The night passes without incident. The next day Bala asks for help putting the howdahs back on the elephants (they don't sleep with them on) and you head out of the small village of Mudaliar.

The next day you pass from the sparsely populated lowlands near the river into the higher elevations dominated by the jungle. Your progress slows significantly as Bala must choose the best paths to take you through the dense forest.

Eventually you hook up with a more well-worn path heading in a generally southern direction. A few hours after you break for lunch, the jungle opens into a clearing, where the thick foliage parts to display the sky above and a cool breeze renders the air less humid. A rough wooden shrine holding a wide variety of clay statuettes depicting Vudrani deities stands to one side of the clearing.

A hermit with a scraggly beard tends the shrine. He's dirty and wears worn, grimy clothing. Upon seeing the elephants emerge from the jungle, he steps forward and bows deeply. He begins a greeting in Vudrani, but when he notices your foreign complexions, he switches to very broken Taldane. "Welcome, sirs. Welcome to most holy enshrined house of worship."

"Thank you for the welcome. We just happen to be passing through. What deities is this temple dedicated to? Please tell us a little about this area."

"Greetings, and thank you for the welcome," Farouq responds. He looks
rather surprised at the wooden temple in the midst of the jungle. "This seems a rather unusual place for a temple, Do you get many visitors out here?" he enquires.

Farou will collect some goodberries on the way

The hermit looks at the berry quizzically. "What this?" he says, pointing at Aquila's gift.

The hermit seems to be stumbling a bit over what Daxter was saying; it seems he's having some trouble following. "What god, you say? All Vudrani gods worth my pray, so most favored here." He points to his very humble shrine which contains scores of small, clay statues. He then continues, "I am alone here. Alone I feel gods better."

He then turns to Farouq, "Not many visitors. Most come here and give small offering, I give blessing. But some don't." During this last sentence his face grows still. "They don't look like villagers. They don't leave gift and ask no blessing, wearing dark hoods even here in hot jungle."

The hermit turns around and momentarily steps into his small shrine, emerging a few seconds later with a small clay jar. Opening the jar, you can see that it contains a very pungent, sweet-smelling substance. The hermit dips his left ring finger into the jar while he begins chanting slowly in Vudrani. This continues for less than a minute, after which he touches the halfling's forehead with his finger, leaving a small dot on Aquila's forehead. The hermit speaks slowly and reverently, "May gods give you wisdom and open your third eye. May gods give you blessings. Lanterns can shine on the darkest of nights, but only if the sacred oil is anointed upon them." The blessing is spoken in Vudrani, translated by Daxter.

The hermit looks at Daxter quizzically, "Dhalavei? She is Vudrani goddess." He tries to think of something else to say, then turn back to his shrine and gets a small clay figure of a shapely, three-headed woman with black skin and colored hair. Each of her two arms branches at the elbow into six forearms.

As far as you can tell, it's made of plant material: probably from trees combined with some local, foul-smelling berries. Without a lab it's hard to tell for sure, but it looks fairly innocuous.

SURPRISE ROUND
A few hours after everyone has gone to sleep, Ursus, Daxter's familiar Hermes, Bala, and the elephants are taking the first watch. The jungle is a riot of noise, but Ursus' keen ears pick up the snapping of a large branch somewhere off to the north of you. He strains his eyes to see what might be out there (after all, it could be one of the many monkeys or large lizards you've seen on and off during your travels here), but he doesn't take that chance.

Ursus grabs the purple stone circling his forehead and concentrates for a moment bringing a shimmering veil up in front of him. The Ulfen releases the stone afterward and it resumes its orbit above his head. (Activate Ioun Stone - Shield) "We've got company!"

A split second later the vines, roots, trees, and grasses around you reach up to grab at you, trying to hold you in place.

(Reflex saves for everyone. Note that since you are sleeping, you are considered to have a Dex score of 0. Ursus Reflex (12) + 10 = 22, success; Daxter 19-1=18, success! Takuma 20-3=17, success! Montesquieu 16+0=16, success! Elephant1 12+7=19, success! Elephant2 8+7=15, success! Bala succeeds; Garra 17+0=17, success! Farouq 6+0=6, Farouq is entangled; Adjo 18+0=18, success! Aquila 19-1=18; other great news is that the vines grabbing for you wakes everyone up; those of you on watch have your armor on, those of you asleep do not if you normally wear medium or heavier armor and do not have the Endurance feat (in which case you can sleep in medium armor); since it's still early, those of you who cast extended spells first thing in the morning still have them)

Giving into his blood-rage once again the warrior undergoes his ursine transformation a second before reaching out with a clawed grip to pull the beast away from his unprepared ally. (43 CMB vs. 34 CMD; success!, the waretiger and Ursus gain the grappled condition)

ROUND 1 CONTINUED
Note: to make things a bit simpler for me to track, I’m moving all animal companions to their owner’s initiative.

