A fantastic writer and his loss is a great blow. NON-STOP and HOTHOUSE are fantastic novels which do not feel like like they were written 60 years ago (!) and the HELLICONIA TRILOGY is simply required reading for any fan of science fiction (not to mention being a brilliant SF riff on the "long seasons" concept later used by ASoIaF/GAME OF THRONES). Some of Aldiss's late work was also fantastic, such as HARM, a blistering evisceration of Islamophobia in the wake of the War on Terror.
He was a smart, intelligent and savvy writer who used language brilliantly.
