Cale moves back as well, adopting a defensive posture, spinning his Nodachi like a shield before him.

mdt |

The spider digs out the arrow that barely lodged in a chink of it's armor. It doesn't appear to have hurt much, if at all.
Then it dances back a few feet to between some scraggly trees and swamp brush, and throws up a web between it and the party, using some of the seedy looking brush to anchor it. The web looks thick enough to provide cover, while being short enough to allow the spider to throw things over it.

Goragg scoops up the apparently stunned Rutheric and carries him behind Cale and Grim.
Kappas max out at 50 lbs, so I think it's reasonable that I can carry him that far. Let me know if if I'm wrong.
I usually work alone, but if you can distract it I have special training while I'm flanking it.
He ponders a moment.
If it doesn't come to us, we should consider simply bypassing it. It will not give us food or shelter, only pain and death. We are intruding on it's hunting ground where it has the advantage.

Cale Pavel |

"Do you think it'll let us bypass it?" Cale retorts to the overconfident half orc.
Cale hunkers down next to Grim with his weapon ready to strike at the spider.
"Ready on your count Grim."

As the group begins to just slog off leaving the spider alone, the creature which had been slowly swimming up under water and under cover while they decided whether to deal with the spider rears out of the water behind them and atacks! This is not an animal, it's a Magical Beast. Specficially, a Devilfish or Demonfish. It has cursed evil blood running through it's veins. It is a ferocious predator, and it has poisonous blood and poisonous bite. It is a strong swimmer and amphibious. It has some ability to think and reason, but it's not very smart. But smarter than the average octopus.

Unless someone approaches within 50 ft of the spider, fight over. It was waiting for the Devilfish to throw a corpse it's way.

Cale Pavel |

Cale stares at a Gore-Covered Grim......
"Ermmm yeah.... I suppose so... I guess we'll be having seafood along with frog meat?"
Cale helps to drag the remains of the devil fish and proceed to gut it, clean it and prepare slices to be eaten.

Grim finds a rather large nodule inside the devilfish, about as big as his fist.
They quickly strip the usable meat off the octopus, and then leave, avoiding the spider.
About an hour later Goghurt comes back in from scouting. He see's the half-ripped up devilfish bits, and starts cursing in goblin. "Didn't you see the big arrow I drew saying go around around around around around around around around..." The goblin continues to repeat 'around' for another minute, his eyes glassy, his body unmoving. Even trying to touch him is impossible, as if some force were around him.
His body begins to show swamp through it in sections, as if someone were passing a plank of invisibility over him randomly. Finally he stops talking, and his mouth opens again and a different voice comes out. "MY APOLOGIES, EXPLORERS! I AM GLAD YOU ARE ALL STILL ALIVE. NO TWO SUBJECTS WHO WERE ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF CONFLICTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE TEAMED TOGETHER. THIS OVERSIGHT WAS FOUND DURING ROUTINE RECORD UPKEEP AFTER YOU WERE DISPATCHED. WE WILL CORRECT THIS OVERSIGHT NOW. AGAIN, THANKS AND APOLOGIES." And then Goghurt's body vanishes, his equipment falls into the swamp muck with desultory splashes.
Nearby a pair of crates land in the muck with a splash as they appear out of thin air. Then a second splash occurs as a human woman appears, wearing the same tissue like clothing that everyone arrived on the central pedestal arrived with.

Cale Pavel |

Bewildered, Cale looks before moving automatically to retrieve crates and woman to safe ground.
"Ok....waht just happened....."

Grim The Wanderer |

Gohurt, Nooooo says grim hand trying to grab the little goblin as he still disappears.
you heard the voice Cale some dumbass in the administration forgot to stamp paper A-33K and bang voila...
Grim turns toward the new arrival
looks like you go assigned to our merry band of explorers. let me give you the rundown. this is Cale, a rock solid fighter, Goragg, the Scouting Ranger, Kappa our mascot and i am Grim. You were about to die but "THE VOICE" offered you a second chance at life and now you are here. The object of this game is to explore and report on what we found.
he looks at the goblin's equipment and then at the woman. We need to get you some clothes from our spare. Armor will be a problem and we can make you some simple weapons. Of and there is less magical energy around in order to draw from. It will take 2/3 of your own power to create 1 spell.
so what is your story ? and what do you bring to our merry little circus? he says with a charming smile

Kalasin Wingfield |

She made a small groan noise as she was moved, reaching for her pounding head. 'Ow...' Her head made small movements, and her nose twitched some but she didn't seem fully with it yet. 'No... dogs... multiple strangers... stinks here...' It took her brain a moment for those thoughts to process. 'Strangers?' One blue eye opened to peek out at the new smells, cautious.

Grim The Wanderer |

You hungry? we will be travelling some more and stopping before for food. We have a tent a backpack and some small other stuff you can grab and use. Cale our PackMaster will go through our supplies and hand these to you. You can get some of our extra clothes too.
Grim will rummage trough Gohurt's pack and grab his formulae book and the alchemist fire
he sends over to the woman: a Mwk backpack, light crossbow (small), bolts (20), antiplague (2), antitoxin (1), waterproof bag.
And hand to cale: the dogslicer (small), leather armor (smal), Mwk thieves' tools explorer's outfit (small), cold-weather outfit (small)
Can you add these to the general inventory cale?

mdt |

Just an FYI, Kalasin was in the big waiting room with everyone else, she just wasn't near Grim's group. She was slated for 'backup' status, in case something happened (which it did), so as far as she's concerned, she just woke up after the escher waiting area.

Kalasin Wingfield |

Well I do still have my sense of smell. ^^ And I do suspect those crates that fell just before me hold things.
This Grim sure did talk, but they didn't seem to be a rage driven mob so that was a major bonus. "I'm Kalasin. I serve Ashava as one of her clerics and also work as an herbalist. I ended up taking a nasty tumble down an incline."
She took the items gratefully smiling, "Thank you." She looked around some to get her bearings, nose still twitching every now and then. "And some food would be nice. I've not had Squid before." She noticed the yet unopened but muck splashed crates. "What's in those?" She moved towards them, cautious but curious, nose twitching again. "They seem unopened. Are they back-up supplies?"

From a gladiator to a farmer and now a packmaster. I do know how to get around.

Goragg grunts his friendliest grunt, which is still not particularly friendly to non-hobgoblin ears, in Kalasin's general direction.
Welcome. Gear up, this swamp is dangerous.
He turns to Cale. I will take that dogslicer off your back. After being swallowed by a frog, I feel the urgent need to have a small sharp weapon at my belt.
Assuming Cale has no problem with this He turns the small weapon over in his hands and looks pensive for a moment.
The little useless one was not completely useless. I wonder where he went to?
Sheathing the weapon in his belt, he turns to the crates.
Let's see what goodies are in these, shall we?
