yeah as treasurer i dont really want to get into fiat currency and this blue stone is more valuable to town A than B so we are going to use them as $100 in town A and not $5 in town B. or putting out fake money so we eventually DO have a system that isnt backed on actual gold.
===============================
i DO however agree that we could make coinage without a mint, using weights. this is in fact the method i would prefer. here are my reasons:
1.) everyone is antsy to have gold pieces for some reason. it is really taking up a lot of posts and time to try to solve this issue.
2.) the mint is ludicrously and prohibitively expensive. we would bankrupt ourselves making it now (making it later doesnt seem like an option due to point #1) and even then we are losing out on production of metals that have utility NOW to make coins with the mint that we hope will have utility LATER.
================================
in summary, Fabricator could use his time to BE a mint. literally, through the use of the craft skill, take raw copper and silver and turn it into coins. then maybe everyone would stop getting so nit-picky about hypothetical economies.

I cant tell if this conversation is incharacter or not. im assuming it is not because because well this is the discussion/ooc sub-board of the campaign.
One of the challenges ive set for you IS to create a legit stable economy, not one based on the us currency that no npc that I control would have any reason all to think that you not either crazy or insane or just a lier.
Im trying to save you diplomatic issues and a war for that matter down the road. BUT if you want to say that X is worth Y you are players are more then welcome to do so. Just know that it is not a good or lawful act.
Mechanically I am ruling that no currency can be created without a valid mint. At least no other nation, or your followers will believe its worth anything.
I will rule if you want that Fiat currency can be created, but just as the US government currency is not controlled by the government. So too will your value of fiat currency not be up to the council and infact will 100% of the time be worth less then the materials used to create it.
To be honest. I don't want to control a type of currency that has never been allowed or even asked about in any previous game I have every played or run.
Nobody asked about it because its cheating.
1 gp is worth 1gp regardless of the country that makes it.. That has been a standard since before dnd was even called dnd. I am not going to change that.
You have 1 copper and 1 iron mine atm, you do not know of any other mineral veins, infact those two squares that have the mines in.. have not been prospected to see if there was a second vein of something in them.
For council purposes. 1K of stone and 1K of grapes are the same thing. Both are worth 1000gold The grapes it may be 100x as much as the stone or copper by volume, but by value it is the same.
If it would be easier to think of that way I will remove the breakdown of what you have and just call the haven treasure as x K of materials.
I didn't realize that if you didn't have someone to train the new feat it would cost double.. I must have skipped that part.
The feat retaining takes all of your 100 gold. that would give you another day to do something with. and based on that its been a few days and nobody has offered to give you the coin you asked for I think it is safe to assume that everyone else has refused as well.

I just got home from most the day up there with mom. Still docs have no clue whats going on with her. They ruled out tons of things.. but still a big ? whats what. I havnt had the time this week to compile things, w mom ive been a bit distracted.. So tonight/tomorrow Ill wrap up the week and merge the first months council meeting into the current meeting, so since everyone IS there.. you should probably respond to your marshal and explorers question.

I did not realize that you doubt the stability of the US economic system or its fiat currency or whatnot. Ideally real-world politics will not intrude in the game, so I will try to avoid bringing up things related to this in the future. :D
I may just be confused what you were thinking of for this type of game. It seemed like the point was doing this exact type of thing, but perhaps it's more about building stuff like the old pioneers. I found it a bit odd, because it seemed like we were rather wealthy, so that threw me off a bit.
The main thing that I am confused about is what needs gold pieces and what needs a certain value of materials. I do not happen to know the immutable laws of magic and most campaigns don't have much of a barrier in converting materials to money, so typically that's not something brought up.
I think the weights solution is probably the easiest. However, to deal with this diplomatic issue, I can deal with this during my trade negotiations. The weights can just be used internally to facilitate the bartering. As for trading with other nations, the issue of weight currency will not be a problem if we do not buy anything of theirs with our weight currency. As long as gold flows into our treasury, then it shouldn't ever be necessary to build a mint. If we ever ally them, I'm sure they wouldn't mind helping us out by using their mint to mint our metals for a small fee on our part.
Which reminds me, how much in materials do we have now?

I can see that but we can get around them with trade or building a mint. Look at it this way, level 1 and you have a 3000gp weapon and an intelligent Headband of Vast int +4. I have a folding boat and at my last check a wayfinder valued at minimum 47,000 by item creation rules not counting the parts that don't fit with standard spells. Giri has an orb of permanent weather control. I don't even know how to value that. The closest is an orb of storms at 48,000. We are at a point were we don't need more stuff. That may change but that is why we can buy a mint when we are in a better position to afford it.

@Verio I am pretty sure you can only issue the edict on the first of the month at the kingdom turn this is just our first down time week. Also we need to decide how long I am going out. and you need to roll the 1d4 BP per month cost.
@Usul you said you wanted to travel with Resnit looking at the rules I think that's not the best idea. He will be gone a whole month and that will add penalties to the town in the early days. I am planning on scouting the current borders of our territory with Girianar and the ten warforged rangers could you go with then instead.