With Ursus bravely rushing toward Takuma’s aid, Takuma (who has 70/87 hp ) lying from the ground, with his katana in his hands, and makes a quick slash with his weapon. Using all of his might, Takuma makes a deep cut in the weartiger’s body, causing blood to fly everywhere. With the monsterous humanoid reeling, he makes a second, less damaging cut. Immediately after the blood was spilled, however, the cuts begin to close, and what once was a fatal cut is only now only a significant wound.

Everyone now manages to get a better look at your aggressor. He seems to be a human with tiger characteristics. He is clad in well worn leather armor, has a bow strapped to his back, and wearing a green camouflage cloak that seems to make him harder to spot in the jungle.

Aquilia in great humor yells to Montesquieu, “You going to stand up and help? Or are you fighting this battle lying down?”

Montesquieu replies, “Fine… if I must. Sooooo sleepy.” Montesquieu, begins pontificating on other glorious battles that were fought AFTER a full night's rest.

Montesquieu stands, inspire courage

While the elephant that is war trained looks nervous but is ready to participate in combat, the other elephant panics, looking to flee. Bala uses his actions attempting to calm the crazed animal and prevent it from running off with your various supplies.

Bala uses his handle animal on untrained elephant. The wartrained elephant is in delay and is waiting for orders. Maybe one of the druids can command it using their handle animal check.

Farouq, lying on the ground and trapped within the vines and roots ensnaring him, struggles to free himself. Getting angry, he orders Adjo to mangle the cat like human, manages to stand, rages, and changes himself into a more powerful form to better escape. Adjo, getting up from his cat nap, moves next to the waretiger and prepares to maul the beast.

Farouq rages and shape changes himself into a lion. Adjo stands and moves to AQ 8

Aquilia stands up and makes a makes a quick command to Garra. Garra swoops next to the monster, and makes a quick bite. He manages to pierce the tiger’s arm, and electric sparks dance around the open wound. Aquila handle animal check to order Dumbo to attack. Dumbo double moves.

Dazed for a brief second, the bear-man repositions himself for a better pin and then uses his clawed mitt to wrench on his opponent's free arm, pulling at the limb with monstrous strength. You could hear his bones and muscles ripping apart, but they quickly repair themselves.

"Will someone kill the foul beast so we may go back to sleep? I have spellcasting to do in the morning." Daxter says as he calls Hermes back over to him as he heads towards his bedroll.

Ursus roars in victory over the defeated weretiger. Grunting, the man-bear lift's the lycanthrope's bleeding form off the ground and then smashes it down, spine-first, across his outstretched knee.

"It would have been nice to question him... Montesqueue can interrogate quite well. I would have liked to know if he was a true lycantrope. Takuma was bitten, so should we be afraid he'll turn into a weretiger?"

"None of the other cultist's were willing to talk. What makes you think this creature would be different? For all we know he could just attack us again. Also, Montesquieu does not seem to know the local language, so I doubt he could have even communicated with him. I believe we are better off exterminating them like we agreed to as opposed to trying to converse with them. And lastly no, Takuma will not be turning into such a beast. It is not transmittable in any way, unlike the the illnesses that Ursus might acquire." Daxter smiles as he makes that final jab.

-I'll make the next guard. -after a little pause- Somebody could make it with me, just in case I transform in a beast like that.

"I wouldn't worry too much friend", Ursus says as he stokes the campfire bringing it back life. "Dax has the right of it in that you can't become one of us that way".

"Besides, you should consider yourself lucky if you somehow picked it up. The strength and stamina is incredible. Imagine how you felt on your strongest day and then double it, triple it", the big Ulfen explains. "The fur itches like hell the first few times it grows in and falls out like that, but you get used to it", he finishes with a laugh.

"And of course there's the animal magnetism. Women can sense the beast - they're drawn to it. Learn to channel that strength and you can't keep them out of your bed", Ursus says with a lewd grin.

The next day greets you uneventfully. Bala cooks breakfast for you (a delicious vegetarian stew). Afterwards, you pack up the elephants and continue on your journey.

The trek is slow going, due to unfavorable weather. It is very humid and sticky. You are often greeted by sudden down-pores of water, which can last for several minutes, only to clear up just as suddenly, leaving the jungle floor wet and muddy. Once, you had to stop and wait for a barge to cross another river, swollen from the rains. You could of tried to cross it using the elephants to wade, but Bala warns you off.
"No. No. No. Mukara," he says, arms stretching wide.

Vudrani:
No. No. No. Dire Crocodile

The poor weather decreases your rate of travel, and you begin to run low on supplies. Eventually however, you begin to see the small village of Leckumgee in the distance at the end of your sixth day of travel. It is early in the evening when you arrive, and about 2 days before the next full moon. Another storm appears to be brewing over the horizon.

So what are you guys doing?

From the conversation above, I'm assuming that you guys aren't going to treat the bite or take any preventative measures against the cursed bite. I'm going to roll Takuma's lycanthropy fort save on the night of the full moon, to make the event suspenseful.
