Excellent. Here is the alias.

Crunch is about done. Had real fun with it.

Should I slave over the fluff or not? Some GMs like it, others tend not to. I'll be honest, I am one of the latter when I am GM but I usually go overboard as a player.


I'm fine with condensed but put down what you want.

Mostly I care about personality and the chain of events that got us where we are right now. The rest can be as broad or as specific as you like.

As for the initial set up I assume you have a handler and are operating with a very narrow pool of people if only just one as you are just getting started/being vetted.

As a GM I try to honor the effort. IF you give me thirty pages with NPCs and stuff I will make every effort to include them as best I can but then, obviously, I am more constrained by the weight of what I am given...so...maybe not 30 pages ;p


Do you have an idea what my first exotic location will be? Do you want requests or...? I hope you can come up with a varied list of targets.

Should be a fun game.


Well I am going to start you in Ilizmagorti both for logistical and geographical purposes. I figure you have gotten into the first ring (they brought you to the city) and now that you are on the RMA home turf they will put you on your paces a bit before sending you out in the world...


Interesting. Well, I found some fun stuff so I'll probably 'always' be in disguise. Probably upload the crunch and fluff tonight.

Can we start soon? Assuming you like the build and such? or do you need more time to craft the plot once you have it?

Missing a feat?

1-3-Human and I see "Deceitful" and "Extra Inspiration"...missing one?

And off the cuff the equipment seems fine until I see you 3279 gp? Or is the sheet calculating the value of what you have?

Thats all that jumps out at me. I do think the trait where you get extra damage when you are the only person threatening someone is sorta hilarious from a gamesmanship point of view...sort of like "well yah no duh", I like it.


I always pick it for solo games! I can change it if you like.

I did miss a feat, I think I'll go with Great Fortitude and beef up that abysmal Fort. Save.

I used wealth per level. Strictly speaking, I have that much gold left. Do you want me to keep it all or not? I don't really need THAT much money. WBL always gives you too much, imo. But I'm sure I can spend it.

Anything else? Fluff ok?

No no the trait is fine I thought it was funny, like of course you should take that, you are solo. Like one of those neop pruple choices in a build guide.

Fluff is good, I have just the way I mean to introduce you to the game once the sheet is in order.

Desperate Battler: Gain +1 morale bonus on melee attack and damage when alone

I added the 'alone' bonuses to the attack rolls so I don't forget them. I'll almost always be alone. Funny, giving me an ally might actually hinder me. Feel free to use that as a tool!

Just one thing...where is the last place your character remembers being other than Iilzmagorti? (I am going to black bag you to start)


Let's say...Port Peril. Int he Shackles but actually on maps. He was probably trying to get to Iilzmagorti (heck of a name!) himself, but that isn't easy.

Just wanted to say, thanks for giving a solo game a try. GMing is sometimes a thankless task, so thanks!


I'm actually looking forward to it so I appreciate you giving it a try with me at the helm.


Rules Question: Do you rule the 'Hat of Disguise' as a continuous spell? Ie, I put it on and the spell lasts all day. Apparently there is a bit of a debate, would like your opinion, Personally I read it that way, but you are the GM.


Oh it lasts all day. AS the proud owner of one in another game it use is all too uncommon generally and making it last all day is certainly not particularly overpowered in a world where one can be evaporated with a word.


Fun game already. It is nice to try otu what you built the character for right away.

In another game, I played a Bloodrager who was totally built to inflict non-lethal damage unarmed. By chance (the other player didn't know this) when I joined the group, IC, he challenged me to punch him through his mage armor.

My literal first interaction was punching someone non-lethal and unarmed. And I rolled like 17's and 19's too. If it hadn't been for non-lethal I would have killed him.

Fun times!


So on my way in to work this morning I was thinking about making sure that the game had the feeling that Vacutaz was Sherlock Holmes like in his abilities in that his investigatory skills informed his awareness and I was thinking about modifying one of the things I love most about 5E which is passive perception.

What I would propose is that in most situations (basically all non active combat situations) you would be essentially taking ten on your awareness and "knowing" based skills so things like Perception, Survival, Knowledeges, Sense Motive would be actively functioning at 10 plus modifier so in many circumstances I can just assume to tell you things based on those values. I would still encourage rolls and you would still have the option to roll but I was thinking this sort of background house rule might just up the "hmm I notice this and that as I go here and do this thing." type vibe of the game?


It will also give you leverage to tell me stuff for 'plot' reasons. Also, generally it helps in PBP to just dump the info on me to start with. For example, I wish I knew how crowded these docks were, to start planning...

Also, I hope you don't mind all the little jokes in the Dice tags and the ooc. I am usually the GM so I have to be a bit serious. It is nice to loosen up a bit.

Speaking of which how the hell is Survival not a class skill for you? I know they need to balance classes but the entire class is premised around finding things...seems a strange oversight and one I actually wasn't expecting...I might add it to your list or allow Perception to function in its place at some sort of penalty...


Pathfinder seems to count Survival as -Lost in the woods without a compass.

Also, my dice have been hot!


Yeah except for all those pesky tracking things that get lumped into what would basically be forensics...I'll meditate on it because I want there to be some of those things like "Oh this dirt is from a blah blah blah" but I don't want to make the skill distro a burden so...I'll get back to you on that.


As someone who has read every Holmes story at least twice, I agree. Would be fun.


I wonder....How 'good' of a description am I giving? If I give it to someone could he, for example, pick him out of a line-up?


It might be hard to get quite that good. Remember that 1. His face shape was distroted 2. You were forty feet away and tied in a way that made look down "difficult" and 3. Has to deal with a lead time of minutes.

On the flip side the accent isn't common, the guy was bigger than many and in general you have enough that if while maybe not a lineup he would be easier to pick out of folks that people had seen in the last few minutes.


Will keep that in mind.

Also, film noir in a medieval era pirate port. Is that young woman a 'dame'?


Maybe less film noir then, we truck in dames of a different sort in this game ;P

I have been watching the playtest off and on but haven't really looked at the book itself. My LGS is just far enough away to be a hassle to idly browse books so I tend to wait for stuff to show up on the PRD/SRD/ARCHIVES OF NETHYS scene.

That all said I have no doubt that there will probably be some systems we should cannibalize for our purposes.

As for the kid, no nothing too serious. Cold or allergies, not sure which but he can be a handful and sickness just sees to amplify his need to get crazy, lol.


I'm happy me and the wife decided on no kids....no offense, but I don't know how you do it!

Obviously not for this one, since Vacutaz has to prove himself, but will I be 'hiring' NPCs and such for some of the other ones? I'd love to have to assemble a gang or something for a hit.


Potentially. in the near future you will be offered some choices that might dictate how much of an independent operator you are. Time will tell, lol.

Some of the Intrigue stuff in on the SRD, including a new class that is based around disguises and social manipulation....


Oh cool I will take a look at it and we can talk about to what extent we might want to fiddle.


The only downside with this approach....I have a loose end to deal with. Letia will know a good deal too much.


True but about a man that doesn't exist representing an organization that is sort of hard to talk to...but you never know.