I doubt any system of currency that is just based on what someone says it is. I was a bubblehead for my uncle sam for a bit, I don't doubt the country or the colors. just the fact that never in my life was a silver dollar really an ounce of silver & the fact that the federal mint is not actually part of the national government -its private.
Fair enough, that is true. It's like the good ol days of the 1700s. Yar!"
That is it EXACTLY. well almost. Think of it like you just landed so to speak at Plymouth rock yet you found no natives. Well one body but it was aged so much that it turned to dust at the touch of a warforged.

Buildings and all other info related to the council turn.
I would suggest looking through there to get familiar with your roles if you haven't already. Also consider a few buildings that you think would serve your role the best to bring up when joel walks you all through the meeting format.. its somewhat formal. but should be easy to get the hang of.

Velario we can this month
claim 1 settlement or make or improve 1 army
and
make 2 buildings
and
make 3 terrain improvemmnts
and
claim 2 hexes this month.
so we could build an army for x bp
and
three houses for 9bp since the first house construted a turn doesnt count against our building limit.
and
build 2 quarry's and a road for 12 + the road cost
and
spend two Bp claiming hexes
this month alone
On top or the edicts.

Resnit You can actually have two groups of explorers out. One that you lead personally consisting of your private unit of elite woodsmen and whomever else you wish. And one either led by or the marshal or warden or one of your woodsmen.
That's the benefit of having an Explorer, its a whole second expedition so to speak. You have the final say of any expeditions that take place father than 1 square from claimed land. Anything 2 or more out you have to approve. So if you are in the field, it can not be launched. And if you die no expeditions can happen until you are replaced. So don't die :)

Population: A settlement's population is approximately equal to the number of completed lots within its districts × 250.
This will change things. I need to reprocess things based on that.
You are going to have a fair bit larger population then I had first thought.
Let me re-evaluate population totals.
Currently your buildings comprise 21 Lots worth of buildings
That would mean you have a population of 5250?
Am I correct?

As you have looked around town this week it some things do not add up at all.. There should be a population of over five thousand souls here in Haven, by right of all the buildings and improvements and what not. But there isn't at all. Something strange is going on but with all the craziness of being in a new world and meeting the warforged for the first time, who knows whats going on really.

Im sorry, had issue with my mouse randomly not being a valid usb device, its been sent to mfg and new one in route. borrowed a Bluetooth one from my dads work in meanwhile. Attempted to continue this a couple times but it required a hard reboot to get the mouse to work again.. for all a minute once windows was loaded. I was able to make a couple posts but not a longer one.. and the next post from me requires a bit of the {code} stuff in it. Expect it within the hour.

cant find class arcanist anywhere. is it something else and your just calling it that or do my searching skills just suck.
With everything that has happened in the past 8 days of your lives.. Your just soaking up experience like a sponge :) From my tally you all are roughly halfway to 4th @ standard rate.

also, from two levels, need to select bonus infusions. Did a psionic one already, so upcoming is one arcane and one divine.
I picked:
Cure Light Wounds (from Bard spell list)
Cultural Adaptation (from Cleric Spell List)

Craft Reserve is 60, you havnt spent any yet - correct? You now can also drain the potential from an item of magic and add it to your reserve. As an Eberron artificer gets at 5th. Remember at 5th you will be able to draw xp from another person or character to add to your reserve.
Bard: Horn of pursuit
Cleric: Enhance Water

Well Time is relative. I could get into a big discourse on it but then.. it would just be a theory as I the player don't know exactly how it works. Ive been reorganing my comp area so I can put up a table big enough to hold the info for my three pbp campaigns im running.
The reason I havnt posted is mostly the scanner issue, I got it back it still don't work, so tech told me to go to best buy and exchange it today for a new one so I don't have to wait for it to come in the mail, again.. all in all real frustrating situation, least it broke 2 mths before the warrenty ended. So this afternoon I will doing that and getting it set up and everything squared away here on my end.
I think I will also print and scan a few districts so you guys can see whats there right now in a visual form.. I am still setting up the minecraft version. My brother whos server its being hosted on has had to take it down again to put some more ram and solid state drives into it. he just called that its back up again last night.

Marshal/General (i think you two are the ones I boosted to 5th at start) They can be sixth and have leadership free if they want, not that either would have personal followers yet, but the potential certainly.
Far as time.. I was thinking a week at a time for the four weeks in a months action. perhaps could just do the whole month at one time as well. I really am not sure what would be best format for play by post. a post per day will be vary slow, imo

That's what im thinking Feorina, either 1 or 2 weeks for a month.. daily is just going to be vary slow.. Stuff like the exploration missions, that will have to be handled daily depending on whats found where.
For now while I get my head out of my tail.. There is a listng of all buildings within haven in the top of page 4 in the recruitment thread. Basically it has 5 sections, 1 is empty.. If you study within the Librarium it will grant a bonus towards the four types of books that are there right now.
Librarium consists of 5 libraries and 1 wizards tower that is sealed away out of your use, the libraries are able to be used though, just not the lab.
Library: Planes
Library: Engineering
Library: Metallurgy
Library: Arcana
Library: Built but Empty

Could you designate a general update day per week to post our monthly updates, so we can keep track of things? Things wouldn't need to be posted on that day necessarily, but just so that we can move on our schedule and not end up a week behind all the time while waiting for a single post.
---
Avelloron, maybe our combined lobbying powers will get us a magical laboratory that we've been pushing for. :P
