats in Wisdom right now (her only consistently useful skill), and she'd be maxed out and would waste an entire feat at this point.

With that said, I suppose this season throws so many skill feats at you you should be able to max whatever you want trivially, even with a wasted one here or there. Still, wasting/skipping a feat does seem like the single most harsh thing you can do to a character besides them dying (even then, you can reverse death with die bumps).

=================================

1-2E: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM - Ukuja Rewards

Ukuja will check the Righteous Medal of Command: Charisma on his version of the Knights of Kenabres.

Seeing nothing else that I'm allowed to target, Ukuja redeems Soulshear. I'll add a new section to my Deck Handler soon with the full Redemption sheet and check them off as necessary.

From the Adventure Reward, Ukuja gains the following skill feats:
Dexterity [X] +1
Wisdom [X] +4
Charisma [X] +1

Ukuja tiers up to Tier 3, and gains a die bump (now 2) from finishing an adventure.

Ukuja's Deck Upgrade interest is in the...

  • Spell 1; Replacing Aspect of the Snake with Charm Animal (Hunter Class Deck) Spell 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 147

    Card text is below.

    Charm Animal:
    Traits
    Magic
    Arcane
    Divine

    Powers
Bury this card to draw a random ally that has the Animal trait from the box.

After playing this card, if you do not have either the Arcane or Divine skill, banish it.

  • Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Erasmus tiers up to Tier 3.

Will defer and pass on the deck upgrades yet again.

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Oh yeah, probably should comment on the rest of the stuff.

Tiering up to tier three. Gaining a die-bump for completing AD2. Taking Soulshear as my redemption card (since, like Ukuja, I think it's the only thing I have available). Passing on any deck upgrades. Anything else I'm missing?

I ran out of time to get the initial scenario setup, so I'll do that later today. In the meantime, there are 4 cohorts for you to choose from, so I'll post them now so you can decide (3 from the scenario plus the promo cohort Valais Durant). Remember that each character can take at most 1 cohort (meaning 1 of the 4 will stay out of play). I also need to ensure that I have the most recent PDF, as the adventure reward that I see listed for AD3 doesn't mesh with the tier system.

    Captain Oparal wrote:

    Valais Durant wrote:

If the top card of the blessings discard pile has the Corrupted trait, bury this card to add 2d4 to your combat check; if you succeed, you are dealt 2 Fire damage. If the top card of the blessings discard pile does not have the Corrupted trait, recharge this card to add 2d4 to your non-combat check; if you succeed, recharge 1 random card from your discard pile.

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I'd like Count Jeggare, but it might work better for Erasmus. If I don't get Jeggare, I'd like Valais Durant instead.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Radovan's ability to reduce damage dealt to any character, anywhere, seems strong... but the skills he buffs on reveal aren't helpful to any of us, generally, and his damage prevention power is limited in the damage types it works on (admittedly, they all come up in BYA effects of WotR).

I'd like Captain Oparal, but I'll take Radovan if the team wants the damage resistance option on tap - I've got the hand size to spare.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Amaryllis, feel free to take Jeggare. Erasmus will hang out with Valais.

Initial update out. I will assume unless you specify otherwise that you wish to remove all Basic boons you banish from the game.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

In the interests of actually getting solid deck upgrades, I would strongly prefer we remove all basic boons immediately. (Which is supported in the Card Guild Guide as the "remove and replace as you go" method, which is basically the same as just clearing all basics from the box which the database now supports.)

I’ll wait for other feedback on the removals. Changing things will involve a delay of a few days as I would need to clear and restart the scenario, and I also don’t trust that the button in the db is implemented properly so I’d need to verify on a test table first.

The options in the Guide are:
    1. Run things as written in the AP (what we’re currently doing).
    2. Remove all AD0 Basics and Elites now, remove all AD1 Basics/Elites when we start AD4, etc.
    3. Remove all Basics now and all Elites come AD5.

Regardless of the method chosen, basic blessings are never removed.

My personal preference is method 2, as that makes the banes a lot more challenging (and therefore more fun ), but YMMV. I kept to RAW at first because I’ve been pasting the “during this AP” text since forever and nobody brought up removal yet.

Regarding Yewstance’s question about the Temple of Iomedae, the “at this location” should be interpreted as follows: Any character at Temple of Iomedae may recharge a blessing to add 2 dice to any non-combat Charisma check at any location.

