Arloric begins the song again and thinks on what foul thing this could possibly be!

Standard Action: Arloric uses Echoes of Nature's Song! Everyone gets +2 to AC and Ref saves again!

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Arloric, knowl.edge (religion):
You don't know what this is. Though you are pretty certain it's not just a ghoul.

Telerin's magic missiles strike the ghostly creature, and they seem to be pretty effective.

AC 16 Mage Amor, touch 12, flat-footed 10 (+2 Dex) hp 48 (7d6) Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +8(+1 Trait bonus to disbelieve illusions); +2 vs. enchantments Defensive Abilities resistance; Immune sleep; Resist fire 5

Is recall an action?

According to the rules, "In most cases, a Knowledge check doesn't take an action". So, no.

AC 16 Mage Amor, touch 12, flat-footed 10 (+2 Dex) hp 48 (7d6) Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +8(+1 Trait bonus to disbelieve illusions); +2 vs. enchantments Defensive Abilities resistance; Immune sleep; Resist fire 5

Male Tiefling (Pitborn) Bard (Filidh) 7|HP: 88/88|AC: 15/10/15|Saves: +3 Fort, +5 Ref, +5 Will|Init: +0|Perc: +12

"This is no ordinary ghoul!" Arloric calls in time with the beat of the song, stating the obvious.

Reeling from the spectral tough that seems to claw at her very soul, Darya retaliates with a pair of strikes, the legendary blade sizzling as it passes through the undead creature. "That much I can tell!"

Alexa tries to determine if the ghoul is extraplanar in nature...

Knowledge *Planes?*: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Telerin, knowledge (religion):
This is an undead creature known as a berbalang. You've heard that they can project their spirit, and in spirit form they can wander a significant distance from their body.

Alexa, it is not extraplanar.

Darya slashes at it with Radiance. The first stroke just barely misses, but the second one connects. She sees the sword pass through the ghostly creature, and though it does seem to hurt it the blade is clearly not very effective against it.

Round 1

The wizardress will communicate what she knows to the group This is an undead creature known as a berbalang. You've heard that they can project their spirit, and in spirit form they can wander a significant distance from their body.

Alexa , let me know if you want to take an action. Otherwise, moving on.

The berbalang's spirit form presses the attack against Darya.

berbalang, incorporeal touch attack vs Darya: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Lucky roll again, so your bonuses etc. are unchanged.

Eyes blazing with righteous anger, Darya focuses the burning rage of a warrior angel, striking our with a pair of strike bathed in divine fury.

Radiance/Smite: 1d20 + 12 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 3 = 27
1d10 + 3 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 12 = 17

Radiance/Smite: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 3 = 28
1d10 + 3 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 6 = 10

Attacks ignore all DR. Touch AC increases to 13 (AC goes to 22)

Arloric tosses a javelin towards the incorporeal creature but his aim is off and it strikes the wall beside the door.

Alexa moves in to engage as well, and slashes at it with her gladius. Neither strike comes close.

Darya retaliates with Radiance, and lands two definite blows boosted by holy power, but again, the blade seems far less effective than it should be.

Incorporeal creatures take half damage from corporeal sources. Since it's not DR, Smite Evil doesn't overcome it.

Telerin's magic missiles seemed to have their full effect.

Round 2
berbalang
Telerin, Darya, Arloric, Alexa <---

>>> Combat Map <<<

While the physical weapons are inhibited a bit, your combined attacks are having an impact and the spirit seems to be fading.

@Telerin you are up.

Telerin sends another magic missile at the barbalang's spirit.

Looks like you have two of those memorized.

Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) + 3 = 10

The bolts strike the ghostly figure. It pauses briefly, then vanishes from sight.

Telerin points out that it may not be dead--it may have returned its spirit to its body.

@Party is up.

Would I be able to know if it is?

"The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability."

Darya Flamekissed wrote:

The description for smite evil is purely mechanical in nature, stated in terms of a visible target, attack rolls, and bonuses to AC. I say that you would know smite evil is working when you were engaged with the target of your smite. But since you can't see a target at this point, you don't have a sense for whether the effect is still there.

That being said, Telerin's knowledge of Berbalangs tells you that destroying the spirit projection doesn't kill the creature, though it does leave them diminished.

Alexa moves through the door, entering the inner chamber of the tomb.

It's not just dark there, it is unnaturally so. Beyond the boundaries of Darya's aura, Alexa cannot see anything at all.

