"Well now, that's a durn shame. I do enjoy some music with a meal."
Solomon waits patiently until the servers aren't quite as busy serving to asking for more ale. Assuming one of the children brings his refilled drink, he pats the child gently on the head, and fishes out enough for the drink, and a few extra copper coins. Bending down to whisper to the child, "Now these ones are just for you and your sibling. Make sure'n share, alright?
Sitting back up in his seat, Solomon calls out to the crowd in general, "Anyone interested in playin a game?", as he pulls out a much more finely carved and polished set of black and white stones, resemble animals, towers, and people of various races alongside a smootly polished slab of marble.
It's a chess set...
Marik
Boomer finally gets finished filling the current orders for steak, and sets the remainder aside for further orders, and heads back to the kitchen to plan desert. Marik reappears shortly thereafter, and takes his place behind the bar, ready to serve those with orders. His brothers by this time have finished their meals, and returned to their table; they are currently playing some kind of card game of their own making, showing signs of concentration and focus for the the first time in the evening.
Solomon Wise-axe
Solomon gathers the pieces and moves over to sit with Ash. Placing the board between them, he begins placing the pieces in the proper places.
The white stones are carved to look like dwarves. Eight short dwarves carrying shield and axe are all slightly differnt, so when they are lined up, looking from one end to the other, it appears they are making one chopping motion. There are a pair of dwarves riding on boars, a pair of castle spires, a pair wearing robes similar to the ones Solomon himself wears, a grand Dwarven King and a beatiful (to a dwarf) Dwarven Queen.
The black stone are set on the opposite side from the dwarves, and are carved to look like goblins and orcs. The front row is made of 8 goblins, from end to end appear to be pumping their spears in the air, a pair of orcs on giant lizards, a pair of twisted, dead trees, a pair wearing clerical robes, a defiant looking Orc king, and a vile looking Orc Queen.
Solomon offers As her preferred side of choice, takes the other, and the pair begin playing.
Cant really think of anything we could use to try to play the game other than a series of Intelligence checks, since there isnt a Knowledge: Tactics like there is in D20 Modern.
If you want to roll them, thats fine, otherwise we can just say we play(ed).
sunshadow21
I love the description of the chess pieces.
Marik watches the game with a quiet look of satisfaction on his face. The success of the evening so far is apparently one that pleases him greatly. The halfling child looks at her mother questioningly, and after her mother nods approval, takes the coins, thanks the kind dwarf, and disappears into the back to share them. While neither parent says anything, they both seem pleased at both the stranger's generosity and their child's etiquette.
Filios
An athletically built elf eases his way into the tent. His eyes peruse the interior, resting briefly with disinterest on the board game that a dwarf is playing. His deep violet eyes light up with a childlike enthusiasm as he rests his gaze upon a group playing cards. He seems to have a difficult time tearing his attention away from the card game as he saunters across the tent to the bar. He eventually takes the most available seat closest to the end and attempts to get the attention of the barkeep. "Fine sir, I was hoping to quench my thirst?"
Crystal D'glaese
Crystal watches the pair deftly move the figurines about the board. Though she does not understand the rules by which they are moved, the patterns and eventual goal is what keeps her attention.
After Solomon and Ash finish their first game Crystal smiles and moves again, gently tugging the fabric of her trousers and massaging her hip as she walks over to again take a seat near Feona has come to rest.
At the entrance of another road weary traveller, Crystal's eyes follow this new stranger to where he takes a place at the bar, though her manners keep almost all of her attention on the companions she is talking to around her,
Diplomacy:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
And doing a very poor job of it, to boot! :P
Perception:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
To so obviously 'ogle' the make Elf who has wandered into the groups midst. :P
"I'm sorry, Feona? What was it you were saying?" Crystal drags her gaze from where it has become stuck and looks back at her freind...
Filios
After a few moments of no response from the Bar Keeper, Filios casually places 3 Silvers on the bar in hopes that coin speaks louder than words in this tent. He takes a more focused look around at the other denizens of the tent.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
[ooc]To see who may be looking too long in his direction or in a conspicuous manner...like the Tiefling..:-)
Marik
Graal goes behind the bar and pokes his brother, who had drifted off a bit, awake and returns to his card game. Apparently the half orc twins notice more than they let on. "Uhmmm, ok, ok, I'm awake, you dumb oaf. My apologies good sir, it has been a long day hunting, and after Boomer's cooking, a nap was just too much to resist. I am Marik, if you wish drink, talk to one of the halflings, they can assist you in that department; if you wish something more substantial, we have rabbit stew, bread, and I see we still have some steaks that are ready to be cooked up if you so wish that. Otherwise, we have plenty of folks here to chat with as you put your feet up for a while. Between Boomer and Miss Crystal over there, we will hopefully have some entertainment before long. And don't mind your lack of instruments, ma'am, I'm sure most people here would just be happy to hear some quality singing, storytelling, or whatever talent you may have that doesn't require instrumentation." With that, Marik goes back to whittling the stick he brought in earlier in order to help him stay awake after his filling supper.