AKA the power cares whether or not the character recharging the blessing is at the Temple. It does not restrict where the check itself is being made.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Thanks skizzerz. My understanding for the Temple of Iomedae was the same; I was just tripped up by the template for "A" -> "Any" having been changed over time.

Option 2 or 3 both work for me. I don't think the button in the database is complex enough to support Option 2 (only Option 3, to my understanding), so it may be faster to just ask an admin to make the change, which they can do quickly.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

I'm also happy with either Option 2 or 3. Thanks!

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I'm good with either option as well

Option 2 doesn't kick in until AD4 after I re-read the Guide, and the buttons for Option 3 just plain doesn't work (neither the "Remove Basics" nor the "Remove from Box" button on individual cards work...). In any case, I'll have the initial update out now. Sorry for the delay!

We'll be playing the variant at first where you remove on the fly until those site bugs get fixed:

    Quote:
Remove Basics and Elites on the Fly: Alternatively, if you can’t spend as much time preparing the game box before play, you can remove the Basic and Elite cards as you find them in the game. Just set everything up as usual, and when you run into a card that meets the criteria described on the Adventure Path, immediately remove that card from the game and replace it with another card of the same type from the game box.

Grab the first non-basic card you see from the Random Cards spoiler whenever you run into a Basic card.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

I see I missed this table in flagging this earlier (sorry); I was using Hangouts for most of my communication with tables.

I'll be absent from the 24th-29th, due to Christmas/Family/Travel commitments, sorry in advance. Ukuja may be botted if desired, though I anticipate that much of the group will be busy at this time of year.

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Apologies for the delay, travelling for the holidays and a power outage caused a problem with the router. Just got it fixed, and I'll be taking my turn shortly.

I’ll have an update out in ~12 hours. Sorry for the delay between updates, I need to get better at staying on top of them again!

Did I ever send out chronicle sheets for AD2 yet? I'm going back through my list of pending chronicles and I see 1-2D and 1-2E listed but I don't see 1-2A, 1-2B, or 1-2C. Not sure if that's because I just never recorded them as pending, or if it's because I sent out a chronicle sheet including those first 3 scenarios but not D and E.

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I just went and checked my messages, and don't see anything in there for AD2. So unless you sent it via another means, it doesn't look like they were sent.

    1-3A Loot:

    1x Weapon 3
    1x Spell 1
    2x Spell B
    1x Armor 3
    1x Armor B
    1x Item 2
    1x Item B
    2x Ally 3
    1x Ally 2
    2x Ally B
    7x Blessing B

    Black Robe:
    Black Robe
    Loot 3
    Type: Item
    Traits: Accessory Magic Corrupted
Reveal this card to add 2 to your Arcane or Divine checks, or to reduce damage dealt to you by 2; you may play another item on the check.
Discard this card to put a spell from your discard pile on top of your deck.
After you play this card, if it has the Corrupted trait, bury a random card from your discard pile.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Oooh, spoilt for choice for once. I'm honestly quite happy for others to cherry pick what they particularly want, if anything. I'm totally happy with either a Weapon 3, Item 2 or Ally 3/2 to be honest and am assured of getting one of those after others have picked.

1-3A: MISTRESSES OF RUINS - Ukuja Rewards

I still haven't gotten around to putting that Redemption sheet in my Deck Handler. I'll get around to that soon, hopefully.

I can't afford to use an item slot, so I won't be taking the Loot, of course... it's quite a find, though, solid in particular for Amaryllis (at least when it's Redeemed). I've added it to the Loot Tracker spreadsheet.

Ukuja gains a Skill Feat, from Tier Progression, checking off...
    Dexterity d10 [X] +1 [X] +2 [ ] +3 [ ] +4

Ukuja's Deck Upgrade interests are as follows...

  • Ally 3; Replacing Crow with Elk (Hunter Class Deck) Ally 3: 1d1000 ⇒ 580
  • Weapon 3; Replacing Terbutje with Oaken Staff (Hunter Class Deck) Weapon 3: 1d1000 ⇒ 613
  • Ally 2; Replacing Crow with Hatchetbird (Hunter Class Deck) Ally 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 602

If and only if both Ally 3s are otherwise unclaimed, please note that I may use an earned Boon to claim a second deck upgrade so I may take both.