This is clearly a magical darkness. The VTT doesn't deal with magical darkness very well, so assume you cannot see anything that is not directly illuminated by Darya.

Round 3
Telerin, Darya, Arloric, Alexa <---

AC 16 Mage Amor, touch 12, flat-footed 10 (+2 Dex) hp 48 (7d6) Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +8(+1 Trait bonus to disbelieve illusions); +2 vs. enchantments Defensive Abilities resistance; Immune sleep; Resist fire 5

The wizardress will attempt to cast dancing lights in order to light their way.

M

Telerin gestures with a hand as she summons magical flames to light your way, but the magical darkness smothers them completely.

You can tell the spell is active, but the light it emits cannot penetrate the darkness effect. If you move the light into the area illuminated by Darya's aura, you can see the flames.

Round 3
Telerin, Darya, Arloric, Alexa <---

Female Aasimar Paladin (Holy Light) 7/Marshal 2. HP 68/75 ; AC 20/10/20 (24/14/24 during SMITE); F+14 R+7 W+12; Init +3; Smite evil 3/day (1); LOH/Holy Light 9/day(3);Mythic 7/day (1) Acid 5, Electricity 5, Cold 5:Daylight (0/3)

Staring into the Darkness beyond, Darya's eyes blaze with intensity as she calls upon her inner light reaching our to dispel the darkness around her. "Darkness is merely the absence of light. We bring the light against which the darkness has no choice, but to flee!"

Daylight sla 60ft radius. "Daylight counters or dispels any darkness spell of equal or lower level, such as darkness."

So everything within 60ft of Darya is normal light as if unaffected by Darkness, and within 30ft, further illuminated by her Halo as it would be in normal conditions.

I thought you already had this activated. My bad!

Female Aasimar Paladin (Holy Light) 7/Marshal 2. HP 68/75 ; AC 20/10/20 (24/14/24 during SMITE); F+14 R+7 W+12; Init +3; Smite evil 3/day (1); LOH/Holy Light 9/day(3);Mythic 7/day (1) Acid 5, Electricity 5, Cold 5:Daylight (0/3)

I had the Halo activated already. I just used Daylight to completely negate the Darkness within 60ft. So that area is normal light now, and further illuminated by the Halo as if the Darkness wasn't there

A Lightbringer Paladin can be pretty awesome...niche, but thematically awesome!

Daylight is cast on an object and sheds light. The only time it outright dispels Darkness is when they are cast on the same object, e.g. enemy casts Darkness on a stone, and you cast Daylight on the same stone. Otherwise, you are just bringing light into an area of darkness, and the areas overlap (and Daylight wins, because it's a higher spell level than Darkness).

Female Aasimar Paladin (Holy Light) 7/Marshal 2. HP 68/75 ; AC 20/10/20 (24/14/24 during SMITE); F+14 R+7 W+12; Init +3; Smite evil 3/day (1); LOH/Holy Light 9/day(3);Mythic 7/day (1) Acid 5, Electricity 5, Cold 5:Daylight (0/3)

So I cast it on my armor. Wherever I go Daylight wins for 6oft.

Male Tiefling (Pitborn) Bard (Filidh) 7|HP: 88/88|AC: 15/10/15|Saves: +3 Fort, +5 Ref, +5 Will|Init: +0|Perc: +12

Arloric grunts and cringes a bit as Darya summons her light.

"That...that actually kind of hurts my eyes a bit...weird..."

The others may notice that though Arloric's regular eye is squinting in reaction to the light, the eye he normally keeps covered is wide open, golden iris and black sclera staring, not even blinking.

He goes to follow Alexa, resuming the song after his reaction interrupted it briefly.

Continuing the song and moving to the square just above Alexa.

Light erupts into the inner chamber of the tomb as Darya steps through the doorway. The room here looks much light the foyer: smashed urns and, presumably, the ashen remains they contained, litter the floor. The only difference is there are fewer bones. Tracks in the ashes lead around the corner.

Round 4

Berbalangs do not have the "evil" subtype, so their natural attacks are not evil-aligned. Thus, Alexa's DR applies. They aren't outsiders, though, so Darya would not deal the extra damage. Regardless, none of these rolls are high enough to hit.

Alexa successfully fends off the paralysis affect. She and Darya retaliate with their blades, but none of their blows penetrate its hide.
