Blood River
Game Master
GM Grimm
An historical fiction Wild West campaign, infected with undeath. Home brew sandbox.
Another challenge will be to figure out how to keep it gritty and xenophobic without getting flagged.
I'm going to start working on maps and sketches.
Magic will be very discreet. Magic items are somewhat rare. They will be discreet as well. They may not remain so at the end, but I am going for dark, gritty realism in the beginning.

Just to be sure, I'm not getting Gun Training instead of Gunsmith, right? I don't think that question got answered.
I believe I did approve the gun training. Is that what you wanted? I remember looking at your character and reading your request and thinking that it would be ok.
Ranger 2
It's all in the suggestion of grit and nastiness. ;)
Time for me to do a little reading so that Many Clouds does not sound like a caricature.
Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

Oh my, I'll get this character sheet fully up and running tomorrow!
A couple of quick things. I like to have vital stats in the header, they may be spoilered if you choose, it makes gameplay faster.
I'm using fast advancement, at least through level 5.
HP is one-half hit die plus one plus modifiers. I give some XP for good RP.
I prefer posting once every 1-2 days, but I'm reasonable as long as we communicate.
I'm here to have fun just like you, but I am aiming for a somewhat serious game.
I'm running another historical fiction campaign and I like the way that the gameplay thread is clean. They post their thoughts words and actions and then spoiler the dice rolls for actions. If this is too difficult, let's agree on a uniform choice.
I also like posting the actions in order like this Free action: blank , Move action: etc., Standard action: etc. Again, this is personal preference. If these formalities ruin the game for you just let me know and we'll work something out. Fun is key.
Also, there is the matter of realism. That was a different time and people were regarded and treated differently. While I like to keep things authentic I am unsure what language is allowable by paizo and also I don't want anyone to be offended by use of slang terms. We will have to be careful in this regard.
I am hoping that this will be as exciting for the players as it is in my head.
I will be opening gameplay thread tomorrow. Jump in when your character sheet and header are ready to go.
There will be some maps, but mostly, the campaign will be theatre of the mind.

Random question, can we ignore the encumbrance incurred by money since in the setting it would be paper, not coins?

Has anyone seen fbdaury? He is our final party member.
Correction, I have invited Clementine Baxter to join us as well.

Perhaps we can refer to these as medicinal or healing elixirs.

On profile, pin them into that top line like Samuel Levins did. Same order if possible. It speeds up gameplay.

Would the riders be close enough and unsuspecting enough for sneak attack damage to apply on my shot?
Also I apologize if while tactically sound, my choice to shoot a horse offends some.
You might get one, two if you are lucky, but then be prepared for a barrage of fire.
Too late. Hutton, you rolled a crit, roll to confirm crit and apply extra damage. If you confirm crit, multiply crit damage by 4.

Wait- do Firearms add the Dex modifier to damage or is that a special feature of Edward's character?

Just me, I get one level of Gunslinger's Gun Training in exchange for Gunsmithing when there are Guns Everywhere.

^ that little tidbit above implies this may not be a melee, but a set-up for something. :D
I will be out camping and practicing Lakota words today; please bot as needed. Many Clouds will return Sunday afternoon.

Shooting out an open train window while ducking back behind the window's edge- would that be full or partial cover granted vs. return fire?

Can we make attacks of opportunity with ranged weapons?
Full cover.
And in this case, I would say that you have time to make a ranged AoO. Given the current technology and distance of the riders.

Sorry If I am hogging the action- I don't sleep much and check the boards often. I have a few ideas planned out for how Hutton might react but I want to wait and let the others get a chance to take actions. I know Many Clouds player said to bot him until he gets back this afternoon so maybe I'll just wait for the others.

Ok, one small thing is that you may want to wait some more time before moving the action; I wanted to shoot the guy before he threw the cocktail but didn't have time for a post this morning.
1 person marked this as a favorite.

I understand this. But the attackers needed to flee. They were losing men and you never know when that calvary will show up. Opening these things always seems a bit difficult for me. It should sail smooth after this.

Welcome back Many Clouds- how was camping?
Ranger 2
It was short but sweet. First time just camping with just my younger daughter as opposed to the whole family, and we climbed an enormous rock today...maybe 800 feet of vertical? Walking climbing, not technical rope and piton climbing. :D Well, some scrambling.

With Hutton now expecting danger, he has donned his heavy studded leather duster over his normal leather armor, so I have replaced the +2 AC bonus from leather armor with +3 from studded leather.

GM, I hadn't added Background Skills yet; mind if I bump up Kn Nature to 2 points, count Handle Animal as a Background Skill, and take Kn Geography as a background skill? It might actually be useful...

I am guessing consensus is that the group avoid the tracks into town and trek through the hills?

Sorry for the delay,.. been unable to access internet for a couple of days.
So, something I just realized. Samuel Levins has found a way around my ban on Detect alignment. I am not entirely unhappy about this. I think it just presents the challenge of developing the character's complexity in nature. Or, he could struggle to convince the others of what he knows to be true.
