Vagantem Aere
|
Vagantem, having expected something like this and turned in early, even with the offer of free ale, jumps out of bed.
Trying to stifle a yawn that she can't quite hide, the knife-woman eyes up the captain.
"Good morning Captain."
This will be the moonlight walk down the river I was predicting.
Savron Gloomnar
|
Hearing the noice Savron springs out of bed.
"What is this? Is that you Captain?". Savron picks up hid scorpion that is scurrying about on the floor.
Why do I think it's going to be like this the whole time. Perhaps I should hex him.
Blazin' Bailey
|
Bailey rolls slightly, but gets up after a minute or so. "Good morning, everyone. Today I have found my individuality has been replaced with the desire for mindless conformity. Not to mention, my love for negotiation, whether peaceful or pyromaniacal, and art have been swapped for relentless bloodlust."
"Ha! I got you, didn't I? Never mind, I'm still Bailey, that sociopath you know and love! Anyway, what fun things are we doing today?"
GM Batpony

The captain stares coldly and silently waiting for the rest of the group to wake up. She pays no attention to the small talk the group attempts to engage in.
Haldoc Tisbane
|
What the blazes? Not knowing what the meaning of the interruption actually is, Haldoc gets out of bed and waits to find out.
Rolvark the Wanderer
|
Rolvark inwardly groans at the noise I barely slept! as he forces himself out of bed. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he blurrily looks around to see what the other soldiers are doing
GM Batpony

She maintains her quiet but mean looking demeanor as you all get out of bed. Your attention is questionable, and she then looks to inspects your beds. “You can’t even make a bed. How can I trust you to oil a sword or maintain armor, let alone fight for the empire?” Captain Othis then confiscates the bedding.
You return to sleep. Everyone wakes up fatigued for sleeping on hard bedding. If you have any means of stopping yourself from this fatigue, by all means go ahead.
At 6.00am, Captain Othis, returns again with the same makeshift drum from the night before and continues the same routine until all is ready and bed is made. "You're a bunch of lazy worms! Come on! Get out of bed!" Once ready and dressed, you're taken to the mess hall for some gruel. Which taste nasty.
From 6.30am to 9.30am, you are tasked to do Labor. This task usually involves unloading deliveries for the armory and kitchen as well as weapon and armor maintenance.
From 9.30am to 12.00pm, the new recruits, (only the pathfinders, in case you were wondering), are given small brushes and harsh soap to clean their living quarters, the mess hall, and other common areas. This is tiresome labor. PCs must succeed at a DC 10 Fortitude save or be fatigued, if you did not stop that earlier fatigue, you could be exhausted.
Vagantem Aere
|
Vagantem scowls at the captain.
"At least on a pirate ship the beds were warm." she mutters quietly to herself.
Fatigued
She sylph, never the more enduring of creatures suffers horribly from the gruelling work schedule. However she bites her tongue and tries to stop complaining. Too loudly. At least when there are officers about.
fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Buy the end of the day though, she is exhausted.
"Bet the food isn't any better tonight."
Savron Gloomnar
|
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
"I hope this does not go on like this for too long. This fatigue will not be good for any of us."Savron gives a slight sigh. "I still say I should put a hex on him. At least send the scorpion into his bed."
Viorec Goldhand
|
*sigh* I pick my character with Profession (soldier) for this mission, and the one day it'd make a big difference is the day that I can't post...assuming it's too late now. Sorry guys. :(
Viorec, who normally would have realized immediately what was going on, proves to be a deep sleeper, only waking up once the captain is already in the room. S#!+! Oh, she's going to be pissed... He is, at least, not wrong.
Viorec, having been through this before, doesn't try to engage the group in small talk. He wakes up as tired as the rest of them, though, and sets about his work silently and diligently.
Fort DC 10: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
He claps Vagantem on the shoulder as he joins the others at lunchtime. "Chin up, eh?" he says wearily. "Gorum's blade, I'd forgotten what a crock of s**! basic training is. Guess it's been a while...and besides, I was on a different track." Frowning at Savron, he adds, "That seems like a bad idea. She doesn't strike me as the kind of woman likely to be put off by creepy-crawlies. Best case, you might lose your familiar! I'd not take such a risk with Goryu."
GM Batpony
|
As a consolation, unless you posted first and the group followed your lead, they would all be punished regardless. But yes, you are also punished for not waking up as the captains patience wore out.
Blazin' Bailey
|
This is what I get for dumping strength...My score is now 1. This should be interesting!
Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Bailey, already tired from an uncomfortable sleep, is pushed to his limit by the intense labor. He is barely able to stand from the weight of his clothes, so he takes off his armor and leaves all of his gear by his bed. He doesn't even have the energy to banter as he can barely lift 20 pounds off of the ground. "If I don't make it...tell them I died a hero," he croaks, using up his allotment of speech and wit for some hours.