    Card texts are below.

    Elk:
    Traits
    Animal
    Mount

    Powers
Discard this card to evade your encounter, then you may move.

Discard this card to explore your location. During this exploration, on your Dexterity and Wisdom checks, add 1d6.

    Oaken Staff:
    Traits
    Staff
    Melee
    Bludgeoning
    2-Handed
    Magic

    Powers
For your combat check, reveal this card to use your Strength, Melee, or Survival skill + 1d6+1; you may additionally recharge a spell to add another 1d6.

Reveal this card and discard a spell to reduce all damage dealt to a character at your location by 3.

When you would discard this card as damage, you may put it on top of your deck instead.

    Hatchetbird:
    Traits
    Animal
    Mount

    Powers
On your first combat check of your turn, recharge this card to add 1d6.

On your turn, discard this card to move, then explore your location. During this exploration, on your first combat check, add 1d6

  • Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Taking Dex +2 as my 3.1 skill feat. I completely forgot to even look at what tier 3 boons I might want, but I'll have something up tonight. I can say for sure, though, that I don't want the weapon or armor.

And yeah, that Black Robe looks nice, once it's no longer corrupted.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

I will be travelling over the next 4 days; my posting will be inconsistent as a result.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Such a tough choice this time, but given above posts, might just take the Weapon 3 for Erasmus while the opportunity presents itself.

Swapping in Marksman's Bow for Light Crossbow

For skill feat, take Dexterity [X]+3

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

I think I'm going to take the Ally 2, which means both Ally 3s are available for you Ukuja. Swapping out the Apprentice for the Bound Elemental.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

    Alright, hm, in that case...

Ukuja strikes off the second use of his Treasure Hunter Boon, earned as an Outpost Box Runner, to take a second Deck Upgrade.

Ukuja replaces Crow and Fox with Elk (Hunter) and Snapping Flytrap (Ultimate Wilderness).

The Flytrap's not amazing yet, but it'll be easier to get the Ally 1 and 2 plant allies I'm looking for, rather than another Ally 3 later.

    1-3B rewards

    Fiendsplitter (Loot)

    Fiendsplitter:
    Fiendsplitter
    Loot 3
    Type: Weapon
Traits: Axe Melee Slashing 2-Handed Magic Torag
For your combat check, reveal this card to use your Strength or Melee skill + 1d12+1; you may additionally discard this card to add your Strength die. You may recharge a card that has the Torag trait to add another 1d8. If not proficient with weapons, the difficulty of this check is increased by 4.
You may discard this card to examine the top card of your location deck; if it does not have the Demon trait, shuffle your location deck.

    2x Weapon 3
    1x Weapon 2
    3x Spell 3
    1x Armor B
    1x Item 3
    1x Item 2
    1x Item 1
    2x Ally 3
    3x Ally 1
    1x Ally B
    1x Blessing B

I'll get the next scenario prepped later today or tomorrow.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

For completing the second scenario of Tier 3, Ukuja gains a Power Feat:
[X] At the end of your turn, you may recharge a random card that has the Animal trait from your discard pile.

Kinda tempted to check off the last use of my Treasure Hunter boon. There's no shortage of boons I'm still looking for, and I don't want to just forget about it always waiting for some 'optimal' scenario for something that can just be achieved by a solo scenario replay, aynway.

For the time being, Ukuja will claim a Weapon 3 for his Deck Upgrade, replacing Terbutje with Oaken Staff (Hunter).

Note that I can discard a spell and reveal it to reduce any damage dealt to a character at my location by 3. Also, since I can topdeck it instead of discarding it to damage, it just gives a nice bit of resilience just by sitting in my hand, whilst also providing me another option for my much-needed Survival combat checks.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

    Erasmus will take Power Feat:

On your check, after the roll, you bury a card to add or subract 1d4([X]+1) from the result.

He'll take a Spell 3 as a deck upgrade. Replacing Force Missile with Kinetic Blast

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

For my power feat, I'm taking a hand size of 7.

Since no one else wanted the Item 3, I'm taking that and replacing the Bestiary of Garund with a Mist Horn.

