Folks, just so's you know... and it's not a big thing but I'm not a huge fan of folks rolling for knowledge checks (or any other checks really) without at least some limited commentary. It sort of breaks the immersion IYKWIM? Grumble finished!!!!
Also, just as a head's up, it's a 'stay at home and start getting some things done for christmas' type day tomorrow so I'll be posting at a more normal frequency across all of my games...

Amelia Blackheart |

For Lilly, I'm trying for a cross between Shirley Temple, Heath Ledger's Joker, and Andrew Dice Clay.

Elliomander Ostarian |

if that was directed at me, I apologize- I meant that knowledge[engineering] check to be for recognizing the tools and their uses (which seemed appropriate when I thought he was tinkering with complicated things like clockwork or something), but I may not have been clear enough about that...

No... It was Mama Frill's stand-alone knowledge check around the clockwork thoughts (to which some cool text subsequently got added)...

Amelia Blackheart |

BTW - Gar, are you reading Amelia's mind? I thought I saw you post that. If you are, you might want to be careful about that. You might read Lilly's mind instead, and that's not a pleasant place to be (not that Amelia's is all that comfy either).

Gar the Red, Brother in Silence |

Nah, that was just for flavor! I wouldn't direct a spell like that toward a player without permission :). I don't figure you'd have to read Lilly's mind to figure out what she thinks...
Am I understanding right that Elliomander has the customer list?

Amelia Blackheart |

Yep, he found it from what I read.

Amelia Blackheart |

BTW: changed my avatar, the previous one looked angry all the time, and Amelia isn't angry all the time, quite the opposite. I think the picture might have been tainting some of her comments.

Vera Marshall |

Zed: I'm going over some of Vera's class abilities, and I'm coming to the conclusion that this build isn't exactly what I wanted... I like the idea of an investigator that trades out alchemy for something like grit/panache, but I'm seeing some problems with the execution of this archetype... plus it's a lot of resources to track!
Would you be OK if I tinkered a bit with Vera's build? The character concept will remain the same (a female Sherlock Holmes pastiche). I'll PM you a statblock for approval before I make any changes with her profile.

No worries... Going to try and get a gameplay post up this evening... worst case scenario, I'll get a response up to your posts tomorrow morning (UK)

I think we're waiting for the GM to respond to Vera's questions of Muncy
You are indeed... long story short, eldest son (8yo) had a party sleepover with friends and youngst (4yo) went to his Granddad's... first night properly kid-free in eight years!!! So, much as I love you guys, yesterday was out with my girlfriend - good meal, fine wine and trying to remember what we spoke about when it wasn't planning the kids days!!!
...normal service resumes tonight!!!

After trying to rebuild her as a single-classed unchained rogue, I think I'm going to keep her as a rogue 1/investigator 4. I'm going to drop the Sleuth archetype, making her a standard investigator. Again like Sherlock Holmes, I think having her be chemically-dependent would be appropriate. My weekend is super-busy, and I don't know when I'll get the new statblock done.

Vera Marshall |

I realized that Vera needed to have a lens of detection. I dropped her belt of incredible dexterity and adjusted her ability scores accordingly (e.g. she no longer needs Charisma for the sleuth's Luck pool). I also rejiggered her equipment a bit: Added both a full alchemy lab in her office, and a portable lab in her handy haversack. Also got another dose of poison.

GM Zed |

So you folks have got quite a lot of things juggling around at the moment... I thought it might be worth recapping...
1) You have opened the old chest from Old Bill's - it contained a heap of old receipts (all at least thirty years old) and a gear mechanism... You could:
- Go and get a Psychomytric reading of the contents of the old chest,
- Try to determine if there is any invisible writing on the receipts... Elliomander has the equipment and skills to do this but would need to get stuff from his shop,
- Go to Grindlylow's Grinders and ask about the gear mechanism that Old Bill never returned.
2) Furthermore, you have a list of current customers that Old Bill had - a plan was starting to form as to an order in which to visit them.
3) Finally, Amelia was suggesting using her contacts to try to dig around for Muncy's history / old associates.

Amelia Blackheart |

We could try to multi-task on some of these? Elliomander and someone to protect him do some analysis on the receipts? Take the gear, some receipts and the chest to the Psychometrist with the rest of the group?
Tonight Amelia and Gar do the contacts, tomorrow we go to Grindylow's first, then the questioning of the customers?

Gar the Red, Brother in Silence |

Ah, choices! The emergency brake of PbP games! Amelia's suggestions sound fine, handling the "side quests" separately before tackling the clearer objectives as a group?

Gar the Red, Brother in Silence |

Unexpected travels today and, wow, did this thread blow up! GM, would Gar have had time to don his armor hastily? I'm guessing that no one else would have hung back to help him put it on, so I'm still looking at 4 minutes of time. Otherwise my options are to (1) miss the combat entirely (not happening!) or (2) fighting this one without armor.

Well... I think that the nature of Vera's sudden exit from the house (accompanied by a jaunty 'the game's afoot') means that if Gar was stopping to don armour he was going to be left behind!!!

Lilly the Phantom |

...any victory, were such an abomination to be comprehending of the notion, is short-lived though as Lilly - a sight one hundred times more hideous than that presented by the hounds - hovers over the burning creature - crashing down against the hound, she crushes it against the cobbled ground... bones shattering as the 'life' finally leaves the corpse...
Lilly bows. "Told you I'd make them wizz their pants..."

