Thanks, Tareth. I edited in one more Q above as well (but likely before you started your answer):
Just noticed "If the company
travels aboard boats or is equipped with ponies for the
greater part of their journey, ignore the first level of
exhaustion incurred while on the Journey."
^ Can Elrond give us ponies? (And if so, how many ponies do we need? Is it one per PC? Just for the unmounted PCs? If we have fewer, can some of the party get this benefit?)
Hobwise:
Cool! As a party of six, it seems we get to double up on two out of (Scout / Hunter / Look-out). Are there any of them that yall have found especially important?
Guide: Thorgrim
Scout: Hobwise
Hunter: Cereidh
Look-out: Giles
Since there is a certain urgency to the mission. Yes, you are granted four ponies to help your journey. Note that these are not war horses like Swiftkiss or Thorgrim's mount. Just good sturdy ponies that can carry one person plus gear.

I am fine with that party arrangement. Findegil was mostly a lookout because anyone with sharper eyes was more sorely needed in other roles. ;)
The ponies will be helpful.

I just wanted to mention this now as so it's not a surprise later. I know how that can be. ^_^

Yikes!
For my own edification, the guide says:
"This roll is
modified as follows: the Guide’s Survival proficiency bonus
plus half their Wisdom bonus, minus the Peril Rating of the
journey"
I think Thorgrim's Survival is +6 (3 WIS, 3 Prof). Doesn't that mean his final result is 3 higher?

We've gone back and forth on this. It does say proficiency bonus and not skill total, so 3, and then 1/2 WIS, rounded down. Thorgrim has it right.

Yeah, I was confused about it too. But Survival is based of Wisdom, is it didn't seem right that the roll would get Wisdom counted twice.
Also, the phrasing is very odd, in that it specified proficiency bonus, and not just Survival skill, like everything else in game.
On the whole it's a rough roll. A single d12 if gonna be a lot more wild than, say, 2d6. And without a full measure of wisdom it's easy for the peril to just wipe out all the influence of the guide and just leave it to the die.
AND I can't get anyone to give me advantage.
Just a kicker-of-the-buttocks all round.
Ahhhh. It *IS* oddly worded, but that seems reasonable.
Thanks!
(And, of course, we might as well make things interesting for Giles from the get-go) ;-)

A poor result on the Embarkation roll is not automatically bad for the party. The Journey results are determined by the GM and may be affected by the Embarkation roll. For example, in the last adventure, Amalina rolled a 12+ net embarkation, and then I rolled a natural 12 for the Journey event, and voila! You all got to slay trolls with Aragorn. If she had rolled a 3 or something, my nat 12 would still have been a more good than bad result for the party. Also, GM is being generous giving the peril rating. Better not to know, in my opinion. A 4 is quite perilous. This will be fun!
Whoops! I thought I'd successfully deleted the post of this Q that I'd put in Gameplay (after realizing it felt more like Discussion)...but I see now that my Delete didn't go through. :(

I've never actually liked how 'Noctiscide' sounds. The double 's' sounds seems to tie each other up.
The story behind the name is that I used to play this one card game that had been translated to a video game. It was something generic like 'monster hunter' or somesuch. The whole thing was some generic fare, but there was one dark monster that was immune to light and called Photocide, which I thought was BA AF. So I tried to replicate that, and the primary Latic word for Night is Noctis, but I don't think it's working.
In another tense its 'Nocta' so Imma try Noctacide and see how it sounds.
I'm open to feedback although I realize there could not be a more boring topic to talk about. =)

You could drop the s or the c.
Nocticide or Noctiside.
Thoughts?

And all this time I've pronounced with a hard "c", like Nockticide. Which sounds like Knocked Aside, like something you might do to someone with a grestsword. Yeah, now that you have me thinking about it the other way, I agree.
But hey, inventing words that sound like they could be words is not easy. Tolkien was a genius, but Martin was smart not to take the bait... too often. Name it after a woman. That usually works. Or give it some clever name that alludes to its function and history. Tine of Doriath, or some such. Or steal a Sindarin word. Or just leave it be.

I may not be able to post again until Saturday. Just a heads up.
Hey, apologies! I'm about to leave for a camping trip with my family, returning on Friday.
I've been so busy prepping (and trying to get work in order) that I just realized I hadn't updated yall.
Feel free to DMPC as needed. Looking forward to returning!
Hey all, I'm away from my computer most of the day today. Will return to regular posting tomorrow. Thanks.

I've realised that I hadn't answered.
I quite approve of the GM's logic behind pairing up.
I'll be travelling this weekend and I won't be posting again until Monday at least.

This is one problem with doing two things at once. I know Hobwise wouldn't be left alone, I just do not know who is with him. Because for some reason Thorgrim still went south I don't know if we should just have Hobwise went that way and Wulfgith and Cereidh in the East, of if just to let Cereidh go to the east while Wulfgith goes south. Because the only think I know for sure is that Cereidh isn't likely going to the south.

Going to give a DM call on this one since we don't want to bog down on this. Thorgrim chose south and its makes perfect sense for Cereidh to go after Hobwise who is in the east (maybe to apologize for adding to the troubles between he and Thorgrim). So Wulfgith and Thorgrim in the south, Hobwise and Cereidh in the east, and Findegil and Giles in the north.
DM, thanks for stepping in and making a decision.
Wulf, as you say, this is a challenge of PbP.

@Tareth: How far is Findegil from the creature now?
|
1 person marked this as a favorite.

Findegil, it is about 120' between each beacon (two dash moves). You are just arriving at the east beacon. The creature, judging by Wulfgith's actions is about 90' away from you still. A little north and east of the south beacon fire.

I think the horse just makes your base move 60' so you out distance everyone. :) But still Dash or move plus action.

Hobwise has first action in the round and he would like to attempt to mount Swiftkiss on the move. Can I make an Acrobatics check? Is that an insane difficulty?
Wulfgith, any objection to a small passenger?
Also, I assume I can still use Cunning Action (Dash) without limit or penalty, correct?