As the party gets more and more loot, the Reference Cards section is starting to get a bit unwieldy. I think I'm going to break it up into multiple sections:

    • Story Henchmen/Villains
    • Loot
    • Summoned Henchmen/Villains
    • Other (this would be things like the Mythic Path cards and Redemption card)

What do you think of that? Or should we keep it as-is?

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

Good idea, it is getting a bit long to scroll through.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

    Sounds good. Thanks BR!

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

Note that I will continue to try to update the Loot Tracker spreadsheet with the Loot, which I find a bit more practical. I can happily add another tab and move any other information there if desired by anyone.

Other than that, I'm in favor of further dividing the spoilers.

I'll get those split out for the next update then. The next update will also fix the turn numbering in the blessings deck (to account for the fact that flipping a villain requires you to advance the blessings deck, so I need to double-up on turn markings for the villain cards -- their position is fixed thankfully so I can do that without revealing any information you wouldn't know if playing with physical cards).

Both of these have been completed :)

Villains are marked in the blessings deck so you know how close you are to your check difficulties going up, and turn order is properly labeled to handle the fact that flipping a villain requires you to advance the blessings deck one more time.

The Reference Cards section has also been broken up:
    - Story Banes contains all the villains and henchmen specified on the scenario itself, in order. So, the last one on the list is the one used to fill remaining locations.
    - Loot and Summons should be pretty self-explanatory. Both are in alphabetical order (exception: Servitor Demon will always remain at the top of the Summons spoiler)
    - Valais Durant (and other Cohorts) were moved to the Reference Cards spoiler, along with Mythic Paths and the Redemption card. This spoiler contains any reference cards which don't fit into the above categories. I seem to be missing the spoilers for the scenario cohorts somehow, those will be added in the next update (sorry!). I will also (eventually) mark which cards players have redeemed in the Redemption card spoiler.

Deck Handler // Searching For: TBD

I have to ask; is there a different way I should be trying to communicate with the team? I feel like my notes are often overlooked.

Before I do an update, can I get some confirmation that things that Yewstance proposed will be happening (such as moving over the heavy crossbow)?

As for communication, I have a discord server set up which we could use. Invite link is here.

    Deck Handler // Looking for: Spell 3 > Spell 3 > Ally 3 > Blessing 3 > Spell B

As one of the people who forgets your suggestions sometimes, I'm not sure what to do to help. I forget that type of stuff even when I'm sitting around the table sometimes, if there's too long of a delay before my turn. I'll try to work on keeping track of them. Maybe add a "notes" tab to my deck handler?

[edit]Misunderstood what BR was asking. I'm fine with the heavy crossbow being moved.

    Character Deck Upgrade Prefs: Spell 4 > Weapon 4 > Item 4/3 > Ally 3/2 > Blessing 4/3/2

Yeah, sorry I missed that note about examining the top 3 cards of the Occult Library. The suggestion itself makes a lot of sense and on reflection I'm not exactly sure how I missed your note as it is nicely formatted and clear. I do recall having to spend a fair bit of time trying to read through your long post and the ones before to make sure I was clear where each location stood so I could take my move...even then I missed the hand crossbow thing as well. Somehow I just didn't notice that particular note this time. My bad.

As for how to communicate better, I don't think the fault is with you at all. I'm a bit the same as Void_Eagle there, it is more likely just my general forgetfulness (I blame it on age :P). I do make a point of trying to make sure I read over the scenario and location conditions carefully and then catch up with where things are at. A lot to be across in this game at the best of times, but that's part of the fun.

It might just be a different focus between us as players. I tend to spend less time thinking too far ahead or about strategy in this game and enjoy just playing each turn as it comes, picking up the story so to speak and seeing where it takes my character this time.

I think in terms of making it easier to make sure your thoughts are getting through, though, is just keeping a consistent place for them, so I can include that in the regular list of places I read before I take my turn. Your 'strategy notes' section looks good and I'll make a concerted effort to include that in the list of places I check each turn before making my moves.

I'm not very familiar with Discord (although do have an account) but find the Google Hangouts that some other games use work well for me. Not suggesting we need to set one up for this game but I'd definitely join one if we did.

Hope my occasional stuff-ups aren't impacting your fun too much as I'm really enjoying this game and this table. It's quite nice having a 3 player game as each character's impact can really be felt quite strongly on the end result and we seem to have quite complimentary character skill sets, I think.