Amelia Blackheart |

As to taking fire damage from punching the burning dogs, unless the power specifically says that happens, it's a GM ruling thing. Since it's only doing 1d6 per round, I'd be surprised if it can do more than 1 pt of damage on a hit.

On an totally unrelated note: I just bought my Paizocon 2017 4-day pass and preview banquet ticket.
This will be my fist Paizocon... and the first gaming convention I will have atteneded in over 25 years!
Is anyone in this group planning to go to Paizocon this year?

Sadly, Paizocon is a long long way from the UK so, much as I would love to go, I'll just have to dream...

Amelia Blackheart |

Would love to, but work...

Thankfully, my wife has enough airline miles to fly to the moon and back... so spending 5000 of them isn't going to make much of a difference.

GM Zed |

Since the "on screen" scene with Gar has closed, i'll wait until GM reunites us to post.
Just wanna say Zed's descriptions are fantastic!
Thanks!!! Partly riffing off of the text in the adventure itself and ad-libbing the additional bits where we head off-piste... hopefully it's seamless enough in its tone!!! I think we'll just let Elliomander, Vera and Mama Frill finish their initial examinations of the carts contents and then I'll bring Gar and Amelia straight back into it...

GM Zed |

So, I thought it would be worth underlining what all the potential / current lines of investigation are such that things don’t get lost in the various posts… there's been quite an explosion of information, intrigue and evidence - plus you folks have been operating as two separate teams so some stuff risks falling down the gaps...
Lines of Investigation…
Crime Scenes / Location of Interest
- Crime Scene at Old Bill’s
- Crime Scene at the Violet Lady’s
- The Cart at Grindlylow’s Grinders
Inspector Muncy
- Inspector Muncy (midday appointment at the Guild of the Bounty Hunters)
- Investigations into Inspector Muncy’s past - Note from Amelia’s Contact suggesting ‘Windrayke, The Queen’s Own’
William Hughe / Old Bill
- Old Bill’s customers
- The key from Old Bill’s Cart
- The ancient advertisement for Madam Larua, Teller of Fortunes

GM Zed |

So, as yuletide approaches, I shall take my opportunity to crawl out from behind the GM's screen and wish you all a Happy Christmas (or other non-denominational greetings of the season)... it's been a great start to this twisted little adventure and, whilst I am sure things will slow down a little over the holidays, I am looking forward to seeing where this all goes!!!

Mama Frill |

I figure on the walk to the meeting would be a good time for the two groups to compare notes and tell each other of anything they found, including the Bloody Jack legend. Frill would want the other two to know all the yucky details, just so they'd know what they all were getting themselves into.

Cool... I'm leaving you folks some space to RP this out... If you need him, your intrepid GM will be sat on the sidelines, drinking cheap mulled wine and cackling...

GM Zed |

The curtain lowers for an Intermission...
So, as this festive season settles down across the land, the question that you should ask yourself is 'Have I been good this year?' ...and if the answer is 'Yes' then turn away now for GM Zed needs someone with evil running cold and hard in their veins, to uphold the rule of law in the face of the bleating flock of the populace, to swear fealty to the very denizens of hell... in short, GM Zed needs a Hellknight!!!
One of my Emerald Spire games is going to drop from five players to four shortly - our stout-hearted warrior has IRL decided to build a tribe of little folk and is therefore needing to step away from the game. We are on the cusp of Level 11 in the superdungeon and will be character level 9 in the near future... and, as to why the adventurers might have a Hellknight travel with them? Well they are somewhat bound by the will of the commander of the nearby Hellknight Garrison and, I think, it should make for a pretty exciting dynamic given the backgrounds of the current players!!!
So, before I put this out on any kind of wider recruitment thread, I thought I'd see if there was any interest within my current players... anyone fancy a seat at the table? Post here or PM me... BTW, it's a really good group and we've got a great posting rate / dynamic going on... hopefully I'm offering a fun game to someone here :)

Amelia Blackheart |

Just one problem Mama Frill, Amelia got you all, but Gar was at the Guild getting the meeting room, so we would't all be together on the walk. That's why I posted I'd assumed the trio had waited to compare notes until Gar was there. Gar told everyone about The Violet Lady's death, but nobody has posted anything about what the trio found yet.

Lilly the Phantom |

The $*#$*7 game is fine Zed, quit $*#$&% fishing for #*($#*@# $#(*#$$%& compliments...

Amelia Blackheart |

Lilly! Do behave!
Sorry Zed, the game is quite lovely so far. Please do ignore Lilly's outbursts...

Oh man... Bring back the quiet dignity of Tik'klik!!!

Gar the Red, Brother in Silence |

I was? I figured I was present with the rest of the group, and that's why I wrote that Gar would explain the Violet Lady. That was my intention, anyway.
Not a big deal I suppose. Let's move forward!

Amelia Blackheart |

I thought you did that after we all arrived at the guild, it made sense, since Amelia wasn't talking. :)

Gar the Red, Brother in Silence |

Zed, emerald spire sounds fun but I'll have to sit this one out. Time is at a premium!
I thought you did that after we all arrived at the guild, it made sense, since Amelia wasn't talking. :)
Granted, the prior scene with me in it completely passed by before I'd had a chance to post, so the timeline is a little vague. But I never wrote that Gar went to the guild. I assume that he's sticking with the group (unless I or GM say otherwise), not running errands.
Game on!