Filios
"Thank you, sir. I am Filios Philandril." Filios hails the nearest halfling and presses one the three silvers into its hand. "Please be so kind as to bring me a mug of your finest ale, if you would be so kind?"
to Marik: "I believe that I will take you up on one of those steaks, Marik...medium rare, of course." Filios slides the remaining two silvers to Marik with a broad smile.
Filios stands and heads to the table where Crystal and Feona sit.
"Good evening ladies. I am Filios Philandril, and Marik tells me that Miss Crystal may be performing for us this evening. Which of you might that be?"
Crystal D'glaese
At Fillios' approach Crystal makes a point of looking at Feona when he speaks and asks his question,
Bluff:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
She answers the gentleman,
"I am sure the singing shall be the best that can be presented. Though the road is long and some times fatigue can sneak up on even a veteran performer." She smiles, still being as general as possible in her manner and form so as to carry the possible ruse.
Filios
Not sure which check would apply...but in an effort to gauge the true nature of Crystal's intentions...
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Sense Motive:1d20 ⇒ 13
Filios winks at Crystal, but addresses both ladies. Well let us hope that the long road does not pose too much of an impediment to the evening's entertainment. May I join the two of you for dinner? I have just ordered up one of the establishment's fine steaks, and I desperately need to waqsh the dust from my throat.
Crystal D'glaese
Crystal returns a friendly smile to Filios,
"I have already taken my evenings repast." She informs him demurely, "Though I would happily join you in a drink of something?" She suggests, bending and searching through her coin pouch and adding a small amount of silver pieces onto the table.
"We can share the tab...so to speak..." She offers.
Filios
Filios smiles at Crystal. Well, of course.{/b} Filios flags the Filios slips another silver to the halfling and looks back to Crystal. [b]I am heading to Absolom. Do you have any idea where this caravan is heading?
Filios
Sorry, should not try to post by phone after a few cold ones...ooops. Should have read as follows.
Filios Smiles at Crystal. Well, of course, my lady. Filios flags down the nearest halfling, and slips three silvers into his/her hand. Please bring me another ale, and two glasses of wine for these fine ladies.
Filios turns back to address both Crystal and Feona. I am currently traveling to Absolom. Do you have any idea where the caravan I saw outside is headed?
Crystal D'glaese
Crystal shakes her head in the negative,
"No, I must admit to finding myself slightly lost at the moment." She glances away and sighs the quickly recovers with a smile,
"Still, let us bring the night in with some good cheer, yes?" She asks then stands and moves to a place within the tent where the acoustics are relatively better, she begins to entertain those gathered with some songs.
Perform;Sing:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
And not doing too bad a job of it. =)
Willard Barnable
A large scruffy young man looks comes into the tavern and looks for a seat at the bar. He is very dirty and smelly, and carries a large woodcutting axe over his back. By the amount of blood crusted on the handle, its looks like wood isn't the only thing it's been cutting "Ho!" he says loudly "Bartender I need a drink bad!"
Filios
Filios nods to the halfling in thanks, stands, and approaches the card game. Good evening gentlemen. Do you have room to deal me in? As Filios asks to join the game, he jingles his belt pouch and smiles broadly.
sunshadow21
The half orc twins look up at Filios, motion to an empty chair, and explain the rules of the game they made up; it seems to be a cross between multiple games that is either pure genuis or pure insanity, depending on the point of view. Marik will look up, "There is a wash station just outside. For the sake of the other guests, you might want to clean up. Once you have, the halflings can assist you in ordering." By this time, one of the halflings has taken over the cooking of the steaks, and a merchant and his guards have wandered in to listen to the singing.
Filios
Filios takes the proferred chair. Filios joins the game. He barely notices the scruffy and filthy newcomer, but he does snicker at Marik's admonish of the brute.
To sunshadow21: How should we resolve success/failure at the card game? Do you need a particular skill check rolled?