Two hours into the cleaning, Captain Othis stomps through the area. She comes in wearing muddy boots and walks all over the floor that you all just cleaned. She watches you all as you work, leaving a very dirty mud stain floor.
Status:
Fatigue: Rolvark, Viorec, Savron
Exhausted: Bailey, Vagantem

A dance with luck! I like it.
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
The captain dismisses Vagantem's rubblings, her hearing is not as good as it once was.
Savron Gloomnar
|
Savron grudgingly continues on with this meaningless task.
"Is it going to be like this the whole time? Are there not better things to do?"
Savron puts his head down and scrubs as best he can.
This is pointless. Keep laughing at me familiar and I'll have you for lunch.
Savron gives a scolding look towards his familiar scurrying about on the floor.

I'm going to assume no one is silly enough to provoke her during her time of watching you and move us on. Lots and lots of skill checks ahead of us!
After what seems to be forever of the captain needlessly staring at you do your works. She is unable to find anything wrong, and leaves. But she glances at you menacingly, as if she's watching and waiting for you to screw up in her eyes. After cleaning, around 12.00pm, a well earned 30 minute lunch break is served. Your lunch consist of bread, salt pork, and lentil stew. Not much, but enough to keep stomachs filled.
After lunch, the real test starts as you are led into yard where you join the rest of the group. You practice forming ranks, marching, responding to various commands, and learning chants and cadences with the soldiers..
"GET IN LINE WORMS!!" Yells the drill sergeant.
Mechanially, you prove your mastery by making either a Perform (oratory) or Proffession (Soldier) check. Not going to let you know the DC since you don't really know if you're doing it well or not. Heh. Heh.
Viorec Goldhand
|
Profession (Soldier): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The chants of the Opaline Vault are strange to Viorec--the rhythms seem off, somehow, not what he would have expected. It takes him a while to find his place.
Blazin' Bailey
|
Perform (oratory, untrained), Inner Beauty: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Bailey chants well enough, but his physical state is making it difficult to do the rest to an optimal standard. Hopefully, that will be enough. I just want to go to bed...
Vagantem Aere
|
As profession is trained only :-( I guess it is perform
Vagantem does her best to shout "yes sergeant"
perform: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
However in her tired state she has a hard time just walking a straight line, let alone shouting joyfully.
I assume the lunch break was not long enough to remove the exhausted condition?
Haldoc Tisbane

Haldoc tries to stay in line and do as requested.
Perform (Oratory): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Rolvark the Wanderer
|
perform (oratory): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Rolvark awkwardly tries to form ranks and learn the chants, but it is so at odds with his free spirited nature that he fails miserably at this.
Yep, soldier's life is definitely NOT my thing
Savron Gloomnar
|
Untrained Soldier: 1d20 ⇒ 19
"I do believe this is not goint to work out in our favor.
I am not solider. There is something I can be doing instead of this.Something always needs hexing.
Savron does his best to stay in line and not draw attention to himself.
GM Batpony

Savron, you can't make profession check's untrained unfortunately. But I'll consider that as your perform roll.
The group clearly struggles to make an impact to marching orders, and on the overall, the captain and sergeants are unimpressed. However they close an eye to the poor performance for now.
Unforunately, you will remained fatigued/exhausted for the whole day, and it will show in the next following checks!
"Recruits," barks Captain Othis, "your job now is to do the simplest of tasks... complete the obstacle course. I am sure that puddle scum like yourselves will founder in the ability to do so, but it is my job to see that you don't completely embarrass the Ungrounded. Can you manage this?"
The first obstacle is a 10 inch wide log spanning a 10 foot wide gorge. You must cross it successfully to make an impact in training.
Skill checks: 2 consecutive acrobatics DC12 to succeed, if you fail either make a reflex save. After everyone has made 1 attempt across the log, you may attempt to retry if you failed. Fatigue penalty is -1, exhausted penalty is -2. I've uploaded a table to keep track of your successes and failures on the maps & handouts
Haldoc Tisbane
|
Acro modified for fatigue: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Reflex for failed attempt, modified: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Acro Retry for failed first attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Vagantem Aere
|
Is that penalty in addition to the -6 to DEX that we get from being exhausted? I'm kind of hoping that it is a replacement, of course with this rolling it might not make a difference..
acrobatics,exhaustion: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 2 = 3
ref, exhaustion: 1d20 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 3 = 17
Not sure if I should try to make the second check, after what is hopefully an okay reflex save. If allowed, just use the retry rolls
Vagantem, trying to show off, slips on the board, but gracefully recovers.
-=-=-=-= Retry -=-=-=-=-=-=-=
acrobatics,exhaustion: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 2 = 16
acrobatics,exhaustion: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 2 = 22
Taking her time she gracefully recovers Or goes back to the start and does it properly this time.
GM Batpony
|
Replacement! It's not additional. The reflex save is to avoid fall damage and not stay on the board. Therefore if your first check fail you shouldn't make the second check. I'm okay to consider you better rolls for the next round of attempts but I'll hold on now and say you have not attempted the second round yet.
Haldoc and Vagantem attempt the board, they barely get halfway before they fall off. They are able to fall on soft mud as oppose to the jagged rocks luckily. The captain snickers and shouts "NEXT!" as they move at the back of the line.
Viorec Goldhand
|
Acrobatics DC 12: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 1 = 12
Acrobatics Take 2: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 1 = 5
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 1 = 8
Viorec makes it most of the way across the narrow log before slipping, letting out an oath as his arms pinwheel.
...And as he probably plunges to his doom on the rocks. :P
Blazin' Bailey
|
Acrobatics, Exhausted: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Acrobatics, Exhausted: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Reflex, Exhausted: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Bailey makes it a fair amount before falling, yelling hoarsely all the short way down.
GM Batpony
|
The dice does really hate you guys!
Viorec and Bailey attempt to show therest of the group how it's done, they both make it halfway at least before falling off, failing their first attempt. Their falls are unfortunately not on soft ground as they bruise themselves on a bed of jagged rocks. The captain snickers and laughs at your failings. "Is this what the pathfinders are made off? You're a bunch of jelly worms! What about the last two? GO!" She screams at Rolvark and Savron.
Viorec dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Bailey dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Rolvark the Wanderer

