Looking back, I don't think I was clear enough describing this.
Shadow Eidolon: A shadow caller's eidolon is at once a thing of shadow called from the deep of the Shadow Plane and his own shadow; the two are inseparable. When his eidolon manifests, his shadow lengthens and finally detaches from him as a creature unto itself. For as long as the shadow caller's eidolon is manifested, he and the eidolon do not have distinct shadows, regardless of the presence or absence of light. This lack of a shadow replaces the magical symbol that identifies the summoner and his eidolon.
Emphasis mine.
So my eidolon is my detached shadow given physical form in the shape of a constrictor snake. Not a more usual constrictor snake.| Terquem |
I want to step back a moment, before going forward, and acknowledge that Portia asked a very good question and I failed to address it. She asked Jeannine how long they expected to stay in the caves or ruins they were heading into, and Jeannine would have, should have answered her, but I got all excited about the nighttime encounter and blew past it, sorry Portia. The answer would have been –
“No more than a few days at the most, and if we do not find who we are looking for by then, we’ll go back to Fort Horizon, resupply, and then try again. I do not know how extensive these ruins are, and we’ll have to decide how risky it is exploring them this time before we plan any long term expeditions.”

Terq, when you say "wave" formation, I take it you mean robot enters camp every other round or so, since they are spaced equally apart from one another? Also, how "fast" are they moving? Does it seem like the first wave will get there in 1 round or 2 rounds? How many rounds before there are equal robots vs us?
| Terquem |
I did not get a map built (curse you The Voice!.
The machines are sporead out in a line from north to south, some distance (I'm working out the exact numbers) from the camp to the east.
The ones directly east of you will arrive first, followed by a second wave of them that are the ones to the north (the closer of the line) and then a third wave from the south.
They move slowly (think Zombies). Your character's would not know this, but to help visualize the battle I will tell you they have a movement of 20' per round, and cannot run. I am guessing (cause I haven't built the map yet to help me nail down the particulars) that they are about two to three rounds away.

Okay, at the top of the game thread (and the other threads of this game) is a link to an encounter map.
The white circle with a red ring is the camp fire
The map is zoomed out quite far, in order to show the first ten bugs coming at you from the east. The Bugs are shown as tokens that are bugs even though they are actually machines (couldn't find a good machine token in time). One token is a goblin head, this is the "Head" Machine bug.
Please use the grid reference to tell me where you want to move and what kind of action you want to use to get there (so for instance, a Move action to B,9) and identify the monster you want to attack (if you want to attack) by grid reference and color ring.
Okay?
Tomorrow I will post a game post with Initiative order and GM notes to track the battle.
Good Luck

The first couple of rounds are going to be bumpy as we all get used to each other’s posting styles, but that’s fine with me. Thanks for being patient!
Could you all try to do me a little favor during combat rounds? At the beginning of each of your posts, only during combat, give me an italicized note with the round your actions apply and any buffs/conditions in effect, and their duration remaining.
Like this
Round 2, move action to “X”,”X” | standard action, melee attack against “X”,”X” | Bless, 6 rounds remaining

Holiday Message
For all the players in the United States – I know the next week can be hectic for most of us (I have adult children, four of them, one lives in Hawaii, one in Boise, and the other two in my city of Idaho Falls, and the crazy people are all coming home for Thanksgiving! Ah I’m going to go nuts.) so I don’t expect everyone to be on top of the posting for the next week, but you will see me occasionally. Thanks.

NEWS flash – Hello everybody, Happy Holidays, oh and North Carolina is a beautiful state
NEWS Flashy Flash – getting your flight cancelled, but being told by your employer that you are going anyway so you drive 200 miles in a rental car to the next airport, get rerouted through Los Angeles on a red eye flight at 12:30 am that lands in Charlotte at 8:00 am and then spending the whole day inspecting a machine and documentation so you don’t sleep for 36 hours, not so beautiful, then fly back the next day.
NEWS Flashining – I’m home now, sorry for the delays, I will try to update today, and maybe tomorrow. I expect everyone will be distracted for the next couple of weeks, but that’s okay, we will keep these games floating. Expect to see me post every couple days or more frequently, but no pressure on anyone else. Happy Holidays, again, enjoy

I'm happy to continue, and sorry I haven't posted earlier--my laptop's power cord died and I had to get a new one. That said, I'm going to be traveling to visit family until the coming Sunday, so my posting may be a tad erratic. DMPC me as needed, but I'm in!

For the next couple days I'll be away having "family time" with my wife's family so my posts might be a nonexistent. Terquem I'm giving you my permission to DMPC Sithundan to keep the story moving along in my absence.

Derp, posted this in Recruitment first by accident.
Terquem, I'm sure I'm not the only one in the party who's approaching level-up, so now seems like a good time to ask: how do you handle leveling up? Is it instantaneous, does it happen at the end of a battle, does it happen next time you rest, do you have to back to town before it happens? Do you regain hit points as you gain them (that is, when I get my next d10 hit points, will my current total go up by the same amount or even to max)?
| Terquem |
Good Questions!
I am imagining everyone is ready to level, and I hope everyone is tracking their own experience points.
If you are wounded, and you level, you gain hit points (for leveling), but do not heal.
Resting, heals Level + Con Bonus, for 4+ hours, and level +(2 x Con bonus) for 8 hours
Let's do Max HP for second level, then we'll roll after that.
Let's not complicate leveling with training and such (though that bugs me) and if you earn enough experience points to level, you gain that level immediately after your next four hours of rest.

I will send messages to Portia and Sithundan. I know I drug out the break too long, but hopefully they will come back. Thank you, the rest of you, for sticking around.
Also, I imagine everyone should just go ahead and level their characters to level 2, and we'll try to keep track of experience from here on out a little better.
| Valind |
Still thinking about levelling Valind. Suggestions gratefully appreciated. He doesn't really fit the normal cleric mold very well, but he is the smallest, the fastest and the only full caster left. He's not going to be great at healing ever, and at least level 3.
| Terquem |
Okay, so can I ask everyone to assign 1,300 experience points to thier characters. You are all now level 2. We are using the fast Advancement track.
Can I also ask this question, is it going to be too difficult to track your own experience points? Remember, you should gain 10 (x your level) in experience points for every post made by another character in which you are addressed by name.
| Derrick Tramsen |
Terquem, I tracked my own thus far--went back through the thread to see how often people talked to Derrick by name to count that up when we got our 800. I'm determined to keep better track of it from now on.
Also, bumping us now is helpful, thank you!

Looks good to me.
I think Jeannine is going to suggest that Valind set up a "camp" a place to do surgery, in the first cave the party enters, and that she will even try to convince Karl, Lars, and Bill to allow the party to try and lower the injured Bill down to that cave.
We'll have an uneventful remainder of the night, and in the morning we will get started on skill checks to climb down to that cave. Is everyone on board with this plan?