Marik
Marik stands up to his full height, which is touching the top of the tent at this point and firmly repeats himself, "While I can appreciate your indifference to dirt, there are many here who don't share that indifference, and given that it takes no more than a minute to make yourself presentable, I must insist on the behalf of my other guests that you do so. Otherwise I will be forced to have my brothers do it for you, and I am pretty sure you won't like that." Filios, you see the twins just grin at each other as they listen to their brother speak while they play. You manage to win a few silver from them in the first hand
Wisdom 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
We'll roll a few rounds, and determine from those the overall success of the game.
Filios
Filios smiles in understanding of the fate of the uncooperative newcomer. He continues to focus on the card game, but he looks in the direction of the newcomer and shakes his head disapprovingly.
Intelligence:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Crystal D'glaese
Crystal uses the small 'distraction' between the people so as to rest for a short while, sipping at a cup of water. When things have quietened down, she raises her voice again.
Perform Sing:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Does one confirm a crit with a skill?:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Ah, just a very good performance for the evening....=)
Willard Barnable
"While I can appreciate your indifference to dirt, there are many here who don't share that indifference, and given that it takes no more than a minute to make yourself presentable, I must insist on the behalf of my other guests that you do so. Otherwise I will be forced to have my brothers do it for you, and I am pretty sure you won't like that."
Realizing the man is speaking to him Willy looks up from the card game blinking.
"Wut? Do wut for me?"
sunshadow21
Deciding that he could use the entertainment, Marik gets up, calls his brothers, and the 3 of them very forcefully pick up the stubborn and dirty man. It is clear that the three of them intend to make sure that he is thoroughly clean and lectured before he reenters the tent. Boomer walks in to see the bar unnattended, stops to listen to the singing for a bit, and starts cooking something behind the bar with a puzzled look on his face, waiting for Marik and his brothers to reappear to get updated on events.
Filios
Filios, clearly disappointed in the interruption of his game, remains seated and anxiously awaits the return of the Half-Orc brothers. In the meantime, he focuses on Crystal's outstanding performance.
For next round of cards when half-orcs return.
Intelligence:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Better, but still not good...
sunshadow21
Zar clearly dominates this third hand that wraps up just as Marik makes his move on the cleaning up operation. He seems to be doing the best overall, though his brother is doing pretty good keeping up for the most part. After a bit of beginner's luck, Filios seems to be having trouble mastering anything beyond the basics of this hybrid game.
You would have gotten one more hand in before the dunking.
Graal Wisdom 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Zar Wisdom 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Zar Wisdom from 1st hand (just to flesh it out completely) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Filios
Filios' frustration is masked, but he hates to lose. He stands and pushes away from the table. Well, gentlemen, it appears as if you have gotten the best of me so far this evening. While you tend to your duties, I will hopefully receive and take my meal. I do look forward to picking up again later, perhaps with a more traditional game of my choosing?
Filios
Filios smiles. Thanks for the steaks, and I did not doubt your warning. I hope to get the best of them after they complete their duties...the night is young. By the way, do you have any idea where the caravan that I saw outside is heading, or who I can speak with about their anticipated departure?
sunshadow21
The halfling chuckled at Filios's determination to win, "If you can win without cheating, more power to you, but cheating would be a decidedly bad idea with Marik and Boomer watching. As for the caravan, if you are referring to ours, we are headed to Absalom as are apparently many here tonight, though individuals speeds are likely to vary."
Solomon Wise-axe
"Aye, I was noticin that as well. Almost everyone o' us that've come in this place tonight are headin in the same direction. Could be that it's nothin but sheer coincidence. I'm not thinkin it's that simple though. It seems like something strange is about."
Solomon takes a long glance at the others in the tent while he sets the pieces to his set back up in proper order. "Anyone else care for a game? I'd be more'n happy to teach those that aren't knowin how to play."
Filios
To Solomon
Why, yes, fine sir! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Filios Philandril. I certainly cannot resist the urge for any type of gaming. I will, of course, require some initial instruction, but would you care to wager on the outcome...just to make it more interesting? Filios stands and moves to the table where Solomon sits and offers his hand.
Let me know the types of rolls necessary to resolve the outcome of the game.
Solomon Wise-axe
"I'm not much o' one for wagerin' on games, but I suppose it couldn't hurt."
Solomon reaches into his puch to pull out a couple silver coins, and lays them on the table.
He proceeds to go into detail about how each of the pieces move, "Now this one goes like this, and these can only move..."
We didnt do anythin in the last game, but if you want, we can make Int/Wis checks. I guess just make 5 and we can do the best of that is the eventual winner.
Dont have this character's stats done, but since he's a cleric, Im going to assume Im going to give him AT LEAST a 14 Wis, so I'll go with that.