acrobatics, fatigued: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 1 = 15
acrobatics, fatigued: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 1 = 20
Finally, something that doesn't involve all that silly 'staying-in-formation' nonsense!
Rolvark skillfully makes his way across the gorge.
Savron Gloomnar
|
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 1 = 19
"I am a witch. Not an acrobat.!"
Savron makes it halfway before falling.
GM Batpony
|
"Only one.." She mutters as she witnesses another failure from the pathfinders, but she does not looked pleased either with Rolvark's successful attempt. "Onwards! You have bore me enough." She says out of some sort of frustration after all the failings.
You guys have made too many fails to retry..
The area beyond the pit is covered in a tangle of metal wire scattered with glass, sharp rocks, and broken bricks. A crawlspace 2 feet in height is the only passage through the detritus. The Captain waits impatiently tapping her feet, "Well.. I'm waiting.." as you slowly figure that you are meant to crawl across the small passage to the other side.
Similar deal as before. No dmg or reflex needed for failing this time though. Two DC12 Escape Artist Checks successfully, any fail causes you to retry from the start.
Viorec Goldhand
|
"I have no spell for this," Viorec mutters bitterly. "I suppose there's nothing for it..."
I assume the same penalty applies.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 1 = 18
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 1 = 17
Getting down on his hands and knees, he grimaces and begins to worm/army crawl his way forward. Somewhat to everyone's surprise (including his own), he makes it through without too much difficulty. Maybe this is starting to come back to me...
Blazin' Bailey
|
Escape Artist, Exhausted: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Escape Artist, Exhausted: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Bailey nurses his arms and thinks up an extensive string of profanity as he rises up, only to get back down again to traverse the next obstacle. He feels he is doing reasonably part of the way, but soon after is forced to crawl back out.
Vagantem Aere

escape artist,fatigue: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 2 = 10
escape artist,fatigue: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 2 = 16
Once again, the tired cook can't quite make her way through.
"If I'd had a decent nights sleep.." she mutters, hair plastered with mud.
Savron Gloomnar
|
Escape artist: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Escape artist: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Savron is too fatigued to accomplish the meaningless task.
"I agree Vagantem. Maybe after more sleep."
GM Batpony
|
"Need I remind you in war there is no time to sleep. You show me more and more how you are more worm than man." The captain retorts and snickers at the pathfinders. She looks bemused at the miserable obstacle attempt so far.
Rolvark and Haldoc are up.
Rolvark the Wanderer
|
escape artist, fatigued: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 1 = 8
escape artist, fatigued: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 1 = 12
Rolvark attempts to crawl through the passage but is unable to navigate it successfully...
GM Batpony

Haldoc, EA, fatigue: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 1 = 6
Haldoc, EA, fatigue: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 1 = 11
Haldoc attempts the obstacle last, and similarly, does it to no avail. "You are worst than I imagine.." The captain makes clear her disappointment once again and waste no more time on this course. You're led around it to the next area. While doing so she reminds you all of how 'worthless' you are.
Not very far off, A 15-foot-tall stone wall faces you. The sheer rock wall looks very difficult to climb. She points to the wall, and ask "So who's going to be the first failure?" Climb DC20
Since you climb at quarter speed; you will need two successful checks (assuming 30ft speed) to get through to the top. Any result less than DC15 assumes you fall and have to possibly try again. If not too many fail again, that is.
Savron Gloomnar
|
Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
"Climbing and acrobats are not in my list of things I do. If you want me to curse something then consider it done. I hope there are not too many more obstacles."
Savron has a look of frustration on his face as he tries to climb but falls back down.
